- Chapter 39 - I Only Like You
When she opened her eyes, she realized she’d somehow become a middle schooler.
She saw Yan Huainan and Xu Chenghuan taking her and Yan Zhi to what looked like an elegant, old-fashioned mansion.
At the entrance, a female Alpha and a female Omega came out to greet them.
The Alpha’s features were cool and aloof, while the Omega’s were gentle and soft. No matter how she looked at them, Yan Run thought they were both stunning—so beautiful they seemed like a married couple. And if they were indeed married, then surely their children must also be extraordinarily good-looking.
The Omega called upstairs, “Xixi!”
A moment later, a girl in a white dress appeared. She was just a little taller than Yan Run, her long black hair cascading down her back to frame a flawless, icy profile. Her eyes were classic peach blossoms—bright yet tinged with a hint of softness. She didn’t smile, yet her whole presence radiated an untouchable grace.
Yan Run was utterly transfixed.
She was only just about to start high school herself, yet why was this girl so breathtaking? Like a fairy descended from the heavens.
So the people on TV had been right—there really were goddesses in this world.
Yan Run couldn’t help blurting out, “Such a beautiful big sister!”
Everyone froze and turned to look at the youngest in the group.
Even the cool little fairy turned her head.
But the “fairy” only arched her brow slightly, looking faintly displeased, before heading to the living room to watch TV on her own.
Yu Qingyue chuckled. “Your second daughter hasn’t differentiated yet, has she?”
Xu Chenghuan smiled. “She hasn’t even started high school yet—how could she have differentiated already?”
Luo Wenting added, “Our Xixi differentiated early. She just became an Omega.”
“Omega?” Little Yan Run’s mind sprouted a giant question mark.
If that beautiful big sister was an Omega… then wouldn’t she have to differentiate into an Alpha in order to…
Yan Run patted her own shoulder and declared, “Then I’ll be an Alpha!”
The adults burst into laughter. Yan Zhi patted her shoulder and teased, “Silly girl, what you want to become isn’t up to you.”
Yan Run let out a resigned “Oh…” but her eyes drifted instinctively toward Yu Wenxi, still watching TV. A moment later, Yu Wenxi seemed to grow bored and picked up a magazine instead, her serene profile etching itself into Yan Run’s memory for life.
Was she… falling for this sister? And if she liked her, then she had to be an Alpha—obviously.

Two years later, Yan Run entered her differentiation stage.
Her whole body burned like fire, the pain so intense she could barely stand it, and her family rushed her to the best hospital they could find.
Though differentiation wouldn’t kill her, the process was agonizing.
Thankfully, she made it through safely.
Afterward, though, she felt strangely weak—too weak, perhaps, to be an Alpha. Alphas were usually much stronger than Betas or Omegas. She asked her older sister, who was taking care of her:
“Am I… an Omega?”
Yan Zhi, munching on an apple, said lightly, “Even if you are, it’s fine.”
Poor Yan Run took her words seriously. On the verge of adulthood, she actually started crying in front of her sister, startling Yan Zhi into thinking she was crying from pain.
“What’s wrong now?” Yan Zhi asked in alarm, calling the doctor over.
When the doctor arrived, they were greeted by the sight of a nearly 1.8-meter-tall girl thrashing on the hospital bed like a little kid throwing a tantrum. Both froze, unsure what on earth had gotten into her.
“What happened here?” the doctor asked wide-eyed.
Yan Zhi shrugged. “No idea. She woke up like this.”
“I’m not an Alpha, I’m not an Alpha, I’m not an Alpha…!” Yan Run kept repeating miserably, as if she’d lost the will to live.
The doctor sighed—this was just differentiation, so how had she gone completely daft over it? Assuming she was dissatisfied with her gender, the doctor tried to comfort her: “Second Miss, don’t worry. If you’re unhappy with your secondary gender, you can always change it.”
“Change it?” Yan Run’s tears stopped instantly, her eyes lighting up as though she’d just heard the most wonderful idea in the world.
Yan Zhi frowned and clapped the doctor on the shoulder. “What nonsense are you spouting? Don’t go filling my sister’s head with this rubbish.”
“I want to change!” Yan Run blurted out. If she became an Alpha, then maybe Yu Wenxi would like her back.
The doctor glanced at Yan Zhi’s grim face and fell silent. Yan Run pressed on: “I want to change! I want to be an Alpha. Name your price—I’ll pay it!”
“Alpha?” Both of them were stunned. So that was what this was about—she wanted to be an Alpha.
Yan Zhi burst out laughing. “How is it you get dumber the older you get?”
Even the doctor couldn’t hold back a chuckle. “Second Miss, you are an Alpha.”
Yan Run blinked, pointing at herself. “I am?”
The doctor nodded and handed her the differentiation report—black-and-white proof: Secondary Gender: Alpha.
Yan Run clutched the paper to her chest like a priceless treasure, grinning foolishly. Yan Zhi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Was her sister truly this obsessed with being an Alpha?

That night, the family held a celebration for her differentiation.
“Runrun’s an Alpha now. You can marry an Omega someday,” her parents said.
“No.”
Yan Run shook her head. In front of everyone, she declared, “I’m going to marry her, and we’ll live in our own home.”
A quiet life with Yu Wenxi—that would be enough.
Later that night, lying in bed, she felt more at peace than she had in years. She wondered what Yu Wenxi was doing right now.
If they met again someday, would it still be love at first sight?
She was nervous—what if Yu Wenxi already liked someone else?
The thought kept her awake until morning.
The problem was, she didn’t even have a way to contact Yu Wenxi. How could she learn anything about her?
One day at the dinner table, she casually brought up the Yu family. “Dad, didn’t we used to have gatherings with the Yu family?”
Yan Huainan, peering over his reading glasses, grunted. “You mean that dinner three years ago? The Yan and Yu families had a business collaboration, so both sides brought their families along to a meal to show goodwill.”
As he said this, a thought struck him. Though both families were powerful in A City, new rising stars were always waiting to replace them. If they didn’t want to lose ground to rivals, the safest way to secure an alliance was through marriage.
His gaze slid toward Yan Zhi.
“Oh? So… when will we meet with them again?” Yan Run asked, feigning casual interest and praying her parents wouldn’t guess she just wanted to see Yu Wenxi.
Fortunately, no one seemed suspicious. Yan Huainan chuckled. “Who knows? But I imagine there’ll be more dinners in the future.”
Yan Run pressed her lips together. She wanted to ask more, but didn’t know how.
That night, fresh from her shower, she passed by Yan Huainan’s study and overheard him saying to Yan Zhi: “I gave you Miss Yu’s WeChat—have you messaged her yet?”
Yan Zhi sounded bored. “I’m not interested, and she’s not interested in me. Don’t try to push this marriage onto me.”
“For the sake of the Yan family, you should make more of an effort, instead of clinging to your ‘playgirl’ reputation,” Yan Huainan said sharply.
Yan Zhi scoffed. “Yu Wenxi’s all cold and frosty—that’s not my type.”
“You’re so stubborn. You’re the only one who could match her for a marriage alliance. You’re three years older than Miss Yu—Run’er’s still a kid. She’d never be interested in her.”
Hearing that, Yan Run’s heart twisted with a sudden panic.
Why wouldn’t she be good enough for Yu Wenxi? She’d done everything—endured everything—just to be an Alpha.
The next second, Yan Run kicked the door open in a fury, shouting,
“Who says she doesn’t think I’m good enough? Only I am worthy of Yu Wenxi! I’m going to marry her!”
Father and daughter froze, both looking at the youngest girl.
Yan Huainan narrowed his eyes. “What did you just say?”
Casting aside the refinement and composure her mother had always taught her, Yan Run declared with unrestrained fervor,
“I like Yu Wenxi. I’m going to marry her!”
Yan Huainan was stunned. They had only met once—how could she suddenly be in love?
His gaze shifted to the indifferent Yan Zhi. If Yu Wenxi were to marry Yan Zhi and ended up being neglected, it wouldn’t look good, especially if Yu Qingyue heard about it. But if Yan Run truly liked Yu Wenxi, then things would be much easier.
A few days later, Yan Huainan used the excuse of catching up with an old friend to invite Yu Qingyue to dinner. Their conversation drifted to the marriages of various young ladies and the rising power of certain large corporations.
“Guize Group is really at the height of its influence these days…” Yan Huainan remarked casually, as if sighing. “City A has always been prosperous. Who knows how many more entrepreneurs will spring up here?”
Yu Qingyue’s bright eyes dimmed slightly, as if she had caught his meaning.
That night, Yu Wenxi received a friend request from Yan Run.
Yu Wenxi still thought of her as that middle schooler two years her junior and didn’t initiate a conversation. Yan Run, thrilled but unsure how to start, ended up saying nothing either.
And so, days passed in silence.
When Xu Chenghuan asked about it, she discovered that her daughter hadn’t spoken a single word to Yu Wenxi.
She sighed—her daughter was a block of wood. Yan Zhi had already had her first girlfriend in high school, while the second daughter, even after differentiating, still couldn’t hold a basic conversation. How could the two sisters be so different?
She coached Yan Run to take the initiative. Yan Run listened and sent a few friendly greetings, but Yu Wenxi only replied politely, and the conversation quickly fizzled out.
Both girls were still young, so their families weren’t in a rush.
It wasn’t until Yan Run went to university that they truly began to interact.
When Yu Wenxi’s dance partner suddenly couldn’t make it, she casually posted on her Moments, lamenting that “nobody wants me.” She was ready to skip the event altogether.
That was Yan Run’s chance to volunteer herself.
Seeing that it was someone she knew, Yu Wenxi agreed.
But when Yu Wenxi appeared in a snow-white gown, Yan Run liked her even more.
She even felt a stab of jealousy toward Meng Qieyi, the dance partner who was supposed to have been there. She regretted all those times she had stayed shy and passive instead of speaking to Yu Wenxi directly, despite her many small acts of care.
Instead, she spent her time quietly checking Yu Wenxi’s Moments to see if she was dating anyone, admiring countless photos of her late into the night.
Eventually, jealousy drove her to confess—only to be met with Yu Wenxi’s skepticism.
“We’ve only met a few times, and you already like me? Your love sounds pretty cheap.”
Yu Wenxi wasn’t entirely wrong, but Yan Run didn’t believe she was wrong either. After all, love could be instant—or it could last a lifetime.
She resolved to work twice as hard to make Yu Wenxi see her worth.
But not long after, Yan Run heard from Yu Wenxi’s classmate that she was dating Meng Qieyi. Unable to believe it, Yan Run asked her directly, got confirmation, and returned home to lock herself in her room.
Yan Zhi and Xu Chenghuan were terrified—she didn’t come out for two days. Finally, Yan Zhi couldn’t stand it anymore and kicked the door open, only to find Yan Run sitting at her desk, writing over and over: I only like you.
She didn’t give up, though. Later, she learned from others that Yu Wenxi didn’t actually like Meng Qieyi—that they’d been together for a month without even holding hands. Yan Run was certain they weren’t truly a couple. Yu Wenxi’s feelings for Meng Qieyi were obviously nonexistent—hahaha, I knew it.
When Yu Wenxi and Meng Qieyi eventually broke up, Yu Wenxi entered the entertainment industry. Her beauty, coupled with the success of the dramas she starred in, quickly made her a rising star. Of course, Yan
Run subtly fanned the flames of public opinion—after all, her family excelled at marketing.
But Yu Wenxi never knew there was someone silently protecting her from behind the scenes.
After that, Yan Run began loitering near the Yu residence, pretending to be just another fan. The butler chased her away daily—until one day, when He Yunzhi, who was recovering from illness, happened to see her.
Feigning innocence, Yan Run let slip that she was the second daughter of the Yan family.
Knowing the close ties between the Yan and Yu families—and that a marriage alliance was possible—He Yunzhi naturally treated her well and invited her inside.
With her eloquence, Yan Run quickly won over both elders, becoming their close companion. This gave her a legitimate reason to visit the Yu household often and spend time chatting with them—while also getting the chance to be near Yu Wenxi during her breaks.
Yu Wenxi had initially thought being with Yan Run was just playing around with a cute little Alpha, but before she knew it, she had fallen into the younger girl’s trap.
The little Alpha knew her temperament inside out, catering to her every whim until the usually lazy Omega found herself genuinely touched—and slowly, she began to return those feelings.
When her mother brought up the idea of a marriage alliance, she agreed without hesitation.
“Jie-jie…”
One night, after showering, the Alpha lay sprawled on the Omega, breathing in the scent of jasmine tea from her skin.
“I really love your scent.” Yan Run murmured.
Yu Wenxi ruffled her hair and sighed softly. “Silly girl… you act so naive, but growing up in a wealthy family, you’re anything but.”
Yan Run blinked, puzzled. “What do you mean, Jie-jie?”
Yu Wenxi kissed her, tilting her chin up. “The truth is, you’re steady and even a little dull—but in front of me, you pretend to be cute, pitiful, even amusing. I like it when you act pitiful.”
Yan Run recalled the time she’d fallen while picking loquats for Yu Wenxi. She had recovered in a day, but stayed in bed for much longer—perhaps Yu Wenxi had seen through it even then.
Yet Yu Wenxi hadn’t exposed her, instead finding it amusing and “feeding” her with attention, clearly enjoying having a cute little Alpha clinging to her.
Compared to the stiff Meng Qieyi, Yan Run was far more entertaining when she played the part of the pitiful one.
What Yu Wenxi hadn’t expected was that she would end up truly falling for her.
Yan Run took Yu Wenxi’s fingers and lightly licked them with the tip of her tongue. “Looks like Jie-jie enjoys it too.”
Yu Wenxi’s eyes glimmered. “If I still didn’t like you, what would you do?”
Without hesitation, Yan Run replied, “I’d make you love me.”
“Force you to love me?” Yu Wenxi chuckled. This Alpha really was too childish in front of her—but she found it irresistibly adorable.
Yan Run suddenly pushed Yu Wenxi down, covering her entirely. Lowering her head, she nibbled lightly at her neck—never hard enough to hurt, but enough to tickle—drawing a soft whimper from Yu Wenxi.
“Jie-jie,” Yan Run murmured, “for you, I really could lose my mind. I feel like I could do anything… because I love you.”
Because I love you…
In her sleep, a single tear slid from the corner of Yan Run’s eye.
Her fingers twitched faintly.
“She’s awake!”
A voice rang out in delight, and everyone hurried over to see how their daughter was doing.
When Yan Run opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was her family. Behind them, standing frozen in place, was that familiar cool figure. Yan Run lifted a finger, pointing straight at her…
