The Crematorium of the Top Omega Chasing After Alpha - Chapter 7.2
Lieutenant Lin, who had been waiting outside the rest cabin, breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing them approach.
“General.”
“Has Song Song woken up?” Ming Yu asked.
“Not yet. According to the sleep monitor, Miss Song Song has been sleeping very soundly.”
Ming Yu nodded. “Good. You may go now and arrange for the starship to make a brief stop at Lanxing.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Having received her orders, Lieutenant Lin turned and left.
Entering the rest cabin, they saw Song Song sleeping soundly on the bed, hugging a comfort doll. Her chubby little face was mostly buried in the doll’s body, looking both comical and adorable.
Exchanging a tacit glance, the two quietly retreated.
Then, another prolonged silence fell.
Ming Yu was utterly exhausted from the physical and mental strain of her heat cycle, but she refused to show any weakness in front of the other. She had to maintain absolute dominance in this relationship; otherwise, there was no telling what delusions this inferior Alpha might entertain or what harmful actions she might take.
Meanwhile, Song Qingpei, having gathered from their conversation that they were nearing their destination, grew increasingly wary. Given Ming Yu’s recent hostile behavior, she couldn’t help but feel apprehensive.
She feared that Ming Yu, with her authoritarian nature, might go to any lengths to keep Song Song by her side to build a bond, only to cast her aside when the time was right. That two-year agreement might just be a stalling tactic.
After much hesitation, Song Qingpei finally spoke up, “What are your plans for us once we reach Lanxing?”
“What do you think?” Ming Yu countered evasively.
Dissatisfied with her ambiguous response, Song Qingpei pressed with a grave expression, “Ming Yu, I’m being serious about Song Song’s situation. Have you considered how you’ll introduce her to others?”
It was a very practical question.
If Ming Yu couldn’t properly resolve this issue, Song Song would inevitably be hurt. Yet, if she openly acknowledged Song Song’s identity, Ming Yu would undoubtedly face pressure from her family and public opinion. Whichever choice she made, it seemed.
Before she could finish her thought, Ming Yu sneered, “My daughter, Song Song does she need to hide her identity in secrecy?”
“I never said we should hide Song Song’s identity!” Song Qingpei retorted. “But you must consider the impact that revealing her identity will have on her.”
“I can’t see any negative impact. Song Song should grow up surrounded by admiration, she will only be proud of me.”
At this, Ming Yu glanced at Song Qingpei and mocked, “Song Qingpei, don’t project your own insecurities onto others. For Song Song, you, as her mother, are the one holding her back.”
“You…” Song Qingpei was infuriated by her words. “Ming Yu!”
“What? Did I say something wrong?” Ming Yu scoffed disdainfully.
Just thinking about how she had been humiliated by this inferior Alpha not long ago, begging pathetically for her mark, made Ming Yu want to crush every last shred of Song Qingpei’s self-respect.
Song Qingpei’s face turned ashen, her chest heaving with rage, but she couldn’t utter a single word.
Ming Yu’s words had undoubtedly struck the deepest wound in her heart, repeatedly reminding her of the gap between them, leaving her feeling both humiliated and powerless.
Seeing Song Qingpei so thoroughly defeated, Ming Yu felt a sense of satisfaction and seized the moment to add, “Remember, allowing you to stay is already my greatest mercy. Just do as I say obediently. If you don’t know your place, don’t blame me for being ruthless!”
As the two were arguing, the rest cabin door slid open, and Song Song, still drowsy, rubbed her sleepy eyes. “Mommy, Mama, what are you talking about? It’s so loud!”
Hearing Song Song’s sweet, childish voice, both Ming Yu and Song Qingpei froze, immediately masking their displeasure and replacing it with smiles.
Song Song ran toward them.
Song Qingpei reached out and pulled her into an embrace, planting a gentle kiss on her rosy cheek. “Song Song, you’re awake.”
Song Song nuzzled against her cheek affectionately. “Mommy, I’m hungry. I want to eat.”
Song Qingpei dotingly tapped her little nose. “Alright, go wash up first, and then Mommy will take you to eat, okay?”
“Mm-hmm. Song Song will go get clean.”
Song Song nodded obediently, then wiggled her little bottom as she bounced off to wash up.
Watching the tacit understanding and warm interaction between mother and daughter, Ming Yu’s expression darkened instantly. If it weren’t for Song Qingpei taking her daughter away, she should be the one sharing such intimacy with Song Song.
Damn it, all because of this inferior Alpha.
By the time Song Song finished washing up, before Song Qingpei could make a move, Ming Yu had already stepped forward and picked Song Song up.
“Song Song, how about Mama takes you to eat?” Then, as if afraid Song Song might refuse, she added enticingly, “After we eat, Mama will take you to pilot a mecha, okay?”
“Okay!”
Song Song was instantly captivated by the tempting offer.
Ming Yu smiled with satisfaction and carried Song Song out.
Halfway there, Song Song finally remembered her poor mother and called out to Song Qingpei, “Mommy, come on, let’s go eat!”
Before Song Qingpei could speak, Ming Yu shot her a cold, warning glance and said casually, “Song Song, your mother still has things to do. Let’s go eat first.”
Song Qingpei, who had been involuntarily assigned tasks, remained silent.
The innocent Song Song chimed in, “Mom, come quickly! We’ll be waiting for you.”
As Ming Yu carried Song Song past Song Qingpei, she snorted coldly, “If you’re busy, take your time. No need to rush.”
Song Qingpei clenched her fists tightly, struggling to suppress the anger boiling inside her. Don’t get angry, she told herself, it’s not worth getting worked up over someone like this.
With the air of a victor, Ming Yu carried Song Song out of the rest cabin.
Left with nothing to do, Song Qingpei could only catch up on sleep in the rest cabin until Li Man contacted her through Lieutenant Lin, asking her to come to the medical bay.
The test results must be out, she thought, a flicker of hope igniting within her. Could it be that there was a mistake in my test? Maybe I’m not truly an inferior Alpha after all. Maybe I still have a chance to pursue the career I love. Suppressing her excitement, she made her way to the medical bay, filled with anticipation.
Li Man smiled and handed her the test results.
With trembling hands, Song Qingpei took the report and slowly flipped it open. The results gradually came into view:
Pheromone response: weak. Psychic ability: below average. Designation: Inferior Alpha.
There was no need to read further. Song Qingpei let out a numb laugh and murmured, “I knew it. How could the test results be wrong so easily? Dr. Li, I’m sorry for troubling you.”
Noticing her dejection, Li Man tried to comfort her, “Don’t take it too hard. Being chosen by the General proves you’re still exceptional.”
Way to rub salt in the wound, Song Qingpei thought, sinking even deeper into despair. She felt utterly defeated and replied weakly, “Dr. Li, I won’t keep you. I’ll take my leave if there’s nothing else.”
After watching Song Qingpei leave, Li Man’s gaze lingered, her expression shifting uncertainly.
The test results clearly indicated Song Qingpei was an inferior Alpha, yet her actions contradicted that entirely. She had permanently marked Ming Yu, who possessed formidable psychic abilities, and the mark couldn’t be erased, a completely paradoxical phenomenon.
Unless…
After a moment of deep thought, she finally opened her comm device and dialed an encrypted call.
“Teacher, the person you’ve been searching for has appeared. I’m sending you all her information right away.”
