- Chapter 20 - Wife, It Hurts
The fingertips that had been instinctively stroking that delicate skin suddenly stiffened; an alarm blared in Gu Fei’s mind.
She sensed that the person in front of her was likely not Qin Qingwei.
She knew her wife best, and Qin Qingwei rarely played these types of small games with her. So, was it Gu Yi? Was it Pei Yao? Or perhaps…
Maintaining her composure with her eyes closed, Gu Fei’s palm moved slowly, hovering with a phantom touch over the woman’s shoulder. In the darkness, she heard the woman’s ragged, uneven breathing. As her hand settled on that soft, slender waist, Gu Fei applied a slight pressure, easily pulling the woman into her embrace.
“Still haven’t guessed yet?”
The woman, her body already softening against Gu Fei, hooked her arms around Gu Fei’s neck and whispered the question.
Gu Fei’s face turned a delicate shade of red. She pursed her lips and spoke tentatively after a moment’s thought.
“I want to know what the reward is first. Otherwise, I won’t say…”
As the words left her mouth, Gu Fei’s heartbeat was far more violent than the woman’s in her arms. If this were Pei Yao, she would have pinched Gu Fei’s ear by now and called her insatiable. If it were Gu Yi… recalling their brief time at the bar, she would likely have whispered an irresistible reward into her ear with a laugh.
And this person…
Fu Jinxi stared at the seemingly indifferent Gu Fei with red-rimmed eyes. She bit her lip and looked down at herself. The reward was already right there on her body; Gu Fei should have felt it just now. Why was she still acting like this?
Has Qin Qingwei already fed her until she’s full?
Letting out a resentful huff in her heart, a blushing Fu Jinxi unfastened the thin silver chain at her chest. She decided to get straight to the point; she didn’t believe she couldn’t win Gu Fei over like this.
Gu Fei caught the faint sound. The long silence from the woman made her grip the waist in her arms with uncertainty. She kept her eyes shut and called out in a low voice.
“Qingwei?”
Could she have overthought it? Was it really Qin Qingwei playing with her?
“Qingwei, Qingwei… all you know is Qingwei!”
Fu Jinxi, who had been suppressing her frustration all afternoon, finally snapped. She threw the thin silver chain onto the floor and, in her anger, stomped hard on Gu Fei’s foot.
“…”
Gu Fei let out a sharp gasp, instinctively pulling her right leg back. Before she could recover from the pain, she felt the person in her arms wrench themselves free. Then came the sound of hurried footsteps.
Gu Fei snapped her eyes open, blinking as they adjusted to the light. What she saw was a pale, slender figure running away from her into the distance.
“Wife…”
Chasing after her in worry, Gu Fei reached the guest room door just as Fu Jinxi slammed it shut and locked it.
“Wife?”
Gu Fei tapped lightly on the door, her voice soft with apology. “I’m sorry…”
By now, it was one hundred percent certain: the person inside was a new personality of Qin Qingwei’s.
“Let me in… wife?”
Hearing Gu Fei’s low, gentle voice from outside, Fu Jinxi leaned her back against the door and slowly slid down to a squat, hugging her knees. She bit her lip as her eyes welled up; her beautiful eyes were full of heartbreak and resentment.
It’s always Qin Qingwei. Not only did she steal my body, she stole Gu Fei too… How hateful, this squatter!
Unaware that the person inside was having a sulking match with herself, Gu Fei tapped on the door again. Receiving no response, she hesitated for a moment before turning to fetch the spare key for the guest room.
As the sound of Gu Fei’s footsteps receded, Fu Jinxi panicked. She stood up and called out tentatively through the door.
“Gu Fei?”
“Feifei?”
When there was still no reply, Fu Jinxi assumed Gu Fei had run out of patience. Frantic and angry, she burst into tears. No, she couldn’t stay angry at Gu Fei; wouldn’t that just push her further toward Qin Qingwei?
Without even stopping to wipe her tears, she fumbled to unlock the door and swung it open, wanting to find Gu Fei and reconcile.
She ran straight into Gu Fei, who had just returned with the key.
“Mmh…”
Startled but relieved, Gu Fei instinctively caught the person in her arms. But when she looked down at the woman’s body, she turned beet red instantly.
She had turned on the lights in the living room while looking for the key. Now, the bright light from the hallway mingled with the dim glow of the guest room, casting a soft radiance over the woman’s pale skin. Just one glance was enough for Gu Fei to feel the pull of temptation.
“Feifei…”
Fu Jinxi, having composed herself, looked up and spoke softly. “I’ll give you whatever reward you want. Let’s make up, okay?”
“Okay.”
Gu Fei, her mind already a bit hazy, nodded with a crimson face.
It wasn’t until Fu Jinxi shivered in her arms and whispered that she was cold that Gu Fei snapped back to her senses. She held her tighter and began walking toward the master bedroom, her head tilted in confusion.
Wait, wasn’t I the one who upset her? Why is she the one initiating the reconciliation?
Gu Fei couldn’t figure it out, but she didn’t dwell on it. She assumed this new personality simply had an exceptionally considerate nature. At this moment, she had completely pushed aside the fact that her foot still throbbed from being stomped on.
When Gu Fei tried to enter the bedroom to get a robe for her, Fu Jinxi hugged her waist tightly and stopped her with a muffled voice.
“I don’t want to go into your and Qin Qingwei’s room… Feifei… you can’t be this cruel to me…”
“Then…”
Gu Fei froze. This was the first time she had witnessed such direct self-rejection between the personalities.
“Sleep with me in the guest room. Or… your study is fine, too.”
Before Gu Fei could hesitate further, Fu Jinxi had made the decision for her.
“There’s nowhere to sleep in the study…”
Gu Fei responded instinctively, carrying her back into the guest room they had just left.
“Isn’t there a sofa? It’s enough for the two of us to lie down.”
As Gu Fei set her on the bed, Fu Jinxi hooked her finger and whispered the reminder.
“…It’ll be very cramped.”
Gu Fei smiled as she imagined the scene.
“It won’t be. I can lie in your arms, or rest my head on your waist… just like we used to do in the dorm.”
Gu Fei’s heart gave a little jolt as she caught the key information. Her hands, which were busy wrapping the woman in a quilt, slowed down.
“Dorm?”
“Have you even forgotten that?”
Fu Jinxi threw off the thin quilt Gu Fei was trying to cover her with, looking at her with an aggrieved expression. “Now that you have Qin Qingwei, you’ve completely forgotten about me, haven’t you?”
“No.”
Gu Fei turned red as her eyes caught a glimpse of that pale skin again.
“I think you just forgot…”
Fu Jinxi wrapped herself around Gu Fei’s waist and pulled her down, hugging her tight with red-rimmed eyes. “It’s only been three years, yet you’ve forgotten our entire past.”
“I haven’t…”
Stung by the accusation and feeling an instinctive sense of guilt, Gu Fei reached out to touch her cheek. “I just don’t remember some of the details clearly.”
Staring into those mournful and affectionate eyes, a blushing and guilty Gu Fei spun a new lie. “Tell me about it again. I’m sure I’ll remember everything…”
“Liar.”
Fu Jinxi exposed her ruthlessly, yet she couldn’t bear to stay angry. She leaned into Gu Fei’s embrace. “I’m not telling you.”
“…”
Gu Fei let out a helpless smile, realizing her attempt to gather information had failed. She wondered how else she could learn about the past this new personality had created.
While she was lost in thought, Fu Jinxi’s soft, seductive voice drifted into her ear.
“I’m going to make you experience it all over again. With the new memories we create together, I’ll erase every trace of Qin Qingwei from your mind.”
“…”
Gu Fei blinked, unsure whether to be happy or troubled. Why did this new personality have such a strong grievance against her wife?
“Because she took advantage of a moment of weakness and stole you away from me.”
It wasn’t until Fu Jinxi responded while cupping her face that Gu Fei realized she had accidentally spoken her thought aloud.
“Why do you say that?”
Looking at the genuine resentment in her eyes, Gu Fei didn’t argue. She simply asked the question softly.
“Because that is the truth…”
Fu Jinxi stared back at her with red, aggrieved eyes. “She’s a thief. She stole my body, and then she used your feelings for me to trick you into marrying her.”
The story was becoming quite confusing. Gu Fei wanted to ask for more details, but seeing the pain in the woman’s eyes, she didn’t have the heart. She tenderly kissed away the tears at the corners of her eyes.
“Wife, don’t cry…”
“You aren’t allowed to call me ‘wife’… right now, Qin Qingwei is your legitimate wife.”
Fu Jinxi, still not pacified, gripped Gu Fei’s fingertips and stared resentfully at the ring on her hand. “You can call me that only after you divorce her.”
“…”
Gu Fei, absolutely certain that day would never come, chose to remain silent.
In the quiet, Fu Jinxi sensed her attitude and let out a soft huff. As Gu Fei looked down at her, she nuzzled further into her embrace.
“You used to call me Senior, Feifei…”
Gu Fei looked at her with a touch of skepticism. She opened her mouth, but the words wouldn’t come out. She felt like Fu Jinxi was lying to her. Was there really a Senior who cried and acted this spoiled?
Under Fu Jinxi’s expectant yet dissatisfied gaze, a blushing Gu Fei pressed a hand down on her thigh as she tried to nuzzle further.
“…Senior, don’t move around.”
Fu Jinxi’s face flushed slightly, and she bit her lip as she looked at her.
“But I feel uncomfortable…”
“Where does it feel uncomfortable?”
Thinking she was unwell, Gu Fei grew nervous and began worriedly checking her complexion.
“Here.”
Before Gu Fei could react, Fu Jinxi took her hand.
“It’s been crying here the whole time, and you won’t even comfort it…”
“…”
A wave of heat surged through Gu Fei, leaving her frozen and stiff.
“I didn’t know.”
How could it be crying there.
Gu Fei’s mind was so shamed it almost stopped functioning. She stared blankly at her own palm.
“You used to know.”
Fu Jinxi snuggled into her arms with a flushed face. “You used to tease me, saying that as soon as I cried up here, it would start down below.”
Gu Fei, who no longer had any idea what kind of person she was in her wife’s mind, turned red and wrapped her arm around the woman’s waist.
“…Don’t move.”
“Why?”
A clearly aroused Fu Jinxi looked up at her with a face full of grievance. “I feel so uncomfortable. Are you really that unwilling to comfort me? Gu Fei…”
With that, tears began to fall again.
And simultaneously dampened was Gu Fei’s palm.
