You Are My Omega - Chapter 87
After being temporarily marked by an Alpha, Lin Xinyi took another inhibitor shot. The pheromone agitation from her heat period finally subsided to a level she could manage. She didn’t rush back to work immediately. Instead, she chose to rest at home for a few more days.
Though she couldn’t smell her own pheromones, Lin Xinyi could clearly feel and recognize the sweet citrus scent of Xu Shijiu’s Alpha pheromones that now lingered around her, wrapping tightly around her own scent.
She remembered what Xu Shijiu had said that day.
“We’re both adults. Since it didn’t become a permanent mark, that night doesn’t mean anything. Let’s just pretend it never happened.”
Pretend it never happened.
Lin Xinyi sighed, her heart heavy with guilt. Things were not supposed to turn out like this. Xu Shijiu had already started to soften toward her, and yet she had still gone ahead and done something so reckless.
She didn’t know if Xu Shijiu would now go back to treating her the same cold way she had when they first reunited.
The temporary mark made Lin Xinyi feel physically fine. She was ready to return to work. But emotionally and mentally, she couldn’t focus at all. She couldn’t concentrate on work, and she couldn’t bring herself to read the script in front of her.
The doorbell chimed.
Lin Xinyi opened the surveillance app on her phone. The trauma caused by her uncle and aunt had conditioned her to always check the camera before opening the door.
The moment she saw who it was, Lin Xinyi quickly got up from the sofa, barefoot, and rushed to open the door.
Standing outside was Xu Manyue, her expression serious. She held something in one hand while pointing at the damaged area around the door with the other. Her voice was filled with anger.
“Tell me. Was this the work of your family?”
Lin Xinyi’s smile froze on her face. From her sister’s words, she could tell that the investigation had already been done. She knew Xu Manyue wasn’t angry at her specifically. But seeing her sister’s unpleasant expression still made Lin Xinyi feel regretful that she hadn’t replaced the door sooner. She had made her sister worry again.
“Don’t be upset. It happened a few days ago already,” Lin Xinyi said softly, guiding her sister inside and trying to calm her down.
“How could you not tell me? When something like this happens, you should come to me right away,” Xu Manyue said, her eyes reddening with emotion. Just imagining what Lin Xinyi had gone through, being mistreated by the very people she had thought she could trust, made her furious at herself for allowing it to happen.
The Lin family had approached her with family records and a photo of Lin Xinyi’s father. Everything had seemed legitimate. After confirming the details and hearing the Lin family’s many promises, Xu Manyue had respected Lin Xinyi’s decision to return to her biological family.
She had never expected that the Lin family would turn out to be so cruel.
Lin Xinyi felt warm inside from her sister’s genuine concern. She gently reassured her, “Really, I’m okay. They didn’t hurt me, and they wouldn’t dare. Forcing an Omega is illegal. The Omega Protection Law gives me a lot of support.”
Because she was one of the rarest Omegas in the world, the government had provided her with extensive protection. The Lin family and that Alpha never dared to lay a hand on her. At most, they forced her to spend time alone with him, tried to push an engagement on her using some childhood engagement agreement. But physically, they hadn’t crossed any lines.
Lin Xinyi had never been a weak Omega who needed someone to fight her battles for her. She had handled the Lin family’s mess on her own and never even let her agent know.
Her agent worked for the Xu family. If the agent found out, they would surely report everything to Xu Manyue. That would only make her sister worry, and Xu Manyue needed rest and peace right now. Lin Xinyi didn’t want her to feel any more stress.
Even so, Xu Manyue couldn’t shake the guilt she felt. She sat down on the sofa, her mood heavy. Lin Xinyi poured a glass of warm water and placed it gently in front of her.
“Don’t think about it anymore. If they show up again, I’ll call the police right away,” Lin Xinyi said softly.
“Calling the police is the right thing to do,” Xu Manyue nodded in agreement, then gave her a look that was half-serious, half-playful. “But if they really come back, will you actually go through with it?”
Xu Manyue didn’t believe Lin Xinyi could be truly ruthless toward her own family. After all, Lin Zhilin was still part of that family. Even if Lin Xinyi had given up on the older generation, she would still worry about hurting someone she cared about.
“I will,” Lin Xinyi said quietly, nodding. But her eyes avoided her sister’s gaze.
Xu Manyue didn’t push her further. She glanced over just in time to see the edge of a mark on Lin Xinyi’s neck where her collar had shifted slightly. Her thoughts immediately changed direction.
Lin Xinyi noticed the sudden silence and looked over in confusion.
“Sis?”
Xu Manyue stared at the visible marks that became clearer and clearer the more Lin Xinyi moved. It had already been several days, yet the marks were still so obvious. She couldn’t help but imagine just how rough her younger sister must have been when she marked the Omega.
Following her sister’s gaze, Lin Xinyi looked down and immediately froze. She reached up to cover the mark in a panic. Her face turned bright red, and she lowered her head in embarrassment, not daring to meet her sister’s eyes. Her mind raced, searching for a way to explain what had happened.
She didn’t know that Xu Manyue had already figured it out. Still, she tried her best to cover up the ambiguous marks.
“Sis, it’s not what you think. This is… this is from a massage I had recently…”
It was a clumsy lie, and her nervous expression only made it worse.
Xu Manyue barely held back her laughter. Watching Lin Xinyi flounder in her own hastily made-up story, she had to work hard to keep a straight face.
She had once worried whether Lin Xinyi, who had won the Best Actress award at such a young age, was always putting on an act even in front of them. If Lin Xinyi continued to hide her true thoughts, if she kept pretending, then she would never be right for Xu Shijiu.
A relationship built on secrecy and half-truths could never truly heal.
Xu Shijiu hated lies and deception. Lin Xinyi would need to change, to prove to Xu Shijiu that she had grown, and only then would Xu Shijiu finally be able to let go of her defenses.
The day Xu Manyue found out that the two had already slept together, she had imagined them sneaking around behind her back. Their relationship seemed to have progressed so fast. But when Xu Shijiu came home looking so lost and conflicted, Xu Manyue realized she had underestimated how complicated things were.
Lin Xinyi struggled to explain herself. Xu Manyue chose not to expose the lie. It would only make things more awkward for both of them.
“Xiaoyi, how are things between you and Xiaojiu now?” Xu Manyue asked after sipping her water.
Lin Xinyi, who had just been frantically trying to explain, suddenly drooped like a wilted flower. Her expression turned gloomy.
“I… I don’t know,” she said softly.
She hadn’t dared to face Xu Shijiu since that night. She didn’t know how to handle whatever came next.
“Xiaoyi, I might have a way to give you two more time together,” Xu Manyue said calmly. She wasn’t surprised by Lin Xinyi’s answer. She had noticed how distracted Xu Shijiu had been lately. It was clear that her sister was still struggling too.
Lin Xinyi’s eyes lit up immediately. Though she didn’t say anything, the urgency and hope in her gaze said everything.
Xu Manyue did not reveal her plan right away. Instead, she said gently, “Xiaoyi, before anything else, I want to make something clear.”
“Is it true that only Xiaojiu matters to you?”
“Yes.”
“Are you willing to break your habit of hiding things?”
“Yes.”
“Are you truly willing to change for her?”
“Yes.”
“You know Xiaojiu’s emotional wounds won’t heal quickly. It will take time, patience, and persistence. Do you have that kind of patience?”
“I do, Sister. I know I was wrong, and I will do everything I can to make up for it.”
“You won’t disappoint her again, will you?”
“No, I won’t.”
Xu Manyue asked each question with sincerity and seriousness. Lin Xinyi answered every single one with equal honesty and determination. Both of them were completely serious.
A soft smile finally appeared on Xu Manyue’s face. She looked into Lin Xinyi’s eyes and spoke warmly, “I believe you.”
I just hope you won’t let me down.
When Xu Manyue returned home, it was already well after dinner. She had eaten before coming back, so she wasn’t hungry. But as soon as she stepped through the door, she saw a strange scene in the dining room.
At the table, two Alphas sat across from each other, both silent, staring straight ahead like they were in a silent standoff.
She looked at the table. The dishes were untouched, the bowls and plates still clean, and the food seemed to be completely untouched. A full set of utensils was neatly arranged in the middle. It looked like they had been waiting for her.
“Xiaojiu, Ling Mian, what exactly are you doing?” Xu Manyue asked, raising an eyebrow. She found it odd. Were they really just sitting there staring at each other? Was this supposed to be fun? They were clearly at odds again.
Xu Shijiu scowled and gave Ling Mian a sharp look before being the first to look away. “Sister, you’re back. Have you eaten yet?”
Ling Mian turned to look at Xu Manyue as well. Her eyes were filled with quiet desperation. She was genuinely hungry, but every time she reached for her chopsticks, Xu Shijiu had stopped her, insisting they wait for Xu Manyue to return. So she had to keep putting her chopsticks back down.
“I haven’t eaten yet,” Xu Manyue replied calmly.
“Then come sit down and eat with us.”
“Yes, please, Master Ye, take your seat.”
Xu Manyue picked up a piece of vegetable and ate slowly, her calm expression masking the protests from her stomach. Fortunately, Xu Shijiu didn’t seem to notice anything unusual.
As she ate, she quietly told herself that what she was about to do was necessary. It might feel unfair, and she felt a little guilty about it, but it was the only way to give Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu the time and space they needed to truly get along.
What she didn’t expect was that the plan she came up with would eventually involve more than just Lin Xinyi and Xu Shijiu. It would also pull her and Liu Lingyan into the situation.
And the person who would end up dragging them all in together was none other than the one she currently felt most guilty toward: Xu Shijiu.
