- Chapter 3 - Witnessing with My Own Eyes
“I refuse,” Nanxi rejected.
Having her clean wasn’t enough now they wanted her to be Lin Rufei’s assistant.
She felt Lin Rufei was doing this on purpose.
She had already submitted her resignation. In just thirty days, she could leave the Qin Corporation.
Qin Xiaoze knew what she was thinking, she simply didn’t want to help Rufei and was unhappy about it. “Working under any leader is still work. What, do you have to stick to me even as an assistant?”
That used to be the case. As long as she could be close to Qin Xiaoze, even as an assistant, she was willing.
But not anymore.
Nanxi replied, “You think too highly of yourself, Qin Xiaoze. It’s not because of you.”
Qin Xiaoze didn’t believe her. “Then why?”
“I don’t like her and don’t want to serve her. Is that reason enough?”
After saying this, Nanxi turned to leave.
But Qin Xiaoze grabbed her wrist, pulled her into his office, and slammed the door shut.
“Qin Xiaoze, what are you doing?” Nanxi struggled, trying to break free.
Instead, Qin Xiaoze pressed her against the desk, his body pinning her waist. “Is it because I’ve been spending time with Rufei these past few days and neglected you? Are you jealous? Can’t bear to be apart from me? Fine, I’ll satisfy you right here!”
“Let me go! Qin Xiaoze, you bastard!” Nanxi tried to break free, but Qin Xiaoze leaned in and kissed her neck.
Nanxi’s blood boiled with rage. She screamed desperately, “Qin Xiaoze, if you love her so much, why don’t you go sleep with her? Being with me, treating me as her substitute doesn’t that disgust you?”
Her words abruptly snapped Qin Xiaoze out of his frenzy.
He released her, took a step back, and gripped her neck with one hand. His eyes bulged slightly with fury. “You have no right to speak of her like that!”
In his eyes, Lin Rufei was perfect and gentle. He wouldn’t dare harm a single hair on her head how could she be defiled like this?
Slap! Nanxi broke free and struck him across the face.
The faint red marks on her neck were clearly visible. Her eyes had lost their spark, now dull and gray. “Disgusting!”
With that, Nanxi picked up her bag and left.
Qin Xiaoze’s cheek burned with pain. Watching her retreating figure, his expression turned icy. He glanced down at his hand, recalling her desperate, disappointed cry. His fingers trembled slightly before curling into a fist.
For a moment, he felt a pang of guilt, but the thought of her insulting Lin Rufei extinguished that feeling, replacing it with anger. He called Luo Rongfei. “Notify everyone, Nanxi is fired!”
Luo Rongfei was surprised. “President Qin, Nanxi has already submitted her resignation.”
“When?”
How could she bear to leave?
“Announce her termination. Blacklist her from the industry. Let’s see who would hire her after leaving the Qin Corporation!
After leaving the office, Nanxi walked away without looking back.
She had originally planned to wait for her replacement to arrive and complete the handover, but now she couldn’t stand staying even one more day.
Nanxi hung up the phone and prepared to go pack her things when her phone suddenly rang.
Seeing it was the landline from the old mansion, she answered immediately.
“Nanxi, the old master’s blood pressure has shot up to 175. You need to come back quickly.”
“I’ll be right there.”
Nanxi hung up and set off immediately for the old mansion.
But then she thought of how the old man had been constantly thinking about Qin Xiaoze, so she turned back and headed to the CEO’s office to find him.
In her haste, she didn’t bother knocking. Seeing the door slightly ajar, she pushed it open directly. “Qin Xiaoze, Grandpa isn’t feeling well.”
Before she could finish, she looked up and saw Lin Rufei sitting at the desk, while Qin Xiaoze stood beside her, his hands resting on either side of her shoulders as he held her hands, guiding her on the computer. They were chatting and laughing, and when Lin Rufei turned her head, her red lips almost brushed against Qin Xiaoze’s face, her gaze lingering. Their bodies were so close they were practically pressed together.
At the sight before her, Nanxi froze, stopping in her tracks.
“Don’t you have hands? Don’t you know how to knock?” Qin Xiaoze was clearly displeased by Nanxi’s sudden appearance, his tone cold and stern as he took a step back.
Seeing the scene unfold, Nanxi understood everything. She averted her gaze. “I need to talk to you.”
Qin Xiaoze felt a pang of guilt, as if he’d been caught, but it vanished completely upon hearing Nanxi’s words. “Didn’t you say you were resigning and leaving the company? What, you haven’t even stepped out the door and you’re already regretting it? If you can’t bear to leave me, stop playing these petty games!”
Nanxi truly hadn’t expected to interrupt them. Had she known they were being so intimate, she would never have come looking for him.
“My apologies for disturbing you. Please continue.”
With that, Nanxi turned to leave.
“Nanxi, I’ve just taken over this position and I’m still unfamiliar with some things. Xiaoze was just teaching me. Don’t misunderstand, I didn’t mean to drive you away,” Lin Rufei stepped forward, taking Nanxi’s hand as she offered an explanation.
Nanxi shook her off in disgust. “No misunderstanding. You’re his fiancée. Even if you two were sleeping together in here, it wouldn’t be my business.”
“Nanxi!” Qin Xiaoze’s voice was icy, filled with fury. “Who gave you the right to speak to Rufei like that?”
“Feeling protective? She’s the other woman, and I’m being polite by even speaking to her this way.”
“If it weren’t for her, do you think I’d marry you? Even if there’s a third party here, it’s you!”
Qin Xiaoze’s jaw tightened, his angry voice betraying a fierce, irritable rage. Nanxi laughed mockingly at his words, rolled her eyes, and left the office.
She shouldn’t have come.
“Wait.” As Nanxi reached the hallway, Lin Rufei chased after her.
Meeting Nanxi’s sharp glare, Lin Rufei stepped closer, smirking disdainfully as she fiddled with her perfectly manicured nails, her gaze lingering on Nanxi’s rough fingers. “So what if you’re Mrs. Qin? The only reason Xiaoze cares about you is because your face resembles mine. In his eyes, you’re nothing but a bedwarming nanny.”
“Having a mouth doesn’t mean you should spew nonsense. You two are a perfect match, a pair of scoundrels. I hope you stay together forever and make each other miserable.” With that, Nanxi turned and stepped into the elevator.
Once in her car, she immediately called Qi Zhengchu, informing him of the old man’s condition and asking him to come over.
Nanxi arrived at the old residence just as Qi Zhengchu pulled up.
“Grandpa’s blood pressure has been stable all month. Last week, he had some trouble sleeping, but it’s improved over the past few days. I don’t know why it suddenly spiked today.”
Nanxi briefed him on the old man’s condition as they walked inside.
Qin Xiaoze’s father had passed away early, his mother was busy playing mahjong, and Qin Xiaoze was always occupied with his career. Nanxi had been the one looking after the old man’s health, visiting him several times a week. No one understood his condition better than she did.
The old man lay in bed, attended by the caretaker. When the two arrived, the old man opened his eyes and, seeing it was Nanxi, smiled kindly. “Xixi is here. Grandpa is fine, don’t worry.”
“Grandpa, how are you feeling?” Nanxi stepped forward and took the old man’s hand.
“I’m fine.”
Qi Zhengchu checked the old man’s blood pressure and took his pulse before pulling Nanxi aside. “The old man hasn’t been sleeping well lately. I’ll prescribe some medicine to help regulate his sleep. Make sure he takes his blood pressure medication on time, keeps his emotions stable, and pays attention to his diet. That should help improve his condition. However, with his blood pressure this high, we still need to take it seriously.”
“Alright.” Nanxi thanked Qi Zhengchu and saw him out.
But just as they reached the door, they ran into Deng Xiu, who had returned from playing cards.
“What are you doing here? Did you know my son called to say he’s bringing Miss Lin from the Lin family for dinner and deliberately came to wait for him here?”
