- Chapter 6 - If He Can Inherit His Sister-in-Law, He Can Inherit the Company Too
Huo Xuanye rubbed his thumb over the photo. “She is quite famous. You can easily find information about her with a quick online search.”
Huo Zhenzhou remained silent, feeling that his younger brother was acting strangely.
Li Su was also an enigma. Just yesterday, she had been heartbroken over him marrying someone else, yet today she had impulsively married his brother.
Did Li Su really like him that much?
Enough to marry his look alike brother?
Huo Xuanye smirked mischievously. “I am heading back to my wife now. Welcome home, brother. Hope you regain your memories soon.”
After Huo Xuanye left, Huo Zhenzhou stood alone in place.
He picked up his phone and typed in Li Su’s name.
Her Wikipedia page appeared on the screen.
Li Su, born April 3, 2002, just 23 years old this year.
Compelled by some inexplicable urge, Huo Zhenzhou continued scrolling. The page listed her achievements in dance competitions since childhood, her appearances on numerous TV programs, her performances abroad representing China, and even her reception by the president and first lady.
Further down, there was even a section on her romantic history.
In 2024, she became engaged to Huo Zhenzhou, the eldest son of the Huo family. A photo accompanied the entry, him and Li Su holding a cake together, the words “Happy Engagement” written on top.
In the photo, they looked deeply in love, radiant with happiness.
If he hadn’t lost his memory, if he had not been saved by Zhou Motang’s grandfather, they might have become the perfect, enviable couple.
But fate was cruel, and life was unpredictable.
No one could foresee what the future held.
After a few blank lines, the page updated with a new entry:
July 7, 2025, married Huo Xuanye, the second son of the Huo family.
July 7?
Yesterday.
The very day he returned!
So when he saw Li Su at home this morning, she had come with Huo Xuanye?
“Husband~”
Hearing Zhou Motang’s voice, Huo Zhenzhou set his phone down on the table. “What is it?”
Zhou Motang, dressed in a silk slip nightgown and lightly perfumed, threw herself into his arms, pouting coquettishly. “Husband, I was so scared alone in the room. I couldn’t sleep. Will you come to bed with me?”
Huo Zhenzhou raised his arm but hesitated for two seconds, his mind inexplicably flashing back to the photo he had just seen. Still, his arm eventually settled gently on Zhou Motang’s back, giving her a reassuring pat.
“Alright, I will stay with you.”
Zhou Motang pulled away slightly. “Why is there half of a photo of you here~”
She reached for the torn picture, her gaze flickering to the phone screen just before it dimmed, Li Su’s name clearly visible.
Huo Zhenzhou was relieved the screen had turned off. He had only wanted to check the study’s door password, why did it suddenly feel like an almost-caught affair?
“Husband, why is your photo torn~?” Zhou Motang looked up at him with teary eyes. “Who ripped it?”
“The other half was Li Su. Keeping a couple’s photo wouldn’t be appropriate.” Huo Zhenzhou took the torn half from her and tossed it into the trash bin without a second thought.
Seeing this, Zhou Motang looped her arm through his. “The doctor said you need plenty of rest to recover properly. It’ll help your memory return too.”
As the two left the study together, a shadow flickered in Zhou Motang’s eyes.
Huo Zhenzhou had secretly searched for Li Su, was he already regretting his choices?
Or was he developing feelings for her again?
They say that even if lovers lose their memories, they will fall for each other all over again upon meeting.
But their situation was different.
She had gotten there first.
On the other side, Huo Xuanye tucked Li Su’s photo into his pocket and pushed open the bedroom door. There she was, dressed in an apricot-colored nightgown with a thin robe draped over her shoulders, sitting on the sofa watching a dance video.
The moment he stepped in, he caught a whiff of fragrance, a girl’s room was truly different.
“Wifey~”
Huo Xuanye walked toward her.
Li Su responded with a perfunctory “Hmm.”
Huo Xuanye crouched in front of her, leaning his face close to hers in an attempt to catch her attention. “Don’t you like my face anymore? Why won’t you look at me?”
“Or is it that now that you’ve achieved your goal, living in the Huo residence and seeing my brother’s authentic face, you have lost interest in mine?”
Li Su paused the dance video and looked at him. “You told me to treat you as a substitute. What’s your goal in all this?”
Huo Zhenzhou had lost his memory, and Huo Xuanye had lost his mind?
They really were brothers, after all.
“Of course, it is for you, sweetheart~” Huo Xuanye reached out to touch her cheek.
Li Su swatted his hand away. “Do not feed me that oily nonsense. I don’t buy it.”
Huo Xuanye straightened up leisurely, his tall, imposing figure looming over her as he lowered his head. “Then my goal is even simpler, the heir’s position. My brother is marrying an orphan with no family, someone who can’t offer him any advantage. But you, Susu, are different. You have a family, connections, and influence of your own. Mom and Dad adore you as their daughter-in-law. If I don’t make my move now, when should I?”
“What do you think?”
His brow arched slightly, his expression still carrying that signature rebellious arrogance, yet Li Su sensed something different about him this time.
But that was to be expected, she had never truly understood Huo Xuanye before.
After all, in her eyes, he had always just been her fiancé’s younger brother, nothing more.
Li Su let out a soft laugh, slightly surprised. “I did not expect you to be so ambitious.”
Huo Xuanye tilted his head. “A man without ambition is not much of a man, is he? Since ancient times, fighting for power has been in our blood. Even princes fought for the throne, and I only have one older brother.”
Li Su: “I thought the two of you had a good relationship.”
“A good relationship is one thing. The heir’s position is another.”
If he could inherit his brother’s wife, he could inherit the company too.
“Mutual benefit… that puts me at ease.” Li Su tapped the sofa lightly with her fingers. “Since you are aiming for the company, you won’t mind sleeping on the sofa for now, will you?”
Huo Xuanye laughed. So this was her game!
He leaned down, meeting her at eye level. “Mutual benefit, you say? Then tell me, aside from my face, aside from treating me as a substitute, what else do you want?”
His dark eyes reflected Li Su’s delicate, lotus-like complexion, and the faint fragrance in the air made his thoughts drift for a moment.
Feeling him too close, Li Su pressed a slender fingertip against his chest, signaling him to back off. “Naturally, I want him to regain his memory as soon as possible, so I can ruthlessly scorn him, mock him, and abandon him.”
Huo Xuanye lowered his gaze, trailing from her face down to her slender arms, lingering on her jade-like fingers. The contrast between her pale fingertips and his black shirt was striking.
“So vindictive. I’d better be careful not to offend you, then.” Huo Xuanye chuckled. “I will go shower first. Enjoy yourself.”
Su Li was used to sleeping alone. Suddenly sharing a room with someone else felt… unfamiliar.
Still the husband from a whirlwind marriage, and also the younger brother of her ex-fiancé, it felt so strange.
The rustling sound of water from the bathroom made it impossible for Li Su to focus on the video she was watching.
She got up and went into the bedroom, running her fingers over the dark gray bedsheets. A faint frown crossed her face, the gloomy color was terrible for sleep.
She would change them tomorrow!
For tonight, she’d just have to make do.
She climbed into bed, and soon after, Huo Xuanye emerged.
Dressed in a black robe with the collar loosely open, revealing a glimpse of skin, he walked with careless steps yet headed straight for the bed.
Li Su spoke up just in time, “Huo Xuanye, what are you doing here?”
“Going to sleep~”
