- Chapter 21 - Senior, Crying Again
Gu Fei’s ears were burning red. She pressed a tender, pained kiss to the tip of Fu Jinxi’s ear, but she didn’t hesitate for a second as she moved to pull away.
“Sss… Senior!”
Driven to an emotional breakdown by Gu Fei’s refusal, Fu Jinxi leaned in and bit Gu Fei’s collarbone. Weeping, she gripped Gu Fei’s wrist tightly, refusing to let her leave.
“You can’t treat me like this, Gu Fei I won’t let you go.”
“But you’ll get sick if we don’t be careful, Senior.”
The memory of applying medicine to her wife last time was still vivid in her mind. Gu Fei felt that occasion was entirely her fault she hadn’t been honest even while asleep. Now that she was wide awake, she absolutely wouldn’t and didn’t dare to act recklessly again.
“Mm…”
During their struggle, Fu Jinxi’s face suddenly turned pale, and she curled up against Gu Fei’s chest.
“It hurts, Feifei…”
Gu Fei’s heart skipped a beat. She carefully withdrew her wrist and nervously held Fu Jinxi, helping her sit up against the headboard.
“Did I hit you just now?”
Gu Fei knelt before her, leaning in to carefully separate Fu Jinxi’s legs, but the other woman pulled away before she could see anything.
“Senior…”
Gu Fei froze, her expression filled with undeniable guilt and heartache.
“I’m sorry… let me see if it’s serious, okay?”
Fu Jinxi merely looked at her with pale lips before turning her back and curling into a ball on the bed.
“I don’t need you to care, you don’t want to touch me anyway.”
Silent tears fell as Fu Jinxi gripped her fingertips, the corners of her eyes red. Her long nails were still stained with a bit of moisture. Just now, in the struggle, she had accidentally scratched herself.
But she wasn’t going to tell Gu Fei that. She would let her feel guilty.
Hearing those words, Gu Fei’s eyes instantly turned red with pity.
“I didn’t mean it that way…”
She moved closer on her knees and placed her hand gently on Fu Jinxi’s leg.
“I know I was wrong let me look, Senior. ”
“If you look, you have to take responsibility.”
The fair, slender legs moved slightly. Fu Jinxi bit her lip and whispered a reminder.
“You have to take care of me for the rest of your life.”
As she spoke, she glanced sideways to gauge Gu Fei’s expression, trying to find an opportunity to bargain. Ideally, she wanted Gu Fei to promise to divorce Qin Qingwei.
But when she met Gu Fei’s eyes, she only saw that they had somehow become wet with tears.
Silently supporting Fu Jinxi’s knees, Gu Fei held her breath and inspected her carefully. Fu Jinxi gripped the bedsheets beneath her.
Her messy black hair was spread across the pillow. Blushing, Fu Jinxi felt Gu Fei’s shallow breath, but her mind kept replaying the image of Gu Fei’s tears.
After a few seconds, she reached out and took hold of Gu Fei’s fingertips.
“I accidentally scratched myself… it’s not your fault, Feifei.”
“Does it hurt a lot?”
Gu Fei didn’t answer. She simply pursed her lips and stood up, carefully picking the woman up and carrying her off the bed.
“We’re going to the hospital for a check-up.”
“…I’m not going.”
Fu Jinxi turned beet red and hugged Gu Fei’s neck, trying to struggle again.
“It only hurt for a second just now.”
Embarrassed, she tried to talk sense into Gu Fei. “You saw it yourself just now; it’s not serious at all.”
Gu Fei’s eyelashes trembled. With red-rimmed eyes, she stared back.
“It’s swollen. How is that not serious?”
“…Is it?”
Seeing a tear about to fall from Gu Fei’s eye, Fu Jinxi who actually felt mostly fine slowly stopped struggling. She leaned into the embrace, looking a bit sullen.
“Fine. Anyway, I’m not the one losing face, Qin Qingwei is.”
“…”
Gu Fei looked down at her with a mix of helplessness and heartache, carrying her into the master bedroom.
“I said I didn’t want to go into your room with her,” Fu Jinxi mumbled with her eyes closed.
“Didn’t Senior just say you were Qin Qingwei?”
Gu Fei teased her gently as she found a set of clothes to help her dress.
“…I’m not wearing her clothes either.”
Fu Jinxi hooked Gu Fei’s sleeve and directed her to find something else.
“I want to wear your clothes, Feifei.”
“Alright.”
Gu Fei, who only wanted to get her wife to the hospital as quickly as possible, complied unconditionally. She went to the walk-in closet and brought out a set of her own clothes.
But when Fu Jinxi frowned and looked down to adjust the bra, Gu Fei suddenly thought of something and turned red.
“Is Senior sure about this one? I’m smaller than you…”
“Smaller is fine. I’m just not wearing hers.”
Even though her chest felt a bit constricted, Fu Jinxi stubbornly refused to change.
Gu Fei’s lips curved into a helpless smile. She glanced at the woman’s chest and then looked away with a blush. Suddenly remembering something, she went back to the closet and returned with a shopping bag.
“These aren’t Qingwei’s.”
They were from the trip she took with Pei Yao, so… it wasn’t technically a lie. Gu Fei watched silently as Fu Jinxi picked through the bag, then looked away with a red face.
After the clothes were changed, Gu Fei carried Fu Jinxi toward the garage. Within that short distance, the woman in her arms presented her with yet another challenge.
“Gu Fei.”
“Hmm?”
“Were you feeling sorry for me just now, or for Qin Qingwei?”
“…”
Gu Fei’s pace didn’t falter. She kept her lips pursed in silence until she had safely placed the woman in the passenger seat. Only then did she respond softly.
“Whomever I am with at this moment is the one I feel sorry for.”
Even though she knew Gu Fei was being cleverly evasive, Fu Jinxi couldn’t help but let her lips curve into a small smile.
The drive from the house to the hospital took less than fifteen minutes. Gu Fei drove fast but steadily. Almost the instant the car stopped in the hospital garage, she unbuckled her seatbelt and jumped out.
“Slow down.”
Seeing Gu Fei preparing to carry her again, Fu Jinxi let out an instinctive smile. But when she noticed the fine layer of sweat on Gu Fei’s forehead—born from sheer anxiety—she bit her lip and shook her head slightly.
“You don’t need to carry me. Just support me while I walk.”
“Okay, then let’s walk slowly.”
Not fully catching the shift in her mood, Gu Fei carefully helped her out of the car. Having called ahead, she led Fu Jinxi directly to the consultation room.
“Chairman Gu, please help this lady lie down. I need to perform an examination.”
“Alright.”
Gu Fei instinctively moved to guide Fu Jinxi toward the exam table, only to find the woman frozen in place, refusing to take another step.
“What’s wrong?”
“Feifei, I don’t want to do the exam anymore…”
Fu Jinxi stared at the silver-glinting medical instruments in the doctor’s hand. Even though she wasn’t currently in pain, she felt a wave of phantom discomfort wash over her. Gu Fei followed her gaze and froze as well. The tools did look rather intimidating.
“The exam is very quick. These are just auxiliary tools; it won’t hurt much,” the doctor explained with a professional smile.
“…Feifei.”
Not comforted in the slightest, Fu Jinxi clung to Gu Fei’s arm and gave it a small, urgent shake. “Let’s just go home. It really doesn’t hurt anymore.”
“…”
Gu Fei was caught in a dilemma.
“How about this,” the doctor suggested, sensing the impasse. “Chairman Gu, why don’t you examine her and then describe the situation to me?”
“…Okay.”
Gu Fei glanced at the blushing Fu Jinxi, then verbally recounted the observations she had made back at the house.
“It sounds like there’s no major issue. If it’s just redness and swelling, I’ll prescribe some anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving ointments. Apply them on schedule. However, if any discomfort persists, you’ll need to come back for a detailed exam…”
As the doctor lowered her head to write the prescription, she glanced at Gu Fei’s hands. Noticing her short, clean nails, the doctor frowned in confusion, realizing she had guessed wrong. She then instinctively looked at Fu Jinxi’s fingers.
“You should be careful during ‘self-soothing.’ Nails this long can cause injury very easily.”
As she handed the prescription to Gu Fei, the doctor—bound by professional ethics—couldn’t help but offer a gentle word of caution to the masked Fu Jinxi.
“I didn’t do it myself,” Fu Jinxi replied in a low, slightly huffed tone. “Some people were unwilling, so what choice did I have?”
With that, Fu Jinxi snatched the prescription from Gu Fei’s hand and walked out alone, clearly in a huff.
“Thank you, I’m sorry for the trouble.” Gu Fei thanked the doctor hurriedly and rushed out after her.
“Senior.”
Gu Fei caught her wrist and stood in front of her with a helpless, gentle smile. “Are you still mad at me?”
Fu Jinxi looked at her, said nothing, and handed back the prescription. Once she saw Gu Fei take it obediently, her lips curved almost imperceptibly.
“My legs hurt.” She looked at Gu Fei with expectant eyes.
“Then shall I carry you?”
Gu Fei leaned in to lift her, but Fu Jinxi took a step back to dodge.
“I want you to carry me on your back. Can you?”
Gu Fei froze for a second, then smiled and knelt down with her back turned. “Of course I can.”
“Have you ever carried Qin Qingwei on your back?” Fu Jinxi whispered as she leaned against Gu Fei’s ear while they walked toward the pharmacy.
“No,” Gu Fei answered honestly.
“Then from now on, you can only carry me.” Satisfied with the answer, Fu Jinxi pressed a kiss to the tip of her ear. “Right, Feifei?”
“…Right.”
Gu Fei looked down and let out a silent smile. From the beginning until the end, the person she carried and loved was only one.
Back in the car, Gu Fei studied the instructions for the ointment carefully. She activated the car’s privacy windows and led Fu Jinxi to the back seat.
“I don’t see you being this urgent when we’re doing other things.” Fu Jinxi complained in a low voice, her cheeks flushing as she lay back on the seat.
“…”
Gu Fei looked at her and said nothing, though her face was red. She reached for the zipper at the woman’s waist. “It was Senior who was too urgent.”
Her intention hadn’t been to refuse her; she just didn’t want to hurt her without protection. Who knew that in their struggle, Fu Jinxi would end up injured anyway?
“You made me cry, how could I not be urgent?” Fu Jinxi followed Gu Fei’s lead and flexed her legs, letting out a low hum with her eyes closed. “I was crying like that and you just ignored me. Was I not allowed to take matters into my own hands?”
“…”
Gu Fei, finally understanding exactly which part had been “crying,” turned beet red again. She looked down at her fingers, then looked at Fu Jinxi’s face with uncertainty.
“Is Senior, crying again?”
“Do you want me to cry?” Fu Jinxi bit her lip, her face a deep crimson.
“No.”
Gu Fei, her ears burning, showed her the finger-cot-covered hand. “It keeps tearing up, and the ointment is being washed away by Senior.”
