- Chapter 3 - You Have the Scent of an Alpha on You!
The faint scent of bergamot instantly swirled into Zhou Yunqiu’s nose.
His body pressed against Jiang Huaiyan uncontrollably. “What is that smell? It’s so… wonderful.”
The warm breath and the scorching heat of Zhou’s body made Jiang Huaiyan draw in a sharp, cold breath. He hurriedly laid Zhou Yunqiu onto the bed and quickly reapplied a new pheromone-blocking patch.
The delicate fragrance vanished instantly.
Zhou Yunqiu immediately became irritable. “What did you do? Where did that scent go? Where is it?”
“There is no scent, Little Master. You’ve had too much to drink and are hallucinating. Go to sleep; it’s late.” Jiang Huaiyan spoke as he prepared to leave.
Zhou Yunqiu grabbed his hand. “Don’t you dare leave. My nose is perfectly fine; I didn’t make a mistake. You’re the one playing tricks!”
Jiang Huaiyan: “…”
“Are you hiding a sachet on you?” Muddled and dazed, Zhou Yunqiu reached out to frisk Jiang Huaiyan’s body.
Jiang Huaiyan dodged his hand as if he had been struck by an electric shock.
“What are you hiding for?” Zhou Yunqiu glared at him.
An invisible fire flared up from deep within Jiang Huaiyan’s heart. He restrained himself so forcefully that the veins on his forehead pulsed. He had no choice but to release a small amount of soothing pheromones to calm Zhou Yunqiu’s agitated heart.
The glands, which had been in a state of disorder due to the heat cycle, suddenly felt the Alpha’s soothing pheromones and gradually stabilized. Zhou Yunqiu greedily inhaled the precious pheromones, his eyelids growing heavy.
“Sleep now. Good boy,” Jiang Huaiyan whispered. He couldn’t help but ruffle Zhou’s hair before settling him down on the bed.
Once he was certain the boy was asleep, Jiang Huaiyan stood up, cleared the residual Alpha pheromones from the air, left a single lamp on, and turned to leave.
Back in his car, he leaned against the seat back, waiting a long time for his restless body to settle. He pulled out his phone and dialed his friend, Duan Mingxu.
“Prepare some more high-potency suppressants for me.”
“Are you joking? I just sent you some last month. Are you eating them like candy?”
“Cut the crap.”
“No, seriously—how much charm does this ‘Little Master’ have that you’re stabbing yourself like a madman?”
“Just do it.”
“I think you should just stop pretending to be a Beta. Why not just mark him? Fang Yanting doesn’t like him anyway. If you keep holding it in like this, I’m worried you’ll actually damage your body.”
“Get lost!” Jiang Huaiyan was about to hang up.
“Wait! I’ll send the suppressants tomorrow. I also want to talk to you about the project.”
“Fine.”
Jiang Huaiyan hung up, started the car, and drove back to his own residence.
The next morning, Zhou Yunqiu woke up with a splitting headache.
He rolled around on the bed a few times before suddenly bolting upright, his eyes wide as he recalled the previous night.
He seemed to remember smelling pheromones. Whose?
Jiang Huaiyan was a Beta; he shouldn’t have pheromones. But no one else was allowed in his room besides Jiang Huaiyan.
Did he bring a random man home?
Zhou Yunqiu instantly exploded. “Jiang Huaiyan!”
Jiang Huaiyan had just stepped through the front door when he heard the ear-shattering roar.
In the kitchen, Auntie Chen trembled. “Xiao Jiang, did you upset the Little Master again?”
Jiang Huaiyan felt a bit guilty. Did he find out about the pheromones? He pursed his lips and headed upstairs.
An enraged Zhou Yunqiu spotted him and immediately grabbed his collar. Before he could even begin his interrogation, a scent of agarwood drifted into his nose.
His brows knit tightly. He leaned in and sniffed carefully.
This was definitely the scent of pheromones—and an Alpha’s at that.
He demanded furiously, “Whose is it?”
“What?” Jiang Huaiyan realized that Zhou Yunqiu hadn’t actually discovered his identity as an Alpha.
“You have the scent of an Alpha on you!” Zhou Yunqiu’s hands shook with rage.
Jiang Huaiyan was a Beta, yet he smelled like an Alpha. Had he found himself an Alpha lover?
“How heavy is your taste? Are Omegas not good enough? You had to find an Alpha!”
Jiang Huaiyan: “…”
“Which blind dog was it? I’m going to kill him!” How dare someone defile my bodyguard! Since he was his bodyguard, everything about him belonged to him.
“Little Master, is the agarwood what you’re smelling?” Jiang Huaiyan guessed the cause.
“You have the nerve to ask!”
“That is my friend’s pheromone scent. He just came over to give me something; I must have picked some up when we met,” Jiang Huaiyan explained with a serious face.
Hearing this, Zhou Yunqiu’s rampaging heart calmed down slightly. “Truly?”
“Yes.”
“Then where did the pheromones from last night come from?” Zhou Yunqiu savored the memory; it had been a bergamot scent, and it was quite pleasant.
Jiang Huaiyan brought out the excuse he had prepared earlier: “That wasn’t the smell of pheromones. It was a sachet designed to calm the nerves and aid sleep.”
He pulled out a sachet and handed it to Zhou Yunqiu. “If the Little Master likes it, you can keep it by your pillow when you sleep.”
He had injected a tiny amount of pheromones into it, enough to soothe an Omega’s mind.
Zhou Yunqiu took it and brought it to his nose. The faint fragrance made him feel refreshed and clear-headed. The last of his gloom vanished. He smiled and stuffed it into his pocket. “Since you gave it to me, I suppose I’ll go through the trouble of accepting it. However…”
“You need to go take a bath. Right now.” Zhou Yunqiu grabbed Jiang Huaiyan’s wrist and dragged him toward the bedroom.
“I bathed when I got up this morning.”
“Then do it again! Wash off all those pheromones from your body. It smells terrible.” Zhou Yunqiu stopped and turned back to look at him. “Does this ‘friend’ of yours have feelings for you?”
Jiang Huaiyan: “???”
“Otherwise, why would he leave his pheromones all over you?”
Jiang Huaiyan suddenly felt incredibly awkward.
“Don’t see him again.” When Zhou Yunqiu didn’t hear an answer, he asked again, “Did you hear me?”
“I heard you, but you don’t have the right to interfere with my friendships.”
Zhou Yunqiu’s eyebrows shot up. “I say I do, so I do.”
Knowing that Zhou Yunqiu was exceptionally unreasonable when he wanted to be, Jiang Huaiyan stopped arguing. “I don’t have a change of clothes.”
“Small matter. Wear mine.” Zhou Yunqiu forcefully pushed Jiang Huaiyan into the bathroom and went to the walk-in closet to find something.
But as an Omega, his build was significantly smaller than Jiang Huaiyan’s; Jiang Huaiyan couldn’t possibly fit into his clothes. He bit his lip and sent Auntie Chen, who was making breakfast, out to buy a set of clothes in Jiang Huaiyan’s size.
Once Auntie Chen left, Zhou Yunqiu and Jiang Huaiyan were the only two people left in the villa.
Jiang Huaiyan washed away every trace of the other scent and stepped out wearing a bathrobe. Because this was Zhou Yunqiu’s bedroom, even a new bathrobe inevitably carried a hint of Zhou’s pheromones.
The faint scent of lime gently tugged at Jiang Huaiyan’s heartstrings.
“Wait here. I sent Auntie Chen to get you clothes.” Zhou Yunqiu sat on the edge of the bed, swinging his feet, his eyes locked on the man.
“Then I’ll go downstairs and prepare breakfast.” Jiang Huaiyan wanted to leave; he had a faint feeling that Zhou Yunqiu wasn’t going to behave himself.
“No rush. Come here first.” Zhou Yunqiu curled his finger at Jiang Huaiyan, beckoning him closer.
