- You cheated, I divorced, why are you kneeling and begging me?
- Chapter 17 - Thoughtfulness
Nanxi always felt that Mu Yichen had something on his mind. Ever since he saw that elderly man, his expression had grown noticeably heavier.
Yet, since he didn’t bring it up, she didn’t ask. Although they were already engaged, they weren’t yet familiar enough to delve into such matters. Besides, if it was something important, he would likely share it when the time was right.
“Where are we going?” Nanxi asked as they stepped out of the elevator.
Mu Yichen snapped out of his thoughts and turned to her, realizing he had been lost in contemplation. “I’m taking you somewhere.”
He needed to resolve the matter concerning the old man as soon as possible he couldn’t let Nanxi get caught up in any danger.
Once he had made up his mind, Qin Xiaozhe (Mu Yichen) set aside his worries and personally drove Nanxi away from the building.
Nanxi was curious about their destination. As the car navigated through the bustling city center, it eventually came to a stop in front of a bridal boutique. Understanding dawned on her.
“Are you taking me to try on wedding dresses?”
Mu Yichen smiled and nodded. “Time is a bit tight, but I hope you’ll like it.”
Just then, Hou Jian emerged from the boutique. “President Mu, Manager Nan, everything has been arranged.”
Seeing Hou Jian, Nanxi understood Mu Yichen had made all the preparations even before she arrived. It was clear he had put a lot of thought into this.
“Let’s go in,” Mu Yichen said, taking her hand and leading her inside.
His hand was broad and warm, and the moment their fingers intertwined, a strange sensation washed over her, like tiny electric currents flowing from her fingertips straight to her heart.
Following his lead, they entered the boutique, where staff were already waiting in the lobby, eagerly guiding her to try on dresses.
Wedding gowns of various styles bloomed like flowers, each one complementing the couples who would soon walk down the aisle.
Seeing these exquisite dresses, Nanxi couldn’t help but feel emotional. Since when had she started dreaming of wearing a wedding gown and stepping into the hall of love with the one she cherished?
When she married Qin Xiaozhe, he had been reluctant to hold a grand ceremony, so they had only registered their marriage without any celebration.
But what girl didn’t yearn for a dreamy wedding dress?
Back then, not wanting to disappoint the person she loved, she had suppressed her desires and never voiced her wishes.
“What are you thinking about?” Mu Yichen’s voice came from behind her as she lost herself in thought.
A floor-length mermaid wedding dress was wheeled in front of her. As she turned to look, the gown shimmered, ethereal and enchanting.
“It’s beautiful,” Nanxi exclaimed in admiration.
“It’s for you. Try it on.”
Nanxi stepped into the fitting room to change while Mu Yichen waited patiently.
He had been waiting for this moment for years. Just imagining her in a wedding dress made his heart surge with emotion.
As the curtain drew back, Nanxi appeared before him in a pristine white wedding gown.
Even though Mu Yichen had mentally prepared himself, the sight still left him stunned.
He stood frozen for a long moment before finally regaining his composure. “Xixi, you look stunning.”
Seeing the admiration in his eyes, a blush spread across Nanxi’s cheeks. Gazing at her reflection in the mirror, she felt deeply moved.
“It fits perfectly. Thank you.”
Mu Yichen stepped closer, standing beside her, and gently took her hand. After pressing a soft kiss to it, he made a request. “From now on, we’ll be husband and wife. Let’s not say ‘thank you,’ okay? Doing things for my wife is only natural.”
His words were simple, yet sincere, and they sent ripples through Nanxi’s heart.
Aside from her parents and brother, no one had ever treated her with such unconditional care.
Even Qin Xiaozhe would never treat her this way. He took her efforts for granted and never did anything for her in return.
“Alright,” she nodded in agreement.
After the manager showered her with praise, Nanxi changed out of the wedding dress.
The fabric, tailoring, and design of the dress were all exactly to her liking it felt as if it had been crafted specifically for her, perfectly capturing her heart.
“The dress fits perfectly,” Nanxi remarked as she took it off, a hint of emotion in her voice.
A nearby sales assistant couldn’t resist adding, “Of course it fits! This dress was specially commissioned by President Mu from Master DC, tailored exclusively for Miss Nan. It’s the only one of its kind in the entire country.”
So, he had prepared it especially for her.
He had put so much thought into it. Moreover, Master DC was notoriously difficult to commission and typically only designed everyday wear, never wedding dresses. To persuade him, Mu Yichen must have gone to great lengths.
After changing, Nanxi intended to ask Mu Yichen about the wedding dress. But when she opened the door, instead of seeing him, she encountered someone else.
“Nanxi? What are you doing here? This is a bridal shop, why are you here?”
Lin Rufei, who had come to choose a wedding dress, spotted Nanxi emerging from the fitting room.
“Is this your home?” Nanxi retorted. “If you can come, why can’t I?”
Lin Rufei caught on, “You didn’t follow us here because you knew Xiaozhe and I were coming to try on wedding dresses today, did you? Nanxi, I advise you to give up. Xiaozhe doesn’t care about you at all. Besides, I’m pregnant with his child. You’d better stay far away and stop being an eyesore in front of him.”
Nanxi ignored her and stepped aside to leave.
Seeing Nanxi walk away, Lin Rufei lifted her chin triumphantly. “Running away because you can’t argue? Ashamed of yourself, aren’t you?”
But no sooner had she spoken than Nanxi returned to the room, holding a megaphone, which she pointed directly at Lin Rufei’s mouth. “Go on, keep shouting. Let your beloved hear what a narrow-minded, petty person you are behind his back.”
Lin Rufei’s face flushed red as she stared at the megaphone. “Nanxi, how could you do this?”
Her shrieking voice echoed through every corner of the bridal shop, successfully drawing Qin Xiaozhe over.
“Xiaozhe, Nanxi came over and bullied me as soon as she saw me. She called me a thief for taking you away,” Lin Rufei said, clinging to Qin Xiaozhe’s arm as she began to sob.
Qin Xiaozhe’s gaze fell on the megaphone in Nanxi’s hand. “What are you doing here? I gave you a chance to come back, and you refused. Now you show up to humiliate Rufei and stop her from marrying me? Nanxi, you’ve gone too far!”
“So you’re saying I came here to stop you from trying on wedding dresses? I’ve already left the Qin family, how would I know about any of this?” Nanxi asked.
Though Qin Xiaozhe didn’t respond, his grim expression made his thoughts clear.
Lin Rufei, seeing this, released Qin Xiaozhe’s arm and approached Nanxi. “It was Chen Ma who told you, wasn’t it? Nanxi, I understand that you still have feelings for Xiaozhe, but you shouldn’t humiliate me like this.”
“Apologize to Rufei!” Qin Xiaozhe snapped.
Watching the two of them perform in perfect sync, Nanxi couldn’t help but laugh in sheer exasperation. “You two really are a match made in heaven with your wild imaginations. A man who cheats during marriage, I’d feel dirty even touching you. Do you think I have nothing better to do than to come here and bother you?”
“Let me make this clear: not only will I not stop you from getting married, I’ll even bless your union. On your wedding day, I’ll send you a grand gift one that’s sure to satisfy you both.”
After Nanxi finished speaking, she ignored the two of them, turned around, and left.
Qin Xiaozhe stared at her resolute retreating figure, seething with anger. But as he watched her walk away without a backward glance, he grew thoughtful.
Lin Rufei observed the scene, particularly noticing the reluctance in Qin Xiaozhe’s eyes. Gritting her teeth, she said, “Nanxi is using a retreat as an advance, hoping you’ll chase after her. Why don’t you go after her? What if she’s genuinely angry?”
“Let her go,” Qin Xiaozhe withdrew his gaze. “I want to see what kind of life she can lead without me.”
The Qin family lived in a villa, accustomed to a life of luxury. He refused to believe she wouldn’t look back sooner or later, she would come begging him.
He was waiting for that day.
After Mu Yichen finished his phone call and stepped out, Nanxi was no longer in the hall.
He searched room by room until his eyes met Qin Xiaozhe’s.
