Yet, This Evil God Only Knows How to Draw Cards - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
All the discussions, loud and soft, came to an abrupt halt at this moment. Every deity present, regardless of their stance, focused their entire attention on the silver-haired youth, their gazes so scorching they could almost burn a hole through him.
However, faced with such scrutiny, the youth’s expression didn’t change in the slightest—not even the curve of his lips. Only the look in those demonic purple eyes was anything but kind.
He was so arrogant that he didn’t seem to hold any other deity in his sight. He looked only at Tonatiuh, looking at that golden Sun, and then narrowed his eyes as a hint of genuine sincerity finally surfaced in his smile.
“Lord Tonatiuh.” The silver-haired youth’s voice was clear and loud, like a silver vase suddenly shattering or jade beads splashing on a tray. “May I have the honor of having you preside over this naming ceremony?”
From beginning to end, Tonatiuh had never cared for the disputes or doubts of the other gods. But now, faced with the request of the child he cherished, he finally let out a sigh, unable to remain unmoved.
“My child, you don’t need to rush, and you certainly don’t need to force yourself to do something you dislike just to ‘prove’ yourself.”
The Sun promised him: “As long as I am here, no existence can step over me to bully you.”
This was a promise of the highest order.
However, faced with Tonatiuh’s blatant favoritism, Su Ye simply shook his head.
“I am not being forced, Lord Tonatiuh. This is indeed my own decision.” Su Ye flashed a smile, and the three diamond-shaped marks beneath his right eyelid seemed to glint under the sunlight. “Please, right now, in front of all these Righteous Gods, hold the naming ceremony for me.”
“With the attention of the entire Heavens, I don’t think there could be a grander naming ceremony than this.”
Hearing this, Tonatiuh felt both annoyed and amused: “Are you truly sure?”
Su Ye nodded.
He couldn’t be more sure than he was now! After all, it was thanks to the “Newbie Halo” and a massive stroke of luck that he drew the Cthugha time-limited unlock card. If he missed such a golden opportunity, even Su Ye himself didn’t know when he’d ever draw a Cthugha card again!
Under the watchful eyes of nearly all the deities in the Heavens, witnessing his power and the ritual—as long as everything went as smoothly as planned, who would dare question his status as the next “Sun” after today?
Seeing that Su Ye didn’t appear to be forcing himself, Tonatiuh chose to respect his opinion. In truth, if it weren’t for the fear of making things difficult for Su Ye, this was the fastest and most convenient way to resolve the current situation.
“Since you insist, then let the gods witness it today,” Tonatiuh said. “I will personally name you.”
The so-called “Naming” was something every newborn deity had to undergo. They would go beneath the World Tree and place their hand upon its trunk. Subsequently, the World Tree would produce brief, distinct changes based on their power, and their name would be adjudicated by the tree.
Finally, another deity would use their own power to draw the determined name out from the World Tree and bestow it upon the newborn deity. This would be the unique “Divine Name” that would accompany the god for the rest of their life.
If one could have the Sun act as the one who draws the name, it would be a supreme, unrivaled glory for any deity—whether Righteous or Evil.
However, the high-and-mighty Sun would not normally perform such a task for others.
Standing beneath the World Tree, Tonatiuh looked at the silver-haired youth before him, a trace of heartache surfacing in his eyes.
This was completely different from the naming ceremony he had previously envisioned for Su Ye.
Tonatiuh had originally wanted to prepare the grandest, most glorious, and most high-profile ceremony for Su Ye. His child should have received his name amidst flowers, blessings, and brilliant sunlight, known by everyone.
From then on, any existence mentioning his name would do so with respect and kindness. Wherever the sunlight reached, his child would receive the most noble treatment in this world.
It certainly shouldn’t be like this, where his child was forced to perform such a ritual just to prove himself amidst pressure, doubt, speculation, and malice.
Though his heart was not at peace, this was Su Ye’s important naming ceremony. Even if it wasn’t as envisioned, Tonatiuh would never allow even the slightest error.
Thus, wearing a genial smile, he asked Su Ye softly: “My child, are you ready?”
Su Ye glanced at his system panel and then said with a smile: “Yes, Lord Tonatiuh. I am ready, the ceremony can begin at any time.”
“Cthugha . In Use (2:37:22)”
“Good.” Tonatiuh guided him. “Now, place your hand upon the World Tree.”
Shuloel stood some distance away, his gaze as sharp as a hawk monitoring Su Ye’s every move, a cold smile hanging on his lips.
Nothing more than the final struggles of a desperate resistance, Shuloel thought.
No matter how much ease and dignity he displayed now, the moment his power came into contact with the World Tree, there would be nowhere left to hide.
Even the Sun could not interfere with the World Tree, because the existence of the World Tree represented the world itself—it was the final legacy left to this world by the original Creator God.
Therefore, the manifestation of Su Ye’s most fundamental power given by the World Tree would inevitably strip away all falsehoods and disguises, revealing his truest face.
Namely—Su Ye’s essence as an Evil God.
This would ultimately be a battle where victory belonged solely to him. Shuloel didn’t doubt this for a second.
And along with the establishment of Su Ye’s identity as an Evil God, Tonatiuh’s public credibility and deterrence as the Sun would surely be greatly diminished.
Thinking of this, Shuloel licked his lips restlessly, a fierce light flickering in his eyes like a hungry beast about to devour its prey.
Countless eyes were fixed on this spot, and with a relaxed smile on his face, Su Ye pressed his hand against the trunk of the World Tree.
“So,” all the gods heard the youth’s soft voice, like the ambiguous whispers between lovers, “what will my True Name be?”
His well-defined, jade-like fingertips finally touched the trunk of the World Tree, followed by his whole hand—perfectly carved like jade—pressing against it. His palm and the trunk were completely flush, leaving not a single gap.
And then—
Before the eyes of all the deities present, a mass of raging fire appeared.
Rather than calling it fire, it was more like a sphere of light possessing a terrifying temperature and brightness. Even the tips of the World Tree’s branches turned slightly scorched and yellow, curling slowly like melting glass.
Amber light, centered on the silver-haired youth, spread outward in all directions with an unimaginably rapid speed. In this moment, above and below the heavens—from the Cloud Palaces to the Evil God’s Domain, and every corner of the mortal realm—everything was enveloped in that amber light. Along with it came a rising temperature and a strange, scorching heat.
As the ones closest to the center of this explosion, these Righteous Gods who were observing the ceremony could feel much more than any other existence.
They were no longer staring at the youth himself, but at the Sun standing there with him as a vessel. This newborn sun possessed extraordinary authority and held all the light and heat of this world. Strange murmurs and low roars echoed faintly; the sounds made them tremble all over, birthing an unquenchable unease and panic in their hearts.
It was unknown which Righteous God started first. One by one, the gods began to lower their noble, proud heads, bowing halfway down. They willingly offered all their respect and loyalty toward the silver-haired youth at the center of that Sun beneath the World Tree.
“The Sun.”
“The Sun.”
Without a doubt, that was the ceaselessly rising cloud of fire, the Sun destined to hang high in the sky!
A smile of pleasant surprise appeared on Tonatiuh’s face.
This Sun of the Fifth Epoch—the most respected and unrivaled existence among thousands of gods—felt no anger at his position seemingly being challenged. On the contrary, he watched the figure of the youth who had transformed into a solar disk with almost pure joy. No one could mistake the pride and love overflowing from his eyes.
All the gods avoided the sharp radiance of the silver-haired youth; only Tonatiuh stepped forward with a smile to fulfill his next duty.
A wisp of flowery light, also golden, seeped from his fingertips. This light connected to the World Tree, and then silver-white script in a flowery font was drawn out bit by bit from the transparent trunk of the World Tree.
“It is enough, my child.” The Sun said. “Come, come to me.”
“I shall name you.”
Only then did the silver-haired youth move his hand away, and the brilliance originating from the sun that had swept across the entire world finally dissipated. With a bright smile on his face, he walked toward his guardian under the reverent gazes of the assembly of gods.
Tonatiuh cupped his face and placed a soft kiss on his brow.
“Su Yer, my child.”
“You are Su Yer, destined to become the ‘Sun’ of the Sixth Epoch.”
This naming ceremony came to a successful and grand conclusion.
The divine miracle, which could be called a massive spectacle, had receded, but it was unlikely that any human or deity would be able to erase that shocking scene from their memory anytime soon.
From this point on, no one would doubt the legitimacy of the silver-haired youth as the successor to the Sun. Even if he didn’t have golden eyes, even if his face was bewitching and his temperament crazed—so what?
He would inevitably become the incredibly brilliant and dazzling Sun. As long as the gods confirmed this point, it was enough.
“Lord Shuloel, it seems my performance has disappointed you.”
The gods who had previously gathered around Shuloel left very quickly; no one wanted to be held accountable by the current Sun, nor did they want to harbor a grudge with the next one. The collapse of a grand house happens in an instant. Shuloel stood there alone, looking quite like a stray dog.
But the youth just named “Su Yer” walked straight up to Shuloel, speaking to him with a smile, though his crystal-purple eyes seemed to be settled with frost.
Shuloel looked at him coldly.
“Su Yer, heh, Su Yer…” He had undoubtedly lost completely in this invisible struggle, but Shuloel himself—even after witnessing such a grand miracle—had still not changed his mind.
“I don’t know what kind of tricks you and Tonatiuh used to hide your little ‘tail’, but an Evil God is an Evil God. Even if you can obscure it for a moment, you will never truly touch the authority of the ‘Sun’!”
He brushed past Su Yer, leaving only a cold sneer.
“Su Yer, I hope that on the ‘Day of Divine Selection,’ you can still be this high-spirited.”
The silver-haired god left standing there did not turn around, only curling his lips.
“Cthugha . In Use (00:00:01)”
The smile on the youth’s face widened.
“Then—please keep a good watch.”
