You Are My Constant Thought and Unforgettable Love - Chapter 3
In the dean’s office, Shen Xin had held back from asking questions, but the moment they stepped out the door, she lowered her voice and said, “Classmate, do you have some kind of problem with me? If I’m doing something wrong, just say it straight out, and I’ll see if I want to change it.”
That little beauty turned her head, gave her a strange look, and then involuntarily quickened her pace, acting as if she had encountered some kind of stalker or thug.
Shen Xin stood there dumbfounded, as if she had lost the ability to form words.
Teacher Zeng was waiting at the door. Seeing her arrive, he waved enthusiastically, treating her like some visiting school leader, fussing over her with endless warmth and concern.
Taking advantage of the two of them talking, Lu Nian returned to her seat without a word, sitting there in a perfectly disciplined manner.
A new student inevitably had to go up to the podium for a self-introduction. Although Shen Xin was reluctant, she still honestly introduced her name though it was only her name.
Shen Xin never knew her name could cause such a stir. The moment she spoke, a group of students below began whispering, and some even had looks of terror in their eyes.
In that instant, it felt like a flashback to kindergarten, playing “The Eagle Catches the Chicks” with the little kids; she was the eagle, and the other shorties were the chicks.
Scanning the back of the room, she saw Lu Nian sitting by the window. Her left hand was resting on the windowsill, and she sat a great distance from her desk mate, looking as though they were two worlds apart.
The little beauty kept her eyes downcast. While everyone around her was whispering incessantly, she remained as quiet as if she were isolated from the world.
Beautiful, truly beautiful, Shen Xin thought to herself.
Even the way she lowered her head and eyes was beautiful. Her hair was still tied in a bun, and she wore that incredibly drab school uniform with the zipper pulled all the way to the top.
Perhaps because Shen Xin’s gaze was too blatant, the people in the front rows followed her line of sight to look back, yet even after turning around, they still couldn’t tell who she was looking at.
Consequently, the students became even more panicked, as if they had encountered some flood or fierce beast; everyone felt their safety was at risk.
Teacher Zeng stood by the door, made a few joking remarks, and walked up to the podium. “Lin Fei, move to the empty seat next to the sports representative. The new student will sit next to Lu Nian.”
Shen Xin raised an eyebrow, thinking to herself how coincidental this was. Wasn’t that “Lin Fei” the very person the woman in the flowery dress had mentioned back in the dean’s office?
Lin Fei reluctantly pulled her books out of the desk. When she stood up, she shot Lu Nian a vicious, extremely unfriendly glare.
Shen Xin suddenly understood why the little beauty had gone to find the teacher it turned out she was being bullied.
The circle of people sitting around Lin Fei acted like sycophants, helping her carry her books, almost bowing and scraping in their eagerness to please her.
Shen Xin found the scene somewhat interesting. Carrying her bag, she walked over and said to Lin Fei, “Classmate, let me help you.”
As soon as she spoke, the boy next to Lin Fei who was helping carry books was startled. The books in his arms crashed to the floor, and the classroom fell into a dead silence.
The person who dropped the books didn’t dare make a sound. The previously ferocious Lin Fei didn’t dare give Shen Xin any dirty looks either. The person sitting across the aisle froze for a long time before quickly bending over to pick up the books from the floor, even looking up to give Shen Xin a forced smile.
Shen Xin looked down at him and realized the smile was a bit strained.
She felt the atmosphere in this classroom was strange, but for a moment, she couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was wrong.
During class, Lu Nian remained very quiet, listening intently and taking notes diligently, looking every bit the model student.
Shen Xin grew sleepy listening to the lecture, so she turned her head to the other side and watched Lu Nian while yawning. She watched the little beauty frown as she wrote; even though it was a mundane sight, it felt like someone was knocking on the door of her heart… a heavy, rhythmic pounding.
This person was so beautiful and clean it was almost excessive; she sat right at the center of Shen Xin’s heart. Having considered herself “straight” for over a decade, Shen Xin felt for the first time that her orientation was being bent.
“Hey, let me ask you a question.” Shen Xin couldn’t help but lean over, propping her book up to hide her moving mouth from the teacher.
The little beauty’s hand stopped mid-note, and she turned her head to look at her.
Shen Xin smiled and whispered, “Is it that you actually can’t speak, or you just don’t want to talk to me?”
Lu Nian didn’t answer.
Shen Xin continued, “If you really can’t speak, blink your left eye. If you just don’t want to talk to me, blink your right eye.”
After she finished speaking, Lu Nian closed both eyes at once and then reopened them.
Shen Xin was stunned, wondering if she hadn’t made herself clear. Why did she blink both?
The next moment, her pale and slender desk mate suddenly stood up, causing the teacher on the podium to stumble back a step.
The teacher gasped, pointed at the door, and said, “Why is it you again? Go stand outside!”
Lu Nian actually went out. Before leaving, she took her book and pen, and gave Shen Xin a cold, expressionless glance.
Shen Xin was flabbergasted, thinking to herself that this little beauty was truly a ruthless character.
A snicker echoed in the classroom. The short-haired girl named Lin Fei looked toward the person outside the window provocatively.
This laughter wasn’t loud, but it was enough to catch Shen Xin’s attention. She turned her head to look that way, only to see that the person who had been acting smug a moment ago immediately lowered her head upon meeting Shen Xin’s gaze. Her shoulders even hunched up as she gripped her pen and began doodling aimlessly on her book, acting as timid as an ostrich.
Shen Xin felt utterly bewildered. She tapped the shoulder of the person in front of her and asked, “Classmate, do I look like Guan Yu?”
The person trembled all over, turned around, and said tremulously, “You do…”
Shen Xin’s face darkened significantly.
“No, no, you don’t!” The person in front immediately changed their tune.
They say the best way to bond during middle school is to agree to go to the restroom together after class. Shen Xin stared at the clock on the wall, and seeing the bell was about to ring, she leaned out to look at the person outside the window and asked, “Want to go to the restroom together?”
Lu Nian was still taking notes; perhaps because she was standing, her writing was a bit slower. She kept her eyes fixed on the book in her hand, her slender wrist moving slightly.
“Are you going or not?” Shen Xin asked again with a bit of patience.
Lu Nian finally gave a reaction, shaking her head expressionlessly.
Shen Xin had no choice but to give up. However, since she had already asked, it would be weird to sit still at her desk after the bell rang, so she slowly walked toward the corner of the hallway.
While she was getting her phone out in the stall, she suddenly heard people talking outside, and they were actually gossiping about her.
“I heard your class has a newcomer?”
“Yeah, it’s already the second year of high school, and there’s actually a transfer student.”
“She must have gotten into trouble to end up here.”
“She dresses well, so her family must be quite rich. She doesn’t look as fierce as the rumors say.”
“Time reveals a person’s heart. Wasn’t that Lin Fei in your class pretty nice at first, too?”
“Don’t even mention it; even Lin Fei is scared of her.”
“The new student’s last name is Shen, right? I heard she’s a great fighter. I caught a glimpse of her from a distance; she’s tall and thin, and she’s pretty. She doesn’t look like someone who could take on dozens of people single-handedly.”
“Yeah, she challenged Lin Fei as soon as she arrived. It looks like she wants to seize the position of the ‘Big Sister’ Boss.”
Shen Xin listened, completely stunned. If she hadn’t come to the restroom, she wouldn’t have known how the new students were spinning tales about her.
Although she had been “exiled” here by Madam Shen, it certainly wasn’t because of fighting. Call her unlearned or unprofessional if you like, but she considered herself a law-abiding citizen. Taking on dozens of people alone? Was that something she was even capable of?
Shen Xin gripped her phone awkwardly, thinking that she had merely transferred schools, yet somehow she had become a modern-day Guan Yu in the eyes of her new classmates. Had she mastered a whirlwind kick or something? Taking out dozens with one sweep?
“Lin Fei must be fuming,” the people outside continued.
“Don’t talk about her. Class is almost starting. I wanted to borrow a phone from the security guard today to call my sister.”
Shen Xin pushed the door open, handed her phone out, and slightly tilted her chin. “Do you want to use it? I’ll lend it to you.”
The two people outside looked terrified, as if they had seen a ghost.
Shen Xin: “…”
Fine. It looked like she had no choice but to sit firmly in this “Big Sister” position.
