You Are the Star I Cannot Touch - Chapter 24
Chapter 24: President Gu Gets Tricked
Mu Yan shrank her neck in fear and quickly wrapped herself up. She wasn’t afraid of Gong Yutong when she was being abnormal, but she was quite scared when she was normal, only peering out with her head.
“I was wrong,” she quickly apologized, then remembered something. “How are your injuries?”
“None of your business.” She frowned. “‘Old Dog Gong,’ who taught you that?”
Mu Yan: “…”
She suddenly thought of Tang Xiaowan. She still hadn’t paid for her door and the coffee table. Where had she gone these past two days?
A knock sounded. It was Gong Yutong’s driver. “President Gong, news from the Gong family. They want you to go to Tianxiang Ju, on the eighth floor, at 8 o’clock for dinner with the Xie and Jiang families.”
Gong Yutong looked at the driver. “The Jiang family and the Xie family together? Interesting.”
“And Xie Chen,” the driver, who was also her bodyguard, naturally had a very clear understanding of the situation to avoid being questioned.
“I’m working overtime tonight.” How could she not know their intentions, and naturally, her parents’ intentions as well.
The driver’s mouth clearly twitched, then he remembered something else. “But your father’s men are waiting outside.” He almost forgot.
Gong Yutong took out her phone and dialed. “Xi Zhi, where are you?” She heard the address from the other end. “Okay, I’ll come pick you up in a bit. Come with me somewhere. Have you seen Tang Xiaowan these past two days?” Hearing Gu Xi Zhi say no, she didn’t press further. “Alright, I’m coming to get you.” She hung up, stood up, and looked at Mu Yan. “If you dare to curse me again, don’t force me to make you lie in bed for a few more days.”
Mu Yan looked at her, weakly asking, “Is it the kind where… I can’t get out of bed for a few days? Or… will you hit me?”
Gong Yutong gave a meaningful smile and then left.
The driver silently followed. His President truly isn’t human. President Gu has just been tricked.
Chi Yue didn’t quite understand what she was doing, bringing Gu Xi Zhi along. She didn’t understand. This person always went against the expected, and her thoughts were very deep. She didn’t get it. As for Tang Xiaowan, she was probably still lying unconscious in her bed.
“How are you? Feeling better?” Chi Yue immediately became much more normal after Gong Yutong left.
“I’m alright. The Jiang family, the Xie family, financial problems, Yue’er, let me think.” She remembered something else. “Are people from my family looking for me?”
“Mhm.”
“Why? Did something happen?”
“Why do you care so much? They abandoned you back then, why do you care about them now? They only remember you when something goes wrong.”
“Mhm. I need to take revenge for myself.” She needed to figure out a plan.
“I should go now.” Her place was a villa and had people managing it. She needed to go check on Tang Xiaowan. Tang Xiaowan was friends with Gong Yutong, so she couldn’t go too far.
Chi Yue’s concerns were unnecessary. Gong Yutong would not show favoritism to Tang Xiaowan, only supporting what was right, and Tang Xiaowan deserved it. As for Gu Xi Zhi, she naturally only supported her loved ones.
The moment Gu Xi Zhi walked in with Gong Yutong, she cursed Gong Yutong’s ancestors eighteen generations over, especially Gong Yutong herself. This person is simply not human. No decent person would do something like this.
If she hadn’t come, it would have been the Gong, Jiang, and Xie families. With her arrival, it became a dinner for four families. Even if the two families had intentions, they would have to restrain themselves because of her. So, this Gong Yutong was truly an awful person. Her scheming is so deep.
When they saw Gong Yutong enter, they all stood up, even the Jiang and Xie couples. After all, Gong Yutong held a special status in the entire City Z. Even as elders, they had to show respect and address her as President Gong. They hadn’t expected her to bring Gu Xi Zhi along.
They only sat down after Gong Yutong took the seat of honor.
Gong Yutong sat down, radiating a cold aura. Gu Xi Zhi wished she could put on another layer of clothes. She squeezed Gong Yutong’s hand, signaling her to tone it down. She didn’t want to freeze to death.
Gong Yutong leaned back quietly, saying nothing.
The atmosphere was exceptionally awkward, mainly because Gong Yutong’s presence was too overwhelming.
“This necklace of yours?” Shen Meng had to find a topic. She knew her daughter didn’t like jewelry. She used to buy her jewelry often, but they looked dull on her, so she stopped wearing them. Later, she found out it was because they would break easily when she fought, so she never wore them again. But today she… perhaps she didn’t put it on today. After all, she hasn’t been home for a month. “It shouldn’t be store-bought, right? It has some flaws. Someone must have made it.”
“Mhm.”
“That person must have put a lot of thought into it, and you actually like it.” She suddenly thought of Mu Yan. Could it be her? Their relationship has been off lately, and Mu Yan is her secretary, and she even slept with her… No, her daughter is normal. She can’t be led astray. Mu Yan can’t stay. “Who sent it?”
“Xi Zhi.”
Gu Xi Zhi looked at the menu. Hearing her say that, well, she’s here to take the blame. It seemed Mu Yan sent the necklace. This Gong Yutong is so ruthless, even tricking her.
“Auntie, I gave it to her to thank little Yutong for her sponsorship this time. Her standards are so high, and she’s not short on money. If it’s not made well, she won’t accept it. She only accepts and wears things made personally because they are precious.”
“That’s true. President Gu is very skillful,” as long as it wasn’t Mu Yan who gave it.
“Thank you for the compliment, Auntie.” She continued looking at the menu, ordering food. She’d bring Xiao Jin here to eat next time. It’s expensive, but that’s fine. She’d put it on Gong Yutong’s tab. Why should she trick her? She needed to get revenge.
Gong Ze spoke at this moment. “You let Mu Yan be your secretary? Didn’t you hate her?”
“She interviewed and got the job herself. If I rejected her due to personal grudges, wouldn’t outsiders think that Gong Yutong can’t separate personal from public matters, and that the dignified Gong Group lacks this kind of tolerance? Wouldn’t that give people something to gossip about?”
Gu Xi Zhi almost gave Gong Yutong a thumbs up. The words are flawless. As expected of Gong Yutong. She handed the menu to Gong Yutong.
Gong Yutong glanced at it and pushed it toward her mother. She leaned back lazily, remaining silent.
The atmosphere became quiet again. Even if Jiang Huaiye wanted to speak, he was afraid she wouldn’t bother to respond, which would cause him to lose face in front of the Xie family.
Xie Chen looked at Gong Yutong, who seemed unapproachable. It was the first time he had seen her up close. She truly was a favorite of the heavens, unimaginably beautiful.
This silence was broken by the server. After serving the dishes, they stood by the side. Tianxiang Ju was known for its service and cuisine. The dishes here were fresh, and the taste was unique.
Gong Yutong didn’t pick up her chopsticks. Everyone exchanged glances. Gong Ze frowned. She was so unwilling that she didn’t even bother to hide it.
Gu Xi Zhi was not polite. She ate the dishes she ordered. She did say she would treat her to a meal, after all. “Yu’er, this is fresh and delicious,” she said, putting some food on her plate.
Gong Yutong picked up her chopsticks and began to eat. She was actually preoccupied with her thoughts and wasn’t hungry, so she naturally didn’t notice what her father was thinking. Her father was simply overthinking it.
The meal was truly just a meal. She didn’t eat much, as she wasn’t hungry. She was bored leaning back, so she ordered a plate of shrimp and began peeling them for Gu Xi Zhi.
Gu Xi Zhi appreciated it. President Gong is just like that. She only shows favoritism to the people she cares about.
Shen Meng watched, feeling jealous. Her own daughter had never peeled shrimp for her and had always been cold to her, not even talking to her. She truly wondered if this was her own daughter. Why was she so distant? Other people’s daughters were affectionate. But her? She didn’t even come home, like a goddess, a distant flower on a high mountain. That description was truly accurate.
