After Transmigrating Into A Novel, Not Only Did I Become An Omega, But I Also Provoked The Male Lead’s Mother - Chapter 43
Seeing Bai Zhi in this state, Su Yao decided to give her some time to think. She sighed and prepared to head to the company.
The door closed, and silence returned to the room. Bai Zhi slowly raised her head and stared at the door for a long time. When it remained shut, she knew Su Yao had left for good. Her heart sank slowly.
An indescribable bitterness churned in her chest, like the world’s most bitter bile. She wanted to vomit it out, but she couldn’t. She had to swallow it down, leaving her mouth filled with a bitter taste.
Su Yao must hate her! She must think Bai Zhi is a shameless Omega, disgusting, and that’s why she left so abruptly.
Sobbing, Bai Zhi stood up and slowly packed her luggage. She glanced back at the place where she had lived for the past few days—Su Yao’s home, the place where she had been happiest these past few days.
She still remembered the excitement she felt on the first day she moved in, like eating the sweetest candy in the world, its sweetness reaching deep into her heart.
But she never imagined that the candy’s center was bitter bile, leaving only bitterness behind.
Bai Zhi placed the key in the shoe cabinet and wheeled her luggage out.
She left the residential area, leaving Su Yao’s home behind, and got into a taxi.
As soon as she got in, Bai Zhi couldn’t hold back her tears again. She cried so pitifully that the driver turned around to comfort her, assuming the young woman had been emotionally and physically betrayed.
Bai Zhi sniffled her thanks to the driver, wheeled her luggage to the train station, and changed her ticket to the next available train.
Su Yao arrived at the company and sat down in her office, Bai Zhi’s tear-streaked face lingering in her mind, plunging her spirits to rock bottom.
“Sigh.” Su Yao let out a deep sigh, forcing herself to focus and start working.
Ling Jixiao had said she wouldn’t be coming today due to personal matters, but unexpectedly, she appeared at the company.
Su Yao pressed the internal phone button. “Send over the XX project files.”
“Right away, CEO Ling.” Following the instruction, Su Yao prepared the documents and knocked on the CEO’s office door.
Ling Jixiao, wearing her gold-rimmed glasses, looked serious and focused, though a hint of irritation flickered in her eyes. Her slightly furrowed brow and pursed lips revealed that the CEO was clearly in a foul mood today.
As Su Yao entered with the files, Ling Jixiao abruptly stood up, covering her mouth and nose and keeping a safe distance from her. Her eyes widened as she scrutinized Su Yao.
Su Yao froze, bewildered. She glanced down at her clothes, but couldn’t detect any unusual odor.
Ling Jixiao looked Su Yao up and down, her voice muffled by the hand covering her mouth and nose. “Why do you smell so strongly of Omega pheromones?” It was the floral scent she hated the most.
Su Yao finally realized why she’d been feeling so fragrant. She quickly bowed her head and apologized, “I’m sorry, CEO Ling. I’ll go change my clothes right away.”
Ling Jixiao watched Su Yao hurry away, wondering what she’d been doing before coming to the office. To be so thoroughly saturated with the floral scent of Omega pheromones… could she have been intimate with an Omega?
After turning on the ventilation system, Ling Jixiao waited until the floral scent had almost completely dissipated before returning to her seat.
She looked at the documents on her desk and sighed.
She could have easily postponed this project until after the New Year, but with Qin Yue resenting her and refusing to see her, Ling Jixiao found herself idle and turning to work as a distraction.
But whenever she stopped, Ling Jixiao—both physically and emotionally—found herself missing Qin Yue.
Today was Minor New Year’s Eve, and also the annual gala for the Minghui Group. Employees from every department were performing their best to impress their bosses.
Ling Jixiao, however, was hiding in a corner, watching the lively crowd alone.
Qin Yue hadn’t come, which was expected, yet it still left Ling Jixiao feeling deeply disappointed.
In contrast to Ling Jixiao’s seclusion, Ling Jingxi was actively networking, trying to connect with senior executives and build relationships to pave the way for his future.
The executives, out of respect for Ling Jingxi as the Ling family heir, were eager to curry favor. They showered him with flattery, making him feel like he was floating on clouds.
Meanwhile, Qin Yue was staring blankly at the invitation.
Today was Ling Jixiao’s company gala, and she hadn’t gone even though Ling Jixiao had invited her. She wondered if Ling Jixiao would be angry.
Qin Yue took a deep breath, reassuring herself that Ling Jixiao probably wouldn’t care. He was so strong; why would he let something so trivial bother him? He might have even forgotten about it.
She slumped over the table, burying her face in her arms.
Grandma Yang’s words echoed in her mind, reminding her to always speak her mind face-to-face and avoid lifelong regrets.
But the way Ling Jixiao had treated her… she was furious. It was as if Ling Jixiao saw her as a toy, watching her with amusement as she struggled to understand who had done this to her, watching her confusion.
Qin Yue couldn’t accept that Ling Jixiao would treat her like this.
She had planned to spend the evening holed up in her room, but today was Minor New Year’s Eve. The seniors at the sanatorium called her out of her room to celebrate together by making dumplings.
As Qin Yue was being dragged into the festivities, she suddenly noticed Ling Jixiao had appeared at the sanatorium.
Ling Jixiao had only intended to check on Qin Yue. She had drunk too much at the New Year’s party, and the alcohol had amplified her longing. Unable to resist, she had her driver pull up beside Xixing Sanatorium.
Grandma Yang happened to be out throwing away trash when she saw Ling Jixiao standing alone under the streetlight. She took Ling Jixiao by the hand and led her into the sanatorium.
“This is Xiao Ling, Yue’s friend!” Grandma Yang introduced her.
Ling Jixiao quickly blended in with the group of elderly residents, but her gaze kept returning to Qin Yue until Qin Yue finally looked at her.
“I just…” Ling Jixiao scratched her cheek awkwardly. “I just happened to be passing by.”
Qin Yue didn’t believe Ling Jixiao’s excuse, but she didn’t object to her presence either.
A faint minty scent lingered in the air. Qin Yue had once thought it might be Ling Jixiao’s laundry detergent or perfume, but now she realized how silly that was.
“Qin Yue, Happy Little New Year,” Ling Jixiao’s cool voice was gradually drowned out by the noisy chatter.
Qin Yue heard Ling Jixiao’s greeting but didn’t respond, pretending not to have heard it. Yet a small spark of joy, a sweet feeling, flickered in her heart.
Because Xixing Sanatorium had recently received funding from Minghui Group at the end of the year, Ling Jixiao, as a senior executive of the group, was given the sanatorium’s highest hospitality. Many residents were particularly enthusiastic about welcoming her.
It happened to be the Little New Year, and some elderly friends of Director Qin, along with their families, came to visit. Among them were Alphas, Betas, and Omegas around Qin Yue’s age, who were acquainted with her through their parents. The elders gathered them around the table to help make dumplings while chatting.
Two Alphas seemed particularly interested in Qin Yue and kept trying to strike up conversations with her as they worked.
Ling Jixiao frowned, struggling to restrain herself. She fought to suppress her past impulses, but seeing others eyeing Qin Yue with intent, and Qin Yue smiling warmly at them, sent a uncontrollable flare of jealousy burning through her.
The alcohol amplified her emotions, making it harder than usual to maintain her usual calm facade. She gritted her teeth, her mind churning with irritation. The turmoil made her restless, drawing her deeper into the abyss of jealousy.
Qin Yue is mine! She can only be mine!
Ling Jixiao raged inwardly.
Her expression turned icy, her gaze heavy. The temperature around her seemed to drop, sending shivers through the others at the table, who wondered if the heating had broken down.
Qin Yue was chatting with others, but her gaze kept drifting toward Ling Jixiao.
Ling Jixiao seemed to have lost weight these past few days.
No, no, none of this is my business!
Qin Yue forcefully pushed aside her urge to worry about Ling Jixiao, but she continued to steal glances at her out of the corner of her eye.
Then she noticed that whenever she spoke to someone, especially an Alpha, Ling Jixiao would furrow her brow deeply, her entire body tensing as she stared at Qin Yue with anxious eyes, like a large dog afraid of losing its favorite toy.
But when Qin Yue spoke to the sanatorium’s elderly residents or focused on her tasks instead of chatting, Ling Jixiao would relax, even a faint smile appearing at the corners of her lips.
So Qin Yue deliberately struck up a conversation with an Alpha beside her. As expected, Ling Jixiao’s expression fell. But when Qin Yue stopped talking, Ling Jixiao’s face lit up again.
She’s… kind of cute.
Qin Yue wanted to laugh.
After lunch, everyone chatted while a few elderly residents sang and danced. Grandma Yang, dressed beautifully, was the most dazzling Grandma at the sanatorium. She took Grandma Hai by the hand and danced with her, her smile radiant.
Qin Yue cheered and clapped from the sidelines. Then an Alpha beside her approached and asked if she’d like to take a stroll outside.
Qin Yue thought, This is Grandma’s friend’s grandson. I should be a good host here. She nodded in agreement.
Ling Jixiao’s gaze remained fixed on Qin Yue. When she saw Qin Yue leave with the Alpha, her hands clenched the hem of her shirt tightly.
She quietly stood up, crouched low, and stealthily followed Qin Yue.
The Alpha’s surname was Lu. Xiao Lu, fresh out of university, worked at a small company. He was of average height and had an unassuming appearance. He claimed the room was crowded and he needed fresh air, and since he was unfamiliar with the surroundings, he asked Qin Yue to show him around.
Qin Yue didn’t think much of it, simply agreeing out of hospitality.
As soon as she stepped into the small garden, she sensed someone following her. She casually glanced back and saw a figure hastily hiding behind the door, but the corner of an expensive suit jacket was still visible.
Qin Yue was speechless. She’d never seen this side of him before—clumsy, almost endearingly so.
Xiao Lu looked at Qin Yue, who had suddenly stopped, then followed her gaze back toward the room. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Qin Yue’s eyes curved into a smile. She clasped her hands behind her back and turned to continue walking toward the garden. “Let’s go. The garden’s right ahead. It’s small, but it’s Grandpa and Grandma’s favorite spot.”
The two of them walked to a bench in the small garden and sat down. Xiao Lu, a little nervous, wiped the sweat from his palms on his clothes. “Qin Yue… what do you think… what do you think of me?”
“Hmm?” Qin Yue discreetly glanced at the person tailing them. The stalker’s gaze was sharp and hard to miss.
How stupid. If you’re hiding, at least keep your eyes down!
Qin Yue didn’t hear Xiao Lu’s question clearly and replied absently, “You’re fine.”
Xiao Lu brightened. “Then… then do you want to try?”
Qin Yue noticed Ling Jixiao’s gaze sharpening, like razor-sharp blades slicing through the air toward them.
Hearing Xiao Lu’s question clearly now, she quickly rejected him. “Sorry, I already have someone I like.”
A little dejected, Xiao Lu said, “Oh, sorry to bother. I’ll… I’ll go see if I can help with anything over there.” He quickly excused himself and left.
Qin Yue sat on the bench, quietly gazing at the moon.
Though not yet full, the moon shone brightly, unobstructed by clouds, casting a silvery glow over everything.
Ling Jixiao hesitated, then finally emerged.
“Done eavesdropping and ready to show yourself?” Qin Yue couldn’t resist taunting.
“Mm,” Ling Jixiao nodded, standing beside Qin Yue, slightly blocking the moonlight, her voice tinged with a hint of hurt.
With the light behind her, Qin Yue couldn’t clearly see Ling Jixiao’s expression, but she caught a faint whiff of alcohol.
Now Qin Yue understood Ling Jixiao’s clumsy behavior tonight. Of course, she thought, how else could such a strong and capable person act so foolishly? She must have been drinking.
Before Qin Yue could speak, Ling Jixiao’s voice, trembling with hurt, reached her ear: “Who have you fallen for?”
