You Are My Omega - Chapter 93
Lin Xinyi had been anxious all night, worrying that if she really was pregnant, the fall into the field might have caused some harm. But nothing happened.
Maybe the baby was unharmed. Or maybe, she wasn’t pregnant at all.
Her assumption had been based purely on the changes in her pheromones. She had mentally prepared herself for the possibility that she was wrong, that the irregularity came from something else entirely. Still, the idea that she might not be pregnant after all, that there was no small life inside her connected to Xu Shijiu, left her feeling unexpectedly sad and empty.
Was it really all just in her head?
“What’s wrong, Xinyi? Did you hurt yourself when you fell?” Liu Lingyan walked in with a cup of ginger tea and saw Lin Xinyi sitting quietly, her hand resting on her stomach and an unmistakable sadness on her face.
It was hard to describe exactly what Liu Lingyan felt in that moment.
“Oh, I’m fine, Sister Liu,” Lin Xinyi quickly moved her hand away and shook her head.
Her strange behavior made Liu Lingyan feel uneasy. “Xinyi, if you’re feeling unwell, you have to speak up. Don’t try to push through it alone. That’s not good for your health.”
“Even though I don’t like how Xu Manyue always says omegas are physically weaker than alphas, you are a top-level omega. Your body is even more delicate than average, so you have to be extra careful.”
What Liu Lingyan feared most was that Lin Xinyi might suddenly enter her heat cycle in this remote place. If anything went wrong, there wasn’t a proper hospital nearby, and that could be dangerous.
“I know, Sister Liu. I’ll take care of myself,” Lin Xinyi said with a small smile as she took the cup from her hands.
As she watched Liu Lingyan bustle around the room, tidying up and fussing over her while firmly telling her to sit still and rest, Lin Xinyi closed her eyes slightly and let the warmth of the moment wash over her.
She really liked this feeling. Being cared for like this made her feel safe. It felt like a real home.
There was a time she didn’t consider the Xu family her home. But once she finally did, she had gone and done something so hurtful that it was no different from walking away from them.
And now she wanted to come back.
She wanted a home. But she didn’t know if Xu Shijiu would still be willing to welcome her back.
“Sister Liu, what’s the difference between a regular omega and a top-level omega?” Lin Xinyi asked suddenly.
“Why are you asking such a silly question? You should already know this,” Liu Lingyan replied with a gentle smile. She continued tidying up as she explained, “Top-level omegas have a much stronger fertility rate. Even after just one time, even if it’s only a temporary mark, pregnancy is still very likely.”
She had only meant to give a casual example.
She knew Lin Xinyi had never gone through that kind of experience, and she thought the explanation might help her understand the concept better.
“Are you saying even just once can result in pregnancy?”
The thought that Lin Xinyi had pushed aside now returned with full force. She looked down at her stomach, which hadn’t changed at all, and stared at it blankly.
Liu Lingyan was still folding clothes and didn’t notice the shift in her expression. “Yes, there’s about a seventy percent chance.”
That was an incredibly high rate. That’s why top-level omegas were so rare, and why there were strict laws in place to protect them.
“That’s also why you have to be careful, especially during your heat. You should never be alone with an alpha at that time. If anything happens, the chances go up even more.”
She explained it all calmly and openly, without hesitation.
Xu Manyue and Xu Shijiu were both alphas. Most of the Xu family were alphas too. From what she had observed, Lin Xinyi didn’t have a strong relationship with her own family. It was likely no one had ever explained these things to her. That was why Liu Lingyan felt the need to be the one to do it, so Lin Xinyi could protect herself.
“Even higher chances during heat,” Lin Xinyi whispered as her hand instinctively went back to her stomach.
So maybe it hadn’t been a mistake. Maybe she really was pregnant.
“How much higher?” she asked quietly.
That question finally made Liu Lingyan pause. She put down the clothes in her hands and turned to look at Lin Xinyi. “Xinyi, what’s going on? Why are you suddenly asking all these questions today?”
“I…”
Her hand was still resting on her stomach. Liu Lingyan had turned around too fast, leaving her no time to hide it.
Having been pregnant before, Liu Lingyan immediately understood what that gesture meant. Her brows furrowed in concern.
“Tell me the truth. Did something happen? Was there an accident?” She stepped closer, her tone urgent.
To Liu Lingyan, Lin Xinyi was like a younger sister. Even though they had been apart for three years, she had always cared about her. Whenever she had the time, she would watch Lin Xinyi’s work with Fantuan or ask her friends in the industry to keep an eye on her.
The way she was acting now, there was no way something hadn’t happened.
“Sister Liu…”
Lin Xinyi didn’t know where to begin. She wasn’t even sure if she should say anything at all.
Until now, only she and Xu Shijiu knew about this.
She didn’t know that Xu Manyue had also figured it out long ago.
“Don’t be afraid. Tell me everything,” Liu Lingyan said as she gently held Lin Xinyi’s hand.
She told her not to be afraid, but her own heart was filled with fear.
She was afraid something was seriously wrong with Lin Xinyi.
“Actually…” Lin Xinyi hesitated for a long time but finally began to speak.
For days, she had kept everything bottled up. She hadn’t been able to tell anyone about her anxiety, about the changes in her pheromones. She had no way to ask for help, no excuse to leave and get a proper checkup at a hospital.
Xu Shijiu had been avoiding her. Lin Xinyi needed to be patient, to slowly soften her heart. She couldn’t bring this to her yet.
Xu Manyue, being an alpha, would never be someone she could open up to about this either.
But with Liu Lingyan, it was different. She didn’t have to hold back.
Liu Lingyan quickly realized what was coming. She raised her hand slightly, signaling Lin Xinyi to stop talking just yet. Then she carefully moved to the only camera in the room that activated when an omega lifted the cloth cover. She turned it off, then disabled the microphone she had clipped to her.
Her movements were practiced, gentle, and precise.
“Alright then. You can speak now,” Liu Lingyan said gently.
“Sister, actually, it’s like this…” Lin Xinyi began hesitantly.
Liu Lingyan had to ask herself more than once if she was dreaming. A strange, surreal kind of dream.
She had always believed that it would take a long time for Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu to slowly work things out before they reached that point. She never expected that, without her even knowing, the two of them had already gone all the way.
Only now did she finally understand why Lin Xinyi had been so focused earlier on how high the chances were.
“You’ve felt something different about your body, haven’t you?” Liu Lingyan asked, her voice soft with concern.
The moment she realized Lin Xinyi might be pregnant, she didn’t dare make any sudden moves. With careful hands and curious eyes, she gently reached toward Lin Xinyi’s stomach.
“I feel like something’s changed with my pheromones, but I don’t really understand any of it,” Lin Xinyi admitted. “Sister, can you tell if I am or not?”
“I…” Liu Lingyan looked a little awkward. “Xinyi, I’m not a doctor. I don’t know how to check for that.”
This kind of thing was hard to say with certainty.
From the way Lin Xinyi spoke, Liu Lingyan could tell she was hoping she was pregnant. That was clear. But if she gave her false hope now and the test came back negative later, it would only make things worse.
It was true that omega pheromones often changed during pregnancy. These changes helped the alpha who had marked them sense their emotions more clearly and soothe them more effectively.
But those changes only happened when the omega wasn’t wearing pheromone-suppressing patches. And besides pregnancy, there were several other reasons why pheromones might shift.
“I’ll make an appointment at the hospital. Let me take you to get checked, alright?” Liu Lingyan pulled out her phone and began searching for nearby hospitals. “It’s always better to confirm early. What if you really are pregnant? You took a hard fall today. It could be dangerous.”
Lin Xinyi had originally planned to refuse. She was afraid that if she went to the hospital, the news might reach Xu Shijiu.
But that last sentence from Liu Lingyan made her fall silent.
“You’re right. If I really am pregnant, that fall could have hurt the baby.”
Liu Lingyan had expected her to agree. When she heard Lin Xinyi accept the plan, she immediately made the call to the hospital.
“I might need to tell Xu Manyue about this,” Liu Lingyan added after ending the call.
“Why?” Lin Xinyi asked, confused.
“Think about who you are,” Liu Lingyan explained patiently. “Yes, we can go to a local hospital, but when it comes to security and privacy, we need the Xu family’s influence. You don’t want to end up on the trending searches again right now, do you?”
“Last time, you went viral online. Shijiu was so worried about your career that she avoided you for days out of frustration.”
The mood had only just begun to thaw today. Lin Xinyi didn’t want things to freeze over again. And Liu Lingyan was right. She had considered the situation from every angle. Even though Lin Xinyi still felt conflicted, in the end, she nodded in agreement.
But what she hadn’t expected was that when they nervously went to tell the truth, when they admitted everything that had happened that night, what they received in return was a calm, almost indifferent response from Xu Manyue.
“I know,” she said, as if it was no surprise at all.
