After Mistaking My Stepsister’s First Love - Chapter 51
Leisure time always passes too quickly. After the lunch break, everyone went their separate ways, some to the library, others to the dance studio, all of them swamped with work.
The nerve-wracking week felt like an eternity. Several times when Ye Wenjin returned, she saw Chu Yunsheng staring blankly at the ceiling, her mind so overloaded with knowledge that she seemed almost dazed.
Ye Wenjin wasn’t much better. Every night, she returned to the dorm so exhausted that she fell asleep the moment her head hit the pillow.
The dreadful finals quietly slipped by in this tense atmosphere. By the time it was all over, even Ye Wenjin felt as though she had barely survived.
The final performance marked the end of the semester. The moment it concluded, Ye Wenjin felt the tension in her nerves suddenly release, leaving her whole body light and relaxed.
During the junior-year performances that followed, the audience had already lost interest. Ye Wenjin could sense the restless energy in the air.
The excitement of the impending break spread like wildfire. When the teacher announced the end of the performances, someone couldn’t help but cheer.
The venue buzzed with noise chatter, laughter, shouts but instead of finding it annoying, Ye Wenjin found herself infected by the excitement, her lips curling into an involuntary smile.
This was a strange and novel feeling for her. In the past, she had never looked forward to holidays.
For her, holidays had always meant either suffocating tension at home or lonely solitude at school.
But now, things were different. Someone was waiting for her to come home. In contrast, Ye Wenjin suddenly realized that her past life seemed to be fading, replaced by the vibrant colors of the present.
Without even noticing, she had gained an entirely new life.
For the first time, Ye Wenjin could finally be like any ordinary student eagerly anticipating a break, something she would never have dared imagine before. But now,
She simply felt incredibly lucky.
Most of her belongings had already been packed and taken home by Butler Wu days before the break, leaving just a backpack’s worth of things to carry.
Moreover, the four of them had already discussed their travel plans a few days earlier.
Originally, they had considered finding time during the break, but later decided it would be better to go right after finals and return home after the trip.
After some discussion, they settled on the day after the break began, giving them a day to rest and recharge before setting off. A few days of fun, then everyone could head home. It was the perfect arrangement for all of them.
Especially for Zhou Wuhuan, who wasn’t from the city. If she went home first, it would be troublesome to come back.
So the plan was for Zhou Wuhuan to go home with Chu Yunsheng first. As for luggage, if there was too much, she could ship some back; if not, even better, she could just take it along for the trip.
After the trip, she could return directly to her hometown since their final destination wasn’t far from her home.
Ye Wenjin couldn’t help but admire how thoughtful Butler Wu’s arrangements were.
After the final performance, most students either rushed back to their dorms to pack or dragged their suitcases toward the school gates. Only Ye Wenjin walked out with just a backpack, feeling completely unburdened.
But she barely noticed, her mind solely focused on going home.
Lately, with both of them so busy, she and Jian Mo had barely spent any time together, and even their daily chats had been scarce.
The moment she thought about seeing someone, Ye Wenjin couldn’t conceal the joy in her heart at all, her footsteps becoming incredibly light.
She had often heard people say that long-distance relationships were tough, but at the time, Ye Wenjin hadn’t felt much about it. Only now did she truly understand what that sentiment was like.
Even though she and Jian Mo weren’t in a long-distance relationship, she had deeply experienced that feeling, which was why she was now so eager to return home.
Throughout the journey, Ye Wenjin kept glancing out the window, feeling as though the road was endlessly long.
So much so that the moment she finally saw the person, her eyes could hold nothing else but Jian Mo.
“Sister, I’m back.”
Ye Wenjin suppressed the emotions swelling in her heart, but some unrestrained feelings still drove her to quicken her steps, rush forward, and embrace Jian Mo tightly, sighing contentedly.
“I missed you so much, sister.”
A flicker of surprise flashed in Jian Mo’s eyes, but she still raised her arms to return the hug. Listening to the coquettish words of longing whispered in her ear, Jian Mo couldn’t help but smile.
Ye Wenjin had acted entirely on instinct. Only after lingering for a while did she realize what she had done and quickly let go.
Just as she was about to explain her abruptness, she looked up and saw Butler Wu smiling at her. A quick glance around revealed several maids watching as well.
So, she had just, hugged her sister and acted spoiled in front of everyone?
In that instant, overwhelming social awkwardness engulfed Ye Wenjin. She fell abruptly silent, then hastily muttered something about going to her room to unpack before fleeing the scene.
Jian Mo turned her head a beat too late but still caught sight of Ye Wenjin’s bright red ears, which amused her.
Butler Wu remarked with emotion, “Miss Wenjin is truly lively,”
The maids exchanged glances, each unable to hide the laughter in their eyes.
With the return of its other resident, the atmosphere in the villa finally became harmonious and lively again.
Before Ye Wenjin had left, even Jian Mo wouldn’t return home until late at night. The maids had often found the place too quiet, the vast villa devoid of any liveliness.
But the moment Ye Wenjin came back, everyone felt the villa come alive once more. Even Miss Mo was smiling!
Truly, it had to be Miss Wenjin!
However, due to her recent social blunder, Ye Wenjin was now hiding in her room, too embarrassed to come out.
She dawdled through her shower, absentmindedly washed her dirty clothes, and even tidied up her room.
Only when there was nothing left to organize did Ye Wenjin finally calm down enough to prepare to go downstairs.
Fortunately, the maids showed no unusual expressions when they saw her, their faces as composed as ever. Ye Wenjin’s anxious heart finally settled.
During dinner, the two discussed their travel plans again.
After some thought, Ye Wenjin asked, “Sister, will this trip interfere with your work?”
Jian Mo’s expression remained unchanged. “I’ve already taken care of everything in advance. No need to worry.”
Ye Wenjin nodded, only then realizing that Jian Mo’s busy schedule at the company had been in preparation for their trip.
It wasn’t until now that it dawned on her while she had been struggling through finals, Jian Mo had been working hard at the company. Both of them had been preparing for this trip.
Now that finals were over and Jian Mo had mostly wrapped up her work, their vacation was finally on the horizon. Ye Wenjin couldn’t help but feel excited.
On the day of departure, the two woke up early. Their luggage had been prepared the night before, so after getting ready, they could set off immediately.
Their first stop was the seaside.
Ye Wenjin had never been to the sea before. Growing up inland, she had always yearned for the ocean, feeling that only by seeing it in person could she truly experience it.
The sea seen in movies or photographs was vastly different from the one she would personally encounter.
For this trip, Jian Mo covered almost all the expenses, and the group gathered at the airport.
Upon arrival, Ye Wenjin noticed that Rong Yunshu’s older sister, whom she had briefly met before, was also there.
The sister explained that she was traveling at her own expense and didn’t need to be accommodated, she had simply decided to join the trip on a whim, as traveling with a group was livelier.
Ye Wenjin glanced at Jian Mo, who didn’t object.
So the group grew by one, which worked out perfectly. The original number would have left someone odd out, but now it was just right.
When boarding the plane, Ye Wenjin realized everyone had seats in first class.
This realization left her feeling uneasy deep down.
Having never traveled far before, let alone flown first class, this was her first time on a plane, and she couldn’t help but feel out of place.
She wasn’t the only one who felt this way. Ye Wenjin noticed Zhou Wuhuan’s stiff expression and immediately felt a sense of camaraderie.
Zhou Wuhuan, too, had initially felt out of sync with her surroundings. But when she noticed Ye Wenjin’s nervousness, she relaxed a little.
Realizing she wasn’t the only one feeling this way, Zhou Wuhuan gradually calmed down, emptying her mind as she settled into her seat.
The plane soared swiftly through the high skies, leaving behind a trail of white contrails.
Peering through the window, Ye Wenjin caught sight of a fiery red sun slowly rising on the horizon.
They were gliding through the clouds, and with the clear weather, the sunrise painted the sky in breathtaking hues.
The view was so stunning that Ye Wenjin was lost in it for a long moment.
Only when the others also noticed the scene and began exclaiming in admiration did she snap out of it.
Belatedly, she thought to capture the moment with a photo, but she had missed the best angle, leaving her regretful.
Before her disappointment could deepen, Jian Mo handed her phone over. Ye Wenjin looked and saw the exact scene she had wanted to capture.
Except, she was in the frame too.
Yet it didn’t feel out of place instead, it looked perfectly harmonious.
Ye Wenjin’s eyes widened in disbelief as she examined the photo several times to confirm it was really her.
“It’s so well taken,”
Jian Mo smiled faintly. “It’s because Xiao Jin is beautiful.”
Caught off guard by the compliment, Ye Wenjin’s ears turned slightly red. “Thank you, Jiejie.”
Jian Mo pressed her lips together, amused by her shyness.
Ye Wenjin rubbed her ears, trying to compose herself, but Jian Mo’s gaze was too intense, making it impossible to calm down.
Jian Mo watched her reactions from the corner of her eye, her smile deepening.
Though Ye Wenjin had changed in many ways, some things couldn’t be altered overnight.
She still blushed easily, but Jian Mo didn’t mind in fact, she loved seeing Ye Wenjin flustered. Teasing her occasionally lifted her own mood.
The journey to their destination took some time. At first, Ye Wenjin could hear people chatting, but as time passed, the voices grew quieter until she, too, began to feel drowsy.
After all, the two of them had indulged in some late-night antics twice the previous evening, leaving them a little short on sleep.
Waking up too early in the morning left her feeling somewhat lethargic.
What truly exhausts people during travel is probably the time spent on transportation, no matter the mode, it’s equally draining.
Thus, Ye Wenjin quickly fell asleep. In that hazy state between sleep and wakefulness, she felt herself being shifted to a different position before settling onto something soft and cushiony.
The cushion even carried a familiar fragrance, making it impossible for Ye Wenjin to resist sinking deeper into sleep.
She had no idea how long she’d been out when her eyes suddenly snapped open, only to realize she had been using Jian Mo’s thigh as a pillow and the scent she’d noticed earlier was, unsurprisingly, the other woman’s pheromones.
Ye Wenjin smacked her lips, her expression briefly nostalgic, but then she seemed to remember something. Just as she was about to ask Jian Mo, she noticed the other woman was also asleep and immediately fell silent.
The surroundings remained quiet, with no one else awake. Ye Wenjin simply stared at Jian Mo, zoning out.
“Enjoying the view?”
Ye Wenjin nodded reflexively. “Very much, Huh? Sister, when did you wake up?”
Jian Mo looked at her with a meaningful gaze and murmured, “Xiao Jin, can you tell me why your stare is so, pervy?”
Ye Wenjin: “!”
