You Are My Omega - Chapter 94
“So you knew all along, and you just didn’t tell me? Were you secretly laughing at my clumsy attempts to cover it up?”
Lin Xinyi looked frustrated. The more she thought about her so-called flawless acting in front of her sister, the more she realized it was full of holes. Embarrassed, she buried her face in her hands.
Xu Manyue didn’t know how to respond. She couldn’t exactly admit that she had nearly burst out laughing at the time.
The signs had been so obvious. No one in their right mind would believe Lin Xinyi’s excuse about getting a massage.
“Honestly, I wasn’t laughing at you,” Xu Manyue said with a completely sincere expression.
But Lin Xinyi didn’t buy it. Still humiliated, she turned her back on her sister.
“Xinyi said she’s been feeling something off with her pheromones,” Liu Lingyan explained after personally confirming that all the equipment was turned off. “And since top-level omegas have such strong fertility, she’s starting to wonder if she might be pregnant.”
“Pregnant…” Xu Manyue’s eyes widened. She could hardly believe what she was hearing.
“I’ll call my team right now and get the hospital ready,” she said as she picked up her phone.
“Make sure it’s kept discreet,” Liu Lingyan reminded her, and Xu Manyue nodded silently.
She knew how to handle this kind of situation.
Meanwhile, Xu Shijiu came out of her room and looked around the house. None of the three women who were supposed to be home were anywhere to be found. The vegetables were already prepped, so there was no need to go into the fields. Where could they have gone?
She knocked on her sister’s door, then Liu Lingyan’s room. No answer.
After hesitating for a long moment, she finally knocked on Lin Xinyi’s door. Still no response.
She didn’t need to guess. They had clearly gone out together.
“Where did you go?” Xu Shijiu asked after calling Xu Manyue.
“We just went out to get some meat. Eating vegetables every day isn’t enough,” Xu Manyue said calmly, lying without hesitation.
“Really?” Xu Shijiu sounded skeptical. “Why didn’t you take me with you?”
“Oh, come on. Do we need that many people just to buy some meat?” Xu Manyue replied with a sigh. Then, intentionally teasing, she added, “Besides, weren’t you trying to avoid Xinyi? I’m doing you a favor here.”
Xu Shijiu didn’t know how to respond to that.
“Anyway, I’m hanging up now. Just stay at home. We’ll be back soon.”
After saying that, Xu Manyue ended the call, not bothering to wait for a reply.
“Wait, I still need to…” Xu Shijiu didn’t even get to finish before the line went dead.
She stared at her phone, annoyed. Xu Manyue hadn’t even considered how she might feel being left behind. But at the moment, Xu Manyue didn’t care. She had no time to think about anything else.
The moment she saw Liu Lingyan walking out of the examination room with Lin Xinyi, she quickly rushed to them.
“What did the doctor say?” Xu Manyue asked urgently.
Lin Xinyi didn’t respond. She simply stared down at her stomach, lost in thought, as if her mind was somewhere far away.
“She’s pregnant,” Liu Lingyan said cheerfully, handing over the report. “The doctor confirmed it’s been over a month. The baby is healthy.”
“She’s pregnant…” Xu Manyue was stunned. For a moment, she didn’t even know how to react.
She had prepared herself mentally for this possibility, but hearing it confirmed still filled her with overwhelming joy and disbelief.
What surprised her more was that after the initial excitement, Lin Xinyi suddenly became very quiet.
Even in the car, she kept her head down and didn’t say a word.
“What’s wrong, Xinyi?” Liu Lingyan gently held her hand and asked with concern.
Lin Xinyi had seemed so eager to have a child. But now that it was real, why did she look so lost?
“I…” Lin Xinyi didn’t know how to put her feelings into words.
“Was the examination uncomfortable? Are you feeling car sick?” Xu Manyue asked quickly, eyes filled with worry. “Or is the baby bothering you?”
“The baby is still too small for that. There’s no movement yet,” Liu Lingyan answered before she could stop herself.
She glanced at Xu Manyue, who had clearly forgotten what she once knew so well. When Liu Lingyan had been pregnant, Xu Manyue had understood every detail about what to expect each month. She had always known when fetal movement would begin.
“I just got excited,” Xu Manyue admitted, her eyes drifting again and again to Lin Xinyi’s stomach.
She seemed to think that if she looked hard enough, she might be able to see her future niece. Of course, there was nothing to see.
She had raised Shijiu and always treated Xinyi like a little sister. Now, realizing she was going to be an aunt, it felt entirely different from when she had prepared to become a mother herself.
Liu Lingyan smiled but didn’t tease her. In fact, she quietly agreed with her.
After all, Xu Manyue had played the roles of both father and mother for so many years. Now that Xinyi and Shijiu were stepping into motherhood themselves, of course she would feel emotional.
“Sister…” Lin Xinyi said softly.
Both Xu Manyue and Liu Lingyan responded with a gentle hum. Then they waited quietly.
The driver focused on the road ahead, doing his best to breathe softly and erase his presence. This was family business.
“I don’t know what to do next…” Lin Xinyi finally said, her voice filled with confusion and anxiety.
“I kept wondering if I was pregnant. I really wanted to carry a child connected to Xu Shijiu’s blood. But now that it’s real, I don’t know how to handle it. Shijiu… she still hasn’t forgiven me. That night, I was the one who seduced her. Would she even want this baby?”
Her voice trembled.
She was afraid.
Afraid that this life, born from her own desire, would be rejected. Afraid it would become a burden to Xu Shijiu. Afraid that this would undo all the slow progress she had made in rebuilding their connection.
She was also afraid that a child growing up without a complete family would not be truly happy. She was afraid that she might not be a good mother.
Fantuan was obedient and thoughtful, but to Lin Xinyi, that kind of sensibility didn’t feel like something to be proud of.
A child that young should be mischievous, loud, and carefree. That’s what it means to grow up in happiness. But Fantuan clearly wasn’t like that.
In the beginning, Fantuan had been lively and playful. But after everything that happened between her mothers, after Xu Manyue and Liu Lingyan separated, Fantuan slowly became more reserved. She only showed a little bit of childish stubbornness when she was sick. It was then she would cry and ask for her mommy.
Growing up too early was not maturity. It was a kind of sadness.
“Xinyi, you don’t have to worry about that,” Xu Manyue said, her tone full of certainty.
“Why are you so sure?” Lin Xinyi gave a helpless smile.
“Shijiu has never truly let go of you. She called me earlier, asking where we went. I hung up on her before she could finish speaking. If I hadn’t, I’m sure the next thing she would’ve asked was what you were doing.”
“You made your feelings public. Even though she was angry that day and avoided you for several days, it wasn’t because she didn’t care. She was worried about how it might affect your career. You don’t know this, but during those days she locked herself in her room, constantly checking your data and analytics.”
“Her desk was covered with information about you. She personally contacted so many people to ask for help. You know what she’s like. She hates owing favors, and she isn’t someone who easily connects with others. Even for company meetings, she always has to rehearse her speech several times before she feels comfortable.”
“In the three years after you left, she worked day and night just to stop herself from thinking about you. She acted like she had moved on, but whenever I joked about setting her up with someone else, she always turned it down. Every time your name appeared in the news, she would go silent for a long time.”
“She still keeps her old phone. She uses a new one now, with a different number, but she couldn’t bring herself to throw the old one away.”
“She thought I didn’t notice, but I saw everything.”
Xu Manyue’s expression softened, her smile touched with pain.
“I’ve seen her sitting on the couch, holding that old phone for a long time. When I asked her what she was doing, she never answered. But I knew.”
“She was waiting for a message from you.”
No matter how much Xu Shijiu tried to hide it, Xu Manyue had raised her. They weren’t related by blood, but she still understood her better than anyone else.
“Back then, when she asked me to send you away, it wasn’t because she didn’t want you. She was trying to protect you. She was afraid that if she kept holding on, her possessiveness would end up hurting you even more.”
In the days after Lin Xinyi left, Xu Manyue would often go into Shijiu’s room at night and find her crying in her sleep, whispering the words “I’m sorry” again and again.
Eventually, Xu Manyue forced her to see a therapist. That was the only reason she stopped crying every night.
“Xinyi, you need to believe in yourself.”
“Even Yi Lu once tried to seduce Shijiu using her pheromones. At the time, Shijiu happened to be in a sensitivity period. She hadn’t taken her suppressant yet, and alphas are extremely vulnerable during that time. I got the call and rushed over. I really thought she wouldn’t be able to resist.”
“Alphas in that state are usually overwhelmed by omega pheromones. But do you know what I saw when I got there?”
“You would never guess.”
“Even the bodyguards, all professionally trained alphas, were affected. But Shijiu, who was at her weakest point, didn’t react at all. Not even her expression changed.”
“I thought something might be wrong with her. Maybe her body had become unresponsive. But after she got checked out, there was nothing wrong at all.”
“Xu Shijiu only reacts to you.”
Only you can move her, make her lose control and can make her feel.
