You Are My Omega - Chapter 99
If it had just been Liu Lingyan in the room, Mr. Liu and Xu Manyue might have been able to talk. But now that Fantuan was present, none of them could bring themselves to speak about serious matters in front of a child. They all silently agreed to follow along with the child’s wishes.
With Mommy on one side and Mama on the other, Fantuan felt like the happiest child in the world. She held both of their hands as she bounced with joy, full of energy and light.
Even though Fantuan had forgotten about him, Mr. Liu did not mind. He simply kept a polite distance from the group, silently watching and following behind them.
“Hey, isn’t that Shuer?” someone suddenly called out.
“Hello, Teacher Li!” Fantuan, normally shy at school, beamed with a bright and sunny smile as she greeted the teacher.
“Hello, Shuer, hello,” Teacher Li responded warmly. She had not expected her quiet little class monitor to show such a cute, cheerful side. That sweet expression completely melted her heart.
Then her eyes moved to the two women holding Fantuan’s hands. She recognized the Omega wearing a mask as Fantuan’s mother, who was also a celebrity. But the other woman…
“Teacher Li, thank you for taking care of my daughter at school,” Xu Manyue said, reaching out to shake the teacher’s hand. She had just heard Liu Lingyan mention Fantuan’s homeroom teacher and had also learned from her own inquiries that this teacher was very attentive toward her daughter.
“Oh, not at all. It’s my pleasure,” Teacher Li replied instinctively. After retrieving her hand, she hesitated for a moment, wondering whether she should ask who this Alpha was.
Liu Lingyan smiled but said nothing, leaving the introductions to Xu Manyue.
Before either of them could speak, Fantuan jumped in without waiting.
“Teacher, this is my Mama, Xu Manyue.”
After the teacher left, Xu Manyue was still stunned and didn’t quite know what to say.
“Mama, I want to go to the amusement park!” Fantuan said in a soft and sweet voice that brought Xu Manyue back to herself. She smiled and gently pinched her daughter’s cheek.
“Alright. Wherever you want to go, Mama will take you.”
It was a rare chance. She didn’t know when she would next get the opportunity to spend time with Fantuan like this.
A sense of sadness stirred in Xu Manyue’s heart. She glanced at Liu Lingyan out of the corner of her eye, trying to make it seem casual. She had not expected to meet Liu Lingyan’s gaze directly. The moment their eyes met, something inside her shook deeply.
Liu Lingyan’s eyes looked just as they had before everything fell apart. Gentle, clear, and filled with love.
Liu Lingyan had always been kind to those around her. When Xu Manyue first confessed and Liu Lingyan accepted, she had spent a long time unsure whether Liu Lingyan truly loved her or just didn’t want to reject her.
Because of that, they had gone through several misunderstandings in the beginning. But over time, after learning about Liu Lingyan’s past and seeing how panicked she became when she couldn’t find her, Xu Manyue began to understand that her feelings were real.
After they married and moved in together, Liu Lingyan would often watch her quietly. Every time Xu Manyue looked up, she would catch that same gaze filled with love.
Xu Manyue had believed she would never see that look again. But now, she was being looked at with that same warmth and affection.
“Mama?”
Fantuan noticed her mother had suddenly stopped walking. She looked up in confusion, then turned to see that both her mama and mommy were standing still, staring at each other without moving.
Mr. Liu quickly gestured at his granddaughter not to speak. Fantuan nodded obediently and stayed quiet.
Xu Manyue slowly pulled herself back to reality. She blinked and looked down at her daughter’s small hand wrapped around hers.
“Come on, Fantuan. Mama will take you to ride the carousel.”
“Yay!” Fantuan cheered happily.
“Fantuan, go play with your mama. Mommy and Grandpa will wait for you down here,” Liu Lingyan said, letting go of her daughter’s hand. She knew that if she stayed, Xu Manyue would remain uncomfortable.
Watching as the Alpha led her daughter onto the carousel, Liu Lingyan finally walked over to stand beside her father. Her expression shifted into something more guarded.
“Father, what exactly did you bring her here for today?”
“I just wanted to talk to her,” Mr. Liu said, a little disheartened by her defensive tone.
“Talk about what?”
“You’re my daughter. You love her. What else would I talk to her about? I told you last night that I support the two of you being together. The past shouldn’t tie down your future. I meant what I said. I asked her to come so I could try to help her let go. That’s the only way you two can move forward.”
He spoke calmly, but he had wrestled with those thoughts for a long time before reaching this decision.
Liu Lingyan remained silent. Her father had said the same thing last night, but she hadn’t believed it. In her mind, he had never been someone trustworthy.
“After your mother passed away, I often thought about ending everything. If I died, I could be with her again. But you were still so young. You needed someone to take care of you. I had the responsibility of raising you.”
“I wanted to raise you myself. I truly did. But I was too weak. Every time I looked at you, I saw her. It hurt too much. So I ran. I went abroad and left you in your aunt’s care. I buried myself in work, trying to numb the pain. At first, every day was just a blur. I wasn’t really alive. I was like a ghost.”
His smile turned bitter. He looked upward, as if trying to hold back tears or as if searching for something in the sky.
Liu Lingyan was moved. Her father rarely spoke about her mother. In her memories, their time together had always been brief and distant.
“Yanyan, so many of the things we hold onto are the burdens of our generation. That car accident… the girl involved was just a child. You can’t hold it against her. You love each other but refuse to be together because of old wounds. What’s the point?”
Mr. Liu sighed heavily. After a long pause, he reached out and gently placed a hand on her shoulder.
“Life is short. Accidents can happen at any time. Treasure what you have now. Don’t waste time, only to look back and realize you ended up with nothing.”
Only then did Liu Lingyan notice the wrinkles that had formed on her father’s forehead. His once-straight back was slightly hunched. His hair had turned mostly white. His eyes, once full of certainty, now looked tired and worn.
Her father had grown old.
“Dad!”
She finally called out to him after he had taken a few steps away.
Mr. Liu stopped in his tracks. He had been through countless hardships in life and had always been the type to suffer in silence. But hearing her call him “Dad” again made his eyes turn red with emotion.
“Hey… I’ll go wait at the restaurant. In a little while, have her come and find me. I want to talk to her.”
Mr. Liu spoke with his back turned to Liu Lingyan. He still hadn’t turned around. He had never cried in front of his daughter before.
“Alright,” Liu Lingyan replied softly.
She headed toward the carousel to find Xu Manyue and their daughter. As she looked around, her gaze met Xu Manyue’s once again.
Xu Manyue had been watching her. She was paying attention. She cared.
Liu Lingyan had never felt this kind of relief before. Her father’s words had finally untied the knot in her heart.
Mr. Liu did not wait long before Xu Manyue arrived.
Even though he had said it was fine for her to take her time, now that she was sitting in front of him, looking so composed and serious, he could not help but wonder. Was his daughter afraid of him waiting alone? Or was she hoping to use this moment to help the Alpha let go of the past so that they could move forward again?
Feeling reassured was one thing. Feeling at peace was something else entirely.
Meanwhile, after accidentally smearing ice cream on Fantuan’s nose for the third time, the little girl finally spoke up with a pout. She reached out to take the cone from her mother and began to eat it herself.
“Mama, let me eat it. If you keep feeding me like this, by the time Mama Xu comes out, I’ll look like a mess.”
“Sorry, Fantuan. Mama was distracted,” Liu Lingyan said, quickly apologizing as she gently wiped her daughter’s face clean.
“It’s okay. I know you were thinking about Mama Xu,” Fantuan said with a small smile.
Liu Lingyan looked at her sweaty little girl and sighed gently. She pulled out a cloth to wipe the sweat from her face.
“Look at you. You’re soaked. You don’t usually get this sweaty when you play.”
Fantuan didn’t respond right away. Usually, she didn’t play so hard because Mama Xu hadn’t been there. But she kept that thought to herself and quietly continued eating her ice cream. As she did, she kept glancing toward the closed door of the private room. Her expression turned anxious, and suddenly, she reached for her mother’s hand and held it tightly.
“What’s wrong?”
“Mama… do you think Mama Xu is still in there? What if she leaves without saying anything? What if she disappears again?”
Fantuan squirmed in her seat, unable to sit still. Before her mother could reply, she added quickly, “Can I just peek? Just for a second. I won’t disturb them. I promise.”
She still remembered that day clearly. The day her mother suddenly took her away from the home she loved. That was the same day Mama Xu disappeared from her life without a goodbye.
“Silly girl,” Liu Lingyan whispered, her heart aching. She gently fixed the few loose strands of hair around Fantuan’s face, leaving two soft curls in front. Then she kissed her on the forehead.
“Mama promises you, Mama Xu didn’t leave. Let’s wait patiently, alright? Let them finish their talk.”
“But…”
“And then, we’ll bring Mama Xu home.”
To Liu Lingyan’s surprise, Fantuan didn’t look happy.
“Fantuan? Aren’t you happy Mama Xu is coming home?” she asked, pulling her daughter into her arms.
Fantuan buried her face into her mother’s chest and nodded.
“I’m happy.”
“Then why do you look sad?”
“Mama… I just don’t want either of you to be sad.”
