Wife, Are You an Alpha Pretending to be an Omega? - Chapter 11
Upon seeing Xie Jingyu, Wei Zhian instantly broke into an exaggerated smile, his aged face wrinkling like a blooming chrysanthemum.
He hurried forward, but seeing the apron on Xie Jingyu, he immediately turned and scolded, “Xia, what is wrong with you? How could you let our son-in-law enter the kitchen personally!”
As he spoke, he reached out toward Xie Jingyu’s waist to untie the apron. Xie Jingyu pivoted away to avoid the touch, his cold demeanor returning to that of the professional executive, his brow furrowed with business-like severity.
Wei Zhian shuddered, suddenly remembering that this son-in-law was the same serious and indifferent Xie Jingyu he had encountered at summits. It is only natural he does not want to be touched, he thought, offering a fawning smile.
Wei Xia walked over dejectedly.
Before coming to the door, Xie Jingyu had already brought out the noodles. Two bowls sat on the table, plain and without toppings. Wei Zhian plopped himself down into Wei Xia’s seat and asked with a smile, “Is this for me?”
Xie Jingyu frowned, about to speak, but he saw Wei Xia walk over and pull out the adjacent chair to sit down. Wei Xia gave him a look that silently said, “It is okay.”
Wei Xia then turned to his father. “What are you doing here?”
Wei Zhian looked at him reproachfully. “Xia, how can you say that? You have been married for several months. I am your father; is it not only natural for me to visit?” After saying this, he did not forget to look at Xie Jingyu pleasingly.
Xie Jingyu’s eyes darkened as he looked at the bowl in front of Wei Zhian, his brow tightly knit. That was the meal he had made for Wei Xia; he had kneaded the dough multiple times to get the proportions just right.
What was this man doing here?
Xie Jingyu’s expression was incredibly grim, but Wei Zhian acted as if he were completely blind to social cues, or perhaps he was intentionally ignoring them, given that Xie Jingyu was his legitimate son-in-law.
One does not visit the Temple of the Three Treasures without a reason: Wei Zhian wanted to secure the land in the Economic Development Zone. With the Wei family’s strength, they could never swallow it alone, but if they had the Xie family’s backing, even the scraps falling from their table would be enough to save the Wei family many times over.
Wei Xia felt a surge of extreme loathing. If he had been immersed in a warm, domestic routine with Jingyu a moment ago, now only pure disgust remained. He stole a glance at Jingyu.
In the next second, his hand was grasped.
Because they were sitting side-by-side, the movement under the table was hidden from Wei Zhian. Xie Jingyu’s face remained cold and indifferent, but he squeezed the joints of Wei Xia’s pinky finger as if to say, “Stay calm.”
Wei Xia’s heart settled back into his chest. He will firmly protect me, he told himself.
Then, Xie Jingyu’s voice rang out, cold to the extreme.
“And you are?”
A deliberate question! It clearly stated his attitude.
The smile on Wei Zhian’s face froze for a moment, as if he had turned to stone. It took him two or three seconds to regain control over his facial muscles.
“Look at my memory! I forgot to introduce myself when I walked in.” He stood up, wiped his hands on his clothes, and extended a palm. “I am Xia’s father. We met at the wedding.”
Xie Jingyu sat with his arms crossed. “Oh.”
The room fell into silence.
Wei Zhian signaled to Wei Xia with his eyes, but Wei Xia ignored him, staring only at the noodles in front of Wei Zhian. If the noodles sat too long, they would lose their texture.
“I do not recall meeting at the wedding. It has been a while. My apologies.”
Despite his words, Xie Jingyu did not even give him a glance. How long could two months be? Wei Zhian began to sweat. It was not that he had not wanted to visit; it was just that rumors were circulating that Xie Jingyu looked down on Wei Xia. He had been afraid that a premature visit would cost him his pride. But after hearing that Xie Jingyu had dealt harshly with several people to protect Wei Xia, he realized he had miscalculated. He secretly thought that in families like this, everyone was shrewd; even if the rumors said he was protecting Wei Xia, it might just be for Xie Jingyu’s own interests.
But since he was already here, he had to push through.
“No apology needed! I am the one disturbing you newlyweds, hahaha. Xia, remember to be diligent!”
“He is doing very well.”
Xie Jingyu interrupted him ruthlessly, his tone carrying a hint of contempt. If one were slightly sensitive, they would feel the deep sense of insult in his voice, as if Wei Xia were merely a maid he had purchased.
Wei Zhian had intended to force his request out, but now he truly could not open his mouth.
“Good, good.”
Xie Jingyu asked, “Do you have any other business?”
“Haha, are you eating?”
You still want to eat?
Under Xie Jingyu’s blunt and unwavering gaze, Wei Zhian finally buckled under the pressure. After a few more pleasantries, he got up and scurried away. As he left, Wei Xia saw him out, only to be met with a look of angry disappointment. It was as if all the cold treatment Wei Zhian had received today was because Wei Xia was useless.
Bang!
The door closed. Wei Xia felt a bit despondent. He turned around only to bump into someone.
Xie Jingyu, nearly the same height as him, stood there. The living room light shone from behind the Alpha, making his face slightly hazy. To Wei Xia, he looked like a savior.
Xie Jingyu gently took Wei Xia’s limp hand and said slowly, “You must be hungry. I will make it for you again. I have more experience now, so it will be better than the last batch.”
He said nothing else, glossing over the brief unpleasantness, only worried that the person before him might be sad. Wei Xia finally nodded.
In the kitchen, the atmosphere between the two was noticeably more suppressed. Neither knew what to say, focusing only on the cooking while lost in their own thoughts.
After a long silence:
“I”
“I am sorry”
They spoke at the same time, their gazes meeting in the air. Wei Xia’s eyes widened. He did not understand why Xie Jingyu was apologizing to him; the confusion was plain on his face.
Xie Jingyu’s heart softened, and his expression was no longer as stern as before.
He thought for a moment and said seriously, “I really should not have spoken about you that way.”
Wei Xia’s mind went blank. It took a long time for him to realize Xie Jingyu was referring to the phrase “He is doing very well.”
Then he heard Xie Jingyu continue: “That was a denial of your value, and it was not my intention. I only, I only thought it would make him leave sooner. But I did not consider it thoroughly. If he talks nonsense outside, it will sound very bad. I”
Wei Zhian had lost face, so he normally would not publicize it, but what if he did? Xie Jingyu knew very well that Wei Zhian did not like Wei Xia.
Before he could finish, Wei Xia hugged him tightly, a deep embrace where their necks overlapped.
A faint scent of red wine drifted from Wei Xia’s undisguised gland, delivered almost directly to Xie Jingyu’s lips. But he did not want to bite. As an Omega, his instincts only made his own gland throb wildly, craving for the other person to treat him wantonly.
Unlike Xie Jingyu, Wei Xia truly wanted to bite.
Xie Jingyu’s gland was right there by his mouth, flat and sealed tight by a high-grade suppressant patch without a single leak. Just like the man himself: serious, calm, and without a trace of pheromones.
Alpha instincts were driving Wei Xia mad; his eyes were turning red with the urge to bite, yet he could not reveal a single trace of that desire. He was Wei Xia, the sweet and lovely “Omega,” Xie Jingyu’s adorable wife. The sensation was a mix of agony and bliss; he felt he could die happy.
Xie Jingyu regained control of his limbs and stiffly wrapped his arms around Wei Xia’s back. He had never had such close physical contact before. He was stunned, but he tried his best to stroke the back of the person in his arms.
Stroke by stroke, he was offering comfort.
From his perspective, Wei Xia should be very sad and in need of solace. But from behind, one could see that Wei Xia was enduring to the point of near collapse.
“Xia, let us, let us give it a try.”
Those words exhausted all of Xie Jingyu’s courage. He was being impulsive, but it was more than just impulse.
Wei Xia was completely stunned. All that talk about Alpha loss of control was nothing compared to this shock. Wei Xia’s restraint was shattered by this new thought. His brain, his heart, and his pheromones all spun out of order, colliding until he felt as if his soul had left his body.
A single tear fell with a splat, followed by two, three, dropping rapidly and making one’s heart ache.
Startled, Xie Jingyu cupped the other’s head, unable to say a word. Such a good person like Wei Xia, and he had made him cry!
He really should not have said that. Would Wei Xia think he did not value him? Would he think he was just playing with him, that he had moved on to him so shortly after his last “lover”?
Xie Jingyu was in a complete panic. He felt he had lost his mind to say such a thing at such a moment; it was too frivolous, too much like a scoundrel!
“I, I” In his desperation, he actually said, “Do not cry. I, I take it back.”
Wei Xia’s eyes were red. Upon hearing this, he glared, revealing a rabbit’s hidden fangs. He grabbed Xie Jingyu’s head with his large hands and kissed him fiercely.
How could he possibly take it back?
The rolling pin fell to the floor with a clatter.
