You Are My Omega - Chapter 100
That evening, Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu waited for a long time, but Xu Manyue still had not returned. The television volume had been lowered to the quietest setting by Xu Shijiu, who had thoughtfully changed the channel to one that played soft, calming music. Lin Xinyi, who had been full of energy earlier and had been pulling Xu Shijiu along to watch TV with her, was now dozing off with her head resting on Xu Shijiu’s shoulder.
Xu Shijiu gently played with strands of Lin Xinyi’s hair, keeping her body completely still. Her patience was wearing thin, though. If her sister did not return soon, she was about to get a flood of phone calls from her.
It was already so late.
Thinking back, Xu Shijiu realized that other than the time before her sister and Sister Liu got married—when they were secretly dating and hiding their relationship—her sister used to sneak out at night and sometimes would not come back until morning. After marriage, she occasionally returned late due to business trips or working overtime.
But now that her sister no longer managed the company and hardly ever went out, how could she still not be back by this hour?
“Mmm…” Lin Xinyi slowly stirred awake, her voice soft and sleepy.
“Don’t rub your eyes,” Xu Shijiu said gently, suddenly focusing all her attention on Lin Xinyi. She caught Lin Xinyi’s wrist just as she was about to rub her eyes and lightly patted it as a reminder. “Your hands have bacteria. You used to always remind me about that, and now you’re the one doing it all the time.”
“That’s because you’re right here beside me,” Lin Xinyi murmured softly. Her voice was still husky from sleep, making her sound even more delicate.
The strong citrus scent of Xu Shijiu’s Alpha pheromones brought Lin Xinyi a sense of peace and safety. At the same time, Xu Shijiu felt warmth and fulfillment from the Omega’s genuine trust and dependence.
For a long time, Lin Xinyi used to wake from nightmares or sudden shocks. Ever since reuniting with Xu Shijiu, that situation had slowly improved. Even so, she often still woke up feeling uneasy. But when surrounded by Xu Shijiu’s scent, all that anxiety quietly faded away.
“You’re getting more and more clingy these days,” Xu Shijiu teased with a smile.
“You don’t like it?” Lin Xinyi asked with a playful blink.
“I love it. I love it very much,” Xu Shijiu replied, placing extra emphasis on her words.
Before her pregnancy, Lin Xinyi had been very independent and strong-willed. Sometimes, Xu Shijiu even doubted whether Lin Xinyi, as an Omega, really needed her at all. But now, she would often curl up in Xu Shijiu’s arms, speak in a soft voice, shed tears easily, and lean on her without hesitation. That deep dependence made Xu Shijiu feel truly needed.
Lin Xinyi chuckled softly into her shoulder. “Just how much do you love me?”
Xu Shijiu responded with a grin. “Then how much do you love me?”
“I don’t love you…”
“Hmm?”
Before Xu Shijiu could react, Lin Xinyi suddenly leaned in and kissed her on the lips with a loud and playful smack. Xu Shijiu froze in surprise.
“I’m in love with you, Xu Shijiu.”
“…I love you too.”
Their lips drew closer once again.
Completely absorbed in their own little world, they blocked out all the noise around them. That was until Xu Manyue finally lost her patience and coughed several times so forcefully it sounded like she might cough out a lung. Only then did her voice finally reach their ears.
“Jie!” Lin Xinyi quickly sat up, and both she and Xu Shijiu pulled away from each other at once. They turned toward the sound and were stunned.
Xu Manyue was not alone. She had brought Fantuan and Liu Lingyan back with her. No one could describe the shock that Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu were feeling in that moment.
“Gugu! Xiao Gugu! Were you two about to kiss just now?!” Fantuan’s eyes were wide and sparkling. She was no longer sleepy at all and looked completely thrilled.
She had only seen these kinds of moments on television before.
Of course, if Fantuan still remembered her younger years, she would know that she had seen this exact kind of scene countless times. Like when she would wake up crying for milk, or when Mommy and Mama thought she had already fallen asleep.
“W-We were just…”
Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu had no idea what to say.
“Little kids shouldn’t ask so many questions,” Xu Manyue said while gently pinching Fantuan’s cheek. Then she turned to the person beside her and continued, “Take Fantuan upstairs to wash up. Everything should be where it used to be. Her pajamas might be too small now, so just let her wear a T-shirt for tonight. I’ll have new clothes sent over tomorrow.”
“Your clothes are still in the wardrobe. The housekeeper takes them out regularly for cleaning. You can go ahead and change without worrying about anything.”
Xu Manyue gave several warm and detailed instructions, then watched Liu Lingyan and Fantuan go upstairs. Only then did she turn to face her two younger sisters, who were staring at her so intently it was as if they were trying to burn holes through her with their eyes.
She had thought Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu would already be in bed, which was why she had walked in without thinking too much. She had not expected to have to explain anything that same night.
“Jie, you and Sister Liu…” Xu Shijiu’s voice was filled with disbelief.
If they had truly gotten back together, then that had to be the fastest reconciliation ever. Her sister had only left for one day. In just a single day, she had changed her mind, brought her partner and their daughter back home, and acted like everything was resolved. If that was really what happened, then both her sister and Sister Liu had moved incredibly quickly.
As outsiders, Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu were struggling to understand how things had progressed so fast.
“Yes. We’ve decided to start over,” Xu Manyue said with a nod, returning the bottle of quick-acting heart pills to the medicine box.
Xu Shijiu’s eyes lingered on the bottle. The one she had given her sister was brand new and unopened, but now it had clearly been used. That meant her sister had really needed the medicine.
“Who did you meet today that made you actually take the medicine? Was it someone that stressful?” Xu Shijiu asked seriously.
“…It was Yanyan’s father,” Xu Manyue answered after a moment of hesitation.
Yanyan.
It had been so long since she had called her by that name. If Liu Lingyan had been present to hear it, she would have been overjoyed.
“Sister Liu’s father?” Lin Xinyi suddenly remembered the middle-aged man she had once seen at the hospital. He had introduced himself as Sister Liu’s father but had left in a hurry after learning Xu Manyue’s identity.
At the time, Lin Xinyi had found it strange that he came so urgently and then left just as quickly. She had not realized the extent of the conflict between the Xu and Liu families in the previous generation.
“Did he give you a hard time? What did he say?” Xu Shijiu asked with concern. No wonder her sister had been so anxious that morning. By all accounts, Liu’s father was not someone who was easy to deal with.
“He didn’t make things difficult,” Xu Manyue replied as she shook her head. A respectful expression appeared in her eyes. “The Liu family’s patriarch is a wise and accomplished businessman.”
“He actually spoke to me for quite a while. He encouraged me and Yanyan to start over, telling us not to let the past dictate our future. He said we should not be bound by the grudges of the older generation. He even gave me advice…”
Xu Manyue carefully repeated everything Liu’s father had said to her. She knew her two younger sisters always worried about her relationship and her emotional wellbeing.
By explaining everything clearly, she hoped to finally put their hearts at ease.
After listening, Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu were deeply moved. The way they held hands shifted, their fingers now firmly interlocked.
“Alright, I’ve already told you everything there is to say. Now you two go back to your rooms and get some sleep,” Xu Manyue said with a helpless look as she glanced at her two younger sisters, both of whom now had visible dark circles under their eyes. She picked up the remote control and turned off the television.
“Shijiu, really. Xiaoyi is pregnant now. How could you let her stay up so late?” she scolded lightly.
“Jie, it was my idea to wait for you to come home,” Lin Xinyi quickly explained.
“…Fine. I won’t say anything more. Just go and get some rest,” Xu Manyue replied with a small smile, clearly amused by Lin Xinyi’s protectiveness.
“Then good night, Jie. You should get some rest too,” Lin Xinyi said warmly.
Xu Shijiu, being extra careful with every movement Lin Xinyi made, gently led her back to their room. Because of Lin Xinyi’s pregnancy, the two of them were now living on the ground floor, which was much safer and more convenient.
With their move, Xu Shijiu’s second-floor bedroom had been vacated. That night, Xu Manyue didn’t sleep in the same room as Liu Lingyan. Instead, she gave her own bedroom to Liu Lingyan and Fantuan and went to sleep in Xu Shijiu’s room.
Liu Lingyan accepted this arrangement. She knew they both needed some time and space to sort through their emotions.
Knock knock knock.
The soft, familiar rhythm of knocking made Xu Manyue immediately recognize who was at the door. It could only be Liu Lingyan.
Xu Manyue had been tossing and turning, unable to sleep. Her heart leapt the moment she heard the knock. She sat up with a start, jumped out of bed barefoot, and rushed to the door.
Liu Lingyan had a feeling that Xu Manyue wasn’t asleep either. When the door opened and she saw Xu Manyue standing there wide awake, it confirmed her instinct was right.
“Why aren’t you wearing slippers?” Liu Lingyan frowned as she stepped into the room and went to look for a pair. She didn’t know the exact condition of Xu Manyue’s health yet, but she knew it was best to be cautious about everything.
“I won’t catch a cold,” Xu Manyue replied. She couldn’t tell whether she felt comforted or frustrated by Liu Lingyan’s concern. That kind of tender worry always reminded her of how fragile her body had become.
“Even if you won’t catch a cold, the floor is cold. You should still wear slippers,” Liu Lingyan said as she placed the slippers in front of Xu Manyue. She looked up and motioned for her to put them on.
And so, Xu Manyue obediently stepped into them.
“Did you take your medicine?” Liu Lingyan asked, clearly still concerned.
They say all medicine has some toxicity. When Liu Lingyan had first seen the sheer number of pills Xu Manyue had to take each day, she had been shocked. Later, she asked Xu Shijiu and found out that all of it had been prescribed by top doctors as part of her recovery plan.
“I took them,” Xu Manyue replied with a nod, lying without batting an eye. The medicine box was still in her room, and she hadn’t taken any. She was afraid to knock and disturb them earlier. Truthfully, her emotions were still unsettled, and she had no idea how to face Liu Lingyan just yet.
“You’re lying,” Liu Lingyan said immediately, easily seeing through the calm and collected expression Xu Manyue was putting on.
“I really did take them,” Xu Manyue insisted, trying to sound as confident as possible. She refused to believe she would always slip up in front of Liu Lingyan, or that Liu Lingyan would always be able to see through what she thought were flawless lies.
“Really? You’re not lying to me?”
“…Alright. I didn’t take them.”
