Wife, Are You an Alpha Pretending to be an Omega? - Chapter 5
Xie Jingyu bought a custom-made supercar for his newlywed Omega wife.
This news spread through their social circle until everyone knew about it. It was not because of how expensive the supercar was, but because everyone heard that Xie Jingyu had picked it out at a glance as the one that best suited his wife’s temperament and had practically begged him to accept it. People marveled at Master Xie’s generosity and devotion, and they grew even more curious about how formidable this legendary illegitimate son must be to actually live in such harmony with Xie Jingyu.
However, Wei Xia was not actually someone who particularly liked cars. It was simply that since Xie Jingyu had chosen it, he would accept it.
On this day, Wei Xia received a location pin on his phone. It was from someone in the Wei family.
“We need to talk. It is about your mother.”
The location was a cafe not far from Xie Jingyu’s house. He did not drive. A long wool coat wrapped around his thin frame. As he left, he saw a scarf belonging to Xie Jingyu on the shoe cabinet. For reasons he could not quite name, he took it, wrapped it around his neck, and headed out toward the cafe.
After walking through a long boulevard lined with plane trees, Wei Xia entered the stylish cafe. He sat inside, surrounded by a graceful and timeless piano melody. He ordered the simplest cup of coffee and took a small sip.
When the man entered, he saw a Wei Xia who looked relaxed and at ease. He stepped forward, pulled out the chair across from him, and sat down.
“Xia,” the man said.
Wei Xia merely glanced up at him before turning his gaze back toward the window. There was a small cat outside, very cute. He wondered if he and Xie Jingyu could raise one together in the future. Come to think of it, he had not yet asked if Jingyu liked cats.
“Xia,” the man repeated, his tone carrying a hint of authority.
He did not actually look like Wei Xia at all. Comparing the two, one could hardly tell they were father and son. Some scientific studies suggest that the degree of resemblance in a family is due to the high consistency of their daily diet. In that sense, it was logical that Wei Xia did not look like him; he had never eaten a single meal in the Wei household.
“If you have something to say, say it,” Wei Xia said coldly, not even lifting his eyelids.
“Ha! I see you have indeed grown bold.” A mocking smile played on Wei Zhian’s lips. The slight hint of intimacy from using the nickname vanished instantly, replaced by nothing but disdain.
You see, a person like this cannot even pretend.
“You have been married into that family for so long. If I had not contacted you, would you never have thought to call home?”
He saw the lone cup of coffee on the table and found it an eyesore. He reached out and swept it aside. Coffee splattered across the table. Wei Xia frowned at the mess the man had created and moved away in disgust.
“I have nothing to say to you,” Wei Xia replied.
He did not know what he would say over the phone. Reminisce? Even Wei Zhian must find that laughable. Did they have any past worth reminiscing about?
Wei Zhian’s temper flared. “Then do you not even care about your mother?”
“She is doing very well,” Wei Xia said, looking at him. “Did you not give her a large sum of money? She is probably off happily vacationing somewhere right now, likely annoying your wife in the process, right?”
“You!” Wei Zhian was speechless because everything Wei Xia said was true. “Xia, I always wanted to acknowledge you and bring you back. It was you who refused to return. I do not know what you have to resent me for. We are a family, after all, and I am ultimately your father.”
“True. I do not resent you,” Wei Xia said, looking up with a faint, lackluster smile. “In fact, I should thank you. Thank you for letting me marry Xie Jingyu. As for everything else, we really have nothing to talk about, do we? I do not resent you for having an affair and fathering me, nor do I deny that you are my father. But between us, that is all there is, right? Do you need me to play the part of a devoted son? There is no need for that.”
Wei Zhian was genuinely stumped. He had always assumed that Wei Xia’s willingness to return at this time was because he still cared about the family or held expectations for his parents. But hearing these words now, it seemed Wei Xia had only returned in order to marry Xie Jingyu.
What did that mean?
“But your surname is Wei! You are a member of the Wei family!” Wei Zhian stood up and raised his voice. People often try to convince others by shouting when they are being unreasonable or feel guilty. “Do you really think Xie Jingyu likes you as a person? If the Wei family had no value, if the Wei family became a ruin, you would see if he would still like you. How could an Alpha like him only have one Omega in his life? You will end up living a life even worse than your mother’s!”
Wei Xia let out a cold laugh. He thought the man before him was utterly pathetic. Did the Wei family even have value now? Were they some major presence in the elite circles?
But as he heard the end of the sentence, an uncontrollable surge of anger rose within him. This man knew very well that his mother’s life was miserable, yet he had never cared. Not only that, he was now cursing Wei Xia, saying he would never find happiness either.
He would never be like that poor woman! At the very least, at least he was the legal spouse now, the recognized partner of Xie Jingyu in name!
A painful, cramping strength rose in Wei Xia’s heart. He miserably understood that this was a self-deceiving excuse, but he refused to admit it.
“If this is all you wanted to say, then I will not stay.”
Wei Xia’s face turned pale. The lower half of his face was covered by the scarf, leaving only his dark and striking eyes visible. However, those eyes were filled with nothing but disregard and coldness. He gave Wei Zhian a flat look that made the other man look like a clown.
“You! You must help the Wei family obtain investment support from Xie Jingyu.”
What an audacious demand.
Wei Xia paused as he was leaving. He simply turned his head back, a blatant mocking smile on his lips. “Do you have any leverage to threaten me with?”
Wei Zhian was silent.
“My mother? Or your ridiculous family honor?” Wei Xia smiled. “Do not say things like that anymore; it makes you look foolish.”
With that, he turned and left. He pushed open the cafe door. The wind outside caught his scarf, bringing the scent belonging to Xie Jingyu to his face. Wei Xia raised his hand and took a deep breath.
A bitter, clean scent of tea entered his nasal cavity. Wei Xia’s heart was stirred by the scent for a moment. His mind made room to think about the source of this smell. The scent was dry and cool, not exactly sweet, but very unique. If this was Xie Jingyu’s pheromone scent, Wei Xia thought of Xie Jingyu’s sharp, serious face and decided it was quite a perfect match.
The man was undoubtedly a top-tier Alpha. Possessing such a cold and crisp pheromone scent made him even more charming. Unlike himself, he was just an Alpha with the most common white wine pheromones.
If only he were even a regular Beta? He would be satisfied with that.
As he walked, Wei Xia’s thoughts drifted uncontrollably. He thought that if Xie Jingyu could truly be with him, he would be willing to undergo surgery to remove his gland. Even being a Beta with no pheromones would likely be easier for Xie Jingyu to accept than a double-Alpha pairing.
He liked Xie Jingyu too much. He had originally thought that simply being together day and night would satisfy him, but now his mind was completely filled with the man’s shadow. He felt himself becoming greedy again.
As he walked back through the boulevard, he received a message from Xie Jingyu.
“Wei Xia, you do not need to cook lunch. I am bringing some local specialties home.”
The man’s tone was a bit stiff. A three-character name always made it difficult to know how to address someone. Using a nickname felt too intimate, but using the full name felt a bit cold. The man probably had not decided either, because after sending that sentence, he added a default system emoji.
“Smile”
Wei Xia could not help but laugh out loud. He thought the man was very cute. He typed a reply:
“Okay, Jingyu.” “Waiting for you”
It was an emoji of a small cat sitting obediently while waiting.
When Xie Jingyu saw the message, the corners of his mouth curved slightly.
His wife was truly a very well-behaved Omega. He did not lose out on this alliance, nor did he regret it. He ignored the teasing of the friends around him, put the ready-to-eat specialties into the trunk, and drove home.
