You Are My Constant Thought and Unforgettable Love - Chapter 4
Those two didn’t pick up their phones; they simply turned and ran, spreading rumors that Shen Xin had cornered them in the restroom. —Fast updates, no anti-theft—
This massive “pot” of blame came crashing down out of nowhere. Before the Dean could even track her down, a phone call from Madam Shen arrived instead.
On the other end of the line, Madam Shen spoke leisurely, “Tell me, what happened this time?”
Shen Xin was dumbfounded. “I’m sitting here properly in class; what could have possibly happened?”
“Someone said you’ve been bullying your classmates again,” Madam Shen added.
Shen Xin choked for a moment. “Then I really must be quite capable.”
“Whether you’re capable or not, I don’t know. I just hope you can behave yourself,” Madam Shen’s voice sounded as if she were on the verge of falling asleep.
Shen Xin fell silent for a long while. “What are you doing?”
“Getting a spa treatment,” Madam Shen replied.
Shen Xin: …
Fine. One is in heaven and the other is on earth; they truly are biological mother and daughter.
“Apologize to your classmate later, and I won’t pursue the matter further,” Madam Shen said.
“Fine,” Shen Xin agreed immediately, wanting nothing more than to hang up the phone quickly.
As she walked back toward the classroom, she let out a click of her tongue. Apologize? She was the one who deserved an apology.
That “Little Beauty” was nowhere to be found. Even after the bell rang, there was no sign of her. An open workbook lay flat on her desk, and her pen was tossed aside crookedly.
Shen Xin had a sudden thought: this didn’t seem like Lu Nian’s style at all. Even if she were kicked out of the classroom by a teacher, she would neatly put her things away in her drawer. She wouldn’t just leave them lying around like this.
Looking back, Lin Fei had also disappeared from her seat in the distance.
She let out a soft “oh-ho” in her mind. The two of them had skipped class together.
But the two were clearly like fire and water the type who would never associate with each other for a lifetime. What could they be doing skipping class together? Discussing dinner?
Steeling her heart, Shen Xin stood up. The teacher was currently lecturing with great fervor, and her sudden movement drew the attention of the entire class.
The teacher’s neck turned red with anger. Pointing toward the classroom door, they shouted, “If you want to stand, go stand outside! Don’t think that just because you’re new you’ll get special treatment!”
The classroom was deathly silent as dozens of people stared at Shen Xin.
The person being stared at actually broke into a grin. “Alright then.”
As her voice trailed off, she actually walked out of the classroom. However, instead of standing properly outside the door, she began to walk further and further away.
The school wasn’t large; the playground took up most of the area, and one could see everything with a single glance.
Lu Nian had been cornered in the library restroom by several girls led by Lin Fei. Her textbooks had been piled into the sink and were completely soaked with water; the handwriting on the pages had blurred into a mess, making it impossible to see the original outlines.
She pursed her lips and didn’t say a word. Her hair, which had been tied into a bun, was now completely undone and draped messily over her shoulders, clearly having been torn loose.
Lin Fei asked, “Did you go find the teacher again today?”
Lu Nian remained silent. To avoid Lin Fei, she usually hid in the library to self-study during the last period, but she hadn’t expected to be caught today.
“Have you really become a mute? Weren’t you quite the talker when you first entered the school?” Lin Fei sneered at her. With a tilt of her chin, she signaled the person behind her to hand over the mop from the corner.
The person behind her indeed handed over the mop. It had likely just been used, as water was still dripping from the bottom.
Lu Nian took a step back. Her messy hair covered most of her face, and her eyes were cast downward, her expression dark and unreadable.
“If you don’t speak, I’ll just assume you snitched to the teacher. If you dare mention what happened last time to that ‘Big Flowered Dress’…” Lin Fei sniffed the scent on the mop, made a theatrical gagging motion, and took a few more steps toward Lu Nian.
Retreating, Lu Nian eventually backed against the window. She stared down at the mop in Lin Fei’s hand, then reached back to push the window open. Looking down, she saw Shen Xin wandering around below the library.
Shen Xin found her without any effort. As soon as she looked up, she saw the Little Beauty leaning against the window. The girl’s expression was cold and indifferent, her hair disheveled by the wind, looking as fragile as a small flower.
Shen Xin froze for a split second. Sensing something was wrong, she sprinted into the building.
By the time Shen Xin kicked open the restroom door, Lu Nian had just snatched the mop from Lin Fei’s hand.
The water from the mop flew in a perfect arc, landing squarely on Lin Fei’s face. The person who had just been faking a gag now couldn’t hold it back anymore; she crouched down and began to vomit for real.
The group of followers behind her looked at each other in confusion, then, with contorted faces, they lunged forward to grab Lu Nian’s hair, their legs beginning to kick out as well.
Shen Xin’s face turned cold as she watched the Little Beauty being pulled and dragged so pathetically. Even though her hair was a complete mess, her expression remained incredibly faint. She looked somewhat gloomy, but one couldn’t quite say she was angry.
She didn’t know how to speak up, she didn’t know how to call for help, and she didn’t even know how to get angry. What a fool!
Shen Xin felt an inexplicable pang of pity. With a cold face, she said, “Why didn’t you call me if there was a fight going on?”
The group froze mid-action and turned to look at the person by the door. Every single one of them instantly didn’t dare to make a sound.
After finishing her bout of vomiting, Lin Fei’s face was a shade of blue and black.
Shen Xin continued, “We’re all classmates. If there’s fun to be had, why didn’t you invite me? Is there no sense of classmate camaraderie at all?”
Gritting her teeth, Lin Fei grabbed her people and tried to run out. Her expression was fearful, and she didn’t even dare to say a harsh word. But just as she was about to run out the door, her hair was grabbed. Looking back, it was Shen Xin who had seized it.
Shen Xin grabbed her hair and pinned her against the door frame. “Weren’t you quite arrogant just now? Why don’t you keep going? A young girl like you, failing to learn anything good, just loving to bully people.”
“Let go!” Lin Fei hissed through gritted teeth.
Shen Xin laughed. “How did you grab her just now? I’m going to grab you back the same way for her.”
By the window, Lu Nian let go, and the mop fell to the floor with a “thud.” She breathed slowly, her eyes rimmed with red. It was hard to tell if she was aggrieved or simply angry.
She looked toward the person at the door, seeing that person using her height advantage to pin Lin Fei down so she couldn’t move. Lin Fei was red-faced with rage, yet the other girl was smiling leisurely, looking completely in control.
Shen Xin raised her knee and gave her an experimental, neither-too-hard-nor-too-soft kick. “I saw you kick her just now.”
Lin Fei said nothing. She had indeed kicked her.
After the kick, Shen Xin suddenly remembered Madam Shen telling her on the phone earlier to apologize to her classmate. So, out of the blue, she asked, “My strike seemed a bit heavy. Did I hurt you?”
Lin Fei gritted her teeth and remained silent.
Shen Xin then added, “My apologies. First time is awkward, second time is familiar. Next time my strike will be faster and more precise.”
Having said that, she let go. Lin Fei didn’t dare linger, grabbing her followers and bolting away.
Seeing them vanish, Shen Xin let out a sigh of relief. For the first time, she felt that the “School Bully” identity was actually quite useful.
Lu Nian was clutching her neck while looking at her. She was a thin girl; although she was backlit, she was still so white she looked like a piece of fresh tofu. Her sleeves were pushed up to her elbows, and several scratch marks on her forearms were a stark, eye-catching red.
Shen Xin walked over and asked, “What’s wrong with your neck?”
Lu Nian didn’t speak. Although there was no expression on her face, when Shen Xin reached out to take her hand, she flinched reflexively. Her whole body leaned back in a posture of resistance.
Shen Xin froze for a moment and quickly let go. “I didn’t mean anything by it; I just wanted to see what happened to your neck.”
Lu Nian lifted her gaze, and only then did she slowly lower her hand. Several scratch marks underneath were strikingly prominent, clearly having been scratched until they bled. One after another, the surrounding skin was also flushed deep red.
“Are you stupid?” Shen Xin pulled her toward the exit in a hurried manner, asking as she went, “Where is the infirmary?”
Lu Nian didn’t answer. She was pulled along for a few stumbling steps but suddenly stopped by the sink. She began to pull the soaked books out of the basin one by one, carefully flipping through them. Unfortunately, the notes on them were already a blurred mess.
Shen Xin couldn’t budge her. Looking back, she saw the girl looking down, pinching the soggy pages with trembling eyelashes. The darker her hair looked, the paler her face appeared, making her look pitiably miserable.
Shen Xin knew at a glance that these books were ruined. Even if they were dried out, the pages would stick together.
“Forget about them. Ask the teacher for a new set later,” Shen Xin said.
The arc of Lu Nian’s head shake was tiny. Her neck moved slightly, the corners of her eyes as red as if she had applied eyeshadow. Her fingers pinching the pages were thin and white, looking as though they might break at any moment.
“Hey, I’ll go ask the teacher for a set. You can redo the notes later,” Shen Xin added.
Only then did Lu Nian loosen her grip on the pages and agree to walk out.
Shen Xin gripped her thin wrist, thinking to herself that this Little Beauty was truly difficult to coax.
Just as the two stepped out of the restroom, a teacher’s voice suddenly came from the other end of the corridor. The footsteps were hurried. “Stop right there! A student reported that you are all having a gang fight in here!”
Shen Xin was stunned for a moment, and even Lu Nian turned her head sharply to look.
As it turned out, before the teacher could catch up, the two of them had already vanished without a trace.
Once outside the library, Shen Xin raised the wrist she was holding and said breathlessly, “You just follow me when I pull you. Aren’t you afraid I’ll kidnap you?”
