You Are My Omega - Chapter 95
The Xu family had always been devoted when it came to love.
Old Master Xu, despite his harsh attitude toward Xu Shijiu, never remarried after his wife passed away. Every year on her memorial day, no matter where he was, he would make sure to return home. He always carried an old, yellowed photo of her in his wallet.
Xu Shijiu’s father had also never been with another omega after losing his wife. Xu Manyue often thought it was because their father had loved her too deeply that he could never forgive the fact that she died while Shijiu survived the car accident.
As for Xu Manyue and Xu Shijiu themselves, there was no need to even say it.
By the time they returned home, Xu Shijiu had already grown impatient from waiting.
“What took you so long? You went out to buy meat, but it took you from noon until night,” she complained, clearly uneasy. Something about the whole thing didn’t sit right with her.
Xu Manyue didn’t respond directly. Instead, she pointed toward the door and said, “Since you’re here, go help carry the things from the trunk.”
Whatever doubts Xu Shijiu had were quickly pushed aside when she opened the trunk and saw it packed full.
“You call this buying meat?” she muttered, staring at the piles of clothes, shoes, supplements, and food. She grumbled as she began unloading everything, but still helped anyway.
“That’s why it took longer,” Liu Lingyan said as she followed behind. In her heart, she couldn’t help but admire Xu Manyue’s ability to plan ahead. The younger Xu might be sharp, but the elder Xu was always a step ahead.
Xu Shijiu made trip after trip, carrying the bags into the house. Each time she passed through the living room, her eyes lingered on Lin Xinyi, who sat quietly on the sofa, lost in thought.
Going shopping should have been something enjoyable, especially for an omega. But Lin Xinyi didn’t look happy at all. Instead, she seemed more down than ever.
“Big Sister,” she finally called out.
Xu Manyue, who had been keeping a subtle eye on everything, let out a quiet sigh of relief. She had been waiting for this moment.
“What is it?” she asked, pretending to be calm as she lowered her book.
“Can we talk for a minute?” Xu Shijiu gestured for her to come upstairs. Lin Xinyi was still in the living room, and she couldn’t speak freely there.
Xu Manyue followed her. This time, Xu Shijiu didn’t wait. Once the door closed behind them, she asked directly, “Where did you really go today? Lin Xinyi hasn’t been acting right since she got back.”
“You care about her?” Xu Manyue asked deliberately.
Xu Shijiu immediately saw through the question, but she was too concerned about Lin Xinyi to argue.
“Yes. I care about her.”
“Some things she needs to tell you herself,” Xu Manyue replied. She and Lin Xinyi had already agreed that this conversation should come from her.
“So where did you really go?” Xu Shijiu asked again, clearly unconvinced they had only gone shopping.
“Shijiu, don’t ask me. I’m not going to tell you,” Xu Manyue said firmly.
She wanted Shijiu to hear it directly from Lin Xinyi, not through her or Liu Lingyan. What they needed now more than anything was to have an honest conversation. And Xu Shijiu needed to know about the baby.
Unable to get anything from her sister or Liu Lingyan, Xu Shijiu spent the next few days trying to ignore Lin Xinyi’s strange mood. But in the end, she couldn’t. One night, she finally gave in and knocked on Lin Xinyi’s door.
Lin Xinyi, still drying her hair, thought it was Xu Manyue or Liu Lingyan. She opened the door while toweling off, only to freeze in place when she saw who it was.
“You… why are you here?”
Even though her sisters had reassured her, Lin Xinyi still found it hard to believe. Seeing Xu Shijiu standing at her door made her heart skip.
“I need to talk to you,” Xu Shijiu said, trying to keep her voice steady. Seeing Lin Xinyi looking pale only made her heart twist with guilt.
“Come in,” Lin Xinyi said as she stepped aside. It was only after Xu Shijiu entered the room that she suddenly became self-conscious. Her hair was still wet, and she looked like a mess. Why did she wash her hair today of all days?
“Alright,” Xu Shijiu replied as she slowly stepped inside.
Neither of them knew that from the shadows, two pairs of eyes were quietly watching them.
“She went in,” Xu Manyue whispered, finally letting out a breath of relief.
“Now they can finally talk properly,” Liu Lingyan added. They had worked hard these past days to bring this moment about.
But as their attention shifted back to each other, they became aware of just how close they were standing.
Xu Manyue quickly straightened up and took a step back.
“Sorry. I was too forward.”
Liu Lingyan watched her retreat, smiled bitterly, and said, “I’ll go back to my room.”
These past few days, things between them had become more relaxed. They often sat together, discussing what to do about Xu Shijiu and Lin Xinyi. But now that the immediate crisis had passed, the fragile peace between them broke like thin glass.
They had both been walking on eggshells.
Liu Lingyan turned and left. She didn’t notice that after she walked away, Xu Manyue remained standing in place for a very long time.
Inside the room, Lin Xinyi said softly, “You can sit. I’ll dry my hair.”
Omegas always cared about how they looked in front of alphas. Lin Xinyi stopped wiping her hair and picked up a comb. Water dripped down her hair onto her clothes and skin, but she ignored it.
Xu Shijiu watched her quietly. Frowning, she finally couldn’t bear it anymore. She stood up and walked toward her.
“What is it?” Lin Xinyi asked nervously, watching her reflection in the mirror as Xu Shijiu approached.
“Your hair’s still wet. You’ll catch a cold,” Xu Shijiu said, her tone stiff, but the concern behind her words was clear.
“I… I was just…”
“I’ll help you.”
Xu Shijiu saw the cautious look in Lin Xinyi’s eyes, and it hurt. She picked up the cloth Lin Xinyi had set aside and gently began drying her hair.
Lin Xinyi felt the familiar care in Xu Shijiu’s touch. The warmth. The tenderness. It had been so long since she felt this. Her eyes reddened without her even realizing it.
“Did I hurt you?” Xu Shijiu saw the tears in her eyes and panicked. “Did I pull too hard? I’ll be more gentle. Don’t cry.”
She hated seeing Lin Xinyi cry more than anything.
Her complexion hadn’t been good lately, and now she had somehow made her cry on top of that.
“Xu Shijiu…” Lin Xinyi choked on her words.
Her voice trembled, and it hit Xu Shijiu straight in the heart. She looked down and saw Lin Xinyi bury her face against her stomach, arms wrapped tightly around her waist.
Her heart felt soft and aching all at once.
Xu Shijiu’s body stiffened the moment her hand touched Lin Xinyi’s belly.
She didn’t pull away. Her palm stayed right there, resting over the still-flat skin, warm and soft beneath her fingers. But it was not just skin she was feeling. It was life. Something precious. Something that hadn’t even arrived yet but was already real.
She lowered her gaze. Her lips trembled slightly, and her eyes widened as the truth finally sank in.
Lin Xinyi’s breathing was unsteady. She kept her head down, afraid to meet Xu Shijiu’s eyes, afraid of seeing something cold or distant in her expression.
“I went to the hospital with Sister Manyue and Sister Lingyan,” she said softly. Her voice was still hoarse from crying, but she forced herself to continue. “The doctor confirmed it. I’m pregnant. It’s been more than a month.”
Xu Shijiu didn’t speak for a long moment.
Her eyes never left Lin Xinyi. Slowly, she crouched down until she was level with her. One hand stayed on Lin Xinyi’s belly. The other gently reached up and brushed away the strands of hair sticking to her tear-streaked face.
“You’re really… carrying our child?” she asked, her voice trembling.
Lin Xinyi finally looked up at her, red-eyed and cautious. She nodded.
“I didn’t mean for it to happen, but I didn’t regret it either. I’ve been scared, but also happy. I didn’t know how to tell you. I was afraid you’d be angry. Afraid you’d think this was all just… a mistake.”
Xu Shijiu’s heart twisted.
“A mistake?” she repeated quietly.
She shook her head.
“No. Not for a second.”
She leaned forward, her forehead resting lightly against Lin Xinyi’s. Her voice was low, warm, and filled with emotion.
“This isn’t a mistake. You’re not a mistake. This baby… it’s a gift. I just didn’t expect it. I was afraid of so many things. But the moment you put my hand here, I felt it. I knew.”
Tears welled up in Lin Xinyi’s eyes again, but this time they weren’t from fear.
“Then you’re not angry?” she asked again, her voice small and uncertain.
Xu Shijiu smiled, gently kissing the corner of her eye.
“No. I’m not angry. I was just stupid.”
She wrapped her arms around Lin Xinyi and pulled her into a full embrace, holding her close and protectively.
“I will be here. No matter what. For you and our baby. You’re not alone anymore.”
Lin Xinyi buried her face in Xu Shijiu’s shoulder, finally letting go of the fear she had carried for so long.
She was no longer alone.
