The Innocent 'Green Tea' Alpha at Home is Actually My Boss - Chapter 32
“Are you alright now?” Wang Gu asked in an extremely low voice, expressing his concern for Sang Weilian as he and Zhang Chuntao arrived to pick him up.
“Yeah. What did the production crew say?” Sang Weilian hadn’t appeared for four days, and he wasn’t sure if the people on set were privately gossiping about his sudden heat.
“No one said anything,” Wang Gu replied. “No one knows you were in heat; they all think you had a bad cold and a fever.”
Sang Weilian stopped in his tracks. “You told them that?”
“Lu Lin asked me to say it. He said it wasn’t appropriate for him, an Alpha, to stay in the same room with you for so many days. Even if you claim to be brothers to the public, it’s a sensitive period after all, and it wasn’t convenient for him to show his face. He told me if anyone asked, I should just say you had a fever.”
Wang Gu recalled the early morning three days ago. Before dawn, Lu Lin had called him and asked to meet in a stairwell without surveillance, where he laid out the excuses he had prepared to handle others.
At that time, Lu Lin had heavy dark circles under his eyes and bloodshot pupils. Since it was Sang Weilian who was in heat, why had Lu Lin made himself look so haggard?
Was it an unpleasant time in bed? Or was Lu Lin an Alpha who was “strong on the outside but hollow on the inside”?
Thinking of this, Wang Gu couldn’t help but steal another glance at Sang Weilian. He noticed Sang wasn’t wearing a high collar today; at least there were no improper marks on his neck.
Looking further at the exposed gland on the back of his neck there was no bite mark?!
“Did… did he not mark you?” Wang Gu asked, then realized something was off. “Holy crap, you guys didn’t get a permanent mark, did you?!”
Was that why there were no traces left on the gland?
“I don’t think so.” Zhang Chuntao was an Omega and could smell the extremely faint scent of Sang Weilian’s own Omega pheromones. If he had been permanently marked by an Alpha, he would only emit the pheromone scent of the Alpha who marked him.
“What’s the situation then?” Wang Gu looked completely bewildered.
“You’re so gossipy.” Sang Weilian gave him a cold, indifferent look and asked, “Where is Lu Lin?”
Wang Gu gave a silly smile, not daring to ask further, and shook his head. “Haven’t seen him.”
Sang Weilian’s brow furrowed slightly as he changed the subject. “Let’s head to the set first.”
When Sang Weilian appeared at the filming location, He Ming was quite surprised. After a round of warm greetings, he said, “I was actually going to say, Teacher Sang, if you were feeling unwell due to not adjusting to the local environment, you could actually rest for a few more days. I’ve already adjusted this week’s shooting schedule.”
Not adjusting to the environment?
This was likely another part of the excuse Lu Lin had helped Wang Gu come up with for the public.
“I’m fine, thank you for your concern, Director He.” After politely thanking him, Sang Weilian added, “But there’s no need to trouble you to accommodate me further. It’s too much trouble to change the schedule again. I’ll just stay on set these next few days to observe and learn.”
He Ming was flattered. Sang Weilian had been in very few production crews. Although everyone said he was professional, there were rumors in the industry that he was difficult to get along with. He hadn’t expected him to be quite easy to talk to regarding work; perhaps he was just a bit distant toward strangers in daily life.
“Alright, alright. Feel free, Teacher Sang.”
After chatting with him, He Ming arranged a chair for him and continued directing the shoot.
Today they were filming the scene where Luo Tu falls off a cliff. He Ming had prepared a stunt double for Yu Guangxi, but Yu chose to do it himself to pursue a more realistic effect.
The cliff at the film base was simulated and not high. The visual effect could be created through post-production, but the rolling phase was still quite real. Yu Guangxi’s manager was incredibly worried, unable to sit still and pacing back and forth with small, nervous steps.
“Don’t worry, didn’t Teacher Yu study Sanda (Chinese kickboxing) before? He must know some basic self-defense techniques,” Wang Gu comforted his colleague.
“What if he scrapes his face on a pebble? That’s the face he uses to earn a living!”
“It won’t come to that. Director He’s safety measures are well-done.”
Sang Weilian sat next to the two of them, listening to their chatter while watching the filming progress.
Yu Guangxi indeed wasn’t a naturally gifted actor, but hard work could make up for a lack of talent. The filming experience he had accumulated over the years allowed him to handle the rolling scene well to avoid injury.
When he stood up from the bottom of the simulated cliff, he wasn’t injured at all. It was just a pity that his arms were a bit stiff because he was protecting himself during the fall. Fortunately, it didn’t affect the final look, so the take was a success.
After the makeup artist took him to apply “injury makeup,” they filmed an additional shot of him lying on the ground unconscious and injured after the fall. That concluded the scene.
Next, they were going to film a fight scene with extras, so Yu Guangxi stepped out from the center of the frame.
After taking just two steps, his eyes caught sight of Sang Weilian. Without even wiping the dust off his hands, he jogged straight over.
“Teacher Sang, is your health alright?” Yu Guangxi asked, while casually sizing up Sang Weilian, trying to see if there was anything different about him.
For example… being marked by an Alpha.
“Quite well.” Sang Weilian lifted his eyes to look up at him, remembering the night Lu Lin arrived—Yu Guangxi seemed to have been following behind them.
He didn’t know how much Yu had seen. Would Wang Gu’s story about not adjusting to the climate or having a fever hold up?
If Yu Guangxi was talkative and wanted to ask questions, how should he answer? Or it wasn’t impossible that he might spread rumors.
Yu Guangxi breathed a sigh of relief. However, the image of that Alpha who was intimate with Sang Weilian that night wouldn’t leave his mind. He could only try his best to appear relaxed. “That’s good then. Did Director He tell you? You can rest for a couple more days if you need to.”
“He did, but I’m already recovered. Watching you all film here will help me get into character sooner.”
He didn’t ask.
Sang Weilian felt relieved. Luckily, while Yu Guangxi seemed boisterous, he was actually quite tactful.
“Did Teacher Sang see the part I just filmed?” Yu Guangxi asked with a pleasant surprise.
“I did.”
Yu Guangxi immediately seized the opportunity. “Then the way I filmed it… is there anything that could be improved?”
When he asked, his eyes were full of anticipation. There was no cowardice on his face about potentially being criticized; instead, he was very eager.
In a way, he was a bit similar to Lu Lin.
Realizing he was thinking about Lu Lin again, Sang Weilian quickly snapped back to reality. He lowered his gaze and blinked; when he opened his eyes again, they were clear. “You were scared when you rolled down, weren’t you?”
The smile on Yu Guangxi’s face stiffened. He started fidgeting, looking embarrassed like someone whose weakness had been discovered. After a long pause, he stammered, “I… I’m a bit afraid of heights.”
Sang Weilian was stunned. He looked toward the simulated cliff; it was about four meters high.
“Is it embarrassing? Such a tall guy like me being afraid of heights,” Yu Guangxi said, his face turning red with awkwardness.
“No, everyone has things they are afraid of.” Sang Weilian withdrew his gaze. “If the stiffness in your movements is caused by a physiological reaction, then you can only practice more. We have many scenes together on the city walls later, and those are much higher than this small artificial hill.”
“You can treat every high-altitude shoot in the future as a practice. You don’t have to completely overcome it, but there’s nothing to lose by challenging yourself.”
Yu Guangxi nodded repeatedly, listening very seriously. Once Sang finished speaking, he ran to his bag, pulled out his script, spread it out before Sang Weilian, and asked several questions.
The script was covered in dense notes Yu Guangxi had made himself; it was clear he was indeed very hardworking.
Sang Weilian was exceptionally gifted in acting. Even with talent superior to others, he considered himself never to have been slack. People around him described him as serious and hardworking, and some even secretly called him a “drama nut.”
Seeing Yu Guangxi’s notes now, he was still shocked. He had never dissected every single detail so meticulously himself.
Beyond the shock, Sang Weilian also became serious, carefully answering every question Yu Guangxi raised.
“What are you two teachers chatting about? So serious.” He Ming finished filming the extras’ fight scene and was about to call Yu Guangxi to continue preparations when he turned around and saw him sitting with Sang Weilian, holding a thick script and talking.
“I’m learning!” Yu Guangxi looked up, his tone excited.
He Ming pointed at the dust on his face and couldn’t help but laugh. “You haven’t even changed your makeup yet; you’re studying way too seriously.”
Yu Guangxi immediately remembered there was more filming to do and scrambled up. “Teacher Sang, can I come to consult you again after I finish work tonight?”
Sang Weilian nodded. “Yeah.”
“That’s great! Director He, I’m going to change my makeup now. I’m so sorry for taking up your time!” Yu Guangxi cheered, then hurriedly greeted He Ming and ran toward the dressing room.
As a director, seeing the lead actor work so hard made it impossible for He Ming not to be happy.
He patted his belly, in a great mood. “Being able to work with Teacher Sang is simply a blessing I’ve earned over several lifetimes. With you here, I’m at ease. I don’t even need to explain the scenes to Little Yu myself anymore.”
“Director He, are you openly trying to be lazy?” Sang Weilian pointed out his hidden intention without ceremony.
He Ming scratched the back of his head. “Oh, Teacher Sang saw through me. It’s not that I don’t want to teach; it’s just that his learning from me isn’t as efficient as learning from you. He’s your fan after all. With his idol teaching him personally I’m so magnanimous, I have to give him more opportunities.”
“When Little Yu makes it big in the future and mentions it to others, maybe he’ll say a few good words for me.”
Sang Weilian smiled but didn’t want to chat further. Leaving Wang Gu, who was chatting happily with the director, he packed his things and headed back to the hotel first.
Zhang Chuntao quickly grabbed the belongings and followed.
“I’m going back to sleep for a bit. Go about your business, no need to follow me,” Sang Weilian instructed once they reached the hotel.
Zhang Chuntao paused and said, “Then your lunch…”
“I’ll go to the restaurant myself when I wake up.”
Zhang Chuntao wasn’t at ease and repeatedly urged him before Sang Weilian closed the door: “Then remember to go eat!”
Sang Weilian slept until evening and only woke up when there was a knock on the door.
He walked over in a daze and opened the door. The person at the door waved a bag in their hand. “Teacher Sang, is this your meal?”
“…What?” Sang Weilian cleared his head and looked at the bag holding a lunch box. On the inside of the bag was a blue sticky note.
Reaching out to take it, Sang Weilian turned his back and pulled out the note, seeing the words on it.
I will come back to bring you dinner tonight
It was still written by Lu Lin, with a small emoji of two fingers pointing at each other at the end.
“Teacher Sang didn’t eat lunch at the set; did you come back and order takeout? But it looks like this has gone cold. How about I treat you to dinner? As a return for the lesson you gave me.” Yu Guangxi stood at the door. His upbringing told him it wasn’t quite appropriate to follow Sang Weilian who was an Omega inside, even if he was a Beta himself.
It was also at this moment that he noticed Sang Weilian’s turned back; there was no bite mark on the gland at the nape of his neck, and there were no traces of a second person’s belongings in the room.
So, that Alpha and Sang Weilian aren’t in the relationship I imagined?
As this thought emerged, Yu Guangxi couldn’t quite hide his joy.
Sang Weilian placed the takeout bag on the table, stuffed the sticky note into his pocket, and put one hand in his own pocket, not noticing anything unusual about the other man. “No need. Let’s go to the meeting room for the script reading.”
“Okay.” Yu Guangxi nodded quickly.
Walking to the elevator, he proactively pressed the button.
In a moment, the elevator doors opened, and the smile on Yu Guangxi’s face froze.
Inside the elevator, Lu Lin, who was carrying dinner, was startled as he met Sang Weilian’s eyes.
