You Are My Omega - Chapter 98
Lin Xinyi moving back into the Xu household had already been decided long ago. But when it finally happened, everyone still felt a wave of emotion. For Lin Xinyi, this wasn’t just moving in. It truly felt like coming home.
Everything in the house was familiar. Nothing had changed.
She had never felt such deep emotion as she did at that moment. The emptiness she had carried in her heart finally felt at peace.
“I’m going back to my room now, alright?” Xu Shijiu said gently, after helping Lin Xinyi dry her hair and putting away the hair dryer. Lin Xinyi had already yawned several times.
Lin Xinyi’s expression shifted. She bit her lip and asked, “You’re going back to your room?”
“Yes…” Xu Shijiu answered softly.
“Why?” Lin Xinyi grabbed the hem of her shirt tightly. “Didn’t we already register our marriage?”
Even though they hadn’t had a wedding yet, legally, they were already spouses.
“I know, but…” Xu Shijiu hesitated. Sleeping in the same bed might still feel a little awkward between them.
“I’ll behave. I promise I won’t move around. Can you please stay?” Lin Xinyi’s eyes reddened again.
“Alright, alright. I’m not going anywhere,” Xu Shijiu gave in immediately. “But you lie down first, okay? I’ll take a quick shower and come back.”
“You’re not lying, right?” Lin Xinyi hooked her pinky around Xu Shijiu’s, giving it a little shake, still unsure.
“Why would I lie to you?” Xu Shijiu comforted her patiently, tucking her under the blanket and looking serious. “We made a promise, remember? You rest here and wait for me. If you get sleepy, go ahead and sleep. You keep your promise, and I’ll keep mine too.”
“Okay.”
Worried that Lin Xinyi might overthink if she took too long, Xu Shijiu quickly freshened up and stepped out of her room, only to run into Xu Manyue just about to knock on her door.
“Big sister? You need something?”
“Not really. I just wanted to check whether you two are sleeping in separate rooms.”
Xu Manyue had been worried and couldn’t fall asleep. She had a bad feeling, and it turned out to be true. The two of them really weren’t in the same room.
“We’re not sleeping apart. I was just showering. I’m going back to Lin Xinyi’s room now.” Xu Shijiu understood what her sister was worried about and smiled reassuringly.
“I see. That’s good.” Xu Manyue let out a breath of relief. “During pregnancy, Omegas are emotionally fragile and really need Alpha pheromones to help them stay calm. If you two were sleeping in separate rooms, I’d be seriously concerned.”
“Don’t worry about us, sister. Go get some sleep,” Xu Shijiu said as she gently nudged her sister back to her room.
Of course, Xu Manyue could tell that Xu Shijiu was in a hurry to return to Lin Xinyi’s room. She nodded and turned away without another word.
She had worried too much again.
Lying alone in her cold, spacious bed, Xu Manyue looked at the framed family photo of the five of them on the nightstand. She let out a quiet sigh. Sometimes, she truly felt like she was getting old.
She had always worried about her younger sisters, but now it wasn’t just worrying. She had also become a bit naggy. It was hard to believe.
The phone suddenly rang.
Startled, Xu Manyue reached for her phone, which she had tossed on the bed earlier. She glanced at the caller ID. It was an unfamiliar number. She hesitated for a few seconds before answering.
“Hello?”
“Hello. Is this Xu Manyue, head of the Xu family?”
The voice sounded vaguely familiar, though she couldn’t quite place it.
“Yes, I am. Who’s speaking?”
“I’m… Liu Lingyan’s father.”
The next morning, when Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu came downstairs for breakfast, they were stunned to see Xu Manyue at the table dressed in a formal business suit.
“Sister, are you going to the company?” Xu Shijiu asked. “It’s been a while since I’ve seen you dressed like this.”
It had been a long time since Xu Manyue looked so polished. Lin Xinyi couldn’t help but feel impressed.
“No. It’s a personal matter,” Xu Manyue replied casually while taking a bite of red date cake. She didn’t explain further.
Both Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu stared in surprise as Xu Manyue finished every bite of the cake she normally hated. They glanced at each other, silently exchanging worried looks.
“Is it… a blind date?” Xu Shijiu asked boldly.
Her question shocked not only Xu Manyue but also Lin Xinyi, who nearly choked on her food at the outrageous guess.
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Xu Manyue glared at her. Then she realized she had just eaten something she disliked and grimaced before quickly downing her coffee.
“Red date cake is good for the blood. Very nutritious,” Xu Shijiu said with a teasing smile as she watched her sister’s rare display of awkwardness.
“You’re one to talk. You don’t eat it either,” Lin Xinyi chimed in, amused. The Xu sisters seemed to dislike the same things.
“I’m done with you two. Xinyi, eat more while you still feel okay. It’s best to eat well now before the nausea kicks in. When it does, it’ll be hard to keep anything down,” Xu Manyue advised, speaking from experience as someone who had gone through pregnancy.
“I know, sister,” Lin Xinyi replied with a helpless look, staring at the small mountain of food in her bowl.
“Xu Shijiu, I really can’t eat this much,” she said quickly when she saw her about to add more. “It’s seriously too much.”
Xu Shijiu finally gave in and put her chopsticks down.
She had no particular schedule today. Even before the variety show recording began, she had already discussed plans with her sister to delegate more responsibility and give capable people in the company a chance. Xu Shijiu was in no rush to return to the office.
As for Lin Xinyi, her current condition had made it necessary to turn down all her public appearances and filming.
Xu Shijiu looked over at Lin Xinyi, who was curled up on the sofa reading a script. After a moment of hesitation, she asked, “Are you really okay with turning down all the offers?”
“Really. I’m fine with it,” Lin Xinyi answered again without hesitation.
They had had this conversation more times than either of them could count.
Even Xu Manyue, acting as the unwilling third wheel, was starting to grow tired of hearing it.
“The most important thing right now is the baby,” Lin Xinyi said without a moment’s hesitation.
She was fully aware of her previous schedule. All the upcoming work required her to be physically active, running and jumping around. The role she had accepted was action-heavy. That kind of environment was far too dangerous for the baby.
Xu Shijiu said nothing. She didn’t feel happy. She didn’t want to see Lin Xinyi give up her passion for acting just to accommodate the pregnancy. She hated the thought of Lin Xinyi sacrificing something she loved.
“I figured this would be a good time to talk more with Sister Liu about moving behind the scenes. I want to learn how to direct,” Lin Xinyi said as she closed her script, looking a little overwhelmed. “There’s so much to learn if I want to become a director.”
Meanwhile, Xu Manyue had been watching the time. Just before her alarm could go off, she turned it off manually. She had been sitting on edge for a while.
“Sister, are you heading out?” Xu Shijiu asked.
“Yes,” Xu Manyue replied simply.
“Take this with you.”
Xu Manyue turned around and saw Xu Shijiu holding out a small bottle of emergency heart pills. She was speechless.
“What’s this supposed to mean?”
Xu Shijiu probably didn’t even know who she was meeting.
“Your hands are shaking. I don’t know who you’re going to meet, but it’s obvious how nervous you are. Anyone could see it. So please just take these,” Xu Shijiu said gently as she placed the bottle into her sister’s hand.
She didn’t need to ask to guess that Xu Manyue was going to meet either Liu Lingyan or someone very close to her.
Xu Manyue never imagined she would become this nervous, but in the end, she accepted the bottle and walked out the door.
According to Liu Lingyan’s father, this meeting would be just the two of them, and he promised not to tell Liu Lingyan. However…
When she opened the door to the private room they had arranged, it wasn’t just a middle-aged man in a suit sitting inside. Liu Lingyan and their daughter Fantuan were also there.
Xu Manyue stopped in her tracks, her eyes filled with confusion as she looked toward Mr. Liu. His own expression was full of helplessness. Clearly, he hadn’t expected this situation either.
“Mama!”
Fantuan cried out and threw herself into Xu Manyue’s arms.
“Careful,” Xu Manyue said instantly, lowering herself to catch her daughter. Her gaze softened the moment she held her.
“You really came, Mama! Grandpa told me you were coming, but I didn’t believe it. I thought he was just trying to make me feel better. But he was telling the truth!” Fantuan wrapped her little arms tightly around Xu Manyue’s neck, her joy overflowing.
“Yes. You’ve grown so much already,” Xu Manyue said as she gently lifted Fantuan into her arms. Feeling the weight of her daughter and seeing her smile filled her with warmth. She couldn’t stop the smile from spreading across her own face.
“You shouldn’t be carrying her. She’s not that little anymore. You’ll hurt yourself,” Liu Lingyan spoke up, sounding alarmed.
“Mama, you can put me down. I’m really heavy now,” Fantuan said seriously. She stayed very still, afraid that moving too much might throw her mother off balance.
Xu Manyue had wanted to prove that she was fine, that she could handle it. But her body wouldn’t cooperate. She had no choice but to gently set Fantuan down. If she forced it, she might accidentally hurt her daughter.
“Mr. Liu,” Xu Manyue nodded in greeting. She appeared calm, but inside, she was a mess of nerves.
“Please have a seat, Ms. Xu,” Mr. Liu replied politely.
His attitude toward her wasn’t as harsh as she had expected. In fact, it was almost respectful. That surprised her, but she still didn’t let her guard down.
“Mama, can you sit next to me?” Fantuan tugged on Xu Manyue’s hand, asking sweetly.
This kind of behavior, especially in front of Liu Lingyan, immediately raised suspicion in Xu Manyue’s heart. Something was off.
“Alright. Mama will sit next to you.” Xu Manyue gave her a gentle smile and followed her lead to sit down beside her.
It was a rare moment to see her daughter act this affectionate. Even if Fantuan had asked for the stars and the moon, Xu Manyue would have wanted to find a way to give them to her.
Liu Lingyan sat quietly, watching the interaction between mother and daughter. She didn’t say a word, but she couldn’t hide the soft curve of her lips.
