Wife, Are You an Alpha Pretending to be an Omega? - Chapter 7
After ten minutes had passed, Wei Xia adjusted his breathing, took the zongzi out of the pot, and prepared to leave the kitchen.
Xie Jingyu was sitting at the dining table. He had removed the gray suit jacket he wore earlier, leaving his black inner shirt in full view. While the shirt was not particularly tight, it clearly outlined his waist. He was looking at his phone, and a slight frown appeared between his eyebrows as he read the content on the screen.
“Jingyu, it is time to eat,” Wei Xia said.
Xie Jingyu was startled by the voice and hurriedly placed his phone face down on the table. This sudden movement did not go unnoticed by Wei Xia.
Xie Jingyu had been reading a blog post where an Omega-on-Omega couple shared their personal experiences. The blogger mentioned that because Omegas cannot mark one another, they often require more external physical stimulation, especially with their hands, and that both parties must put in double the effort.
Xie Jingyu had not expected people online to speak so bluntly. The comment section was quite wild and filled with bold emojis. He felt incredibly self-conscious, and a deep crimson flush spread behind his ears.
“Okay,” he replied.
The glutinous rice zongzi was very hearty. It was clearly homemade by an elder and was packed with ingredients. Xie Jingyu picked up his phone awkwardly, quickly switched out of the app, and placed the device back into his pocket. He intentionally avoided Wei Xia’s gaze and spoke in a muffled voice.
“Try some quickly. It is very delicious.”
“Yes, alright,” Wei Xia replied.
Wei Xia observed every detail. He wondered if Xie Jingyu was still chatting with his lover at this time. He questioned why Xie Jingyu felt the need to hide it from him, especially since the man had already been honest about the relationship. Wei Xia wondered if he should view this secrecy as a form of respect.
“Jingyu.”
“Yes?”
Xie Jingyu looked up with a hint of unnatural shyness in his eyes. Only then did Wei Xia notice a faint scent of jasmine clinging to him, which was the scent of Omega pheromones. Wei Xia’s mind raced through various thoughts before eventually settling on a single emotion: jealousy.
“Could you tell me the story of you and your lover?”
Xie Jingyu choked on a sip of water and began to cough. Wei Xia quickly stepped over to pat his back. While Xie Jingyu struggled to catch his breath, his mind worked at high speed to come up with a response.
“Why are you asking about that?”
Wei Xia offered a bitter smile. “I am just curious. You two must be very much in love.”
Xie Jingyu fell into silence. It was not that he could not invent a story on the spot, but he had just realized that he harbored feelings for Wei Xia. If he continued to romanticize his deep affection for a non-existent lover, he would effectively be pushing Wei Xia away. This realization put him in a difficult position.
“Is it inconvenient to talk about?” Wei Xia asked considerately. “I am sorry. I will not ask again.”
“No,” Xie Jingyu interrupted.
Wei Xia was too cautious. He had withdrawn before Xie Jingyu even had a chance to ask a follow-up question. This left Xie Jingyu with no time to construct a proper lie.
He spoke randomly: “We are doing okay.”
Internally, he wanted to slap his own forehead. What did “doing okay” mean? He had been playing the part of a devoted partner just a short while ago, and now he was saying they were only “okay.” He worried that such a response would make Wei Xia think he was a scoundrel. He scolded himself, wondering how his feelings could appear so cheap.
As he struggled with his internal conflict, his outward expression became colder. His brow furrowed, and his gaze was not particularly friendly. He was actually angry with himself.
However, Wei Xia saw a glimmer of hope. He was unwilling to let the topic drop. Even though Xie Jingyu looked displeased, Wei Xia ignored it and tried to speak again.
“By ‘okay,’ do you mean…”
“He has decided to emigrate and is discussing a breakup with me.”
Silence immediately filled the room. Xie Jingyu’s mind was racing, but he showed no outward sign of guilt. He felt that this was the only way to explain the situation without making Wei Xia doubt his character. He felt a bit sorry for this legendary lover, as he was currently damaging that person’s reputation.
A surge of excitement rose within Wei Xia. It turned out that the person Xie Jingyu loved was not so special after all.
“How could he do that?” Wei Xia asked in a hoarse voice. His handsome brows were knit together, and his lips were slightly parted. To a casual observer, he looked concerned, but beneath the surface, there was a trace of satisfaction.
Xie Jingyu chose not to look at him, so he did not notice. “He has his own goals to pursue. I support him.”
Wei Xia went silent. He was no longer smiling internally.
“Go ahead and eat. Eat more. You are too thin,” Xie Jingyu added.
“Okay,” Wei Xia replied with a stiff smile.
Xie Jingyu had spoken casually, but Wei Xia interpreted the words as a sign of deep, lingering affection. He wondered how Xie Jingyu could still support the man so unconditionally even though that person was planning to abandon him. He questioned how much Xie Jingyu truly loved him.
The meal passed in silence, but the overall situation was improving. At the very least, Wei Xia knew that Xie Jingyu would soon be single. When that time came, pursuing him and building a relationship would not be considered stealing someone else’s partner.
When it was time to rest for the night, the two lay in the same bed as usual. It was not that the Xie house lacked extra rooms. However, Wei Xia had claimed to be afraid, and Xie Jingyu was the type of person who could only sleep in his own bed. He could not bring himself to make Wei Xia move out of the master bedroom, as that would feel like an eviction. Consequently, they had stayed together until now.
They lay on the bed together, staring at the ceiling in silence. Xie Jingyu was currently using the best type of scent-blocking patch, which had a strong sedative effect. The intense heat period from half a month ago had eventually been suppressed with an excessive dose of suppressants. He could feel that his gland had been damaged, as it had shown no signs of heating up lately. He had only felt a slight reaction moments ago due to his wandering thoughts about Wei Xia.
He remembered that Wei Xia’s white wine pheromones smelled very good. They were much better than his own. Xie Jingyu’s pheromones smelled like jasmine branches and always carried a hint of bitterness. He eventually fell into a deep sleep amidst his wandering thoughts.
A long time later, Wei Xia’s soft voice broke the silence. “Jingyu.”
There was no response. Xie Jingyu was fast asleep.
Wei Xia turned onto his side to face Xie Jingyu openly. His clear eyes sparkled in the darkness as he observed his husband’s perfect profile. The bed was large, and the distance between them was modest. They were barely touching. At this distance, Wei Xia watched every rise and fall of Xie Jingyu’s breath.
The man always seemed particularly serious. There was always a lingering frostiness between his eyebrows. Whether dealing with work or social interactions, he was restrained and indifferent. He looked exactly like the cold and abstinent CEO from a novel. Thinking of this, Wei Xia could not help but smile. He was the only one who truly understood that Xie Jingyu was a very gentle person at heart.
This was a conclusion Wei Xia had reached through long-term observation. Xie Jingyu could sense his every emotion. Although his tone was always calm, there were traces of him carefully choosing his words. Since Wei Xia had joined the Xie family, Xie Jingyu had considered every aspect of his well-being without ever showing any signs of annoyance. Such a person was gentle to his very core.
Wei Xia wished that he was the only one who could see this goodness. He thought that the lover who wanted to abandon Xie Jingyu was truly unfortunate. If that person did not want him, Wei Xia certainly did. It was something he desired more than anything.
Wei Xia moved quietly and climbed up from Xie Jingyu’s side. He leaned over, supporting himself with his hands on either side of the man’s shoulders, and gave him a light kiss on the lips. Xie Jingyu’s breath brushed against his face. Like a startled bird, Wei Xia felt panicked yet overwhelmed by desire.
“I really like you so much. What should I do, Xie Jingyu?”
Wei Xia’s body uncontrollably reacted again. Despite his appearance, he was an Alpha in his prime. With the person he loved lying right beside him, it was difficult to suppress his urges.
As Xie Jingyu’s breathing remained deep and steady, Wei Xia’s face turned red until he finally achieved a moment of release. Afterward, he stared blankly at the ceiling and whispered: “Xie Jingyu.”
He did not dare to look back, fearing he would lose control again. He felt helpless. Having Xie Jingyu by his side but being unable to touch him was difficult. He knew that his upcoming rut next month would be very hard to endure. He wondered if Xie Jingyu could ever accept a wife who was an Alpha just like him.
