You cheated, I divorced, why are you kneeling and begging me? - Chapter 15
“I’m sorry, President Zhao, for causing you trouble.” After leaving the restaurant, Nanxi apologized to Zhao Dong.
Having collaborated with the Lin family for so many years, Zhao Dong was all too familiar with Lin Rufei’s temperament.
“It’s not your fault. Even if you don’t provoke others, some people will come looking for trouble. You can’t just stand there and let them bully you. You did nothing wrong.”
His words touched Nanxi deeply. Zhao Dong was understanding, and it seemed future collaborations wouldn’t be too difficult.
“You’re right, President Zhao. I don’t go looking for trouble, but if anyone tries to bully me, I won’t back down!”
Zhao Dong nodded. “Lin Rufei has too many tricks up her sleeve. President Nan, you should stay vigilant.”
“I know.”
With the specific details of the appointment settled, Nanxi and Zhao Dong agreed on her start date before parting ways.
After watching Zhao Dong leave, Nanxi thought for a moment and sent a message to Mu Yichen. Since Zhao Dong was his referral, she felt she should express her gratitude. She thanked him and informed him that everything had been successfully arranged.
Just two seconds after sending the message, she received a quick reply.
“Glad to hear it went well. Head home there’s a surprise waiting for you in an hour.”
Wondering what surprise Mu Yichen had planned, Nanxi smiled to herself and made her way home.
Clad in oil-stained clothes, Lin Rufei grumbled and cursed as she stepped out of the private room with Qin Xiaozhe.
Qin Xiaozhe’s face was unusually grim, his mind replaying Nanxi’s dismissive attitude toward him. He drove home in stony silence.
He had initially thought that Rufei’s engagement photo had upset Nanxi, and he had intended to give her an opportunity to reconcile by reaching out first. But before he could even approach her, she was already mingling with someone else. What did she take him for?
Observing his expression, Lin Rufei waited until they were inside before speaking, “Xiaozhe, maybe you should go talk to Nanxi. She’s only trying to provoke you into regretting your actions, even stooping to someone like that old man Zhao Dong.”
Her words ignited Qin Xiaozhe’s anger. “Why would I regret anything? She can be with whoever she wants it’s none of my business.”
He couldn’t understand why, if she wanted to provoke him and win him back so badly, she couldn’t just apologize. If she had sincerely admitted her mistake, he might have considered giving her the position of Mrs. Qin.
But instead, she chose to play games, trying to force him, a man, to lower his pride. Well, if that was the case, he saw no reason to give her another chance.
“Maybe you should reach out to her and give her one more chance?” Lin Rufei probed cautiously.
“No need.” He looked at Lin Rufei and suddenly declared, “Let’s get married.”
If Nanxi was pretending not to care and deliberately acting out to make him regret his choices, then he wanted to see just how much she would regret it when he married Lin Rufei.
He couldn’t wait to see her break down in tears.
Overwhelmed by the sudden proposal, Lin Rufei felt dizzy with joy. Covering her mouth in disbelief, she recalled that although Qin Xiaozhe had proposed before, it had only been to appease her not a genuine intention to marry. But now, it felt real, and her heart swelled with happiness. “Xiaozhe, are you serious? Do you really want to marry me?”
Qin Xiaozhe had loved Lin Rufei’s face for years. Gazing at her now, he nodded firmly. “Of course. I’ve wanted to marry you for a long time. I want all of Nancheng to know that you will be my wife.”
“Perfect, Xiao Ze, I knew it you love me the most. Back when you were with Nan Xi, it was only because she looked like me. In your heart, there has always been only me.”
Lin Rufei wrapped her arms around Qin Xiaozhe’s neck and kissed his lips passionately.
When Nanxi returned home, Mu Yichen was already there.
“So soon? Didn’t you say an hour?”
Mu Yichen stood up and walked over to Nanxi. “I wanted to see you earlier.”
His expression was gentle, and as he spoke, his deep eyes shimmered with warmth. It was clear he wasn’t joking but speaking from the heart.
Nanxi was captivated by his gaze and froze in place for a moment.
Perhaps it was because she had never experienced such sincerity before, but at that moment, she couldn’t help but feel deeply moved.
She lowered her head and smiled. “Didn’t you say you had a surprise?”
“Take a look at this.” Mu Yichen handed her his phone.
Nanxi leaned in and was instantly shocked by the message on the screen. “Qin Xiaozhe is marrying Lin Rufei in half a month?”
Nanxi knew that Qin Xiaozhe only had eyes for Lin Rufei, but she hadn’t expected him to plan their marriage so quickly.
Their divorce certificate would take another half a month to finalize. It seemed he intended to be with Lin Rufei the moment he regained his freedom.
So eager it must be true love.
“This is indeed good news.”
Nanxi had been worried that Qin Xiaozhe might cause trouble during the divorce process, but now that he was getting married, there shouldn’t be any issues.
Once they finalized the divorce, they would go their separate ways and become strangers, with no further connection.
Mu Yichen glanced at Nanxi’s expression, noticing the slight curve of her lips and the faint dimple that appeared. Seeing no trace of sadness, he relaxed, put away his phone, and continued, “The surprise I mentioned isn’t this.”
He turned around, picked up a document folder from the coffee table, and handed it to Nanxi.
Nan xi took it, opened it, and read it carefully. Her expression grew increasingly somber.
Having worked as Qin Xiaozhe’s assistant for so many years, she was aware of the financial issues at the Qin Corporation, but she hadn’t realized they were this severe.
For Mu Yichen to gather such detailed information in such a short time, he must have put in a great deal of effort.
After placing the documents back into the folder, Nanxi looked at Mu Yichen and said, “Thank you.”
Mu Yichen frowned slightly. Nanxi was still being so formal with him.
But it didn’t matter. He would take it slow. He wanted to do more for her, so she would grow accustomed to it and no longer feel the need to be so polite.
“What do you plan to do?” he asked.
“Qin Xiaozhe married me five years ago because I look like Lin Rufei. I’ve been a stand-in for all these years, wasting my youth. I can’t just let it go.”
Money she could earn it herself. But the time she had wasted on Qin Xiaozhe, she would reclaim, bit by bit.
Nanxi’s eyes shifted slightly, her gaze falling on the document folder in her hand. “On the day he marries Lin Rufei, I’ll give him a grand gift!”
Mu Yichen nodded. No matter what she did, he would support her.
However, he had one more thing to say. “Would you like to give him an even bigger gift?”
“Huh?” Nanxi was momentarily confused.
Just as she was trying to figure out what he meant, Mu Yichen knelt on one knee, took a ring out of his suit pocket, and slowly presented it to her. “Qin Xiaozhe thinks that once you leave him, no one else will want you, and your life will never be as happy as it was when you were married to him. In that case, let’s get married on the same day as them.”
He wanted Qin Xiaozhe and the entire world to see that Nanxi was the most precious, and no one had the right to mock her.
He would give her the best, protect her future, and ensure no one ever had the right to bully her again.
Nanxi stared in shock at Mu Yichen, who was proposing to her. “You don’t mind?” she asked.
She had indeed considered marrying on the same day as Qin Xiaozhe to spite him, but the moment the thought surfaced, she suppressed it. Mu Yichen was innocent, and she couldn’t be so selfish.
Yet she never expected Mu Yichen to take the initiative and propose.
“Helping you find peace and happiness is what matters most. Everything else is unimportant,” Mu Yichen said with a smile, his brilliant eyes reflecting Nanxi’s image.
A pang of emotion hit Nanxi, and tears welled up uncontrollably.
She took the ring from Mu Yichen’s hand and nodded firmly. “I do.”
