- Chapter 4 - Does This Look Like Someone Who "Can't Function"?
Jiang Huaiyan stood still, rooted to the spot.
“I told you to come over here!” Zhou Yunqiu raised his voice.
Jiang Huaiyan walked over expressionlessly.
“Kneel down.”
Jiang Huaiyan paused. He knew this little brat’s temperament all too well; if he didn’t satisfy his whims, there was no telling how Zhou would find new ways to torment him. For the sake of having to inject fewer high-potency suppressants, he chose to be obedient and knelt down.
Looking at Jiang Huaiyan’s serious, upright demeanor, Zhou Yunqiu suddenly felt a surge of desire to tease him. He rolled up his pajama pants, revealing a slender, pale leg which he rested upon Jiang Huaiyan’s lap.
“My legs ache,” he said in a soft, silky voice. “Massage them for me.”
Jiang Huaiyan stared at the leg draped over him, his entire body stiffening.
“Hurry up now,” Zhou Yunqiu urged, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“Little Master, if you are tired, I can find a professional therapist for you.”
“But I want you to do it. Are you really so incompetent that you can’t even handle something this simple?” Zhou Yunqiu blinked his large, innocent eyes, asking with an air of total sincerity.
Jiang Huaiyan: “…Professional matters should be left to professionals.”
“But I don’t want anyone else touching me,” Zhou Yunqiu said, pointedly rubbing his leg against Jiang Huaiyan’s thigh. “Just do it. The longer you delay, the more uncomfortable I get. The more uncomfortable I get, the worse my mood becomes. And if I’m in a bad mood, well, you know…”
Jiang Huaiyan ground his teeth and placed his large hands on that slender leg. The skin was like snow, as translucent as fine jade—he found it difficult to look away. Forcing down the restless demon within his body, he began to gently massage Zhou Yunqiu’s leg.
Having just finished his heat, Zhou Yunqiu’s body was still quite weak. Under the massage, he began to feel drowsy. He lay back comfortably, enjoying the service of this “Beta.”
In his relaxed state, his pheromones began to drift out unconsciously, tendrils of scent winding their way into Jiang Huaiyan’s nose.
The bodyguard abruptly stood up. “Little Master, I just remembered I have an urgent matter to attend to. I need to handle it.”
Zhou Yunqiu’s eyes snapped open. He sat up and grabbed a corner of Jiang Huaiyan’s bathrobe. “Who gave you permission to leave?”
“Little Master, I—”
“Is helping me with a leg massage really that embarrassing for you?” A cloud of gloom suddenly settled over Zhou Yunqiu’s heart.
Why does nobody like me? It was one thing for an Alpha like Fang Yanting to dislike him, but even this Beta, Jiang Huaiyan, avoided him like he was a scorpion. Was he really that repulsive?
As this thought took hold, anger rushed to his head. He yanked hard on Jiang Huaiyan’s bathrobe, trying to pull the man toward him. However, Jiang Huaiyan remained standing like a statue.
The more reluctant Jiang Huaiyan was, the angrier Zhou Yunqiu became. With one final, forceful tug, half of the bathrobe suddenly fell open, revealing Jiang Huaiyan’s powerful, well-built physique.
Zhou Yunqiu was left wide-eyed and speechless.
This was the first time he had seen an adult male “Beta’s” body so… completely. It was so…
Wait, isn’t he supposed to be… “dysfunctional”?
Does this look like the body of someone who can’t function?
Before he could finish the thought, Jiang Huaiyan, his face rigid, yanked the bathrobe back together and tied it quickly. He turned and strode out the door.
He pulled the door open, only to find a handsome man in a business suit standing right there. The man was half a head shorter than Jiang Huaiyan, and his deep-set eyes were filled with absolute shock.
Sensing something was wrong, Zhou Yunqiu ran out of the room, ducked behind Jiang Huaiyan, and stammered, “Brother? Why are you here so early in the morning?”
Zhou Yunqing spat out a single word through gritted teeth: “Explain.”
“I… I felt like he smelled, so I forced him to take a bath. He didn’t have a change of clothes, so he had to wear a bathrobe,” Zhou Yunqiu explained earnestly, adding that he had already sent Auntie Chen to buy Jiang Huaiyan new clothes.
Zhou Yunqing’s gaze fell on Jiang Huaiyan. “Is that so? You don’t need to cover for him.”
“Brother…” Zhou Yunqiu was annoyed. Even in this situation, his brother still thought he was the one bullying Jiang Huaiyan!
“Don’t I know exactly what kind of person you are? Get back inside, change your clothes, and come with me to the Fang residence.”
“Huh? What are we going to the Fang’s for?” Zhou Yunqiu was dazed.
“To cancel the engagement!” The news of Fang Yanting keeping an Omega was already common knowledge. Even if the Zhou family currently needed the Fang family’s help, Zhou Yunqing would not let his brother suffer such humiliation.
“I’m not canceling it,” Zhou Yunqiu refused decisively.
Both Zhou Yunqing and Jiang Huaiyan looked at him in confusion.
“Brother, don’t worry about this. I have my own plans,” Zhou Yunqiu said, closing the door and shutting both men out to prevent his brother from ruining his scheme.
As for Jiang Huaiyan, he wasn’t worried at all. His brother never believed that Jiang Huaiyan would bully him; after all, Jiang Huaiyan was “just a Beta”—it was only ever Zhou Yunqiu who did the bullying.
Outside the door, Zhou Yunqing apologized to Jiang Huaiyan: “Qiuqiu is truly stubborn and unruly. I appreciate your hard work in looking after him, Mr. Jiang.”
“It is my job,” Jiang Huaiyan replied with a professional attitude.
“Thank you. I will find a suitable Alpha for Qiuqiu soon. Once he is married, you will be free to leave as per our agreement.”
“Understood.”
“The Zhou family is currently in a period of instability. Please protect Qiuqiu well.” After saying this, Zhou Yunqing headed downstairs. He had work to attend to; since Zhou Yunqiu refused to cancel the engagement now, he wouldn’t force it. With Jiang Huaiyan there, at least the boy wouldn’t cause a catastrophe.
Back in his room, Zhou Yunqiu was still thinking about that brief, startling glimpse. Jiang Huaiyan’s appearance certainly didn’t suggest he was “dysfunctional.”
If he was perfectly capable, why was he always so respectful and distant? No matter how much Zhou teased him, there was never a reaction. Was it because he wasn’t Jiang’s type, or was the man just too upright?
While he was deep in thought, his phone rang. It was a photo from an unknown number. A beautiful Omega was kissing his fiancé, Fang Yanting. Below it was a message: We are truly in love.
Zhou Yunqiu smiled. Is this a declaration of war?
He screenshotted the message and sent it directly to Fang Yanting. Fang Yanting called almost immediately. Zhou hit “decline” and sent a text instead: “Want to break off the engagement?”
Fang Yanting’s reply came quickly: “Of course not. It’s just a misunderstanding. I had a bit too much to drink that day.”
Zhou Yunqiu: “He said you two are very much in love.”
Fang Yanting: “Don’t listen to his nonsense. Are you free at noon? Let’s have lunch together.”
Zhou Yunqiu: “Fine. You pick the place.”
Once Fang Yanting sent the address, Zhou Yunqiu screenshotted his conversation with Fang Yanting and sent it back to the Omega who had challenged him. The Omega, who had just been asking why he hadn’t replied, went silent instantly.
Trying to fight with me? You overestimate yourself. He didn’t even care about Fang Yanting, so how could those photos hurt him?
Despite this, he still dressed himself up beautifully before heading out. However, after waiting for a long time, all he received was a text from Fang Yanting apologizing—an “emergency” at the company meant he couldn’t make it.
Zhou Yunqiu wasn’t angry at all. He called Jiang Huaiyan, who was wandering around downstairs. “Come up and eat.”
“Little Master, that is inappropriate.”
“I say it’s appropriate, so it is. Hurry up.” He hung up without giving Jiang Huaiyan a chance to refuse.
Jiang Huaiyan arrived quickly. Seeing Zhou Yunqiu alone, he asked pointedly, “Where is Young Master Fang?”
“Can’t you tell I’ve been stood up?”
Jiang Huaiyan: “…” He could tell; he was just intentionally poking at the little brat’s sore spot.
“Stay and eat with me. Everyone else is in pairs; I look quite pitiful sitting here alone.”
“Little Master, I—”
“Oh? Isn’t this the young Master Zhou? What a coincidence.” A voice suddenly rang out.
The two looked up to see an extraordinarily handsome man walking toward them. His flirtatious peach-blossom eyes were highly recognizable. It was Duan Mingxu, the owner of The Summit.
But when Zhou Yunqiu saw him, his expression darkened.
Agarwood! The “dog” who had left his Alpha pheromones all over Jiang Huaiyan!
