- Chapter 38 - How Much Yan Run Once Loved Yu Wenxi
The next day, Yu Wenxi attended an awards ceremony. Yan Run personally went to wait for her in the dressing room, but on the way, she unexpectedly ran into Ji Zhiye, who was also waiting for Wei Qin.
The two exchanged smiles, as if they had forgotten their earlier sharp-tongued clash in the dressing room.
Standing by the rooftop railing, Yan Run asked, “A lot of people online say you’re like a lovesick puppy chasing after her. Doesn’t that bother you?”
“Of course it does.” Ji Zhiye lowered her gaze to the dust at her feet. “But what can I do? I really do like her.”
Yan Run thought about it—aside from being beautiful and well-built, Wei Qin’s temper was terrible. What was there to like?
“When we went to Lan City, we ran into my parents.” Ji Zhiye said.
“Oh?”
“My father doesn’t want me to be with a female celebrity from the entertainment industry,” Ji Zhiye said, pressing her lips together. “But that was the first time I ever talked back to him. I told him I had to be with her. Somehow she overheard it. Maybe she was moved by that—maybe that’s why she slowly started liking me.”
“And what did your parents say?” Yan Run asked.
“They still won’t agree. But so what? No one can change my mind.” Ji Zhiye answered.
Yan Run chuckled and patted Ji Zhiye on the shoulder.
Ji Zhiye gave a wistful sigh. “After all, you’ve set the precedent. How could I back down?”
Yan Run froze, her smile stiffening. “What precedent? I’m just the prop you two use to flaunt your affection—and not even a very effective one.”
Ji Zhiye frowned at her. “You like Miss Yu so much, why be shy? Just keep kissing her in front of us. Kiss her until you’re satisfied.”
Yan Run gave a vague hum. Did she really come across as loving Yu Wenxi that much?
Though… maybe now, she truly did.
“There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you.” Ji Zhiye hesitated, clearly reluctant to bring it up.
“Go ahead.” Yan Run said.
“I’m really sorry, but… when you were drunk, I secretly recorded you. I wasn’t planning to ever mention it, but… seeing as you two seem to be on the outs right now, I thought you should let Miss Yu listen to it.
Once she hears it, she’ll definitely forgive you—no, she’ll be back to being as close as ever with you!” Ji Zhiye declared.
Yan Run frowned. “You do realize recording someone without their consent is illegal?”
Ji Zhiye blinked innocently. “But you were speaking so passionately. I only recorded it so I could use it for… practice. Romantic lines, you know.”
Romantic lines?
Yan Run took the recorder but didn’t give it to Yu Wenxi right away. She was curious—what exactly had she said? So after parting with Ji Zhiye, she found a quiet, secluded spot and played it back.
The recording began with Ji Zhiye’s voice.
Ji Zhiye: “Second Miss, when did you first meet Miss Yu?”
Yan Run: “Of course I remember. I first met her when she was fifteen.”
Her own voice was slurred—clearly, she had been drunk.
Ji Zhiye: “So you’re childhood sweethearts?”
Yan Run: “No, we never played together. But the first time I saw her, I liked her.”
Ji Zhiye (surprised): “You liked her when you were that young?”
Yan Run (laughing softly, unconcerned): “You don’t understand. Liking someone can happen in an instant. And that instant can last a lifetime. Just one meeting, and I could never forget her.”
Yan Run’s heart gave a tremor. So she really had fallen for Yu Wenxi that early? Even she found it hard to believe, and yet her drunken words carried such depth of feeling.
Ji Zhiye: “You’re impressive. Does Miss Yu like you back?”
Yan Run (with a self-satisfied chuckle): “I’ll make her like me. I’ll chase her my whole life. Unless she already has someone she loves, my life will always be hers. I’ll protect her forever.”
Yan Run: “My feelings for her have never wavered—not from start to finish. Even if being with me is just amusement for her, I’ll still accept it willingly.”
Ji Zhiye: “You’re even more of a simp than I am.”
Yan Run: “Is liking someone the same as groveling?”
Ji Zhiye: “Well…”
Yan Run: “If you like someone but don’t pursue them, don’t fight for them, then what’s the point of liking them?”
Yan Run: “When I like her, I want her to be happy. I can smile for a long time just looking at her photos. I hope her dramas get top ratings. I hope everyone protects, cherishes, and loves her. And I hope I can be with her. That’s what my liking means…”
Yan Run: “I like her, and it has nothing to do with desire—it’s about protecting her from the heart. If anyone bullies her, I’ll fight them. No one can bully her. Not even me…”
Yan Run let out a silly laugh. Even drunk, her voice carried a sobering clarity, as if she had repeated these words to herself countless times. She loved her—without ulterior motives—only wishing her beloved eternal happiness. That was enough.
Yan Run switched off the recorder. It really was worthy of being called a romantic confession. She had lost her memories, yet even drunk she could still speak with the same sincerity she’d had before.
It was clear now—Yan Run had once loved Yu Wenxi deeply.
Everything she hadn’t said out loud, she had locked away in her heart—even from herself.
She held the recorder tightly, slipped it into her pocket.
She didn’t intend to give it to Yu Wenxi.
The person she was now had long since lost her original starting point, but she hoped… maybe, like before, she could learn to love Yu Wenxi again.
By the time the event ended, it was late at night.
Yu Wenxi was looking a little tired, so she got into Yan Run’s car.
Yan Run draped her own jacket over Yu Wenxi’s shoulders.
Yu Wenxi was on the verge of falling asleep, her head resting against Yan Run’s shoulder, a faint snore escaping her lips.
Yan Run didn’t start the car—she just let her sleep. Sitting like this would make her neck ache, but Yan Run couldn’t bring herself to wake her.
Liu Zhaoli tapped on the car window, but Yan Run only gave a quiet “shh.”
Liu Zhaoli blinked, then, seeing Yu Wenxi asleep, tiptoed away.
Yan Run continued gazing at Yu Wenxi’s sleeping face.
[Why is Ergou looking at her with such tenderness?]
[Sss… this is true love—just look at the way she gazes at her.]
[So their cold war’s over? I thought it’d last a week, but nope—done already, hahaha.]
[Ahhh, my old auntie heart is melting.]
[I’m starting to think Ergou’s actually good-looking. Her and Xixi are a match in looks too.]
The barrage of comments that had once been full of suspicion, insults, and mockery suddenly turned into candy-sweet shipping, blessings, and congratulations.
In less than a month, Yan Run had already gotten used to being with her.
She didn’t know how much her past self had loved this Omega. But now… would she be able to love her with the same fire again?
She thought she probably would—otherwise, why would she have been so anxious, so afraid that Yu Wenxi might ignore her forever during their cold war?
“I fell asleep again,” Yu Wenxi murmured drowsily, opening her eyes.
“It’s fine. Keep sleeping,” Yan Run said gently. “You’re tired. You should rest.”
A faint light flickered in Yu Wenxi’s eyes. She hummed softly, her tone lilting in a way that stirred the imagination.
“Now I don’t feel sleepy anymore,” Yu Wenxi said unexpectedly, her voice carrying a hint of coquettishness as her cheeks slowly flushed pink.
Yan Run felt a ticklish warmth in her chest. She mustered her courage and wrapped an arm around Yu Wenxi’s shoulders, letting her naturally settle into her embrace.
[It’s such a normal couple thing, so why am I so excited watching this?]
[Are they going to kiss? Eeeek—]
Yan Run was rarely the one to take the initiative—Yu Wenxi knew that well—so her uncharacteristic behavior today came as a surprise.
Unfortunately, they were still on livestream, so Yan Run didn’t say much, especially regarding what had happened in the past few days.
“If you’re tired, just rest on me a little longer,” Yan Run murmured in a voice as soft as a comforter.
Yu Wenxi gave a quiet hum, catching the rain-washed orange scent on her, burying her face into Yan Run’s shirt and inhaling deeply with a hint of infatuation.
“You’re acting strange today. So proactive?” Yu Wenxi teased with a smile.
Yan Run smiled as well. She saw Yu Wenxi’s smile clearly—sweet yet elegant, unlike the smile she gave anyone else. It was the kind that imprinted itself on her memory, searing into her bones. No wonder the
Omega had once made her fall so deeply in love.
And even now.
“Just worried you might be tired,” Yan Run said, reaching out to take Yu Wenxi’s hand—and suddenly tightened her grip.
“Sleep well.”
The coquettish warmth and fiery passion of the past seemed to have faded. In their place was a remarkable steadiness. Though Yan Run had always been capable of calm composure, she’d once preferred to act spoiled in front of her. Now, she seemed reluctant to show such softness, radiating instead the maturity and protectiveness of an Alpha.
Yu Wenxi’s heart, however, was quietly delighted.
“A-Yan.”
For the first time, Yu Wenxi abandoned the familiar nicknames—Stinky Bao and Yan Yan—and called her simply A-Yan.
Instinctively, Yan Run answered with a soft “Mm.” But before she could lower her head, Yu Wenxi leaned forward and kissed her lips—a lingering, heartfelt kiss.
Yan Run didn’t push her away. She kissed back, melting into the Omega.
She might have been inexperienced, but she knew Yu Wenxi would guide her.
【They kissed!!】
【Why am I more excited than when I watch other people confess?】
【Real wives are still the most shippable.】
【Hope they’ll stay like this forever.】
【Don’t worry—Ergou’s a certified simp, she’d never give up on Xixi.】
【If only they had a kid…】

Xu Tangran had rented out an entire racetrack. The kind of cars here were designed for casual fun—no professional drivers needed.
Still, most Omegas thought it was too dangerous and wanted no part of it.
The Alphas, however, were itching to try—especially Yan Run.
Not far away, on the balcony of a small pavilion, an Alpha in sunglasses sipped her wine with the air of someone above worldly concerns. A faint smile curved her lips as she looked toward the group in the distance.
“Yan Run, you got lucky last time. This time, luck won’t save you.”
Ji Zhiye was the first to get in a car. After just a few laps, she was already in full control, even breaking the track’s record.
Applause erupted. Wei Qin only clapped lightly, feigning indifference, but inside she was brimming with pride. Her Alpha really was the best.
Yan Run felt a pang of envy.
Yu Wenxi, wearing a cap and sunglasses, was busy applying sunscreen when she said, “Go give it a try later. Just… be careful, okay?”
Given her wife’s blessing, Yan Run nodded with a bright smile. “I’ll make sure to beat Ji Zhiye’s record!”
Yu Wenxi chuckled. Alphas could be so competitive.
【Hahahaha, that’s so hilariously cocky.】
【Of course—no way she’d let herself lose face in front of her wife.】
A driverless car was brought over. Yan Run suited up in protective gear and a helmet before sliding into the seat. Staff members stepped forward to fasten her harness.
Xu Tangran approached with a grin. “Miss Yan, you’d better give it your all. Miss Yu seems eager to see you beat Miss Ji’s record.”
Yan Run’s confidence brimmed over. “Oh, I’ll break it for sure. I’m a top-tier Alpha—if I don’t, it’d be humiliating.”
Ji Zhiye removed her helmet and happened to pass by. She gave a surprised hum. “You care that much about appearances? I just came to have fun, not to get caught up in a competition.”
Yan Run ignored her. If Yu Wenxi wasn’t here, she would’ve just enjoyed herself too. But Ji Zhiye had put on such a show that everyone was cheering for her—how could she let herself lose?
With a sharp start, Yan Run pressed the clutch and took off.
At first she was still unfamiliar with the controls, but her learning curve was steep. With a clear track ahead, she sped along like the wind.
Before long, she crossed the finish line.
Ji Zhiye and Xu Tangran nodded approvingly. “Not bad… quite fast.”
Yan Run glanced over to see Yu Wenxi nibbling on a dessert. When their eyes met, Yu Wenxi gave her a thumbs-up.
Her wife’s encouragement instantly bolstered her confidence.
Yan Run flashed an OK sign as if to say: Just watch me.
She hit the clutch again, the car rumbling back to life, this time even faster than before. While it was still far from professional racing speed, she pushed a little harder.
For ordinary people, though, this was already approaching dangerous territory.
Yu Wenxi’s brows furrowed. She didn’t want her going any faster. She waited for Yan Run to stop so she could say something, but Yan Run didn’t slow down—instead, she went for another lap.
Intent on smashing Ji Zhiye’s record, Yan Run had no intention of stopping.
Yu Wenxi moved to the staff area, grabbed a walkie-talkie, and called out,
“Yan Run, stop! Now!”
The severity in her tone startled Yan Run.
She gave a quick “Okay,” because of course she’d listen to her wife. She’d already broken the record, so she eased the car to a halt.
But the brakes failed.
The vehicle shot forward at alarming speed, smoke spurting from the rear. Then—bang—a tire slammed into a grassy mound.
The impact struck Yan Run’s head hard. The last thing she heard was Yu Wenxi’s terrified scream before everything went black.
