Yet, This Evil God Only Knows How to Draw Cards - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
The reason Tonatiuh brought Su Ye along was, on one hand, because he had the confidence to protect him. On the other hand, with the previous incident where Shuloel had snuck into his divine palace and stolen Su Ye’s egg, Tonatiuh was honestly a bit neurotic. It felt as though the moment Su Ye left his sight, he might suffer some kind of persecution.
To be honest, there was a trace of regret in Tonatiuh’s heart.
If Su Ye could have maintained that kitten-sized mythological creature form, he could have carried him around at all times; that way, he wouldn’t have to worry about anything going wrong.
Unfortunately, Su Ye clearly preferred to walk the world in human form, so Tonatiuh could only tuck that thought away in the depths of his heart.
Sigh, children always have their own ideas. As a guardian, he was unwilling to force Su Ye to do anything against his will, so he could only watch over him more closely.
When they saw Tonatiuh leading Su Ye out of the Sun Palace, the vast majority of the gods still didn’t dare look directly at the majesty of the Sun. They lowered their eyes to varying degrees, avoiding Tonatiuh’s gaze, as if by doing so they could self-hypnotize into believing they hadn’t committed this act bordering on betrayal, and thus wouldn’t be held accountable.
But their fear and dread didn’t mean Shuloel felt the same. He watched Tonatiuh appear—noting especially that the other hadn’t forgotten to hold Su Ye’s hand—and immediately flashed a smile full of malice.
The next Sun?
What a joke to tell the whole world!
Right now, he would expose that Evil God’s ridiculous and clumsy disguise. The position of the next Sun must, and could only, be his!
Su Ye didn’t know what kind of schemes were running through Shuloel’s mind, but that didn’t stop him from noticing the extremely unkind, scrutinizing gaze coming from him. Tonatiuh noticed it as well. His gaze turned cold as he took a step forward, shielding Su Ye behind him.
“Shuloel, it seems the previous punishment failed to teach you a lesson.” Tonatiuh’s voice sounded very calm, carrying no emotion.
But every god standing opposite him felt the awe-inspiring authority of the Sun at that moment. A terrifying pressure descended upon them, making it nearly impossible for them to maintain a standing posture, tempting them to kneel in worship.
Was it really the right choice to come with Shuloel today to pressure Tonatiuh? Quite a few gods among them had already begun to contemplate this question.
At this time, the gods belonging to Tonatiuh—those completely loyal to him—had also arrived upon hearing the news. Both sides tacitly used an invisible line as a boundary, standing clearly behind their respective masters as if a war were about to break out.
Under Tonatiuh’s authority, Shuloel was one of the few on the opposite side who could still withstand the pressure and stand freely. However, he was clearly not at ease. Pea-sized beads of sweat could be seen rolling quietly down his temples, eventually disappearing into his hair and collar.
Even so, a trace of a delighted smile appeared on Shuloel’s face.
Tonatiuh can only be smug for this one moment, he thought.
Once he exposed the identity of the silver-haired Evil God following behind him, he wanted to see what kind of expression Tonatiuh would have!
And by that time, no matter how reluctant Tonatiuh might be, the divine status of the Sun was destined to be his.
Thinking of this, even the pressure weighing on his body didn’t seem so unbearable.
Su Ye’s eyelid twitched.
For some reason, when he saw Shuloel’s gaze land on him, a very bad premonition arose in his heart. Sure enough, in the next second, Shuloel’s voice—unveiling his malice and targeting—rang out, clearly audible to every god present.
“Lord Tonatiuh, I didn’t intend to come and seek your displeasure. I simply cannot bear to see someone overstepping their bounds and staying in a seat of honor that doesn’t belong to them. That is why I have come in this manner.”
His gaze was like a cold snake landing on Su Ye. The targeting and malice within it were so full they almost overflowed, making Su Ye subconsciously shiver.
That bad premonition grew even stronger in his heart.
This feeling soon hit home, because in the next second, Shuloel said: “The one you have brought by your side to nurture and cherish is not the next ‘Sun’—he isn’t even a Righteous God, but an Evil God who should not appear above the heavens!”
The moment his words fell, an uproar broke out among the gods.
Although there was no sharp, essential distinction between Righteous and Evil gods, their respective divine offices naturally placed them in irreconcilable opposition. Over time, deep-seated feuds and conflicts had developed between the two groups.
Even though Evil Gods also followed the will of the Sun and were led and driven by Him, they usually didn’t associate with Righteous Gods. Their gathering place was the “Evil God’s Domain” beneath the earth, and the two sides rarely met.
And if they did run into each other…
Treating each other with mutual respect was already the best possible outcome. Iit was more likely they would come to blows. It wasn’t unheard of for a deity to fall during such an encounter.
As for an existence as noble and radiant as the Sun, it was of course even more impossible for Him to be related to an Evil God.
Therefore, once Shuloel blurted out that Su Ye was an Evil God, Su Ye almost immediately noticed that many of the gazes falling on him were now tinged with hostility. His senses, enhanced after becoming a god, could clearly capture the discussions from the gods following Shuloel, who made no effort to hide them.
“Speaking of which, this Little Highness’s eyes aren’t even golden, and his hair color is so cold and wicked; he really doesn’t look like what the ‘Sun’ should be.”
“Perhaps Lord Tonatiuh misjudged at the beginning. If he were the true ‘Sun,’ how could he have gone so many years without being born? It must be because he was an Evil God all along, so his growth was suppressed here above the heavens.”
“Thanks to Shuloel for pointing it out. Otherwise, wouldn’t we be bowing down to an Evil God and treating him as our superior… What a ridiculous thing!”
These various discussions drifted over, and the content was so logical and convincing that many gods who were absolutely loyal to Tonatiuh also began to eye Su Ye with suspicion.
If it were truly a cunning Evil God who used some means to deceive Lord Tonatiuh and trick Him out of his trust and affection, they would never let it slide!
Su Ye, who had become a target of public criticism just because of one sentence from Shuloel: “…”
If the heavens could give him a chance, he wanted to bite Shuloel to death.
Look at you being so capable! Look at you having a mouth!
Facing Su Ye’s spiteful gaze, Shuloel knew he had struck a nerve, and the smile on his face widened even further.
He pressured further: “Lord Tonatiuh, this child hasn’t been named yet, right? Since that’s the case, why not let him demonstrate his divine office and ability now before all the gods, hold the ceremony, and name him here?”
“Enough.” Tonatiuh, who had been silent, finally spoke.
His voice wasn’t particularly loud, but it instantly silenced all the gods. No matter how excitedly they had been talking just now, they were now as quiet as cicadas in winter, not daring to say another word for fear of displeasing Tonatiuh.
“Shuloel, this is the child I have chosen. No other god needs to acknowledge his status.”
“On the contrary, you have repeatedly violated the rules and acted recklessly today. You ought to be punished.”
Shuloel laughed loudly: “Lord Tonatiuh, I can accept punishment, but today I must also see with my own eyes this disgusting Evil God being kicked out from above the heavens!”
“You are the ‘Sun’! You should be the most just ‘Sun’ in this world! Please identify this nameless god’s identity and see exactly what kind of existence he is!”
“Otherwise, even you will find it hard to convince the masses, right?!”
He had effectively placed himself, Tonatiuh, and Su Ye on an extreme edge. When Su Ye’s eyes met Shuloel’s for a moment, he saw nothing but malice and mockery.
The other gods began to whisper among themselves.
If this were Tonatiuh’s prime, they naturally wouldn’t have the courage to pressure the Sun. But the current Tonatiuh was like an aging tiger; though still fierce, He had lost the overwhelming dominance of the past, so much so that these gods who should have been submissive dared to provoke and test their limits.
Su Ye, the absolute protagonist of this matter, was actually receiving very little attention. All the gods’ focus was on Tonatiuh, waiting for their Sun to give an explanation and a decision.
Su Ye knew clearly that they were merely using him as a springboard, attempting to pluck that high-and-mighty Sun out of the sky.
He knew he was indeed an Evil God. And his existence would cast a shadow over the Sun and bring massive trouble to Tonatiuh.
…This was not what Su Ye wanted to see.
However, in this situation, a thought suddenly occurred to Su Ye.
Speaking of which, what exactly is my ability as an Evil God?
Su Ye tentatively searched his memory. No clues.
He tried to stir the power within his body. Nothing.
Su Ye’s pupils constricted.
What’s going on? Could it be that because I’m a slip through the cracks transmigrator and not a god actually birthed by this world, I only have the title of a god but actually have none of a god’s power?!
This discovery was like a bolt from the blue, leaving Su Ye charred on the outside and tender on the inside, his brain unable to reboot.
This… this…
This was undoubtedly the worst possible outcome, even more disastrous than being an Evil God!
Perhaps because Su Ye’s emotional fluctuations were too intense, a “Ding” sound that only Su Ye could hear echoed in his mind.
[Card Drawing System starting… Start successful.]
Just like when he first entered this world, information and cognition regarding this system were automatically understood by Su Ye.
…Due to the transmigration, he was indeed an Evil God without a divine office or ability.
To achieve balance, the Will of the World made a correction, which was the Card Drawing System now appearing in Su Ye’s mind.
The system was very simple to use: every 100 Faith Points could be exchanged for one draw in the system’s pool. The cards in the pool were divided into three categories: 1-3 star Item Cards, 2-4 star Event Cards, and 3-6 star Character Cards. The higher the star rating, the lower the drop rate.
Among these, each card was further divided into “Time-Limited Unlock” and “Permanent Unlock.” The probability of drawing a Permanent Unlock for a card was only 0.01%.
Basically, to permanently unlock a card, Su Ye first needed to draw it from the pool, and then multiply that drawn foundation by a 0.01% probability.
By the way, Su Ye’s Card Drawing System naturally had no pity mechanic.
Su Ye: “…Are you kidding me, bro? With these odds, if someone actually draws that, it really can’t be bought even with one’s life.”
When Su Ye opened the Character Card display, he was completely stunned.
From top to bottom, the names arranged neatly, while not exactly household names, were close enough to being known by everyone. Those were the numerous existences from the “Cthulhu” mythological system that existed only in literary creations in Su Ye’s previous life; now, they were turned into cards, displayed before him.
Su Ye’s throat bobbed as he swallowed hard.
What kind of power did Cthulhu-style gods possess?
There was no need to ask, the world had long ago given them the evaluation they deserved.
They were Evil Gods who transcended the universe, transcended cognition, were omnipresent, and omnipotent.
Su Ye licked his dry lips.
Like all card games, a beginner would get one free ten-pull opportunity.
“Draw.” he said hoarsely in his heart.
The card drawing interface in Su Ye’s mind truly began to glow, and the summoning circle turned slowly. When everything stopped, Su Ye saw raging flames burning continuously before his eyes; then these flames condensed together, becoming a single card that landed in his hand.
Su Ye’s result for this draw was one 4-star Character Card, one 2-star Event Card, and the remaining eight were all empty.
But none of that mattered. When Su Ye flipped over that 4-star Character Card, his breathing almost stopped for a moment.
[Cthugha . 4-Star . Time-Limited Unlock]
Cthugha.
One of the Great Old Ones who set foot on Earth in the settings, considered the symbol of “Fire” in the Cthulhu Mythos.
And people also called him—
“The Sun upon the Earth”
Su Ye gripped this card tightly.
He raised his eyes to look at Shuloel, and when the latter also looked over with a sense of realization, Su Ye flashed a smile.
Su Ye knew he had gripped the winning trump card.
“Lord Tonatiuh.” Amidst the chaotic discussion and admonishments, a strange, clear, youthful voice suddenly rang out.
Everyone turned toward the source of the sound, and what they saw was actually the silver-haired youth who had been following silently behind Tonatiuh.
The Evil God in the form of a youth had a trace of an inscrutable smile on his lips; just looking at him revealed a hint of wicked and crazed temperament. Any god who met those transparent purple eyes subconsciously looked away, feeling that just one glance inexplicably made their hearts pound.
“Since everyone wants to see my ability and divine office, then of course I don’t mind granting your wishes.”
He smiled, his eyes dark and his tone low and murmuring, like a whisper floating from beyond the starry sky or fragmented words rising from beneath the deep sea.
“I also happen to want to know what my name is.”
[Cthugha . 4-Star . Use Successful (3:59:59)]
“Congratulations.”
“At this very moment, you are the Sun upon the Earth.”
