- Chapter 19 - Sleeping Beauty
Xie Xia said, “You all know that the two exchange students who are coming are the number one and number two students from Tsinghua University, the crème de la crème. Since the treasures of another school are coming as guests to ours, shouldn’t we spoil and pamper them?”
Dai Qin took the lead and shouted, “Yes.”
“So,” Xie Xia paved the way for a long time before finally getting to the main point, “our school has decided to throw a welcome party for the two distinguished exchange students. Of course, I know some of you have already privately attended smaller welcome parties, but those were just minor affairs and not everyone participated. This time, we are throwing a big one where the whole school joins in.”
“Yay.”
The classroom erupted in excitement, though a few discordant murmurs still remained.
“Damn it, anyone would think two ancestors were arriving. Why keep fawning over them and throwing a welcome party? It’s just wasting my study time.”
Dai Qin laughed again, “You didn’t look like you were studying that hard anyway. How about this, monitor? We’ll go to the welcome party, and you can stay in the classroom and study instead. Since you love studying so much, let’s satisfy you.”
“Dai Qin, did you eat dynamite today? What relation do those two exchange students have to you that you’re defending them so much?”
Wen Yuluo slammed his desk and glared furiously at the person who spoke, “Guests are guests. Doesn’t our school also have a senior student exchanged to Tsinghua? Doesn’t Tsinghua spoil and pamper the exchange student from Yanda too? If you’re envious, you might as well study hard and rank first so that your name is on the list of exchange students by your senior year, letting the people at Tsinghua fawn over you instead of whispering like rats in a sewer and chattering away to everyone’s annoyance.”
“Hahahahahahaha.”
Dai Qin laughed so hard his stomach hurt, grabbing Wen Yuluo’s arm and shaking it back and forth. “Yuluo, you really know how to make someone’s defense crumble.”
“Damn it, monitor, are you not going to discipline Wen Yuluo? Just a beta, acting like he’s on top of the world.”
Xie Xia swept a sharp gaze across the room. “Was he wrong? If you chirp again, you don’t have to listen anymore, get out.”
Feeling Xie Xia’s anger, the classroom finally quieted down.
Xie Xia: “I went to a meeting, and the school wants every class to put on a program to perform at the welcome gala, but our class is a bit special.”
Someone asked, “How special?”
Xie Xia made a fist and placed it against his mouth. “Our class has to perform a stage play together with the two exchange students.”
“For real? Damn.”
Wen Yuluo’s heart leaped into his throat. Perform a stage play together with Qi You and Lu Baihai?
“That’s right,” Xie Xia continued. “It’s a requirement from the principal, and the play has already been decided.”
Dai Qin asked, “What play?”
Xie Xia looked reluctant to say it. “Sleeping Beauty.”
“Huh?”
“What?”
“Is that the Sleeping Beauty I’m thinking of?”
“Could it be that fairy tale where the prince kisses the princess and the princess wakes up?”
Wen Yuluo forced a dry laugh. “The principal’s aesthetic and preferences remain as indescribable as ever.”
Xie Xia pressed his lips together to hide a smile. “Anyway, I’m the director, so I don’t have to play a role. Leaving aside the prince and the king, those two roles have been taken by the exchange students. The remaining roles will be decided at a casting session we’ll hold the day after tomorrow. Everyone in the class must participate, so don’t even think about slacking off.”
“What what? Qi You is playing the prince?”
Xie Xia explained, “It wasn’t explicitly stated that Qi You is playing the prince, but he’s either going to play the prince or the king. Anyone in our class who wants close-up interaction with Senior Qi should enthusiastically sign up for casting. Later on, I’ll post the remaining roles in the class chat. Alright, everyone take a break, and come to me if you don’t understand anything.”
“I have a question!” Dai Qin raised his hand high. “There are so many classes in our school, why is it only our class cooperating with the two seniors? Wouldn’t other classes be fighting tooth and nail for such a great opportunity?”
Xie Xia raised his right hand. “As our class representative, I drew this opportunity out using this very hand.”
“Ahhhhhhh! The monitor is too handsome!”
“Quickly let me touch that hand and rub off some of your good luck!”
Xie Xia smiled and helplessly stepped down from the podium.
Wen Yuluo was still dazed, his mind repeating Xie Xia’s words over and over.
Want close-up interaction with Senior Qi.
As he thought about it, Xie Xia walked right up to him. Wen Yuluo blinked and asked, “Monitor, can you hook me up with a backdoor pass?”
Xie Xia smiled gently. “Knowing you don’t want to act in the play, how about making you my assistant director?”
That didn’t sound appealing at all.
Wen Yuluo said, “I want to play a role.”
Xie Xia looked somewhat surprised. “You want to play a role? What role? A soldier or cannon fodder? Not a single role in there suits you.”
“Yeah, Yuluo,” Dai Qin chimed in. “I looked at the script. Only the witch and the princess have major parts, and they’re both female roles. As a guy, I’m not going to join in on that fun. Monitor, put me in the props group.”
Xie Xia readily agreed.
He could only temporarily accept this arrangement as assistant director.
Having dinner with Zilan that evening and chatting about this matter, Zilan laughed so hard she couldn’t straighten up.
“Talk about Sleeping Beauty! I thought the story was ridiculous when I heard it in kindergarten, and now your principal is actually making your class perform it on a university campus? Hahahahahahaha. Good thing our class is doing a chorus.”
Wen Yuluo speechless, “The main point isn’t Sleeping Beauty.”
“I know, I know,” Zilan said. “The main point is that Qi You is going to be in it, right?”
Wen Yuluo: “Yes, but there are no suitable roles for me. Even though being the assistant director means I can keep watching him, I won’t have any chance to get close to him.”
Zilan’s little brain was spinning when her phone suddenly chimed with a BBS push notification. She read it aloud loudly: “Qi You playing the prince! Live photos of costume fittings, available now!”
Wen Yuluo hurriedly snatched the phone away.
Original Poster: Ran into Senior Qi from our school today at my aunt’s costume and props shop. He is way too handsome! Such a small face, oh my god, he doesn’t look like a mortal. He’s trying on the prince’s outfit, looks like it’s for a stage play.

Attached below were three surveillance screenshots showing Qi You trying on the costume.
Wen Yuluo muttered softly, “Qi You is actually playing the prince.”
Zilan originally wanted to say what was so surprising about that, but she suddenly paused. “Does the prince have a kiss scene?”
Wen Yuluo grew extremely anxious. “They wouldn’t actually kiss, right?”
“Even if they don’t really kiss, they use camera angles.” Zilan looked quite experienced. “Do you know what camera angles mean? It means kissing the lower lip or the corner of the mouth, making the audience think it’s a real kiss anyway!”
“Then what should I do?”
Wen Yuluo’s eyes were shining brightly, almost looking as though he were about to cry. “I’m the assistant director! Watching him kiss someone else right from under the stage? Oh god, I’m going to go crazy.”
“Don’t panic, Yubao,” Zilan said with a flash of inspiration. “Why don’t you just go play Sleeping Beauty?”
