Your Boyfriend is Great! He's Mine Now - Chapter 29
Su Chen swiped his card to enter the room and indeed found a box of “999” cold medicine. No sooner had he stepped out of the room than he bumped into Chen Yanzhi, who was smoking at the end of the hallway.
“You’re staying on this floor?”
Chen Yanzhi glanced at the box of medicine for a fleeting moment, crushed out his cigarette, and asked, “Are you feeling unwell?”
“No, I’m getting this for Shen-ge. He has a bit of a cold.”
Chen Yanzhi looked at him, his tone ambiguous. “You’re quite attentive, aren’t you?”
Su Chen didn’t understand the meaning behind this lukewarm tone. Wasn’t he fine just a moment ago?
“Stay away from him.”
?
Su Chen had been prepared not to bicker with him anymore, but hearing this, he retorted, “What do you mean by that!?”
“Just a friendly reminder.”
Su Chen asked tentatively, “Are you on Xiao Yu’s side?”
Chen Yanzhi smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “He doesn’t deserve it.”
Damn, so arrogant. It was actually kind of cool.
Su Chen mused, “Then why did you tell me to stay away from Shen-ge?”
“Figure it out yourself.”
Su Chen really did take it seriously. His expression shifted from confusion to a glimmer of understanding, then to surprise, and finally to a sudden realization. He exclaimed excitedly, “I know, you like Shen-ge, right?”
“…”
Chen Yanzhi seemed momentarily speechless, too lazy to even respond as he turned and walked away.
Su Chen, convinced he had guessed the truth, followed behind him. “It’s okay, you know. Even though I don’t know you well, you’re definitely better than that bastard Xiao Yu.”
Chen Yanzhi stopped in his tracks at that. “What did you base that judgment on?”
“Does that even need a judgment?” Su Chen seemed genuinely baffled by the question. “Pick anyone off the street, and they’d still be better than Xiao Yu, wouldn’t they?”
“…”
Chen Yanzhi didn’t feel like he had been complimented.
“Besides, you’re low-key, you talk a lot, and you’re persistent you’re a great match for Shen-ge. They say that people with complementary personalities are the ones who last.”
It was the first time Chen Yanzhi had heard anyone describe him with such adjectives. He twitched the corner of his mouth and asked expressionlessly, “Did you delete my WeChat?”
“No.”
Su Chen didn’t know why he had suddenly asked such an irrelevant question, but he answered truthfully.
“Is that so? I feel like you’re the one who talks more.”
He tossed that comment over his shoulder, leaving the baffled Su Chen shut out behind the door.
?
After turning the matter over in his head for a long time without finding an answer, Su Chen stood in place for a while. He pulled out his phone, found the WeChat contact he had never messaged, and sent a voice note: “I really didn’t delete you.”
After sending it successfully, Su Chen didn’t dwell on it he had more important things to tell Shen Xubai. However, he arrived a step too late. By the time he reached the room, he saw that Xiao Yu was already in the middle of a dispute with Shen Xubai.
“Shen-ge, are you okay?”
Shen Xubai’s expression softened upon seeing Su Chen. “I’m fine.”
When Xiao Yu saw Su Chen, his expression soured significantly. He said with obvious distaste, “Why are you always hovering around like a ghost?”
“You’re the one who’s hovering. You two have already broken up stay away from Shen-ge.”
Break up, break up. Xiao Yu was sick to death of hearing those words. He sneered, “What does it have to do with you? Or are you looking to be the ‘rebound’ guy?”
“Xiao Yu! Watch your mouth.”
Shen Xubai’s expression turned completely grim; a flicker of fury ignited in his calm, clear eyes. Perhaps due to the deep muscle memory of the previous night, the corner of Xiao Yu’s mouth began to throb with pain again. He didn’t say anything more and turned to walk away in silence.
Su Chen followed him into the room, feeling a bit guilty. “Shen-ge, I’m so sorry. Yuze and I only found out today that Xiao Yu was coming, too. Had I known yesterday, I wouldn’t have asked you to come.”
Shen Xubai didn’t mind at all. “It’s fine. Jiangcheng isn’t that big, but it’s not small either. I can’t just avoid every occasion he’s at. Don’t get into conflicts with him; just ignore him.”
“That’s the right attitude. I was just worried you’d be bothered.”
Su Chen handed him the medicine. “It’s not very bitter; remember to take a pack after your meal.”
“Thank you.”
Su Chen occupied the rocking chair, chatting with him aimlessly. “Hey, Shen-ge, did you know Chen Yanzhi before?”
Shen Xubai didn’t know if “knew” was the right word. “We spoke on the phone once; today was the first time we met in person.”
“Oh, what was your first impression of him?”
“Quite good. Why?”
Su Chen grew interested, leaning forward. “Any possibility of something developing between you two?”
?
Shen Xubai’s expression became complex. “…I know you’re anxious, but can you not be this anxious?” He was trying to set him up with anyone he came across.
“Can I help it!”
Su Chen jumped to his feet. “Xiao Yu must have found out you were coming and brought that person here on purpose to disgust you. You didn’t see the look on Lin Jinghe’s face today it was nauseating.”
“I bet it was that bitch Lin Jinghe who did it on purpose. He always loved loitering around you two, and now that he’s officially ‘moved up,’ he’s probably here to show off.”
“Exactly, that must be it.”
Su Chen rambled on for a long time until his mouth was dry, only to notice that Shen Xubai hadn’t reacted at all. His pupils were staring at something, but his gaze was vacant he was clearly zoning out.
“Shen-ge, are you too tired?”
Shen Xubai blinked slowly. “A little, maybe.”
“Then get some rest. I’ll leave first, see you tonight.”
With that, he scurried off in a rush. Shen Xubai pinched the bridge of his nose and, feeling distracted, took a shower intending to catch some sleep.
On the rusty old iron door, dark brown rust streaks crawled across the gaps like dried blood. Clumps of pale green moss were wedged into the cracks of the stone. On the wall of the small, old Western-style villa behind the door, Virginia creepers grew from the ground floor until they covered the windows of the second floor, which faced a room.
The old, decrepit fan made a silent “creak-creak” sound. A half-grown boy wearing a grimy undershirt stood there, his wispy hair matted to his neck by sweat, outlining a thin, gaunt silhouette in the twilight.
The person turned around. It was a face with no features.
Shen Xubai opened his eyes with a sharp gasp. Sweat from his temples flowed down his cheeks and into his neck, bringing with it a damp, sticky sensation. The knocking at the door became increasingly urgent. Shen Xubai rolled out of bed and pulled the door open to see Gu Linyuan watching him with visible tension.
“Senior, why are you sweating so much?”
Shen Xubai took a moment to react. “I had a dream.”
This was the first time Gu Linyuan had seen Shen Xubai in the state of just waking up. He was wearing a round-neck white T-shirt and soft grey trousers. His usually perfectly groomed black hair was now ruffled, and his perpetually calm, clear eyes were shimmering with a hint of moisture. Still dazed from sleep, he looked completely blank, appearing inexplicably cute.
He was so cute that Gu Linyuan wanted to pull him into his arms and inhale his scent, as if he were a cat.
