Your Boyfriend is Great! He's Mine Now - Chapter 30
Impulse is the devil! Impulse is the devil! Impulse is the devil!
Gu Linyuan recited this three times in his mind, striving to suppress the urge within him. He diverted his attention and asked, “Senior, why didn’t you answer when I called you?”
Shen Xubai returned to his bedside in confusion and saw that Gu Linyuan had called three times and sent a few WeChat messages.
“My apologies, I don’t know when it went onto silent mode. Is something the matter?”
Gu Linyuan swaggered into the room, patrolling his “territory” like the master of the house, and said casually, “We’re having a barbecue on the terrace. I came to get you.”
“Oh, alright. I’ll go once I change my clothes.”
As he crossed his arms to change, a glimpse of his sexy, firm waist came into view. His skin was quite fair it seemed he hadn’t spent much time in the sun forming a stark visual contrast with the blood-red eyes of the man behind him. His tailbone was exposed inch by inch as more of his alabaster skin was revealed.
Shen Xubai seemed to just notice him standing there. He immediately lowered his arms, a flash of panic crossing his eyes. “Why are you still here?”
Gu Linyuan didn’t answer. His gait slightly disordered, he walked quickly into the partitioned area. “Senior, I’m just going to borrow the restroom.”
“…”
Borrowing the restroom well, that’s a reasonable excuse.
Shen Xubai had just finished changing his clothes when Gu Linyuan emerged. His face was dripping wet, as if he’d just splashed water on it, and the stray locks of hair on his forehead were clumped together. The man seemed somewhat agitated; his chest was soaked, the fabric clinging tightly to his muscles, rising and falling with his breathing. A glimpse of this revealed a kind of lazy, seductive sexiness.
Shen Xubai looked away. “Let’s go.” He didn’t bother to ask why he had washed his face.
Since it was the weekend, it was crowded. Qin Yuze brought all the friends he had invited to the terrace. It wasn’t open to the public, so everything there was top-tier. Qin Yuze had originally called in a few professionals to handle the grilling, but Su Chen felt that eating pre-made food was boring and insisted on messing around with it himself. Consequently, the air wasn’t filled with the appetizing aroma of spices, but rather predominantly with the smell of burnt food.
As soon as Shen Xubai arrived, he was stopped by Su Chen.
“Shen-ge, do you know how to barbecue?”
Shen Xubai paused for a moment and shook his head.
“Serves you right for showing off. Now we don’t have a single person who knows how to grill!” Qin Yuze pulled out his phone, preparing to call the professionals back.
Su Chen didn’t feel ashamed; on the contrary, he felt a sense of pride. “Since I’m so perfect, God had to close a window for me; otherwise, how could you survive?”
“Damn you, get out.”
Just as the two were bickering, the rich, fragrant scent of cumin and chili pepper wafted toward them. Their gazes were immediately drawn to the man currently manning the grill.
“Damn, Yuze, is that Gu-shao?”
Qin Yuze nodded as if in a trance. “Looking at his face, it should be.”
“He really is handsome. No wonder he’s in the top three on the newly released ‘Most Eligible Bachelors’ list.”
“Since when was there a list? Why didn’t I know about it?”
Su Chen looked at him with disdain. “You’re behind the times.”
Qin Yuze really hadn’t heard of it and asked curiously, “Then who are the top three?”
Su Chen counted them off seriously, as if it were a matter of great importance. “Number one is surnamed Su, number two is pending, and number three is surnamed Gu.”
As expected, he’s spouting nonsense again.
Qin Yuze rolled his eyes. “Why is number two pending? Is no one in this circle good enough for you?”
Su Chen acted coy. “Well, that’s reserved for you. If you come and suck up to me, I might just seal your spot as number two.”
“Get lost.”
“Hahahahahaha…”
Su Chen burst into explosive laughter, leaning straight toward Qin Yuze. The latter grumbled and cursed, but eventually couldn’t hold back his own laughter.
After playing around for a while, Su Chen grew hungry and went over to take a look at the barbecue. Gu Linyuan’s posture as he brushed on oil, flipped the meat, and sprinkled seasoning was incredibly skilled. Su Chen watched in awe. After the group of people trying to chat him up left in disappointment one after another, he approached and asked, “Gu-shao, do you really know how to do this?”
“Mn.”
“Damn, where did you learn?”
Su Chen started a conversation with his usual familiarity. “I was doing the exact same thing just now, but mine kept getting burnt and weren’t cooked through inside. How come yours smells so delicious?”
Gu Linyuan didn’t answer; he gave a light, airy glance at the people currently flirting with Shen Xubai. I’m annoyed. His mood only improved when he saw the look of disappointment on their faces as they left.
Seeing that he was being aloof, Su Chen lost the interest to chat. He followed Gu Linyuan’s gaze and his eyes lit up. “You’re fast.”
“Hey, don’t you think Swallow and Shen-ge make a good match?”
One sentence hit Gu Linyuan twice. He ignored the part about them being a match and asked with interest, “Yanzhi?”
Su Chen, thinking they were friends, told him about what happened that day. “Swallow it’s just a play on his name, easy to remember.”
Gu Linyuan didn’t say anything, but across the distance, he locked eyes for a second with Chen Yanzhi, who happened to be looking their way. He smiled, though the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
“It should be cooked now.”
Su Chen stared intensely at the duck skewer, his mouth nearly watering.
“Here, take it.” Gu Linyuan generously handed him a skewer.
Su Chen took a bite, his eyes glowing. The meat was sizzling with oil, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a perfect balance of saltiness and spice. It was absolutely delicious, completely rivaling the night market stalls outside. Just as he reached out for another, Gu Linyuan handed him the whole plate.
Afterward, the chef Master Gu took the other plate to Shen Xubai’s side.
“Senior, eat something.”
Seeing Su Chen’s group already dividing the skewers, Shen Xubai didn’t decline. “Thank you.”
Chen Yanzhi also picked up a skewer and began to eat, his expression unchanged.
“Go eat over there.”
Gu Linyuan sat down nearby and chased the others away without a hint of politeness. Chen Yanzhi didn’t even shift an inch, his voice flat. “I wouldn’t dare eat anything from over there.”
Gu Linyuan pretended not to hear him, looking at Shen Xubai with a smile. “Is it good?”
“Mn.”
Although his response was perfunctory, he had already begun eating his second skewer. Gu Linyuan curled his lips. “It’s all yours. Take your time.”
Staring unblinkingly at someone while they ate was incredibly rude, but Gu Linyuan seemed completely unaware. Shen Xubai hesitated for a second, then took the initiative to hand a skewer to Gu Linyuan. Stopping his mouth should, hopefully, stop his eyes.
Gu Linyuan took it immediately, his voice filled with laughter. “Thank you, Senior.”
Chen Yanzhi silently moved a bit further away.
On the other side, Su Chen stood with the grill pan, shouting, “Grilled by Gu-shao himself! Get them while they’re hot, hurry up before they’re gone!”
“Thank you, Gu-shao!”
The crowd swarmed over, shouting their thanks as they began to taste. Su Chen kept one for himself and one for Qin Yuze. “Try it! Gu-shao’s skill is amazing. I’ve decided to promote him to number two.”
With such a high evaluation, Qin Yuze was genuinely curious. But after one bite, his facial features contorted, and the praise he had prepared in his mind simply wouldn’t come out. He scanned the crowd and found that everyone was in the same predicament daring neither to swallow nor to spit, all of them wearing the same grimaced expressions.
Only Su Chen spat his out instantly, looking puzzled. “Why is this skewer so salty and still raw inside?”
Once someone broke the ice, things became much easier. One after another, they spat the food out nonchalantly, picked up drinks or alcohol to wash it down, and remained silent. Qin Yuze wearily made a phone call to urge the professionals to return.
Xiao Yu watched with disdain. With such amateur skills, he dares to show off in front of the experts. He knew perfectly well that this stunt by Gu Linyuan was nothing more than an attempt to curry favor with Shen Xubai what a pity.
Harboring the intent to watch them make a fool of themselves, he glanced over, only to have his expression freeze instantly. He saw that Shen Xubai was eating quite well, with absolutely no look of being unable to swallow the food. No, one could even say he was enjoying it.
Xiao Yu simply couldn’t believe it. Shen Xubai had gone to such lengths to accommodate Gu Linyuan and to spite him, even eating something not even a dog would touch as if it were a delicacy.
Xiao Yu watched as Shen Xubai ate skewer after skewer, then Gu Linyuan said something, and Shen Xubai curved his eyes in a smile.
It was impossibly intimate.
Does he think I’m dead?!
