Wife, Are You an Alpha Pretending to be an Omega? - Chapter 8
When Xie Jingyu woke up, he noticed the air smelled sweet and pleasant. He realized, somewhat hazily, that it was the scent of an air freshener.
Did Wei Xia spray this kind of thing so early in the morning? Air fresheners have the effect of breaking down pheromones. Xie Jingyu sat up in bed and rubbed his eyes, only to find that the spot beside him was already empty.
The semi-opaque curtains were a warm tone, bathing the entire room in a soft, misty glow. A single sliver of sunlight leaked through a gap in the center, shining on the foot of the bed. It felt incredibly warm and comfortable. In the Tyndall effect of the light, he could see dust motes floating and dancing in the air.
Xie Jingyu let out a quiet yawn and pulled back the covers to get out of bed. Just then, the bedroom door was gently pushed open.
“Jingyu, you are awake?”
Xie Jingyu raised an eyebrow. Wei Xia was holding breakfast and seemed quite excited to see that he was up. He brought over a lavish breakfast consisting of several types of sushi; it was clear that a significant amount of time had gone into preparing it.
“You got up this early to cook?”
Wei Xia offered a gentle smile. Without confirming or denying it, he simply asked, “Would you like to try some?”
Xie Jingyu felt a bit flustered. He had likely never experienced such meticulous care before. Wei Xia placed the breakfast directly in front of him. Feeling unaccustomed to such treatment and thinking he looked too much like a “giant infant,” Xie Jingyu said, “Let us go out to eat.”
“Okay.”
Xie Jingyu’s pajamas were somewhat wrinkled, while Wei Xia had already washed up and changed into clean clothes. By comparison, Xie Jingyu felt a little embarrassed. He picked up his phone from the nightstand and saw that it was already half past eight.
It was a bit late, but it did not matter, as there was nothing urgent to do today. Xie Jingyu did not let Wei Xia continue to hold the tray. Despite the other man’s attempts to shy away, he insisted on taking the small table tray, carried it out of the bedroom, and placed it on the dining table.
“It looks very good.”
“Are there any plans for today, since you are dressed like this?”
Wei Xia was wearing a deep blue jacket today, which made him look very youthful and bright. Enhanced by his natural beauty, he possessed a unique charm that made a lasting impression. Xie Jingyu spoke a bit slowly because he found Wei Xia strikingly beautiful. The realization that such a beautiful person was his wife made him feel a sense of wonder. It was the kind of involuntary nervousness one feels when encountering someone truly attractive.
Wei Xia shook his head.
It likely was not an illusion; Wei Xia’s careful grooming early this morning was having an effect. He was doing his absolute best to “display his feathers.”
“There are no plans. Jingyu, is there anything you want to eat for lunch? I can make it at home.”
Xie Jingyu felt it was a pity for Wei Xia’s beauty to be showcased only within the house. Suddenly, he had a flash of inspiration. “How about I take you out to play?”
He had not actually thought of a specific destination; he just felt he should not let Wei Xia’s efforts go to waste. However, as soon as he spoke, he caught a fleeting look of surprise and anticipation in those beautiful eyes.
Wei Xia wants to go, Xie Jingyu told himself.
Without even stopping to eat breakfast, he immediately picked up his phone and sent a message to Li Dajing.
“Is your stable open today?”
The other party replied instantly: “Oh? Since when is a workaholic like Master Xie willing to come out and play? This is the first time you have ever contacted me for something like this. I have to record this.”
Xie Jingyu frowned. Was I usually such a boring person?
After replying to Li Dajing, he looked up and met Wei Xia’s expectant eyes. “Interested in going horseback riding?”
Almost without hesitation, Wei Xia nodded. As long as he could go out with Xie Jingyu, he would be willing to go even if they were just picking up trash. He wondered if this counted as a date for the two of them. His breath felt a bit hot.
“Jingyu, let us eat first.”
Xie Jingyu arranged everything in the time it took to finish the meal. His daily life was quite dull; aside from work, he had almost no hobbies that could be described as fun. Horseback riding was one of the few things he could think of, and even then, he only knew about it because Li Dajing had invited him a few times.
When the young masters of wealthy families gathered, they were proficient in everything from riding to racing. While they had many diversions, horseback riding was the only one Xie Jingyu found respectable. Consequently, Li Dajing had stopped inviting him because it was useless; Xie Jingyu never participated.
Horseback riding, huh? Xie Jingyu stole a glance at Wei Xia, who was tidying up. A slightly shameful thought crossed his mind.
He wondered if Wei Xia knew how to ride. If not, he could teach him personally. Xie Jingyu was an excellent rider; that was an acknowledged fact, as it was his only real hobby.
After breakfast, they packed their things and headed out. Xie Jingyu drove to the suburban stables about ten kilometers away. As soon as they stepped out of the car, Li Dajing was waiting at the entrance.
“Master Xie, you are a rare guest.”
Li Dajing opened his arms, but before he could even hug Xie Jingyu, he felt as if he were being watched. He turned and saw Wei Xia, who had just stepped out of the car. Wei Xia’s eyes were lowered, making him look both beautiful and obedient.
Li Dajing slapped his forehead. “Look at me, I did not realize. Jingyu, why did you not mention you were bringing your sister-in-law?”
Xie Jingyu replied casually, “You and your big mouth.”
The word “sister-in-law” felt like a hot iron, searing Wei Xia’s heart. His gaze toward Li Dajing became much gentler, as if he had not just been staring intensely at the man’s arm. He then turned to steal a glance at Xie Jingyu. From his position on the passenger side, he could only see the back of Xie Jingyu’s head.
He wondered if it was an illusion, but Xie Jingyu’s ears seemed a bit red.
Xie Jingyu interrupted Li Dajing’s banter. He turned with a slight curve to his lips. “Let us go.”
Truth be told, Xie Jingyu was so used to being serious that it was truly rare to see a clear smile on his face. It was as if a steel ruler was fixed between the corners of his mouth and eyes, allowing for no change in curvature. Yet, Wei Xia was certain that Xie Jingyu was smiling right now.
Perhaps it was just wishful thinking, but what if it were true?
The two followed Li Dajing into the stables. Li Dajing had already made arrangements. Wei Xia followed a manager to change into riding gear, while Li Dajing called out to Xie Jingyu to stay behind.
“What is it?” Xie Jingyu asked.
Li Dajing looked somewhat uneasy and glanced into the distance. “That person is here today.”
“Who?”
“Your cousin Xie Ci and his group of friends. Oh, and Pang Cong is here too.”
Xie Jingyu’s brows furrowed deeply, and his expression became displeased. Before he could speak, Li Dajing added quickly, “I did not know you were coming.”
“Then why did you not say so earlier?”
“I did not know they were coming either! They suddenly showed up right when you told me you were almost here,” Li Dajing explained, looking innocent. “It is fine. If you do not want to be near them, just go to the eastern section. It is quiet there with fewer people, so you won’t have to deal with the headache of bumping into them.”
Xie Jingyu nodded silently. He walked past Li Dajing to look for Wei Xia. Xie Ci was one thing; as the head of the Xie family, Xie Jingyu knew the boy was afraid of him despite his hidden motives and would not dare to cause trouble. However, Pang Cong was different. As a young master of the Pang family, he was well-versed in all kinds of debauchery. Being the late-born son of the elder Master Pang, he had been spoiled to the point of being reckless. For some unknown reason, he had started actively antagonizing Xie Jingyu.
Xie Jingyu disdained dealing with him, but it was a hassle if they crossed paths.
He walked toward the locker room but could not find anyone. There was not a soul in the hallway. The stable grounds were vast, so staff members were not densely stationed. Xie Jingyu circled the familiar area several times but could not find Wei Xia. He began to feel anxious.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the facility.
Wei Xia’s riding gear was slapped out of his hands, hitting the floor with a thud.
“Heh.”
