- You cheated, I divorced, why are you kneeling and begging me?
- Chapter 2 - Not Qualified
“President Qin said that if you refuse to accept this, you should go to the old residence and inform the old master about your divorce.”
Nanxi gritted her teeth so hard they nearly shattered.
Qin Xiaoze knew exactly how to manipulate her.
Knowing she was worried about the old master’s health, he actually said something like that.
“I’ll do it!”
Nanxi picked up the mop and began cleaning. But just as she was halfway through, Qin Xiaoze walked in with a woman by his side.
The woman stood beside Qin Xiaoze and, the moment Nanxi turned around, linked her arm with his. “You must be Nanxi. You really do look like me. Thank you for taking such good care of Xiaoze and for mopping the floor so cleanly.”
Nanxi stared at Lin Rufei’s face.
Similar.
They really did look alike.
No wonder Qin Xiaoze was playing this game of finding a substitute for his lost love.
“It’s all her duty. No need to be polite with her.” Qin Xiaoze’s gaze remained fixed on Lin Rufei’s face, completely oblivious to Nanxi’s darkening expression.
Lin Rufei smiled delightedly, but as her eyes swept over the still-uncleaned desk, her brow furrowed slightly. “Why hasn’t the desk been wiped yet? Nanxi, wipe the desk for me. Do it a few times. And the glass too, wipe it several times. I’m afraid of dirt.”
Nanxi threw the mop to the ground and retorted, “I’m the president’s assistant. Cleaning isn’t part of my job.”
Qin Xiaoze’s face turned cold. “You’re my assistant, and Rufei is my person. What’s wrong with cleaning for her? You do these tasks perfectly well at home, why can’t you do them at the company?”
An inexplicable wave of bitterness surged in Nanxi’s heart, washing over her like a spring until it filled her chest.
“Just because I do a lot, does that mean I should do everything?” Nanxi refused outright. “She’s your person, not mine. Why should I do these things?”
Qin Xiaoze’s eyes flashed with anger. “Nanxi!”
“Alright.” Before Qin Xiaoze could lose his temper, Lin Rufei shook his arm and cooed, “Xiaoze, does Nanxi not welcome me here? She has such a bad temper is she deliberately targeting me?”
Qin Xiaoze looked at Lin Rufei, his eyes filled with tenderness. “She’s not qualified to do that.”
An assistant had no right to decide such matters.
With that, he pointed at the mop on the floor and commanded, “Have I been too lenient with you? This is the company. Do as I say and clean up immediately. If you can’t even handle such a simple task, then you don’t deserve to be an assistant.”
Nanxi never wanted to be an assistant in the first place.
In the past, she was willing to be his assistant because she felt happy being with him. She was content to do everything for him, even if it was just a minor role, as long as she could stay by his side.
But now, knowing his love was fake, she no longer wanted to do anything.
“I won’t clean. Do whatever you want.” With that, Nanxi turned and walked away.
“Nanxi!”
Ignoring the shouts behind her, Nanxi returned to her office, picked up her resignation letter, and prepared to go to the HR department to sign it.
Just as she stood up, Assistant Luo walked in. “Assistant Nan, what did you do wrong? The president seems really angry and plans to issue a company-wide reprimand.”
What mistake could it be? Nothing more than refusing to clean Lin Rufei’s office as he demanded.
“Let him issue the reprimand. I don’t care.”
She didn’t even want the job anymore, what did a reprimand matter?
“You should go apologize quickly. You know President Qin’s temper. He seems to care a lot about Vice President Lin. If you don’t apologize, he might really fire you.”
“Care? He doesn’t just care about Lin Rufei, he practically holds her in the palm of his hand, his eyes glued to her. If he wants to fire me, so be it. It might even be for the best.”
“Nanxi!” Qin Xiaoze had just walked in when he heard her angry words. “Not only do you disobey my orders, but you also gossip about Rufei behind her back. Go apologize to her immediately.”
“Why should I?”
“You know why!”
Nanxi sneered, “Because she’s your first love, the one you can’t forget? Because even when you got married, you chose a substitute for her? And now that she’s divorced, you’re abandoning the substitute to propose to her?”
“You!” Qin Xiaoze was about to explode in anger but suddenly paused, his face filled with disbelief as he processed her mention of the proposal. “How do you know about the proposal?”
After her divorce, Rufei had been feeling down. Following a suicide attempt, she kept sighing in despair. He wanted to stay by her side, but she refused, saying she didn’t want to be the “other woman” or ruin his relationship. She insisted they act as if they didn’t know each other, claiming she wasn’t fortunate enough to be with him, and even blocked his number.
Qin Xiaoze was heartbroken. After finally tracking her down, he gave her the divorce papers as a gift and proposed to her on the spot, which finally brought a smile back to Rufei’s face.
However, very few people knew about his proposal to Rufei. How could Nanxi have found out?
Could it be Luo Rongfei?
But his special assistant had been with him for three years and was utterly loyal, it couldn’t have been him.
Having made his judgment, Qin Xiaoze quickly guessed the truth and pointed at Nanxi. “You were following me?”
He couldn’t think of any other explanation.
Throughout their five years of marriage, Nanxi had always believed Qin Xiaoze understood her, that she would never stoop to such trivial behavior. Yet, she never imagined he would think so little of her.
He trusted even Luo Rongfei so completely, yet he doubted her, his own wife.
She gave a faint, bitter smile. “I’m not that bored.”
When a man doesn’t trust you, no matter how much you explain, it’s all just excuses in his eyes.
Perhaps out of guilt, Qin Xiaoze’s anger subsided slightly. “Stop causing trouble and always comparing yourself to her. She’s different from you. If you upset her, just pack up and leave the company.”
Qin Xiaoze’s harsh words pierced Nanxi’s heart like a sharp thorn.
She stared blankly at her computer screen for a long time before slowly snapping out of it and heading to the HR department to sign the resignation papers.
After HR approved, she took the documents to Luo Rongfei.
Regular employees only needed their department manager’s signature to resign, but as the special assistant, Luo Rongfei had the authority to sign off on it.
“Does President Qin know about this?” Luo Rongfei asked, looking at Nanxi’s resignation report.
Very few people in the company knew about Nanxi and Qin Xiaoze’s relationship. Nanxi was unassuming and held only an assistant position, and Qin Xiaoze treated her no differently from anyone else. Luo Rongfei had almost forgotten she was the boss’s wife.
Nanxi didn’t answer, simply saying, “He’ll agree.”
He didn’t even want her anymore, why would he care about her job?
“I should still check with President Qin,” Luo Rongfei said, holding the report and about to look for Nanxi when an employee hurried over. “Special Assistant Luo, Vice President Lin is asking for you.”
“Once you sign it, I’ll let him know,” Nanxi said as he prepared to leave.
Upon hearing this, Luo Rongfei nodded, thinking that since they were a married couple, it would be more appropriate for Nanxi to handle her own resignation. He simply signed his name and turned to attend to other matters.
After submitting the resignation letter to the Human Resources department, the recruitment specialist reminded her, “A new employee will be in place within thirty days. Once the handover is complete, Assistant Nan can leave.”
“Thank you.”
Leaving the HR department, Nanxi felt a wave of relief.
But as soon as she reached her office, she was intercepted by Qin Xiaozhe at the door.
“Ru Fei has just started and isn’t very familiar with the work yet. For the next few days, you’ll be assisting her.”
