You Are My Omega - Chapter 88
Variety shows had become a popular way for celebrities to connect with fans, increase their popularity, and stay in the spotlight. The contract Xu Manyue showed Lin Xinyi was for a romance reality show that had already been confirmed.
It was a countryside-themed romance show where participants would live a self-sufficient lifestyle. The production was handled by one of the top teams in the industry. The contract clearly stated that Xu Entertainment was the sole investor, and only artists under Xu Entertainment were allowed to participate.
Ling Mian saw the contract before Xu Shijiu did. After reading it, she looked in disbelief at Xu Manyue, who remained calm as if she had done nothing extraordinary.
Putting aside the complications, Ling Mian still doubted that Xu Shijiu would ever willingly agree to something like this.
But in the end, reality proved once again that Xu Manyue was not someone to underestimate. With subtle guidance and persistent effort, she managed to convince Xu Shijiu. Even though Xu Shijiu had initially thrown the contract down in frustration and stormed off, she eventually agreed to join.
“What did you say to her?” Ling Mian asked, full of curiosity. She was puzzled by how quickly Xu Shijiu’s attitude had changed.
Xu Manyue gave her a glance filled with mild disdain. “You’re too slow-witted.”
Ling Mian’s mouth twitched, and she stayed silent.
Xu Manyue never made plans without knowing the outcome. She understood better than anyone that Xu Shijiu had never truly let go of Lin Xinyi. All she had to do was give Xu Shijiu a reasonable excuse to join the show. Once Xu Shijiu had that justification, she could convince herself it was acceptable and agree.
“Sister, I have one condition,” Xu Shijiu suddenly said.
“What condition?” Xu Manyue did not agree immediately.
“You have to promise me first, or I won’t tell you,” Xu Shijiu insisted.
Xu Manyue looked at her younger sister, who had that look on her face that said if she didn’t agree now, she would have to deal with the consequences later. Thinking about everything related to Xu Shijiu and Lin Xinyi, she nodded despite knowing she might be walking into a trap.
“Fine, I promise.”
Xu Shijiu nodded with satisfaction. “You promised. If you go back on your word, I won’t join the show.”
Before Xu Manyue could ask what the condition was, Xu Shijiu had already hurried out. A strange feeling settled in Xu Manyue’s chest, but she couldn’t figure out what it meant.
Days passed, and when the filming officially began a month later, Xu Shijiu brought Xu Manyue along to the countryside where the show would take place. As soon as they arrived and saw the people present, Xu Manyue finally understood what Xu Shijiu’s condition had been.
“You… why are you here?” Xu Manyue stared at the Omega she never imagined she would see again. Her voice trembled from either surprise or emotion, and her words came out unevenly.
“Xiaojiu invited me.”
Unlike Xu Manyue, Liu Lingyan’s reaction was calm. When Xu Shijiu approached her, she had already explained everything. Liu Lingyan knew in advance that Xu Manyue would be there. With encouragement from their daughter and Xu Shijiu’s persistent pleading, she had finally agreed to come.
She didn’t know how to face Xu Manyue. She didn’t even know how she really felt about her anymore.
But this show was a chance for both of them.
“Sister… Sister Liu?” Lin Xinyi rushed over after finishing her schedule. When she stepped into the living room and saw Liu Lingyan and Xu Manyue sitting silently on opposite sofas, she could hardly believe her eyes.
Xu Manyue looked like she had finally been rescued. Liu Lingyan also let out a subtle breath of relief. But before they could react further, Xu Shijiu suddenly appeared and pulled Lin Xinyi away without a word.
“Xu Shijiu!” Xu Manyue called out in frustration, using her full name. She had not expected her younger sister to be so bold.
Liu Lingyan glanced around and quickly noticed the hidden cameras. She calmly reminded her, “The cameras are already set up.”
“I know,” Xu Manyue replied with a nod. She had made sure Xu Entertainment was the only investor in this project so they could control everything, including editing out anything unsuitable for broadcast.
This was the privilege of power. She could do things exactly the way she wanted.
Liu Lingyan knew very well that the entire show was created to give Xu Shijiu and Lin Xinyi a chance to spend time together. She regretted saying it aloud but didn’t take it back.
“You’re here. What about Fantuan?” Xu Manyue had been worried about her daughter the whole time.
“Auntie is taking care of her. Fantuan also said she’s okay with it,” Liu Lingyan answered gently. When it came to their daughter, she never tried to hide anything from Xu Manyue. As long as Xu Manyue asked, she would answer honestly.
“She’s just a child,” Xu Manyue said, gripping her phone tightly. Her voice was filled with worry.
“If you want to call her, then go ahead. You’re her mother. I’ve never tried to stop you from contacting her. You don’t have to worry about my feelings. Fantuan misses you. If you call her, it’ll make her happy,” Liu Lingyan said softly.
“You really don’t mind if I talk to her?” Xu Manyue’s tone was still uncertain. Her eyes were filled with guilt and hesitation.
Their divorce had not been a simple one. It had been full of betrayal and pain. Xu Manyue had destroyed the Liu family. To them, she was the enemy.
Because of that, she had never dared to reach out to her daughter without Liu Lingyan’s knowledge. She was afraid it would only deepen Liu Lingyan’s resentment. Sometimes she would secretly visit Fantuan’s school from a distance. Those moments already felt like a rare blessing.
“The past belongs to our generation. Fantuan knows nothing about it. To her, you are her mother, and no one can take your place,” Liu Lingyan said. She didn’t answer the question directly, but her meaning was clear.
Xu Manyue opened her phone and scrolled through her contacts. But in the end, she didn’t make the call.
Liu Lingyan saw the change in her expression and bit her lip to stop herself from asking what was wrong.
Xu Manyue slowly placed the phone on the table. She leaned back into the sofa and rubbed her temples, her gaze lowered and full of inner turmoil.
Fantuan was doing well. She had Liu Lingyan’s full love and attention. She was thoughtful and kind. Liu Lingyan herself had a stable and peaceful life now. Maybe she wasn’t chasing a career like before, but with a daughter by her side, her world had shifted in the right direction.
They were both living well now.
Xu Manyue understood everything.
So why should she force herself back into their lives?
Every time Liu Lingyan saw her, wouldn’t she be reminded of the mother and younger brother she had lost because of Xu Manyue’s actions?
Xu Shijiu had been hoping that her sister and Liu Lingyan might still have a chance. She kept trying to create opportunities for the two of them to be alone together. That was why, the moment Lin Xinyi arrived, Xu Shijiu immediately pulled her upstairs.
Lin Xinyi followed Xu Shijiu without hesitation. She glanced several times at the hand gently holding her wrist, her heart fluttering with warmth.
She hadn’t expected to share such close contact with Xu Shijiu the moment she arrived.
Xu Shijiu led Lin Xinyi directly to her room. She had deliberately left Liu Lingyan and Xu Manyue downstairs alone. This also meant she needed to explain several things to Lin Xinyi in private.
Normally, it would have been the staff’s job to introduce everything. But Xu Manyue had sent them away after they finished setting up the cameras, using the excuse that official filming hadn’t started yet.
“This is your room. The door lock is custom-made, and your fingerprint has already been recorded. Only you can unlock it. All the furnishings inside have been inspected by professionals to ensure everything is safe.”
Xu Shijiu kept her eyes on the door, not daring to look at Lin Xinyi directly. Just being near her like this was enough to stir memories of that night.
It had been a month since then. The temporary mark should have faded by now, but Xu Shijiu kept feeling like Lin Xinyi’s scent had changed. She told herself it was probably just her imagination.
“I understand,” Lin Xinyi replied with a soft nod, her eyes scanning Xu Shijiu’s professional outfit. She perked up slightly and asked, “Since you and Sister are both here, what about Xu Corporation?”
“Grandfather is handling it,” Xu Shijiu answered without hiding anything. It was something the company staff would find out soon enough anyway.
“Your grandfather?” Lin Xinyi wondered if she had heard wrong.
“He volunteered to act as the temporary CEO,” Xu Shijiu said, thinking about the way the old man had stormed into the office demanding she step aside. It was almost amusing. He was already so old, and yet still so aggressive. She had wanted to ask him why he was bothering.
After all, by blood, she was not a real Xu.
No matter how well she managed Xu Entertainment, her grandfather would never truly be satisfied.
“Then why did you agree?” Lin Xinyi had been worried, but seeing Xu Shijiu’s calm and confident demeanor put her at ease. It was obvious she had thought this through.
“He’s old. Times are changing too fast for him. In just a few days, his body won’t be able to take the pressure. He’s already handed the important matters to reliable people. Xu Entertainment doesn’t keep dead weight.”
Xu Shijiu was straightforward. The old man was already half a step into the grave. Although Xu Manyue was angry about how their grandfather treated Xu Shijiu, she couldn’t deny that he had raised her. For that reason, she would still respect him within reasonable limits.
Xu Entertainment had many capable people. Xu Shijiu had always used work to numb herself, to keep her thoughts away from Lin Xinyi. That was why she constantly kept herself exhausted and busy.
“You should rest,” Xu Shijiu said gently.
The manager had told her that Lin Xinyi had rushed over right after finishing a schedule. After several hours on a plane, she must be tired.
“I…” Lin Xinyi started to speak but hesitated.
“What is it?” Xu Shijiu asked, noticing her pause.
“It’s nothing. I’ll go rest now,” Lin Xinyi shook her head. She waited until Xu Shijiu walked away, then placed a hand gently on her lower abdomen. Her expression turned complicated and uncertain.
She wasn’t sure if her suspicion might actually be true.
