- Chapter 16 - No Need for Her to Experience
In the study, Lin Rufei pushed the door open and walked straight in. Closing the notebook, she coquettishly complained, “Stop looking at that. How can work be more appealing than me?”
Qin Xiaozhe was in the middle of reviewing financial documents when he was abruptly interrupted, feeling slightly annoyed. “What are you doing?” he asked, reopening his laptop.
“Ugh, how can the laptop be more important than me? I won’t let you look at it,” Lin Rufei insisted, this time shutting it down completely.
Ever since he had proposed marriage, he had headed straight to his study and hadn’t spent any time with her. She was bored out of her mind.
Qin Xiaozhe’s face instantly darkened, and his voice rose involuntarily. “Do you have any idea how long I’ve been reviewing this data?”
He never locked his study, because whenever he was inside, Nanxi would never disturb him that was his rule. Even if she needed to come in, she would knock first, bring him tea or water, ask if he needed any help, and never cross the line by interrupting his work or shutting off his computer.
“Why are you shouting at me? I didn’t know what you were doing,” Lin Rufei said, feeling wronged. “Besides, you never told me the files were important. If they were, why didn’t you close them yourself?”
Qin Xiaozhe wanted to lose his temper, but seeing Lin Rufei’s face, he held back. “Don’t disturb me when I’m busy with work from now on,” he said firmly.
Lin Rufei let out a huff, turning her back to him. Her shoulders trembled as if she were crying, overwhelmed with sadness. “Is it because I’m not as good as Nanxi? Maybe you should just win her back.”
Feeling irritated and flustered, Qin Xiaozhe had no choice but to step forward and comfort her. Wrapping his arms around her shoulders from behind, his voice softened. “That’s not what I meant. Alright, don’t be upset. I was too impatient. I’ll be more careful next time.”
Lin Rufei turned her head, a smile instantly replacing her tears. “Fine, I could never stay mad at you. I just want you to spend more time with me. We’re getting married in half a month come with me to pick out a wedding dress.”
“Can we do it tomorrow?” he asked.
The financial issues were becoming increasingly severe. For some reason, Qin Xiaozhe felt a sense of unease and wanted to resolve them as soon as possible.
But Lin Rufei didn’t give him the chance. Tugging at his arm, she showed him the latest news. “Did you know? Mu Yichen, the CEO of the Mu Group, is marrying the daughter of the Nanyuan Group. They’re getting married in half a month too, on the same day as us. I want to look absolutely stunning and outshine that Miss Nan.”
Qin Xiaozhe’s mind flashed back to what Mu Yichen had said in the hospital room that day that Nanxi was his fiancée.
Naturally, he didn’t believe it. Mu Yichen had only said that to help his employee save face. How could someone like him be interested in a woman like Nanxi, who had no power or influence and was already divorced?
But the daughter of the Nanyuan Group was also surnamed Nan. Could it be.?
“What’s Miss Nan’s name? What does she look like? Have you ever seen her?” Qin Xiaozhe asked.
Lin Rufei immediately grew jealous. “Why are you asking about her? The Nan family is more powerful than ours. Are you thinking of calling off our engagement to marry Miss Nan instead?”
“Don’t talk nonsense!” Qin Xiaozhe retorted.
He knew his limits. Although the Qin family was respectable, it was nothing compared to the Nan family. Even if the Nan family was facing difficulties now, a starved camel was still larger than a horse. Only someone from the Mu family was worthy of Miss Nan’s status.
“Then why are you asking?” Lin Rufei pressed.
“I was just curious,” he replied casually.
“Even casually, it’s not allowed, Qin Xiaozhé. You’re going to marry me your eyes, heart, and words must only have me in them, no other woman. Otherwise, I won’t let this go! Also, since you’ve already agreed to marry me, you have to accompany me. Right now, I want you to come with me to try on wedding dresses!”
Qin Xiaozhe had no choice left. Afraid that saying another word would upset Lin Rufei again, he had no option but to follow her out the door.
With Zhao Dong’s involvement and the Mu family’s support for Nanyuan, the Nanyuan New Energy Project quickly got on track.
When Nanxi received the official project establishment documents from Zhao Dong, she went to Mu Yichen’s office.
She knocked on the door and, hearing a response from inside, entered.
Seeing it was Nanxi, Mu Yichen stood up and walked over to her. The two sat down together on the sofa.
“In the future, when you come to see me, there’s no need to knock,” Mu Yichen said.
Since he had said so, Nanxi didn’t stand on ceremony. At the Mu Corporation, she held the nominal title of project manager, but once the project matured, she would return to Nanyuan to resume her senior position.
She handed the project documents to Mu Yichen. “It’s on track now. We owe the smooth progress to you.”
Mu Yichen glanced through the documents, set them aside, and looked at Nanxi. “I just made an investment.”
From the moment she stepped into the Mu Corporation, Nanxi knew that her relationship with Mu Yichen was a partnership even their impending marriage was part of it.
She didn’t hold high expectations; mutual respect and gradual stability were enough.
“On behalf of Nanyuan’s CEO, I promise that the projects the Mu Corporation invests in will be mutually beneficial.”
Mu Yichen nodded with a smile. As a businessman, he naturally wouldn’t engage in loss-making ventures, but when it came to cooperating with Nanyuan, he hadn’t considered that.
Because the person before him was the greatest return on his investment.
“I trust you,” Mu Yichen said, looking at Nani. “After work, I’ll take you somewhere.”
Nanxi nodded and was about to ask what it was and where they were going when the office door opened.
An elderly man walked in, his gaze sweeping over Mu Yichen’s face before finally settling on Nan Xi’s. His expression was stern, like a wrathful deity from hell, intimidating to behold.
Though she didn’t know his identity, his attire suggested he was someone of high status.
Nanxi stood up. “I’ll get back to work.”
She politely excused herself and, as she passed the old man, bowed her head in a courteous greeting.
However, the old man ignored her and went straight to Mu Yichen, sitting down with a cold expression.
“Are you planning to disregard what I say?” the old man shouted angrily.
Mu Yichen looked at him. “Grandfather, I’ve told you I’m going to marry Nanxi.”
“What’s so great about that woman? Is she more important than the Mu family’s reputation?”
“The Mu family’s reputation was already tarnished by you long ago. What is there left to care about?” Mu Yichen retorted coldly.
Bang!
The old man slammed his hand heavily on the coffee table in front of him. “How dare you!”
Mu Yichen looked at his grandfather sitting beside him, ignoring the fury in his eyes, and spoke calmly, “You don’t have to like Nanxi, but if you cause trouble for her, I can stop being a Mu!”
His words were spoken lightly, but his tone was resolute.
The old man sensed his determination. His murky eyes burned with anger, and his entire body radiated fury.
He had indeed intended to do just that.
He just hadn’t gotten around to making arrangements yet.
“If that Nan family girl wants to be the Mu family’s granddaughter-in-law, can’t she handle a little storm?”
Mu Yichen sneered, “She married me to find happiness, not to endure hardships. Besides, with me here, she doesn’t need to go through any of that.”
What needed to be said had been said, and Mu Yichen’s stance was crystal clear.
The old man was far from satisfied, but there was nothing he could do.
This grandson was the only male descendant of the Mu family, and his business acumen was undeniable. He couldn’t let a woman come between them and ruin their relationship.
Some matters could be handled discreetly.
