Yet, This Evil God Only Knows How to Draw Cards - Chapter 6
Chapter 6: Day of Birth (VI)
After sending off Shuroel, the last of the uninvited guests, the immediate crises were temporarily resolved. Su Yer walked toward Tonatiuh, met with a smile that was as understanding as it was helpless.
Clearly, Tonatiuh had watched the entire scene of Su Yer provoking Shuroel without missing a beat. But since this was a case of his own “cat” going out and picking a fight, Tonatiuh adopted a double-standard strategy of turning a blind eye.
“Shuroel… well, never mind.” Tonatiuh showed a wry expression. “It is true that his attitude toward you has always been poor; it’s only natural that you wouldn’t like him. If you wish to contend with Shuroel in the future, I will not stop you, but you must prioritize your own safety.”
At this point, the [Sun], who was supposed to be impartial, paused slightly and lowered his voice: “If you find it difficult to hold your ground, just come back to me. There is no need to feel embarrassed or timid about it.”
To have the (Sun) speak up for oneself or even display such blatant favoritism was an honor that few in the world could ever hope to possess.
Su Yer understood that these were all gestures of Tonatiuh’s kindness and care, so he smiled and agreed to everything. Once Tonatiuh had finished his instructions, Su Yer brought up a certain term Shuroel had mentioned at the end of their encounter—one that had piqued his interest.
“Lord Tonatiuh,” he asked, “Do you know what the [Day of Divine Selection] is?”
Tonatiuh was stunned for a moment but reacted quickly: “The Day of Divine Selection… Shuroel mentioned that to you just now, didn’t he?”
“Come to think of it, there really isn’t much time left until this upcoming Day of Divine Selection.”
Tonatiuh beckoned Su Yer, signaling him to come to his side. Then, Tonatiuh took Su Yer’s hand and led him toward the inner depths of the Solar Palace.
Su Yer started to speak, stopped, and then hesitated again.
Wait, the hand…! Is it absolutely necessary to hold hands like this? He could walk on his own!
However, Su Yer soon lost the mind to care about such “trivialities,” because Tonatiuh began to introduce the Day of Divine Selection.
“The Day of Divine Selection is a special divine ritual that takes place every few hundred to a thousand years.”
“Once the (Day of Divine Selection) begins, all gods under the age of ten thousand will set out together for the Northern Realm. There, they will receive the blessings and gifts from the lingering spirits of the previous generation of gods.”
“Both you and Shuroel are under ten thousand years old. When this Day of Divine Selection opens, you will indeed board the same ship and spend several days in close proximity.”
The sense of crisis in Su Yer’s heart immediately began to skyrocket.
It was confirmed. That fellow Shuroel definitely had bad intentions. He was likely planning to take advantage of the trip to the Northern Realm—the window of time where Tonatiuh wouldn’t be able to provide constant protection—to strike and harm him.
This instantly instilled in Su Yer a great sense of urgency regarding the acquisition and enhancement of his own power.
And speaking of his method for increasing strength…
Su Yer opened his system panel to take a look. Whether it was Faith points, Believers, or Religious Offerings—every item was followed by a giant, glaring “0.” It was so bright it practically stung Su Yer’s eyes.
He closed the system panel with a heavy heart and looked up at his guardian: “Lord Tonatiuh, do you know how to quickly develop one’s faith and believers?”
“There is no need to address me so formally; just call me by my name.” Tonatiuh corrected Su Yer’s way of addressing him before considering the previous question. “Faith? You need not worry about that. You are destined to inherit the status of the [Sun]. One day, everything that belongs to me will become your subordinates.”
“You only need to grow up happily and safely.”
Su Yer: …No, by the time I inherit the status of the (Sun), it’ll be far too late!
Moreover, he didn’t actually have the qualification to inherit it anyway!
Faced with this situation, Su Yer could only shake his head and sigh.
What kind of overindulgent parent was Tonatiuh being…
However, things being as they were, Su Yer realized one thing: the path through Tonatiuh was likely a dead end for his goals.
If he wanted to obtain enough believers and faith points, he would have to find a way to take an unconventional path…
In short, developing believers was a matter of extreme urgency.
This was a place located in an extremely remote corner of the heavens. The terrain was rugged and perpetually shrouded in thick gray mist.
Because it was too far from the palace of the [Sun] and received almost no sunlight on ordinary days, few gods were willing to set foot here.
But for certain other gods, these flaws became rare and precious advantages.
There is nothing new under the sun. Wherever sunlight can reach and cover, it is equivalent to being under Tonatiuh’s gaze. Even if he does not intentionally check everything happening under the light, as long as Tonatiuh wishes it, he can know immediately.
A figure draped in a pitch-black cloak, with head and face completely concealed, hurried across the edge of the horizon. With a sudden flash of movement, the figure disappeared into the gray mist.
Walking along a deep, dark tunnel, the figure soon reached the end. The view ahead suddenly opened up. No one would have guessed that hidden deep within this mist and forest, where divine traces rarely reached, there actually existed such a palace.
Furthermore, this palace did not look dilapidated at all; there wasn’t even much dust, clearly indicating it was used frequently.
Upon stepping into the palace grounds, the figure strode forward while pulling off the cloak. The face revealed beneath was none other than Shuroel.
Shuroel walked quickly to the main hall of the palace and sat in the only empty seat.
One could see a huge round table placed in the main hall, with six seats arranged in total, all of which were now occupied.
A light laugh, like mist or smoke, came from his left side: “You’re late, Dark Sun.”
“You don’t need to tell me that.” Shuroel’s tone was not pleasant.
“Fine, fine, it’s my big mouth.” The owner of the voice wasn’t angry, simply announcing cheerfully: “Well then, since everyone is here, we can begin the theme of today’s meeting.”
“Regarding how to kill… our esteemed (Sun).”
