Wife, Are You an Alpha Pretending to be an Omega? - Chapter 6
Xie Jingyu returned home to find that Wei Xia had already finished steaming the rice.
He had brought back over a dozen glutinous rice zongzi. The moment they met, he smiled and held up the bag to show them off. “Look at these.”
Wei Xia reached out to take them, but Xie Jingyu did not let him. He walked straight toward the kitchen, carrying the bag himself. “My hands are already dirty; I do not want to get yours messy.”
He carefully rinsed the sticky residue from the outside of the zongzi leaves under the tap, then placed them in a pot. He added water, turned on the stove, and set them to steam. His movements throughout the process were crisp and efficient, as if he were quite familiar with the kitchen.
Wei Xia was a bit surprised. “Jingyu, you know how to cook?”
Xie Jingyu felt a bit self-conscious, and his tone suddenly became a little distant. “In the past, I would often get cravings in the middle of the night. I did not want to trouble Auntie Li, so I would just whip something up myself.”
He did not actually have cravings; he simply worked overtime so often that he would forget to eat dinner, only realizing how hungry he was when the clock struck midnight.
Wei Xia felt flustered. “Glutinous rice zongzi? Then I should not have cooked the rice.”
“It is no matter; we will eat it for the next meal.” Xie Jingyu opened up a bit more. “These were made by Da Jing’s grandmother. They are delicious. He brought over a dozen for me to try this morning.”
“Da Jing?”
“Yes, a good friend of mine. I will introduce you to him later.”
The atmosphere began to turn awkward again.
Wei Xia felt a mixture of sadness and excitement. He was sad because he realized the “Da Jing” Xie Jingyu mentioned was Li Da Jing, the eldest young master of the Li family. They were from different worlds after all. However, he was excited because he detected a sliver of hope in Xie Jingyu’s tone.
Did Xie Jingyu actually intend to introduce him to his friends?
In truth, Xie Jingyu was not very good at intimate or friendly social interactions. He had lost both parents at a young age and grew up among hypocritical relatives, living a life under constant public scrutiny. Once he grew up, he dove straight into work, becoming accustomed to giving orders and performing rational analysis. Though he had many friends, he did not have anyone with whom he could share private, domestic words behind closed doors.
Even now, he was not quite used to having an Omega wife at home.
He had never been anyone’s husband and did not know how to become someone’s pillar of support. He simply took it for granted that since Wei Xia had married him, regardless of whether there were feelings involved, he should not mistreat the man.
This included his attitude. Thus, he did his best to appear gentle.
Ultimately, it was Wei Xia who broke the silence.
“Jingyu.”
“Go ahead.”
“I… I did not grow up in the Wei household,” Wei Xia said. He felt like he was already an open book in front of Xie Jingyu, but picking at his own scabs still hurt. It was not the old wounds themselves that pained him, but his own deep-seated insecurity. “So, my bond with the Wei family is not deep. I… it might be presumptuous of me to say this, but I still want to say it: Jingyu, if the Wei family makes any unreasonable demands, please ignore them.”
Xie Jingyu was somewhat surprised and raised an eyebrow.
“Has someone contacted you?”
Wei Xia froze for a second. That brief moment of hesitation was all the answer Xie Jingyu needed.
“Are you willing to tell me about it?” Xie Jingyu softened his voice. “About your upbringing.”
Wei Xia blinked, his heart thumping wildly. “Of course.”
Xie Jingyu had not taken off his coat yet. Today, he was wearing a deep gray suit with a black semi-turtleneck underneath, which faintly concealed the gland at the back of his neck. The suit was sharp and wrinkle-free, but as Xie Jingyu leaned against the wall in a relaxed posture, a few casual folds formed in the fabric. His expression was still cold, but his gaze had deliberately softened. He looked at Wei Xia with a gentle focus, seemingly putting all his effort into comforting him and letting him speak at his own pace.
Wei Xia’s heart melted into a puddle. The man before him was clearly so tender.
He began to tell his story slowly. It did not sound like he was narrating his own life; it sounded more like a story, one that he had intentionally and artfully crafted to make himself seem pitiable.
He was like a tiger, desperately disguising himself as a kitten, baring his belly in front of Xie Jingyu, only craving for the other man to cherish him a little more.
As expected, a flicker of heartache appeared in Xie Jingyu’s eyes.
“Your father truly is irresponsible.”
“I am sorry, I spoke out of anger,” Xie Jingyu said, rubbing his brow, worried that his comment might have been impolite.
“It is okay,” Wei Xia said. “I do not have a shred of affection for the Wei family. That is why I am telling you this, Jingyu. If they come to beg you for favors, do not change any of your decisions for my sake.”
Xie Jingyu looked at the well-behaved, sensible Omega before him, and his heart turned to water. How can he be so gentle and obedient, thinking of me in every regard?
Since he had previously assumed he would likely marry a spoiled and willful wife, seeing Wei Xia like this only made him feel more protective. He made a silent vow in his heart: even if they were to divorce in the future, he would spare no effort to treat Wei Xia well during their marriage.
“It is already a bit too late,” Xie Jingyu said.
Wei Xia looked up. “What?”
Xie Jingyu stood up and reached out to brush away a stray hair caught near Wei Xia’s lip. His expression was solemn, but his voice was light. “After hearing about your experiences, I think I might have to deal with them.”
“Would you agree to that?”
“…”
Wei Xia watched the hand Xie Jingyu extended. He suspected his sensory system was malfunctioning. His gaze drifted uncontrollably to Xie Jingyu’s lips. They were perfectly shaped, neither too thin nor too thick, with a pale color and natural, smooth lines. Like the aura the man radiated, they were cool and serious, yet possessed an indescribable, immense charm.
Wei Xia’s breath hitched. He wanted so badly to lean in and kiss him, to bite fiercely, and to consume him.
This was an Alpha’s most primal desire. Even if the other party did not possess the typical sweetness of an Omega, it was still nearly impossible to suppress.
His lips parted slightly. Xie Jingyu was saying: “You helped me last time, and we are in the same boat. If revenge is needed, I will make them pay a price.”
When Xie Jingyu said this, his eyes were deep and serious. Growing up in a family environment where no one could be trusted, he held the same malice toward ill-intentioned relatives. He fully supported Wei Xia striking back.
But he had no idea that at this moment, Wei Xia’s heart was entirely occupied by him.
The deep gray suit wrapped around the man’s lean body. The gland was hidden, yet Wei Xia knew exactly where it was, waiting for him to discover and explore it.
“Are you willing? As long as you are willing.”
Wei Xia’s train of thought was interrupted. Perhaps sensing his own physiological changes, he felt completely overwhelmed. He avoided Xie Jingyu’s gaze, terrified that his surging emotions would have nowhere to hide.
Left with no choice, he blurted out frantically: “Okay, okay.”
Xie Jingyu’s eyes softened considerably. He thought his wife was adorable, beautiful, and very kind. Despite having suffered so much, Wei Xia had not even taken the opportunity to complain or demand that Xie Jingyu solve his problems for him.
Xie Jingyu felt that if things continued like this, he would probably fall in love with Wei Xia.
He let out a quiet sigh.
Too bad I am an Omega.
Wei Xia did not notice the flash of loneliness in Xie Jingyu’s eyes. He struggled to suppress his hormone secretion and then stiffly changed the subject: “Is that finished cooking yet?”
He turned his back to check the pot on the stove.
The water was boiling, but it still needed a while. Wei Xia did not dare turn around because he looked down at himself and closed his eyes in resignation. If Xie Jingyu noticed, it would be too embarrassing.
Behind him, Xie Jingyu remained in that same lazy posture, leaning against the counter. He watched Wei Xia with a scrutinizing gaze, finding that the more he looked, the more he liked what he saw.
He knew perfectly well that he did not have a so-called lover. No matter how many hundreds of excuses he made, it boiled down to the fact that he knew a relationship between two Omegas had no future.
Aside from that, he was not opposed to the idea of cultivating feelings with his wife.
If Wei Xia truly did not have someone he liked, and if he could accept it.
Xie Jingyu turned to leave. The moment he turned around, he opened his phone’s search browser and typed: “O x O relationships.” He clicked search.
Wei Xia was in a state of internal chaos. Facing the pot on the stove, he opened his phone and searched:
“Can an Alpha fall in love with another Alpha?”
Under the same roof, on the same Wi-Fi network, they searched for two completely different questions.
