- You cheated, I divorced, why are you kneeling and begging me?
- Chapter 20 - Obstruction
Mu Chen hadn’t expected this woman to actually have the nerve to take action.
“Stop!” Qi Zhengchu rushed over the moment the girl moved, grabbing the tip of her blade.
Blood gushed out, staining both Qi Zhengchu’s and the girl’s hands.
Mu Chen’s expression had already turned icy.
His surprise only grew when he saw Mu Yichen enter, causing him to take a step back. “Why are you here?”
“Take them to the hospital,” Mu Yichen instructed Hou Jian.
Qi Zhengchu expressed his thanks and left with the girl, casting a complicated glance at Mu Chen before departing.
Seeing this, Qin Xiaozhe slowly rose to his feet.
Before he could greet Mu Yichen, he watched as Mu Yichen grabbed Mu Chen by the collar and dragged him out.
“Mu Yichen, what are you doing? I’m your eld ” Mu Chen’s words were cut short as Mu Yichen’s fist came down, striking him squarely on the bridge of his nose.
A rush of heat followed, and blood streamed out. Mu Chen wiped it away, his hand now stained red, and glared furiously at Mu Yichen.
“Mu Yichen, how dare you hit me? I’m your uncle!”
Mu Yichen’s cold eyes swept over him. “At best, you’re the old man’s illegitimate son.”
Mu Chen spat out a mouthful of blood, his face full of defiance. “So what if I’m illegitimate? The law states that illegitimate children have the same inheritance rights. I’m entitled to half of the Mu Group.”
Mu Yichen gritted his teeth and, the moment Mu Chen finished speaking, delivered another punch.
This time, it landed on his chin.
Mu Chen gasped in pain, unable to endure it any longer, and fought back.
But Mu Yichen gave him no chance. As Mu Chen charged forward, Mu Yichen dropped into a crouch and swept his leg out, sending Mu Chen crashing heavily to the ground.
Mu Chen grimaced in pain, his face contorted with rage as he scrambled to his feet and glared at Mu Yichen. “Mu Yichen, I haven’t provoked you!”
Mu Yichen remained calm, his gaze cold as he looked at Mu Chen. “I heard that a couple of days ago, you beat someone so badly they ended up in the hospital.”
Mu Chen averted his eyes guiltily. He couldn’t understand how Mu Yichen had found out about such a trivial matter.
But then it occurred to him, this was his own business. What did it have to do with Mu Yichen? By status, he was the uncle, and Mu Yichen was merely his nephew. How dare a junior lecture him? It was outrageous.
He lifted his head again, chin raised arrogantly. “So what? I have money. What’s it to you?”
“The old man doesn’t know about this yet, does he?” Mu Yichen retorted.
Mu Chen’s raised chin froze. “What are you trying to do? I’m warning you don’t tell the old man about this.”
If his father found out about his behavior and all the trouble he’d been stirring up in private, it would likely be the death of him.
Mu Yichen sneered.
The old man had two sons. The eldest was Mu Yichen’s father, who had passed away. Mu Chen, the younger son, was two years younger than Mu Yichen and spent his days idling around, flitting from one woman to another. The old man wasn’t entirely unaware, but he still believed that his younger son was merely immature and would eventually grow into his potential.
He held high hopes for this younger son, aiming to groom him as the successor to the Mu Group.
As for all that Mu Yichen had done for the Mu family over the years, the old man turned a blind eye, waiting only for the day Mu Chen would mature so he could reclaim the company and hand it over to his favored son.
Mu Yichen knew this all too well. So, he paid no mind to how Mu Chen carried on. Mu Chen’s path led to only one destination ruin. Even if he became the pride of the old man’s eyes, Mu Yichen had ways to make sure he was cast aside.
“Why should I help you?” Mu Yichen shot back.
They were not on the same side, with no reason to help each other.
Mu Chen felt helpless; Mu Yichen truly had no reason to assist him.
Within the Mu family, they were adversaries, competitors he wouldn’t kindly lend a hand.
The old master favored him, but that favor came with the condition that he prove himself worthy, that he bring honor and face to the family. Yet, he detested being constrained.
After a moment of inner struggle, Mu Chen had no choice but to relent. “Why have you come to see me?”
Mu Yichen wouldn’t appear here without reason, and since he had investigated him, it was clear he had something to discuss.
Whatever he needed help with was undoubtedly related to the old master Mu Chen understood that much.
Mu Yichen sneered. Mu Chen was indeed clever, but if he applied his intelligence to serious matters, he wouldn’t be in his current state.
“Return to the old mansion and play the filial son for the old master,” Mu Yichen stated.
Mu Chen frowned, thinking he had misheard. “What?”
“You go back and keep the old master company. With you around, he won’t have time to meddle in my affairs,” Mu Yichen clarified.
Mu Chen still couldn’t believe it. “That’s all? Mu Yichen, are you toying with me? Do you think I’d believe that?”
Mu Yichen rarely sought him out, and when he did, he never left without taking a pound of flesh. How could he let him off so easily?
The idea of just playing the filial son seemed far too simple he couldn’t bring himself to trust it.
“The old master has overstepped. My matters are none of his concern.”
“What has he interfered in?” Mu Chen was curious. What could have angered Mu Yichen enough to seek his help?
Since it wasn’t a secret, Mu Yichen told him, “In two weeks, I’m getting married. The old master opposes it. With you by his side, he won’t have the mind to bother with my affairs.”
Mu Chen understood now.
Mu Yichen wanted him to occupy the old master, to keep him too busy to interfere.
So that was the reason no wonder Mu Yichen had come to him.
Still, he was curious about which young lady had managed to make a man like Mu Yichen, as unyielding as iron, finally bloom.
Mu Yichen’s marriage had nothing to do with him, and he had no desire to help.
“I refuse.”
Mu Yichen fixed his sharp gaze on him. “Do you have the right to refuse?”
Without giving Mu Chen time to react, he dropped a final remark, “If the old master disturbs me again tonight, I’ll inform him of all your dealings.”
Having issued his warning, Mu Yichen turned and left.
Back in the private room, Mu Chen smashed everything on the table.
He was the elder, yet in front of Mu Yichen, a junior, he always felt inferior, without even the right to refuse.
Was it because he was an illegitimate child?
His eyes fell on Qin Xiaozhe nearby, and Mu Chen asked, “Do you know who Mu Yichen is marrying?”
Qin Xiaozhe had indeed seen the news. “The eldest daughter of the Nan family.”
The Nan family?
The one with businesses spanning the entire country, now expanding overseas?
If that were the case, wouldn’t Mu Yichen gain a powerful ally?
“Such a favorable match shouldn’t be handed to him so easily,” Mu Chen declared angrily before storming off.
Though Qin Xiaozhe had never met the eldest daughter of the Nan family, he understood their status and influence better than anyone.
Even if the Nan family was facing difficulties, with the Mu family’s support, they would swiftly overcome them and shine even brighter.
If only he had the chance to get to know the Nan family’s eldest daughter.
The more Qin Xiaozhe thought about it, the more excited he became, but with his status, such an opportunity seemed unlikely.
However, he wasn’t disheartened. The news that Mu Chen intended to harm the eldest daughter of the Nan family if he delivered it personally, wouldn’t he easily befriend the young lady of the Nan family?
With this thought, Qin Xiaozhe immediately left the private room and headed to the Nan residence.
