You Are My Constant Thought and Unforgettable Love - Chapter 5
Lu Nian looked dazed, appearing both cold and pitiful. Her pursed lips parted slightly, and her pale neck moved faintly as if she wanted to speak, but she could not make a sound.
Shen Xin leaned her ear closer. “What do you want to say?”
She didn’t hear a voice, but the wrist she was holding moved slowly. The person clearly wanted to break free, yet she couldn’t muster any strength.
Lu Nian leaned back, avoiding her a bit further. Her clear, black-and-white eyes shifted, moving her gaze away from Shen Xin.
“Did I just help you?” Shen Xin asked.
Lu Nian nodded.
Shen Xin smiled. “Then is this how you treat your savior? Without even a word of thanks.”
She watched as the little beauty lowered her beautiful eyes; that gaze was empty, making it impossible to understand her thoughts.
“Forget it, speak if you want, or don’t.” Shen Xin was quite helpless and continued to lead her outside.
Being led, Lu Nian followed behind and looked up at her. Her mouth opened and closed, but not a single sound could be squeezed out from between her teeth. She frowned slightly, a trace of bewilderment suddenly appearing in her eyes, and she raised her free hand to pinch her own throat.
Shen Xin walked for a while and then turned back to look at her, just in time to see her lowering her hand from her neck. There were still a few fresh finger marks on the side of her neck.
“I have to hold you; if you don’t lead the way, how will I know where the school clinic is?” Shen Xin’s eyes flickered, but she didn’t ask about the finger marks.
She let go of her hand and tilted her chin up slightly, signaling for the other to lead the way.
The little beauty’s footsteps paused for a moment. Although she was reluctant, she still walked in front.
Shen Xin smiled. Seeing that the hair draped across the girl’s back was a mess, she reached out to touch it. Unexpectedly, Lu Nian turned her head sharply, glaring with alertness.
This jumpiness made her look exactly like a cat that was afraid of people.
Over the years, Lu Nian always had her hair pulled by Lin Fei and had developed a habit; that was why she subconsciously turned her head the moment Shen Xin touched her hair.
Shen Xin withdrew her hand after one touch, then pulled the hair tie from her own wrist and held it out to her.
Lu Nian froze for a moment, not understanding.
“For you, tie your hair up,” Shen Xin said.
Lu Nian looked down at the hair tie in Shen Xin’s hand. It was a simple style, nothing special, yet she stared at it in a daze.
“Take it,” Shen Xin urged.
Only then did Lu Nian reach out and take the simple black hair tie. With two quick movements, she bound her hair. She looked back at Shen Xin, and the cold distance on her face faded slightly.
Inside the school clinic, the teacher in the white coat looked her over back and forth and sighed, saying, “How did this happen? If the scratching had been just a bit higher, your face would have been disfigured.”
Shen Xin smiled. “Then teacher, could you please disinfect it?”
The school doctor glanced at her. “I’ve been here a long time, and I haven’t seen girls fighting and coming in for disinfection many times. You guys are really something.”
Lu Nian did not speak. When the cotton swab dipped in alcohol pressed against her neck, her eyes narrowed slightly; she was clearly in pain.
“Teacher, please be gentler,” Shen Xin couldn’t help but say.
“Why don’t you do it then?” The school doctor clicked her tongue. “Who won the fight, you or her?”
Lu Nian’s eyes were half-closed and she was biting her lower lip. She truly looked like a cat, yet she remained silent.
The school doctor poked the scratches two more times, which even Shen Xin found painful to watch. She hurried to say, “No, we didn’t fight. It was Lin Fei from Class 1 who hit her.”
Hearing this, the school doctor was not surprised. “Oh, her. She’s a problem student. She’s been bossy and overbearing for a long time and is famous for being bad in this school. You two should go talk to a teacher in a bit.”
Shen Xin gave an “oh” and silently took note of it.
While the two of them were enjoying the air conditioning in the clinic, the school forum was already in an uproar.
The new student really isn’t simple; she just fought with Lin Fei in the library.
What? They fought?
I heard it from the librarian. It was a heated fight, and Lin Fei was the one who was chased away.
Doesn’t Lin Fei know thugs outside the school? She hangs out with a group of guys and her family background is good; even the teachers don’t dare to punish her severely. Isn’t the new student afraid of being retaliated against for doing this?
Now that you say that, I’m worried about the new student. Although she’s the kind of girl who is a bit cool, she looks like she can’t take a hit, and she even smiled at me today.
The new student left the library with Lu Nian from Class 1. It’s estimated that Lin Fei was looking for trouble with Lu Nian again, and the new student acted bravely for a just cause.
For real? The new student is too kind!
The new student is truly beautiful and kind-hearted!
It took Shen Xin a long time to find the school forum. As soon as she entered, she saw this post floating on the homepage. She raised an eyebrow, and only after reading it did she realize what the students thought of her.
Pretty good at least she was a “good person.”
She turned her head to look at Lu Nian, only to see the little beauty leaning against the wall with her eyes tightly shut, as if she had fallen asleep.
Lu Nian’s mouth was slightly open. Her lips were not thin but rather plump, and the curve from the peak of her lips to the corners of her mouth was truly beautiful, like a water caltrop.
Shen Xin had a thought. The school rules forbade bringing mobile phones, but seeing how lively the forum was, many people must be bringing phones privately. This little beauty couldn’t speak, but could she not send messages?
Thinking this, she leaned toward the person beside her. Regardless of whether the other was asleep, she whispered, “Seatmate, did you bring a phone? What is your QQ number? Let’s add each other as friends?”
Lu Nian opened her eyes and looked at her. That gaze was like looking at a moron, though there was no concern in her eyes only a slight sense of disdain.
Shen Xin choked for a moment. Only then did she feel that her tone sounded like a low-life hitting on a beauty, her mouth full of…”Hey beauty, you there? You there, you there? Let’s chat?”
“No, we’re seatmates after all. Is it not okay to add each other? Besides, I’m new here and don’t understand many things,” Shen Xin blinked, squeezing out a glimmer of longing.
Lu Nian hesitated for a moment, neither nodding nor shaking her head.
“The teacher made me your seatmate, which means they entrusted me to you. You can’t just refuse to be responsible,” Shen Xin added after a thought.
The identity of a “teacher” couldn’t suppress Lu Nian at all, but as it happened, she said the latter half of the sentence, which played on Lu Nian’s temperament.
Lu Nian opened her mouth soundlessly and then glanced inconspicuously at the busy silhouette of the school doctor.
Shen Xin understood immediately. There was a teacher present, so it wasn’t convenient to take out a prohibited item.
This little beauty seemed to have a cold personality, but her heart wasn’t made of ice. With just one hook, Shen Xin had reeled her in.
After leaving the clinic, the two finally added each other as friends. One walked toward the dormitory building while the other headed toward the school gate. As Shen Xin walked, she kept looking back at Lu Nian, fearing that the one named Lin would pop out from some corner and scare this timid cat.
The friend request she sent went unaccepted for a long time. Shen Xin was anxious; she glanced at her phone while eating, and even while bathing, she wiped her hands to check the screen.
Finally, when she saw the system’s automated greeting appear, she breathed a sigh of relief. But then she didn’t know what kind of opening line would be best. After hesitating for a long time, she only managed to produce two words.
“You there?”
