After Mistaking My Stepsister’s First Love - Chapter 50
Longing surged forth uncontrollably, and Ye Wenjin couldn’t resist leaning closer to Jian Mo.
The distance between them suddenly narrowed, their breaths intertwining.
Jian Mo didn’t pull away. Instead, she looked at Ye Wenjin leisurely, blinking slowly.
Ye Wenjin swallowed unconsciously and asked softly, “Sister, can I kiss you?”
Jian Mo suddenly smiled at her but didn’t answer.
Ye Wenjin waited eagerly, then, realizing something from her expression, decisively pressed her lips against Jian Mo’s.
But the kiss was light, lasting only two seconds before Ye Wenjin obediently withdrew. True to her word, it was just one kiss.
Jian Mo raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised.
Ye Wenjin wanted to get closer, to kiss her more deeply, but the timing wasn’t right. So she dared only this brief touch, not venturing further despite the temptation.
Yet, the light kiss was like quenching thirst with poison only intensifying the burning desire in her heart. It took immense effort for Ye Wenjin to suppress it.
When she spoke again, her voice was slightly hoarse.
“Sister, why did you come here? Aunt Wu mentioned the company has been really busy lately.”
Jian Mo lightly licked her lips, delighting in the sound of Ye Wenjin’s sharp inhale. Her smile deepened as she replied slowly, “Xiao Jin, didn’t you want me to come?”
Ye Wenjin was utterly mesmerized by the motion of her lips, her gaze fixated on their rosy hue. It took her a long moment to process the words.
“Of course not! I’m really happy you came to see me!”
She hurriedly expressed her feelings, her eyes and expression brimming with sincerity.
Yet Jian Mo remained silent, simply watching her with an amused smile. Suddenly, Ye Wenjin realized, Jian Mo was teasing her.
Pausing, she couldn’t help but laugh.
“Then, have you had lunch yet, sister?”
Jian Mo’s smile faded slightly. She wanted to say yes, but under Ye Wenjin’s intense gaze, she shook her head.
Ye Wenjin’s eyes widened, all lingering romantic thoughts instantly vanishing.
She knew Jian Mo had been unusually busy lately, and Aunt Wu, worried she might skip meals, had been delivering lunch to her.
But today, since Jian Mo had arrived with Aunt Wu, Ye Wenjin suspected she hadn’t eaten and her guess was confirmed.
Noticing two lunch boxes placed side by side earlier, Ye Wenjin suggested, “Then, shall we eat together?”
Jian Mo had no objections.
So Ye Wenjin brought over the two lunch boxes, opening one and handing it to Jian Mo.
Her own portion was lighter and smaller, the difference between the two quite noticeable.
Jian Mo frowned slightly. “Why so little?”
She had always assumed Aunt Wu sent Ye Wenjin generous portions, but now she saw otherwise.
Ye Wenjin quickly explained, “The amount is actually just right. Too much would be hard to digest. After finals, I can indulge a little, but if my weight isn’t up to standard before reporting, I’ll still need to cut back.”
Recently, the demands of finals week had left her exhausted, making her appear even slimmer. But the portions Aunt Wu brought were perfectly suited to her needs.
Hearing this, Jian Mo’s frown didn’t ease, but she said nothing more. She understood for the sake of her beloved dance, Ye Wenjin embraced it all willingly.
Probably all those who truly love dance are like this Ye Wenjin is this way, and so was her mother.
Even after leaving the dance troupe, Shen Xiyun maintained her excellent figure. She was disciplined every day, never overindulged in food, and kept up her exercise routine. Sometimes, Ye Wenjin would even see Shen Xiyun practicing her dance moves.
It was as if, she was hoping for a day when she could return to the stage.
But in the end, she never got that chance. Or perhaps she did, but Jian Li’s extremism drained the life out of her.
The first half of Shen Xiyun’s life was radiant, but the latter half.
Jian Mo didn’t know if Shen Xiyun ever regretted it, because every time she was allowed to visit, Shen Xiyun was always smiling. She never showed her a cold face her attitude remained the same as always.
It wasn’t until Shen Xiyun so decisively ended her own life that Jian Mo realized, she just didn’t want her to worry.
Because whenever they failed to escape, they would inevitably be punished by Jian Li. Eventually, Shen Xiyun no longer even entertained the thought of running away. The last time Jian Mo saw her, she heard her whisper softly, “Forget it.”
But Jian Mo didn’t want to give up. She was still looking for a chance to take Shen Xiyun away. Yet in the end, she never could.
Ye Wenjin was a lot like her mother, but not entirely. At the very least, they shared the same passion for dance.
It’s just that Shen Xiyun had the misfortune of meeting Jian Li.
Jian Li’s feelings for Shen Xiyun were twisted. She was captivated by Shen Xiyun’s presence on stage and wanted nothing more than to possess such a dazzling person.
But once she had her, she grew bored, so she took lover after lover outside.
By the time Shen Xiyun’s heart was thoroughly broken and she resolved to leave, Jian Li refused even going so far as to imprison her.
But that wasn’t love at all.
Jian Li had spent years brainwashing her, yet Jian Mo felt she would never be like Jian Li.
She knew just how perfect Ye Wenjin was for the stage, so she wanted her to soar higher. And no matter how high she flew, Jian Mo would always be there below, watching ensuring she never fell.
Her little Jin just needed to fly without worry.
Jian Mo studied her carefully. “Then after finals, we’ll make sure you replenish properly.”
Ye Wenjin nodded obediently. “Okay, sis.”
This was the first time the two of them had eaten in the car.
Luckily, the interior space was fairly spacious, and the features were quite comprehensive. Jian Mo pressed something Jian Mo wasn’t sure what and a small table rose up, making it easy to eat.
It wasn’t until halfway through the meal that Ye Wenjin suddenly wondered if this was really appropriate. Unable to keep it to herself, she asked, “Sis, is it really okay for us to eat in the car?”
Jian Mo’s expression didn’t change. “What’s the problem?”
Ye Wenjin hesitated. “The smell might be a bit strong.”
Jian Mo remained unfazed. “We’ll just roll down the windows to air it out later.”
Ye Wenjin thought about it and figured that made sense, so she nodded and continued eating.
No matter how slowly they ate, the meal eventually had to end. Ye Wenjin was reluctant, but she knew they had to part.
“Sis, I’ll go now.”
Jian Mo nodded slowly. “Go ahead.”
Ye Wenjin turned back three times with every step, her longing completely unconcealed. Jian Mo couldn’t help but smile.
By the time Ye Wenjin’s figure disappeared from sight, the smile on Jian Mo’s face gradually faded but compared to before, her mood was clearly much better.
Butler Wu seemed to have timed it perfectly, appearing again shortly after Ye Wenjin left. With a glance, she noticed Jian Mo was in much better spirits and couldn’t help but smile.
“Miss, are we heading back to the company now?”
Jian Mo gave a soft hum in response.
The car started and soon disappeared into the distance.
Before long, the employees noticed that their CEO, who had stepped out earlier, returned in a noticeably better mood!
Throughout the afternoon, those who went in to report their work entered nervously but left with sighs of relief.
Compared to the terrifying version of CEO Jian from the past few days, this afternoon’s version was practically an angel!
Everyone speculated whether something good had happened and earnestly hoped for more of it.
At the same time, a rumor suddenly spread throughout the company Jian Mo had suddenly ramped up her workload, seemingly preparing to take some time off soon, and it wasn’t for a business trip.
If it wasn’t a business trip, then it was likely for something like a vacation.
But this was rather unbelievable. Veteran employees who had been with the company for years said CEO Jian had never taken a vacation before even during holidays, she could often be seen in the office.
Thus, a new wave of discussions began.
Meanwhile, Jian Mo was rushing to handle her tasks partly because Ye Wenjin wasn’t around, but also because she genuinely wanted to free up time for the trip.
She didn’t want to have to squeeze in work during her vacation that would really dampen the mood.
As for Ye Wenjin, after meeting Jian Mo, she returned glowing, showing no trace of the exhaustion from finals week.
When the drained and dazed Chu Yunsheng saw her, she practically jolted upright from her near-death state, clicking her tongue in amazement.
“A medical miracle, Wenjin! How did you come back so refreshed after just going out?”
Her teasing tone made Ye Wenjin a little embarrassed, but the smile on her face was unstoppable.
At this point, it was obvious to everyone, Ye Wenjin must have gone out to see Jian Mo.
Chu Yunsheng sighed dramatically. “Why don’t I have a partner? Seriously, you two are just too sweet.”
Ye Wenjin failed to suppress her grin and comforted her, “Yunsheng, you just don’t want to date, right? I saw someone asking for your contact info just yesterday.”
Chu Yunsheng: “…?”
“How did you see that?”
Ye Wenjin recalled, “I just happened to notice. I was going to say hi, but the situation didn’t seem appropriate, so I left.”
Chu Yunsheng: “How considerate of you, Wenjin. Next time, please interrupt!”
Ye Wenjin blinked in confusion. “Huh? Why?”
Chu Yunsheng gritted her teeth. “Because that person has been pestering me for ages!!! I’m so sick of it. I’ve rejected her more than once, but she just won’t take no for an answer. It’s really annoying.”
Ye Wenjin frowned slightly. “Oh? I thought she was just asking for your number normally.”
Chu Yunsheng looked utterly exasperated, with a faint aura of despair. “I really can’t stand clingy people. And more importantly, she’s not even my type.”
At this, Ye Wenjin grew curious. “So, what is your type?”
For some reason, the dorm room seemed to grow even quieter after this question, though Ye Wenjin didn’t have time to dwell on it.
Chu Yunsheng answered without hesitation. “Me? I like someone gentle, cute, and full of energy. Preferably with a good personality otherwise, we’d just end up arguing over every little thing. Honestly, I really hate arguing.”
Hearing this, Ye Wenjin paused, involuntarily recalling the intensity of Chu Yunsheng’s argument that night, it hardly seemed like the behavior of someone who wasn’t interested. Still, she tactfully chose not to contradict her.
“But when it comes to ideal types, of course, it’s based on personal preferences. It’s hard to say exactly what kind of person would make my heart flutter maybe the right one just hasn’t come along yet?”
Ye Wenjin nodded in agreement. “True, it’s better not to rush these things. Take your time.”
Chu Yunsheng let out a long sigh, her tone wistful. “If I take any more time, the best years of university will be over.”
Ye Wenjin couldn’t help but laugh.
As the two chatted, Rong Yunshu, who had been listening quietly, couldn’t help but glance at Zhou Wushang. From her angle, she couldn’t see the other girl’s face, nor could she guess her expression.
But one thing was certain, she didn’t look happy. The ideal type Chu Yunsheng had described was nothing like her.
