- Chapter 8 - Don’t Play Dumb, Comfort Me
Not long after Song Qingpei returned to her resting cabin, Lieutenant Lin brought Song Song back.
She couldn’t help but feel surprised. Ming Yu had taken Song Song away through a mix of coercion and persuasion, how could he have sent her back so soon?
“Where’s your mommy?”
Though the question seemed directed at Song Song, it was actually meant for Lieutenant Lin.
Lieutenant Lin promptly explained, “Miss Song, the General has gone to attend a military meeting. The Feiyun will dock on Lan Star in three hours. You can start packing your things in the meantime.”
Song Qingpei said nothing, but inwardly, she couldn’t help but grumble.
How she had been “invited” onto the Feiyun was still fresh in her mind. At the time, there had been no chance to gather any belongings. Even the clothes she had to change into were makeshift new military uniforms provided by Lieutenant Lin.
Seeing her complicated expression, Lieutenant Lin caught on and awkwardly tried to smooth things over. “Well, since you didn’t rest well in the confinement room, perhaps you should take a nap now.”
Once again, the conversation hit a dead end. Embarrassed, Lieutenant Lin made an excuse and slipped away.
Exhausted, Song Qingpei took the opportunity to hold her daughter and doze off for a while. Unexpectedly, she slept soundly until they reached their destination.
The Feiyun starship made only a brief stop on Lan Star.
Song Qingpei was awakened by Lieutenant Lin. Still groggy, she took her daughter and followed him off the starship. After nearly three hours of travel, Lieutenant Lin finally brought them to a magnificent Chinese-style estate.
Outside the estate, over a dozen people stood in uniform, waiting to greet them.
She was instantly stunned the scene was quite intimidating.
Lieutenant Lin introduced, “Miss Song, this is the General’s home. You and Miss Song Song can settle in here for now. The General is attending a military meeting on Lan Star and will return later.”
“Alright, I understand.”
Song Qingpei gently patted Song Song to wake her. Blinking sleepily, Song Song mumbled, “Hmm, Mommy, where are we?”
“This is Song Song’s new home. Come, let’s take a look.”
She deliberately said “Song Song’s” and not “ours.” Fortunately, Song Song was still too young to notice the distinction.
Immediately excited, Song Song sat up and curiously observed everything outside.
Lieutenant Lin had already opened the car door. As Song Qingpei carried Song Song out, the dozen or so uniformed staff bowed in unison. “Welcome home, Young Miss.”
Song Song, fully embracing her extroverted nature, waved and greeted them in her childish voice, “Helloo~”
A man around forty years old, dressed in a black tailcoat, stepped out from the gray-uniformed group and said respectfully, “Miss Song, greetings. I am the butler of Shanshui Estate. You may call me Butler Su. I have prepared your and the young miss’s rooms as instructed by the General. Would you prefer to rest in your rooms first or take a tour of the estate?”
Song Song beamed with excitement. “Mommy, let’s go play!”
Before she could finish, Song Qingpei covered her mouth. Song Song widened her innocent eyes, seemingly unable to understand why she wasn’t allowed to speak. Song Qingpei, being new to the place and unfamiliar with everything, didn’t want to cause any trouble.
She smiled at Butler Su and said, “We’ll head to our rooms first. Thank you, Butler Su.”
After bidding farewell to Lieutenant Lin, Song Qingpei took Song Song’s hand and followed Butler Su into the estate. The dozen or so staff who had greeted them trailed behind, making her feel rather uneasy.
As they walked, the surrounding landscape unfolded serene waters reflecting distant mountains, elegant pavilions and towers, artfully arranged rockeries and bridges, and lush, well-tended flora. It was truly a breathtaking sight.
She had only ever seen such a place online before, but today she finally experienced it firsthand. It was so real it was breathtaking, yet it made her acutely aware once again of the gap between them.
Song Song widened her eyes, looking around here and there, exclaiming in admiration incessantly.
“Wow! So beautiful!”
“Mom, look over there, there are swans!”
“Mom, Mom, look.”
Song Qingpei’s feelings grew increasingly complicated. A bitter smile formed in her heart, and she felt more and more inferior.
Butler Su remained silent the entire time. After leading them to their accommodations on the second floor, he introduced, “Miss Song, this entire floor belongs to the young miss. It includes a walk-in closet, study, piano room, and playroom. Please take the young miss to look around first. If there’s anything unsatisfactory, let me know, and I’ll have it improved.”
Song Qingpei: “…”
What could possibly be unsatisfactory? She wouldn’t even dare to dream of such things.
Whether intentional or not, Ming Yu had indeed delivered a powerful blow, making her clearly realize the disparity in the material conditions the two of them could provide for their daughter. If she were to cruelly take her daughter away, the guilt would overwhelm her.
After Butler Su left, Song Qingpei felt utterly disheartened.
Yet she could only force a smile, unwilling to let her daughter notice and disrupt her excitement about exploring the new home.
As Butler Su had said, the entire second floor was astonishingly large. Before they had even seen all the rooms, Song Song was drawn into the playroom, refusing to come out no matter how hard she was pulled. Song Qingpei had no choice but to helplessly accompany her in playing.
Dinner was brought up by Butler Su’s staff. After eating, they continued playing until the little one was completely exhausted. She dozed off, leaning on the interactive robot’s neck, mumbling in her sleep, “I will defeat you.”
Song Qingpei couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time. She carefully carried her daughter back to the bedroom and laid her on the bed. Only then did she finally relax completely, the day had been utterly exhausting.
As soon as her head touched the soft pillow, she couldn’t resist falling asleep.
Ming Yu returned at one in the morning. Upon learning that Song Qingpei was sleeping on the second floor, she went straight up.
Her heat cycle had already begun, surging more intensely than ever before.
But unlike the forced resistance with suppressants in the past, thanks to Song Qingpei’s previous comfort, she didn’t feel particularly agonized. Instead, it felt as if a feather had lightly brushed against her heart, bringing a tingling warmth that stirred a faint longing within her. This longing grew from faint to intense, gradually spreading throughout her body.
It was as if her body had already tasted that ultimate pleasure and was unwilling to resort to self-torment to satisfy this innate desire. It urgently craved a more intense delight to fill the emptiness.
Ming Yu walked up to the second floor, her footsteps light. She pushed open the bedroom door.
On the bed, Song Qingpei was sound asleep, holding Song Song tightly. The mother and daughter were pressed close together, their faces wearing similarly serene, gentle smiles, as if they were dreaming of something wonderful.
Ming Yu slowly approached, standing by the bedside, quietly watching the pair.
The scene made her somewhat dazed, and memories she had forcibly suppressed came flooding back.
Once upon a time.
Every day she woke up to a similar scene. Sometimes that person would wrap an arm around her waist lazily and say, “Wife, let’s sleep a little longer~” before forcibly pulling her back into their embrace. Other times, they would shamelessly hold her and plant a few kisses, and on more excessive occasions, their hands would slip beneath her clothes, acting without restraint.
Ming Yu snapped back to reality and shook her head in frustration. Why was she even thinking about this?
Song Qingpei was nothing but a despicable, low-tier Alpha. Initially, saving her might have been driven by greed, but later, it was likely an attempt to seize an opportunity to turn their life around. Otherwise, why would Song Qingpei not have sent her back when news of her disappearance had already spread across the galaxy? It wasn’t until she gave birth and regained her memories that things changed.
She had merely made an offhand remark to distance herself, and without a word, Song Qingpei took the child away. It was hard not to suspect that they intended to use the child to control her, harboring ulterior motives. And indeed, the evidence showed that Song Qingpei had used the child to improve their own living conditions.
As for that minuscule possibility of so-called sincerity.
She wouldn’t gamble on such a slim chance, nor did she need something so elusive and intangible.
Song Qingpei was sound asleep but seemed to sense someone watching them. They jolted awake abruptly, their eyes meeting Ming Yu’s scrutinizing gaze, and scrambled to sit up in a panic.
“Ming Yu!”
Ming Yu concealed the complex emotions in her eyes and spoke hoarsely, “Get up. You can’t sleep here.”
Still groggy from sleep, Song Qingpei instinctively obeyed, halfway through the motion before realizing they had been conditioned by Ming Yu’s behavior. They grumbled under their breath, “You, what are you doing awake in the middle of the night?”
“Enough talk. Come with me.”
Ming Yu turned and walked out.
Song Qingpei seethed inwardly but didn’t dare voice their anger, reluctantly following her up to the third floor at a sluggish pace.
“In the middle of the night, what exactly are you trying to do.”
They muttered discontentedly, but as soon as they stepped inside, the rest of their words caught in their throat.
Ming Yu had already removed her military jacket, and her slender fingers were unbuttoning her white shirt. Like a slow-motion scene in a movie, as each button came undone, it revealed the fullness of her chest and the well-defined lines of her abdominal muscles.
Unlike ordinary slimness, her physique was both alluring and exuded strength.
Song Qingpei instinctively took a step back, but Ming Yu closed the distance in two long strides, standing right in front of them.
As she drew near, a rich Omega pheromone washed over them, and her low, husky voice exploded in their ear:
“Don’t play dumb. Soothe me.”
