You Are My Omega - Chapter 96
Xu Shijiu didn’t understand what Lin Xinyi’s actions meant. However, instinctively, she followed Lin Xinyi’s movements without resisting. Her eyes were filled with confusion.
“Can you feel anything?” Lin Xinyi asked softly, without looking up.
“Feel what?” Xu Shijiu asked, confused.
Breathing in the calming scent of sweet orange from Xu Shijiu’s Alpha pheromones, Lin Xinyi slowly began to feel more at ease. Then she suddenly realized her question might have made things difficult for Xu Shijiu.
“Well, of course. Right now, you probably can’t feel anything.”
After all, the baby was just over a month old. How could anything be felt at this stage?
“Lin Xinyi, what are you talking about?” Xu Shijiu couldn’t figure out what she meant. Her hand, held tightly by Lin Xinyi, was stiff. She didn’t dare move. “Is your stomach hurting?”
“No,” Lin Xinyi shook her head but didn’t know how to explain things to Xu Shijiu.
She had so many concerns. Her sister’s words had helped her let go of some of them, but that didn’t ease the nervousness she felt about speaking the truth. Before saying it out loud, she couldn’t imagine how Xu Shijiu would react.
“Then what is it?” Xu Shijiu’s voice grew more anxious. She was worried about Lin Xinyi’s health, and Lin Xinyi’s vague answers only made her more uneasy.
“I’m pregnant.” Lin Xinyi clutched tightly at the corner of Xu Shijiu’s shirt, clearly nervous.
“Pregnant…” Xu Shijiu froze.
“Pregnant? Whose baby is it?”
That question, so foolishly asked, made Lin Xinyi laugh in disbelief.
“Who else could it be?”
If it wasn’t Xu Shijiu’s, then who could it be? Did she really think Lin Xinyi was that kind of person?
“Oh…”
Xu Shijiu took a soft punch from Lin Xinyi. She stared at Lin Xinyi’s lower abdomen for a long time, then suddenly gasped and looked up into her eyes.
“What did you just say?”
“What do you think I said…” Lin Xinyi sighed and rubbed her forehead.
“You’re pregnant… from that one time? But we only did a temporary mark. How could this happen?”
“What do you mean by that?”
To Lin Xinyi, Xu Shijiu’s words sounded like she didn’t want to believe it. Like she didn’t want to take responsibility. Like she simply didn’t want the baby.
During pregnancy, emotions are easily affected. It’s easy to overthink, to cry without warning. Even Lin Xinyi wasn’t immune to this.
“I’m just telling you. That’s it. Just letting you know. I don’t mean anything else by it. I’ve said it now, Xu Shijiu, you can leave.”
The way she repeated “just” through clenched teeth made her anger obvious. Xu Shijiu was stunned, watching the Omega in her arms push her away in frustration.
“I didn’t mean it like that.”
When she saw Lin Xinyi’s tears begin to fall, Xu Shijiu finally came back to her senses. She quickly pulled the Omega into her arms, trying to comfort her.
“Then what did you mean?” Lin Xinyi asked through sobs. She didn’t want to cry, but she couldn’t control herself.
Xu Shijiu quickly wiped away her tears. “I wasn’t trying to avoid anything. I’m not abandoning the baby. Please stop thinking like that. I was just shocked, that’s all. Didn’t the textbooks say an Omega only gets pregnant from a permanent bond with an Alpha? We only did a temporary mark…”
Whatever the explanation, Xu Shijiu was clearly frightened by Lin Xinyi’s tears.
“Top-tier Omegas are different,” Lin Xinyi finally stopped struggling and quietly curled up in Xu Shijiu’s arms. “Even with a temporary bond, there’s still a high chance of pregnancy.”
“I see…” Xu Shijiu nodded. Now that Lin Xinyi had calmed down, her own thoughts started to make sense again.
“So that day you went out, you weren’t shopping. You went to the hospital, didn’t you?”
“Yes.”
Xu Shijiu was about to say something more when, all of a sudden, Lin Xinyi began to cry again.
“What’s wrong now? Are you feeling sick? Why are you crying again?”
The word “again” sounded especially sharp in Lin Xinyi’s ears.
“I’m sorry. I really don’t want to cry. I just can’t stop myself…” Lin Xinyi thought Xu Shijiu was annoyed with her. She tried hard to stop the tears, but her face turned red from holding back so much.
“Don’t do this, Lin Xinyi. I wasn’t angry. Don’t keep it all inside. Just breathe.” Xu Shijiu was frightened. Her own eyes were brimming with tears as she gently patted Lin Xinyi’s cheek. “Please listen to me. Don’t hold it in. Just breathe, okay?”
The word “listen” struck something deep in Lin Xinyi’s heart.
And she did listen.
Xu Shijiu realized that Lin Xinyi’s emotions were completely unstable now. She didn’t dare say anything more. She simply held her, gently patting her back, trying to help her calm down.
“I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere. Don’t be scared. You can trust me,” Xu Shijiu said softly.
She had some idea why Lin Xinyi’s mood was so fragile. She remembered how Sister Liu had acted during her pregnancy. It was very similar to how Lin Xinyi was behaving now. But Sister Liu had someone by her side, someone who was always patient and kind.
And Lin Xinyi…
She didn’t even have anyone to lean on. If Lin Xinyi hadn’t said anything, Xu Shijiu wouldn’t have even known she was pregnant.
As Xu Shijiu comforted her, Lin Xinyi slowly drifted off to sleep in her arms.
Just from the dark circles under her eyes, it was clear she hadn’t been sleeping well. Otherwise, how could they be so dark?
Not wanting to wake her, Xu Shijiu held the same position. She carefully stretched her arm to reach the hairdryer. Setting it to the lowest level, she dried Lin Xinyi’s still-damp hair as gently as she could.
Getting sick during pregnancy could be dangerous. Taking medication was risky, and Xu Shijiu was worried that all this stress might cause Lin Xinyi to catch a cold.
After her hair was dry, the Alpha gently carried the Omega to bed, tucked her in carefully, and wrapped her snugly in the blanket, leaving only her head exposed.
She sat there for a little while longer. Only when her legs started to go numb did she think about returning to her room.
But even in her sleep, Lin Xinyi didn’t let go.
Xu Shijiu had just stood up when she realized her shirt was still tightly gripped in Lin Xinyi’s hand.
As she gently pried her fingers open, she saw fresh tears at the corners of Lin Xinyi’s eyes.
Xu Shijiu gave in completely.
She sat back down on the floor and leaned against the bed, watching Lin Xinyi silently. The tears had stopped, but she still couldn’t help wondering if Lin Xinyi might actually be awake.
“You really…”
You’ve got me completely wrapped around your finger.
When Lin Xinyi woke up, she felt unusually happy.
There was no special reason. It was simply because the first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was Xu Shijiu.
“You’re awake?” Xu Shijiu had been up for a while, quietly sitting there and waiting for her.
“…Yes, I’m awake.” Lin Xinyi’s mind instantly replayed everything that had happened the day before. The moment she remembered how many times she had cried in front of Xu Shijiu, her face turned bright red with embarrassment.
“Wake up. Sister Liu sent a message saying breakfast is ready. She told me to wake you up to eat. It’s good for your health.”
Xu Shijiu spoke while struggling to hold back a yawn. She raised her hand and rubbed her tired eyes. After spending the entire night at Lin Xinyi’s bedside, she had barely rested. She was afraid Lin Xinyi might cry silently without her knowing, so she didn’t even get the chance to properly close her eyes.
“You… you stayed here the whole night?” Lin Xinyi looked at Xu Shijiu, worried about how exhausted she seemed.
“Yes. You kept holding onto the corner of my shirt and wouldn’t let me leave…”
The rest of the sentence—”You’d start crying the moment I walked away”—stayed in Xu Shijiu’s heart, unspoken.
“I’m sorry. I don’t know why I was like that…” Lin Xinyi quickly let go of the shirt she was still holding. Thinking back on it, she felt like she had become someone she didn’t recognize.
She had completely lost control of her emotions. Tears came without warning. Her rationality disappeared, leaving only raw, unmanageable feelings.
That wasn’t her.
Lin Xinyi had never imagined she could become that way.
“Don’t blame yourself.” Xu Shijiu looked at her seriously, her gaze gentle and steady. Before Lin Xinyi could spiral into more guilt, she added, “It’s normal for Omegas to have emotional swings during pregnancy. You’re not doing anything wrong, so please don’t put all the blame on yourself.”
If anyone was at fault, it should be her. She was the one who made the Omega pregnant in the first place.
“Xu Shijiu…” Lin Xinyi called her name, her voice uneasy and uncertain.
“I’m here.” Xu Shijiu responded immediately and pulled Lin Xinyi into her arms. After everything that happened the night before, she had developed an automatic instinct to comfort her right away.
“I’m scared…”
“What are you afraid of?”
“I’m afraid I’ll keep being like I was last night. That wasn’t me. I hated that version of myself…”
“Lin Xinyi…”
Xu Shijiu could feel how anxious and frightened the Omega was. She also knew that her own attitude had contributed to the way Lin Xinyi was feeling now.
“You still haven’t forgiven me. I don’t want you to hate me. I didn’t think I’d change like that.” Lin Xinyi clung tightly to Xu Shijiu’s back, her head lowered. She was scared that Xu Shijiu would grow tired of her.
She was probably holding back tears again.
Xu Shijiu was sure of it.
Listening to those words made her heart ache. When Sister Liu had gone through pregnancy and her emotions fluctuated, she had never said things like this to her partner. But Lin Xinyi kept apologizing to her again and again…
Even though it was the Omega who had it the hardest.
“Lin Xinyi, look at me.” Xu Shijiu gently stroked her soft, slightly wavy hair. She blinked to hold back the tears gathering in her own eyes and spoke softly.
“…I don’t want to.”
“Please. Just lift your head for a moment.”
Xu Shijiu coaxed her patiently.
“Just for a second, alright?”
Slowly, Lin Xinyi raised her head. The moment she did, she felt something warm and soft press gently against her lips.
