Wife, Are You an Alpha Pretending to be an Omega? - Chapter 10
After helping Wei Xia out of the area, Xie Jingyu was filled with deep guilt. He should have known that people like Feng Cong were up to no good. He just had not expected them to move so quickly. He had only lost sight of Wei Xia for a short moment after they entered, yet the trouble had already started.
Seeing Wei Xia’s pale face, his heart ached. He gently stroked Wei Xia’s back to soothe him. “I am sorry. I should not have let you go to change your clothes by yourself.”
Wei Xia looked as though he were still in a state of shock, and his lips lacked color. However, as soon as Xie Jingyu finished speaking, he gripped Xie Jingyu’s hand tightly and offered a fragile yet understanding smile.
“I do not blame you. They were the ones looking for trouble.”
His wife was always so sensible, but as the person Xie Jingyu had acknowledged as his spouse, he did not believe that being “sensible” was always an admirable quality.
“It was my lack of foresight. Do you want to continue today? If you do not want to play anymore, I can take you to the seaside for dinner. We can come back another time after I have arranged everything properly.”
Wei Xia had originally been looking forward to riding horses with Xie Jingyu, but with so many prying eyes around, he truly did not want to stay there any longer. A seaside dinner sounded wonderful. As long as he was with Xie Jingyu, anything they did together was interesting.
“Okay,” he replied.
Since Xie Jingyu was leaving so soon after arriving, Li Dajing’s expression was not very pleasant. He knew he had failed to make the proper arrangements, but since he could not afford to offend Feng Cong, he could only politely see Xie Jingyu and Wei Xia off. Before they left, he handed Wei Xia a small membership token.
Wei Xia was a bit confused, as he did not know what it was for.
Li Dajing smiled and explained: “Sister in law, in half a month, a new batch of foals will be delivered to my ranch. When that time comes, come back with Brother Xie and pick one to raise as your own.”
Wei Xia looked at Xie Jingyu, who nodded and said “Thanks” to Li Dajing. Warmth flooded Wei Xia’s heart. He looked at Xie Jingyu and then at Li Dajing, offering a sincere thank you.
Li Dajing replied: “Do not mention it. You are Brother Xie’s wife, which makes you my dear sister in law.”
A faint blush appeared on both Wei Xia and Xie Jingyu’s faces. Neither of them looked at the other, so they did not notice each other’s embarrassment. Li Dajing saw it all, and his internal attitude toward Wei Xia changed drastically. He had not expected Xie Jingyu to actually place such importance on this marriage partner.
As the saying goes, the way friends treat your wife reflects the way they value you. Xie Jingyu’s actions today quickly spread through their social circle, and everyone began to view Wei Xia with newfound respect. This also caused Wei Zhian’s mind to start plotting again.
Xie Jingyu drove Wei Xia to lunch. His original plan had been to spend the day at the ranch and then have dinner at a private seaside kitchen. However, due to the change in plans, he had to move the reservation forward. He also remembered a botanical garden near the Ning Sea that they could visit. This was essentially their first date, and he wanted to give Wei Xia a beautiful memory.
The weather that evening was perfect. A gentle breeze blew, the temperature was comfortable, and the salty sea air brought a sense of relaxation to them both.
Wei Xia had been observing Xie Jingyu throughout the trip. The man’s appearance was flawless, appearing like a model for a CEO character in a manga. No one could look better in a suit than him. Today, Xie Jingyu was wearing a slightly more casual outfit that Wei Xia had prepared for him, and it looked even better than Wei Xia had imagined.
Accented by the sound of the waves, Wei Xia’s gaze grew increasingly intense until Xie Jingyu noticed.
“What is it? Is there something on my face?”
Wei Xia looked away and lowered his eyes, shaking his head. His face seemed a bit red, which Xie Jingyu noticed. He found Wei Xia to be quite adorable.
Xie Jingyu let out a small chuckle. Wei Xia looked up in surprise. It seemed like Xie Jingyu almost never laughed. In the past, Xie Jingyu never showed his emotions, whether he was angry or happy. Wei Xia was always looking for the slightest movement in the man’s muscles to try to guess his mood. He had never heard him laugh out loud before, but now, the curve of Xie Jingyu’s lips was unmistakable. He was truly laughing.
This sight left Wei Xia dazed. Xie Jingyu raised his wine glass and asked in a low, husky, and doting voice: “What are you staring at?”
Wei Xia felt as if his brain were overheating. Suddenly, a hand touched his forehead. Xie Jingyu had stood up and was now touching his cheek.
“You do not have a fever, do you? If you feel unwell, tell me, and we will go home.”
We will go home.
Wei Xia repeated those words in his mind over and over. His eyes began to shimmer with tears, which he quickly blinked away as he shook his head.
“I am fine. We have not even finished dinner yet.”
Xie Jingyu asked with concern: “Is the food good? If you like it, I will cook for you next time.”
Wei Xia’s eyes widened. “You know how to cook?”
Xie Jingyu looked down and smiled. He admitted he was being a bit overconfident. This meal was prepared by a top tier chef using the freshest seasonal ingredients. Xie Jingyu knew he could not reach this level, but he figured he could learn. He was always a fast learner.
“I can learn,” he said.
His expression was steady, but Wei Xia could hear a trace of guilt in his voice and laughed. He truly felt the man’s vibrant energy. Xie Jingyu watched Wei Xia laugh and smiled slightly, saying nothing. The atmosphere made him feel very much at peace.
Then, he saw Wei Xia pull a piece of foxtail grass out of his pocket. It had been woven into the shape of a little rabbit. As the sea breeze blew, the fuzzy ears wobbled. Suddenly, Xie Jingyu caught a scent of white wine.
His heart began to race, and his gland throbbed in sync with his pulse. This was clearly not Wei Xia’s pheromones; he could tell the scent was being carried by the sea breeze. Perhaps someone nearby was drinking white wine. It smelled crisp and cool. He could not help but think of the scent of Wei Xia’s pheromones. He had smelled them in the car before, and they were much sweeter than ordinary white wine.
Xie Jingyu sat up straight instinctively to hide his reaction. He felt both annoyed and surprised. He realized that he could actually be physically attracted to another Omega. He felt that this was very disrespectful.
Wei Xia was lost in his own wonderful fantasies. Tonight, he truly felt that the distance between him and Xie Jingyu was closing. It was not a delusion; he could no longer convince himself it was one sided, as that would be a waste of the beautiful scenery and the man before him. If he had just a little more time, he would make Jingyu get used to him and accept him. If all else failed, he could even have his gland removed, but none of that mattered. He believed Jingyu would fall in love with him.
Following that day, Xie Jingyu applied pressure to Xie Hai. Xie Hai was forced to put on a friendly face, freezing Xie Ci’s bank cards and grounding him at home. The word outside was that Xie Ci would not be allowed to leave the house for two months. Rumors began to circulate that Xie Jingyu and Wei Xia were deeply in love.
The Wei family also manipulated the situation to guide public opinion. Within a few days, several banks had already approved loans for Wei Zhian. Xie Jingyu kept a close eye on these developments. He instructed Fang Jinran to let his father-in-law enjoy his success for a few more days.
However, since there had been no direct response from Xie Jingyu himself, Wei Zhian still felt somewhat restricted. He came up with a plan and decided to pay a visit to Xie Jingyu’s home.
When Wei Zhian arrived, Xie Jingyu and Wei Xia were preparing dinner. Lately, the sense of distance between them had mostly vanished. They worked together with perfect timing, each handling their own tasks. Both of them had calm and steady temperaments, making them very compatible in daily life. This was even more true now that their hearts were drawing closer.
Xie Jingyu was the one cooking today. He was wearing an apron while boiling noodles. Wei Xia was helping out in the kitchen when he heard a knock at the door. He went to open it, and the smile on his face froze instantly when he saw who was standing there. He tried to close the door, but Wei Zhian forced his way halfway inside.
“You!”
Xie Jingyu finished straining the noodles. When he noticed Wei Xia had not said anything, he felt curious and went to see who was at the door. “Who is it?”
He froze in place as well. It was his father-in-law. Almost instantly, Xie Jingyu’s first instinct was to check Wei Xia’s expression. Wei Xia looked pale and upset. It was clear that neither of them welcomed this person.
