You Are My Omega - Chapter 92
The mood had remained gloomy for several days.
Xu Shijiu had been busy handling matters related to Lin Xinyi and had no real interest in filming the so-called variety show. Whenever possible, she avoided being alone with Lin Xinyi and would find somewhere to hide. But once they had used up the vegetables they had picked, they needed to go back to the fields for more.
“Sister, Sister Liu, I can go by myself,” Lin Xinyi tried to persuade them. “Besides, it’s raining outside. Your health isn’t good, and I don’t want you catching a cold. And Sister Liu, you’ve been sneezing a lot these past few days. What if it gets worse?”
“But we can’t let you go alone,” Xu Manyue said, clearly worried. She patted her arm and added, “Don’t worry about me. I’m not as weak as you think.”
“No,” Liu Lingyan interrupted before Lin Xinyi could object.
Xu Manyue turned to look at her, helpless and confused. “Why not?”
“You should know better than anyone how your body is doing,” Liu Lingyan replied sharply, without any attempt to soften her tone.
Liu Lingyan still didn’t quite know how to face Xu Manyue. After days of struggling with her emotions, she realized that answers wouldn’t come easily. It would take time.
She and Xu Manyue needed time to figure things out. Time to think, time to feel.
“I’m fine. I’m an alpha after all. Compared to an omega, I might even be more resilient,” Xu Manyue argued. She knew Liu Lingyan only said that to make her stay home while she went with Lin Xinyi instead.
“You’re the one who’s not fine. The weather gets a little colder and you immediately catch a cold,” Xu Manyue muttered.
“Lin Xinyi,” a voice suddenly called from the stairs.
Lin Xinyi turned in surprise. “Yes?”
It was Xu Shijiu. This was the first time since their last conversation that Xu Shijiu had looked directly at her like this.
“Let’s go together,” Xu Shijiu said reluctantly.
It would definitely be awkward being alone with Lin Xinyi. But what other choice did she have? She couldn’t allow either of the two sick women to go out into the rain.
“You two stay home and rest. Take care of the house for us,” Xu Shijiu said as she grabbed a basket and headed outside. Lin Xinyi quickly followed.
The others were glad to see Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu spending more time alone. But that also meant Xu Manyue and Liu Lingyan were left with more time on their own.
Xu Manyue felt a headache coming on.
She turned to go upstairs, but just as she passed by Liu Lingyan, the omega suddenly reached out and grabbed her sleeve.
“What is it?” Xu Manyue held her breath, afraid that Liu Lingyan would notice how that simple touch had made her breathing quicken.
Liu Lingyan had acted on impulse, grabbing Xu Manyue without thinking. Now that she was being asked directly, she had no idea what to say.
“If there’s nothing else, I’m going upstairs to rest,” Xu Manyue said softly as she gently shook her arm. Her motion caused Liu Lingyan’s hand to move with it, a silent request for her to let go.
“Xu Manyue.”
“Yes?”
“It’s nothing.”
Liu Lingyan had so much she could say to Xu Manyue, but when the moment finally came, when she actually had the chance to speak, she suddenly couldn’t find the right words.
In the past, it had always been so easy. No matter what the topic, Liu Lingyan could say anything to Xu Manyue without hesitation.
After a long day, Xu Manyue would lie on the couch while Liu Lingyan rested in her arms. They used to be so close, so connected, without any barriers between them.
They would talk about all kinds of little things. After their daughter was born, most of their conversations were about her future.
They would wonder what kind of person she would grow up to be, what hobbies she might have. Would she be like Liu Lingyan and love acting? Would she want to work at Xu Entertainment? They even imagined who she might marry. Maybe an alpha. Maybe another omega. Maybe just an ordinary person.
Back then, they would laugh at themselves for having such silly conversations.
Now, those once trivial moments had become the most precious memories they shared.
“This show. You created it just to give Shijiu and Xinyi a chance, didn’t you?” Liu Lingyan spoke as Xu Manyue tried to walk away.
Xu Manyue found it strange that she would bring that up. With her intelligence, she had probably figured it out long ago.
“Yes,” Xu Manyue replied.
She didn’t care about the show itself or how much money had been invested. None of that mattered to her.
Under Shijiu’s management, Xu Entertainment was doing well. What she truly wanted was for Shijiu to take her personal life more seriously. She didn’t want her to end up full of regret later on.
Besides, hadn’t Shijiu already marked Xinyi?
Even if it was only a temporary mark, it still meant Xinyi was already one of their own.
The Xu family had always valued tradition. For generations, they had followed strict values, never accepting multiple partners or casual affairs. They believed in loyalty and commitment. So the moment Shijiu marked Xinyi, even temporarily, their bond became something far more serious.
“Then did you ever think about…”
“Think about what?”
Xu Manyue looked at Liu Lingyan. She could see the hesitation in her expression, and the uncertainty made her feel impatient. Her voice turned sharper without meaning to.
“What exactly do you want to say?”
Liu Lingyan flinched. The little courage she had left vanished with those words.
“I wasn’t going to say anything.”
“Liu Lingyan, you’ve already removed the lifelong mark. You can go find a better alpha,” Xu Manyue said quietly. “You shouldn’t keep holding yourself back.”
She pressed her hand against her chest, trying to ignore the sharp pain there. Deep inside, every part of her resisted what she was saying. Every word went against her true feelings.
“You’ve worked so hard raising Fantuan on your own. Now that she’s growing up, you should start focusing more on yourself. You deserve to be with someone who truly loves you and accepts Fantuan. That way you won’t have to carry everything alone. You’ll have someone who can be by your side.”
Liu Lingyan stared at her, stunned by what she was hearing.
“What do you mean by that?”
“I didn’t mean anything.”
“You know exactly what you’re saying, Xu Manyue.”
Liu Lingyan felt completely lost. Why would she say something like this? How could she say it so easily?
She had believed that Xu Manyue still loved her. She thought the only reason they hadn’t reconciled was because of the past, because of the mistakes they couldn’t forget. But now, Xu Manyue was asking her to find another alpha.
What was she supposed to think?
Did it mean that Xu Manyue didn’t really care about her anymore?
“Liu Lingyan, I thought I had already made myself very clear,” Xu Manyue said with a tight voice.
“It’s clear,” Liu Lingyan said with a bitter smile. “I’m sorry for bothering you.”
She should have never believed what Xu Shijiu said.
After Liu Lingyan left, Xu Manyue lost all her strength. She grabbed the front of her shirt tightly, her fingers trembling. Cold sweat broke out on her forehead. The pain in her chest felt like something was tearing her apart. If she didn’t know for sure that there was no bleeding, she would have thought an old wound had reopened.
The pained expression on her face alarmed the staff in the monitoring room. They moved into action immediately. Thankfully, the director stayed calm and took charge. Some were sent to buy medicine, others to arrange transportation. A group rushed straight to check on her.
“Watch your step.”
Even through the pain, Xu Manyue reminded the people entering her room to walk carefully.
“President Xu, are you alright? Is it chest pain? I have heart medicine here. Can you take it? Do you need to go to the hospital?” the director asked, nearly panicking.
If anything happened to her, a small-time director like him could never take responsibility for it.
“Stop making such a fuss. I’m fine,” Xu Manyue replied firmly.
But in truth, her face was so pale it looked terrifying, and her voice was so weak that if you didn’t listen carefully, you wouldn’t catch her words at all.
She was angry. Angry at her body for being this fragile. But what could she do? Her health was not going to improve. And she knew very well that her condition was the result of her own choices and actions over the years.
After taking the medicine, Xu Manyue took out her MP3 player, put on her headphones, and began listening to the Heart Sutra.
Everyone around her, who had been frantic a moment ago, fell silent at her calm reaction. Still, they didn’t dare leave. They stayed near the sofa, quietly watching over her while she sat with her eyes closed, listening to the chanting.
Her chest had just started to feel better when Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu returned. The pain came back.
But this time, it wasn’t from sadness.
It was from laughing too hard.
When the two of them had left, they looked neat and clean, properly dressed. But now they returned covered in mud. Their shirts were stained, their pants were soaked, and dirt clung everywhere. Their hair was a complete mess. It looked like the word “disaster” had followed them home.
Xu Manyue couldn’t stop herself from laughing.
“What happened to you two?” she asked, laughing so hard she had to hold her chest. “You only went to pick vegetables. What did you do, roll through the fields? Take a mud bath?”
“Sister, how can you still laugh at us?”
Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu were both red-faced, completely embarrassed.
How could they have known the fields would be so slippery in the rain? How could they have guessed that the spot they slipped into would be right next to a rice paddy?
Xu Shijiu had instinctively reached out to catch Lin Xinyi, but all she managed to do was fall in with her.
