You cheated, I divorced, why are you kneeling and begging me? - Chapter 51
After the old man’s condition stabilized, Mu Yichen took Nan Xi home.
Exhausted from the long day, Nan Xi collapsed onto the sofa as soon as she entered the house.
Mu Yichen walked over, helped her take off her coat, held her in his arms, and handed her a glass of water. “If you’re tired, I’ll carry you to rest.”
Although Nan Xi hadn’t been with Mu Yichen for long, being with him always gave her an indescribable sense of comfort and trust.
Moreover, he took care of everything for her, sparing her from worrying about trivial matters.
Just like the treatment plan today, it was only properly finalized after he consulted numerous experts.
“Thank you, Mu Yichen,” Nan Xi said sincerely.
She could feel that his kindness toward her came from the heart.
Hearing this, Mu Yichen smiled and looked at her. “How will you thank me?”
As he spoke, he leaned closer to Nan Xi.
Before she could react, Mu Yichen had already pulled her into his embrace and pressed his lips against hers. Nan Xi’s breath hitched, and she closed her eyes.
Mu Yichen shifted, positioning himself above her. Their soft lips remained pressed together as his other arm wrapped tightly around her waist, holding her securely. Nan Xi’s already flustered expression instantly flushed bright red.
It wasn’t until an hour later that Mu Yichen finally stopped. Nan Xi was too exhausted to speak, her body feeling as if it had been run over by a boulder.
Annoyed, she pushed him away. “It’s all your fault.”
Mu Yichen chuckled, picked her up, and carried her to the bathroom to help her clean up.
After a bath, some of her fatigue faded, and Nan Xi felt much more comfortable. Leaning against the headboard, she watched as Mu Yichen dried her hair.
This man, who seemed so aloof, could be so meticulous. Touched, she couldn’t help but ask him a question.
“Mu Yichen, why did you marry me?”
This question had been bothering her.
She didn’t believe it was just about compatibility.
She gazed into his deep eyes, hoping to hear his true feelings.
Mu Yichen paused while drying her hair. Their eyes met, and his gaze intensified. “What if I told you I fell for you the first time I saw you? Would you believe me?”
Mu Yichen had visited the Nan family multiple times. The first time he encountered this little sister, he was captivated by her cheerfulness and charm.
Although she was a young lady, she wasn’t arrogant. Instead, she was sensible and lively, like a little sprite.
She would get angry and act spoiled with Nan Xu, but that didn’t stop her from protecting him when it mattered.
From that moment on, she had a place in his heart. He would deliberately visit the Nan family just to catch a glimpse of her.
Nan Xi was stunned, completely unprepared for such an answer.
A few years ago, Mu Yichen had indeed frequently visited her home.
She had simply regarded him as her brother’s friend and hadn’t paid him much attention. Little did she know that he had already noticed her back then.
Moreover, all these years, he had remained single. Could it be that he was waiting for her?
The thought startled her.
She never realized he loved her so deeply.
“Then… what if I hadn’t gotten divorced?”
“I would have stayed alone.”
If she divorced, he would marry her without hesitation.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have entered into marriage.
Nan Xi was speechless, staring at Mu Yichen in astonishment.
So, his alliance with the Nan family wasn’t for the family’s sake it was for her.
Waves of emotion stirred within her, and she continued, “What if I can’t have children? Would you.”
Before she could finish, Mu Yichen interrupted, “Then we won’t have any.”
Nanxi was completely stunned, never expecting him to say such a thing.
She had been married to Qin Xiaozhe for five years and had never gotten pregnant.
At the time, she was busy with work, and aside from Deng Xiu, no one in the Qin family seemed to care, so she hadn’t paid it much attention and never noticed the issue.
It wasn’t until after the divorce, when Lin Rufei became pregnant with Qin Xiaohe’s child, that Nanxi realized she might be unable to have children.
If that were the case, wouldn’t she be burdening Mu Yichen?
But she never imagined he would outright refuse the idea.
For a moment, she was at a loss for words.
“Won’t your family have any objections?”
“Nanxi, you married me, not them. You don’t need to worry about their opinions.”
He wouldn’t let those people bother her, either.
Nanxi knew the Mu family was far from peaceful. She had heard some things about Old Master Mu, and he had even reached out to her before. Yet, he never disturbed her directly she knew Mu Yichen was behind it, quietly protecting her.
Feeling his sincerity, she hugged him tightly. “Mu Yichen, thank you for your honesty and understanding.”
Hearing her words, Mu Yichen felt a pang of guilt.
There was something he had kept from Nanxi.
If she found out that their marriage had been built on deception from the start, would she still rely on him as she did now?
The confession on the tip of his tongue was swallowed back.
He began to worry, what if she discovered that his alliance with the Nan family had been premeditated? That even the crisis with the Nan family’s new energy project and the continued support through marriage were all part of a scheme he and Nan Xu had orchestrated? Would she be furious?
Mu Yichen grew anxious, tightening his arms around her.
He didn’t dare let go.
That night, Nanxi slept soundly.
But Mu Yichen lay awake until dawn.
Early the next morning, after dropping Nanxi off at Nanyuan Group, he headed straight to the studio to find Nan Xu.
“What brings you here? Don’t tell me you’ve changed your mind about giving me this studio,” Nan Xu asked, noticing Mu Yichen’s agitated entrance.
Mu Yichen shot him a glance. “When have I ever taken back something I’ve given?”
Especially when it was a gift for his brother-in-law.
“Then why do you look so fierce this early in the morning? Did you have a fight with my sister? Let me tell you, Mu Yichen, I agreed to let my sister marry you because I trusted you. If you dare bully her, I won’t let you off easy.”
Mu Yichen rolled his eyes. “As if I would.”
Nan Xu knew how much Mu Yichen doted on his sister. “Then what’s going on?”
“When are your parents returning to the country?” Mu Yichen asked.
“In about two and a half weeks. They’re traveling abroad and checking out new projects while they’re at it.” Nan Xu paused, looking puzzled. “Why the sudden interest in my parents?”
“I want to come clean with Nanxi about the arranged marriage.”
He had spent the night thinking it over and felt more and more that he shouldn’t keep deceiving Nanxi.
But if he confessed outright, he was afraid she would leave him out of anger. That’s why he thought of her parents, if they were around, they would surely help calm her down.
Nan Xu immediately exploded. “What? You’re going to throw me under the bus?”
After all, he had been in on the scheme to deceive his sister from the beginning. If the truth came out, he would be implicated.
“No, no, absolutely not. You can’t tell her.”
He had never deceived his sister before. If she found out, she would definitely be angry with him.
“I don’t want to lie to Nanxi anymore.”
“But you can’t drag me into this! I only lied to my sister back then to help you, Mu Yichen. You can’t repay kindness with betrayal.”
Mu Yichen glanced at Nan Xu, noting his objection, and after a moment’s thought replied, “Selling you out is still better than deceiving my wife.”
He knew perfectly well who mattered more his wife or his buddy.
“You! Mu Yichen, just you dare say it!”
Mu Yichen didn’t respond, leaving the studio as Nan Xu stomped in frustration behind him.
If only he’d known better than to help him earlier. Now he’d lifted a rock only to drop it on his own foot.
Still, it had to be said Mu Yichen was truly devoted to his sister.
Ah, well. A little suffering wasn’t the end of the world. After all, she was his own sister.
