This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 79
After nearly a month of honeymoon travel, they had flown to nearly ten countries and visited two private islands. They had done everything they wanted to do and experienced everything they wanted to experience.
But, no conception.
Galaxy Group Headquarters.
“Oh, don’t even talk about it. I’m so depressed right now. This is my second biochemical pregnancy. The doctor said it might be due to an immune system issue since I have allergies. I had a high fever for a week recently, and then it was gone. The doctor said the probability of conceiving is lower if the mother’s body is weak.”
“No way. Did the doctor say how to best recuperate?”
“You see me now, taking folic acid and Chinese medicine every day to condition my body. We’ll wait a while. Luckily, my husband is very caring, and the traditional Chinese medicine doctor I know is excellent. Basically, everyone who has gone to him for conditioning has gotten pregnant.”
“I really envy you for having such a good husband who cares about you so much. It’s okay. Just relax. If a baby comes, a baby comes. If not, life goes on.”
Two female secretaries walked out of the pantry with coffee. They ran into Duan Yeluo just outside and immediately put on smiles. “Young CEO Duan.”
Duan Yeluo was holding a cup. Seeing the secretary who had just been speaking holding an iced coffee, he gently reminded her, “You should drink less iced coffee. Take care of your body.”
The secretary was surprised that her boss was concerned about her. She smiled and nodded. “Yes, yes, I will.”
“Oh, right,” Duan Yeluo called out to her.
“What is it, Young CEO Duan?”
“Could you recommend that traditional Chinese medicine doctor to me?”
.
The traditional Chinese medicine clinic was located in an alley in the old quarter of the old city. The car couldn’t drive in, so they had to park on the roadside and walk.
Duan Yeluo parted the simple cloth curtain and stepped inside.
The clinic wasn’t large. Medicine cabinets lined all four walls, and the air was filled with the scent of Chinese herbs, which was pleasant and invigorating. A tall man in a white T-shirt was standing with his back to the door, pulling open drawers and meticulously picking out herbs.
“Hello, is Doctor Wen here?”
“What is it?”
The deep reply came from the tall man in the white T-shirt. Duan Yeluo was a little surprised. He looked at the man’s back. He looked to be in his early thirties at most. Such a young Doctor Wen?
“A friend recommended me here. I’d like to consult with him.”
“Consult about what?” The man turned around with the herbs in his hand. His tone was casual, but when he saw the young man, his eyes flashed briefly. Out of courtesy, he shifted his gaze and walked toward the consultation table. “Sit down. I’ll take your pulse.”
Duan Yeluo didn’t notice the other man’s unusual reaction. He walked to the consultation table, sat down, and extended his left hand. “Doctor, I seem to be having trouble conceiving.”
The man sat down, glanced at him, and placed his fingers on the other’s pulse. The pulse was thin and weak. He spoke flatly. “How old are you?”
“24.”
“Have you had your heart checked?”
“I had an injury four years ago and underwent open-heart surgery.”
“How has your recovery been since the surgery? Have you experienced any obvious discomfort?”
Duan Yeluo thought for a moment. “No obvious abnormalities. I occasionally get nerve pain in my chest when I’m tired, but nothing else.”
The man acknowledged with a knowing ‘mhm.’ He continued to take the pulse. “Do you have a lot of work stress? Do you often stay up late or work overtime?”
“The work stress is significant, but I’m trying to adjust. I stayed up late and worked overtime more often in the past two years, but it’s gotten better since I got married this year.”
“You are still young. You don’t need to rush this matter of conception, especially as an Omega.”
“I’m not exactly rushing. I’m letting nature take its course. What I find strange is that my Alpha and I have a compatibility rate of 120%. If we aren’t deliberately avoiding pregnancy, it should be easy, logically speaking. Is it a problem with my body?” Duan Yeluo consulted the doctor.
He didn’t plan to go to the hospital. If he went to the hospital, his family would make a huge fuss, and so would Lu Xinghe.
Instead of going to the hospital first, he figured he should consult a traditional Chinese medicine doctor to get a baseline understanding.
The man looked up, a little surprised. “Your Alpha and you have a compatibility rate of 120%?”
“Yes.”
The man understood. “Then it must be his problem.”
Duan Yeluo: “…”
“Tell him to reduce the frequency. You are an Omega, and especially for young Omegas, the reproductive cavity doesn’t fully develop until the age of 26. Excessive burden will weaken your physical foundation. I’m not saying you can’t do it.” The man stood up after finishing the pulse check. “Regularly drink my family’s secret Yin-Nourishing and Qi-Supplementing Tea. When your body is properly conditioned, it will naturally improve. Let nature take its course. There are no major problems, and there is still a high probability, so don’t worry.”
Duan Yeluo finally felt relieved. “Good, I understand. Thank you, Doctor.”
He had almost felt inadequate.
Now he realized he was over-performing and needed moderation. Good, moderation.
He waited for the doctor to prepare the herbs, paid for the medicine, and then left, bidding farewell.
The cloth curtain dropped.
The man stood in front of the medicine cabinet, thoughtfully watching the direction Duan Yeluo had left in.
Just then, a young man with a prominent pregnant belly walked out from the inner room. He saw the man looking toward the door. “What’s wrong, Wen Yu? Did you just finish with a patient?”
The man called Wen Yu retracted his gaze. Seeing his pregnant lover walk out, he went to support him. “Mhm. Just finished with a patient. I felt like I knew him but can’t place where I’ve seen him.”
The young man laughed. “You feel like you know everyone, you silly.”
Wen Yu didn’t put it to heart for the time being, treating him as an ordinary patient.
He didn’t realize that this meeting would change his life.
“Where did you go?”
Duan Yeluo returned to his office and found Lu Xinghe there, standing in front of his bookshelf. He subconsciously put the tea he was holding behind his back, as he hadn’t planned to take it home and intended to drink it in the office.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”
Lu Xinghe turned around, just in time to catch Duan Yeluo’s small movement of hiding something behind him. Seeing his slightly evasive action, he asked, “What did you go out to buy?”
“Nothing, just… tea.” Duan Yeluo noticed Lu Xinghe had already looked his way, and he probably couldn’t hide it anyway, so he brought it out openly. “A secretary recommended a Chinese medicine doctor. She said he’s quite good, so I went to check it out.”
Lu Xinghe frowned when he heard he went to see a traditional Chinese medicine doctor. His expression darkened slightly, and he walked over, putting his hands on his shoulders and examining him up and down. “Are you feeling unwell somewhere? Why didn’t you tell me? Did you go by yourself?”
“I’m not unwell.” Duan Yeluo saw how worried he was and patted his chest, smiling. “Relax, I’m really fine.”
“Then why did you see a traditional Chinese medicine doctor?” Lu Xinghe was still uneasy. He took the medicine from Duan Yeluo’s hand, looking at the small cloth bags inside. He lowered his head and sniffed—it smelled strongly of traditional Chinese medicine. He looked completely confused. “What is this?”
“Yin-nourishing.”
Lu Xinghe: “?” He looked blankly at Duan Yeluo. “Nourish what?”
Duan Yeluo crooked his finger at him, signaling him to lean closer.
Lu Xinghe obediently bent down, lowering his ear to Duan Yeluo’s lips, wanting to hear what his wife had to say.
“I just saw the doctor. The doctor said I need celibacy.”
Lu Xinghe abruptly straightened up, looking at Duan Yeluo in disbelief, with an expression that said, “Darling, are you listening to yourself, right after we got married?” He took the packet of medicine from Duan Yeluo’s hand, as if facing a mortal enemy, and dropped it onto the sofa nearby.
Then he wrapped his arm around Duan Yeluo’s shoulder, lowering his voice to placate him. “Baby, you can’t take this kind of medicine indiscriminately. We must respect our desires. After all, we just got married. It’s inevitable that we’ll be slightly carried away and can’t control our impulses. What if taking this medicine makes you… incapable?”
“I know, but have you ever thought about why our compatibility is so high? We should be able to have a baby quickly, yet we still don’t.”
A moment of silence fell.
Duan Yeluo saw Lu Xinghe wasn’t speaking and thought he was nervous. “Baby, I—”
“Zai Zai, my love for you isn’t based on having a child, nor do I need a child to prove my love for you.” Lu Xinghe suddenly understood what had been bothering Duan Yeluo these past few days. He put his arm around his neck and kissed his forehead. “Don’t deliberately worry about this. Your love is enough for me.”
“But I promised you I would give you a baby.”
“Think of it this way: we just got married. Our world, just the two of us, has just begun. If a baby suddenly arrives, won’t we have to focus all our attention on the child? Won’t that easily reduce the attention we give each other?”
“Mhm… I guess that’s true.”
“It seems I’ve been putting pressure on you.”
“No, it was my promise to you before.”
Lu Xinghe laughed, pulling him into an embrace and stroking his back. “I thought you were just comforting me. I didn’t realize my Baby was so serious.”
“I wasn’t just comforting you.” Duan Yeluo looked up and said seriously, “When have I ever just comforted you? I’m very serious.”
As soon as the words left his lips, he was kissed again. He froze for two seconds and blinked.
“How are you still so cute even after growing up?” Lu Xinghe held him tightly. Thinking of him seeing a doctor for his sake only made him feel more tender. He didn’t want his words to pressure him. “As long as we are happy, the little baby will come. Let’s stop thinking about it starting today. When the time is right, it will surely arrive.”
“The doctor also said we need moderation.”
Lu Xinghe: “…”
“How about once a week?”
Lu Xinghe remained silent for a moment. He still felt protective of Duan Yeluo. It was no big deal for him to hold back. He nodded. “Alright, I’ll listen to you.”
Duan Yeluo smiled and ruffled his hair. “Good boy, good boy.”
They eventually reached an agreement not to focus on having a baby and to let nature take its course in that regard.
.
So, for the next few months, the two of them threw themselves entirely into their careers.
The ‘Guardian Chip’ was like a dark horse in the field of biotechnology. It was no longer limited to treating secondary differentiation genetic defects but had been formally introduced into use for various other diseases, receiving a high level of positive feedback. Furthermore, with the subsidies from the Galaxy Group and the government, it had helped many people living alone who lacked self-care abilities.
It truly made technology accessible to the public.
…
The double doors of the executive conference room slowly opened, and calm, unhurried footsteps emerged.
The young man leading the way was dressed in a crisp black suit, his face composed and serene behind his gold-rimmed glasses. Although he was the youngest CEO in the history of the Galaxy Group, his noble and refined demeanor still exerted an invisible pressure.
Not to mention the ruthless tactics hidden beneath his gentle appearance.
Chief Secretary Lin Wen followed closely, with managers from various departments behind her.
Duan Yeluo glanced sideways at his secretary. “What is the schedule for this afternoon and evening?”
“This afternoon is a meeting with the Chairman of the Carlo Group. The evening is a dinner banquet hosted by the Carlo Group at six o’clock. The banquet will last about an hour and a half.”
Duan Yeluo nodded. “Alright. You’ll go with me tonight. I’ll drive.”
Chief Secretary Lin Wen was startled. “Huh? You’ll drive? Without a driver?” She knew her boss couldn’t drive at night because of his night blindness.
“It’s fine. I’ll park the car outside. I mainly need you to drive it back,” Duan Yeluo added. “My Alpha will come to pick me up.”
Lin Wen finally understood and smiled. “Alright, I understand.”
Back in the CEO’s office.
Duan Yeluo received a call from Lu Xinghe. When he answered, hearing the other’s voice, his expression immediately softened, losing the ruthless demeanor he had during the meeting just moments ago.
“Dear Young CEO Duan, where are you finishing work tonight?”
Lu Xinghe, on the other end of the phone, was in their new home, personally arranging every decoration. They would officially move in next month.
“At the Carlo Hotel. There’s a dinner banquet tonight.”
Lu Xinghe ‘mhm’d,’ placing a vase by the stairwell and stepping back to adjust its position. “I’ll come to pick you up. Remember not to drink alcohol.”
Duan Yeluo walked to his chair and sat down, relieving the soreness in his legs from standing for so long during the meeting. “I know. Definitely won’t drink. What are you doing right now?”
Compared to him, who had to be at the Group at fixed times every day and had countless meetings, Lu Xinghe was like a devoted husband who had ample time to spend with him, was available on call, and reliably came to pick him up after work.
This was also because Lu Xinghe had enough capital to be an investor.
He had even recently risen to become a top global investor, with all over ten of his invested companies going public, dominating the stock market.
“I’m decorating our cozy home right now.” Lu Xinghe walked toward the elevator, pressed the third-floor button, and entered as the doors opened. “Grandfather Luo just asked me to go to the old mansion.”
“What did my Grandpa want you to go for?”
“He said he was passing on the family’s Princess Room to me and asked me to collect all the clothes from the Little Princess’s wardrobe. Those clothes are so extravagant, even more numerous than ours. Why didn’t he give some to Kui Kui?”
Duan Yeluo laughed. He had heard about this since he was a child. Back then, his Grandfather, Luo Panzhi, had desperately wished for a daughter and completely renovated the walk-in closet into a Princess Room, but only ended up having his father, Luo Songran.
He laughed. “Ten Kui Kuis couldn’t wear all the clothes in that room.”
“What if we have a son?”
“Then there’s nothing we can do about it.”
Knock, knock, knock—
“Young CEO Duan, we need to go to the Galaxy Research Institute.”
Duan Yeluo looked at the secretary, Lin Wen, who had knocked on the door, and nodded. He then said to Lu Xinghe on the phone, “I have to go to work now. Talk tonight. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Only then did they hang up the phone.
Duan Yeluo stood up. Perhaps because he got up too quickly, a wave of dizziness rushed over him, and his face instantly turned pale. He subconsciously held onto the desk.
Lin Wen was startled and immediately rushed over to support him. “What’s wrong, Young CEO Duan?” She helped him sit back down in the chair. “I’ll pour you a glass of water.”
She then walked to the nearby pantry to pour water.
Duan Yeluo leaned back in the chair, frowning and closing his eyes, trying to alleviate the sudden onset of dizziness. A layer of cold sweat beaded on his forehead, and an indescribable nausea rose from his stomach.
“Here you go, Young CEO Duan. I mixed some sugar water for you. Drink a little to feel better.” Lin Wen quickly walked to Duan Yeluo with the glass cup and handed it to him. “Is it low blood sugar?”
He took the cup and said thank you. He lowered his head and took a sip. It was just normal lukewarm sugar water, but drinking it made the nausea intensely surge up. It was an indescribable feeling of revulsion.
…He was actually feeling sick and nauseous from a cup of water.
He put down the cup, stood up, and walked toward the restroom, his face looking very unwell.
He felt terribly like throwing up.
