- Chapter 28 - Zerg World 28: He said: Lord of the Insects, I am guilty.
“S-rank?!”
“Insect God! He actually evolved into an S-rank male!”
“Then today’s trial,” the voices trailed off in shock.
Low gasps of astonishment spread rapidly from the female insect holding the report. The news acted like an invisible mountain, crashing directly onto the officials presiding over the trial.
“Your Honor,” the clerk standing behind the judge gripped his electronic pen tightly. After experiencing such dramatic shifts, his temples were completely drenched in cold sweat. “If Lord Ryan is truly an S-rank male, can we proceed with the sentencing as planned?”
Could they judge him? Did they even dare?
A gift from the Insect God only appears once in a century. If it were destroyed due to their error, when would the next S-rank male appear? They did not dare to gamble with the future of the Empire.
Chu Sicheng leaned quietly against the hovercar. Even with numerous red sniper dots focused on him, there wasn’t a trace of panic on his face. He appeared composed, as if he had anticipated this outcome all along.
“I broke Elio’s hand,” he said slowly. “I was also the one who threw Philo to those F-rank females. So, what of it?”
Chu Sicheng looked at Philo, who was trembling with rage on the bench, and tilted his head slightly. His blue-gray eyes were filled with undisguised malice. “Is that not allowed?”
He didn’t believe the officials on the bench hadn’t investigated the matter thoroughly before the meeting. They knew why Elio had suddenly rushed to Qing Garden, and they knew exactly who had arranged those low-level females and who they were intended for. It was only because Ryan was an F-rank male at the time that they chose to act blind.
But now, would they still dare to ignore it? Could they?
This was an S-rank male. Not only did he possess the highest value for soothing and breeding, but he was also a symbol of power. Chu Sicheng blinked and smiled at Philo, who was staring at him wide-eyed.
“By the way, you have always taken pride in mastering the direction of this world. Do you know that there are things here that you don’t understand?”
“What are you trying to say?” Philo demanded.
“I’m saying that books are dead, but the world is alive.”
In that novel written from Ryan’s perspective, Philo only saw Friedrich’s handsomeness and bravery, as well as his eventual deep affection. He ignored Ryan’s value and ability after becoming an S-rank male. He thought Ryan was just a useless insect pampered by Friedrich, forgetting that at the start of the plot, Ryan could make females lose their minds and obey him completely through his blood alone.
Chu Sicheng slowly raised his hand. A faint pheromone began to spread through the air. The moment his fingertip pointed at Philo, the guards in the hall, whom Philo had viewed as his protectors, simultaneously aimed their guns at the male insect who had fallen to the ground.
When Philo first transmigrated, he had marveled at the Insect God’s favoritism toward males. They possessed the most exquisite appearances and pheromones that females craved, and they were protected by the Empire. An A-rank male like him could simply beckon, and females would scramble to offer him their assets. He had nothing to worry about except his own pleasure.
But he had not expected the Insect God to favor S-rank males to this degree. Their pheromones were not only highly concentrated but could actually control the surrounding females.
Philo was no longer staring at Chu Sicheng with hatred; he was terrified by the gun muzzles pointed at him. He feared that an accidental discharge from a careless guard would end his life.
“Actually, at this point, living is worse than dying,” the skull whispered in his ear. “The protagonist has evolved to S-rank. It is obvious who will win this trial. As someone who repeatedly opposed an S-rank male and almost caused his death, what good outcome can you expect?”
The skull continued, “Remember the second trial? Moving away from the super-class planet, having your living conditions reduced to C-rank, and performing ten years of female soothing service? That was decided when they weren’t even sure if the protagonist was an S-rank. Now, the punishment will only be heavier. So, what is the point of living? You might as well just die. Give your soul to me, and I will avenge you.”
The whispers entered Philo’s ears like a tempting treat, making him want to accept the offer the skull had presented. His hateful eyes fell on Chu Sicheng, who stood there clean and high-spirited, as if the whole world was in his hands. Philo clawed at the floor in frustration.
“Really?” The bait was taken. “Can you really help me get revenge?”
The skull laughed. “Of course. I am on your side. I will help you drag the protagonist into hell and let him taste the suffering you have endured. But first, you must sacrifice your soul.”
The black mist around the skull grew thicker and more aggressive. It was waiting to swallow its prey. The skull leaned closer to Philo. “So, are you willing? Are you willing to offer your soul for a chance to take revenge? You have no chance of winning anyway, so just nod. If you nod, the protagonist will fail just like you.”
The skull’s words surrounded Philo like a curse. His eyes became dull, and his lips slowly opened. The word “Yes” was about to escape his mouth.
However, just then, a voice interrupted.
“Buddy, you shouldn’t steal a job like this.”
The air suddenly froze. The noise of the crowd stopped, and even the guards seemed paused in time. Chu Sicheng stepped up to the bench. While flipping a black card in one hand, he pressed his other hand onto Philo’s shoulder. With a forceful pull, the half-dead male was moved away from the smoking skull.
“You can see me?” the skull asked in disbelief.
“Otherwise?” Chu Sicheng raised an eyebrow. “I’ve been watching you for a while. What ‘soul’ and ‘offering’ are you talking about? Which cult did you escape from?”
The skull remained silent.
“I understand that your cult is small and you are desperate for members, but,” Chu Sicheng’s grip on Philo’s shoulder tightened. He smiled at the skull, but his tone was ice-cold. “This target is mine.”
“On what grounds?” The black mist around the skull became hideous. “He is the one I chose! I worked hard to bring him here, and his soul belongs to me! What are you, and how dare you compete with me?”
The skull lost its composure. The black mist roared and charged toward Chu Sicheng, intent on destroying the person who had ruined its plans. Explosions erupted in the hall, and windows shattered as the darkness spread.
“Why so impatient?” Chu Sicheng’s voice was calm as the mist approached.
Swish!
A sharp sound echoed. A silver light cut through the mist like a blade, piercing the skull directly between its eyebrows.
“Want to know what is on that card?” Chu Sicheng stepped over the severed mist and walked toward the skull. He easily removed the card and showed it to the entity.
It was a clown, wearing ridiculous clothes and doing stupid things.
Philo was a clown, and the skull was another. One thought mastering the plot meant mastering the world; the other thought mastering hearts meant owning souls. Without Chu Sicheng, the skull might have succeeded, but there are no “ifs” in this world.
“The manual doesn’t say how to handle a system if a Bug carries one,” Chu Sicheng tapped his chin with the card. “But it doesn’t matter. Killing one or two is the same.”
Chu Sicheng stood in the light, appearing as if the Insect God had granted him the right to judge everyone. The card flipped again, and a red glove extended from it, handing him a gun named Execution.
Bang!
The black mist dissipated instantly, vanishing along with the skull. Only Philo remained, still in a daze.
“No, no!” Philo snapped awake as Chu Sicheng approached him. He kicked the floor frantically while retreating. “No, I don’t want to die! I don’t want to die!”
The image of Chu Sicheng shooting the skull was so shocking that Philo felt as if his own head was about to explode. He was no longer brave enough to face death.
“Don’t worry, you won’t die immediately,” Chu Sicheng whispered. “You will be trapped in this shell forever, soothing females from high-rank to low-rank. Your consciousness will only dissipate once all your sins are cleared.”
Until then, Philo would be unable to speak of the plot or violate the world’s settings. He would simply be the lowest NPC in existence. The darkness was finally claiming him.
The gavel finally fell. The one punished was Philo, who lay collapsed and silent.
[Protagonist Halo progress: 100 percent.]
[Host, our mission is complete!]
“Is it complete?” Chu Sicheng leaned back on a soft sofa, looking down at the female kneeling before him. “I feel like it’s not over yet.”
[Ah? But it is already at 100 percent,] the system replied.
“This world is still missing a protagonist,” Chu Sicheng noted. He had already dismissed the other SS-rank, so only Alex remained.
Chu Sicheng crossed his legs and stepped onto Alex’s knee with his plush slipper. He looked down at Alex with a cold, scrutinizing gaze, as if deciding how to punish him.
“Do you remember? When you wanted to kill Philo, you said you wanted to use your death to atone to me. Can I assume your life belongs to me now?”
Chu Sicheng leaned down and tilted Alex’s chin up. He looked like a deity or an executioner. “Alex, don’t you think this scene is a lot like the first time we met?”
In the past, Alex was above and Chu Sicheng was below. Now, the positions were reversed.
“Do you agree with me, dear Officer?”
“I agree,” Alex replied.
“Then, do you believe you are guilty?”
“I am guilty.”
“You plead guilty?”
“I plead guilty!”
He should not have tried to end his life without permission. The warden of Moglas looked up at the male, his green eyes becoming hazy in the scent of citrus.
“I plead guilty,” he repeated. “Lord of the Insects, I am guilty.”
“Then,” Chu Sicheng picked up a silver chain and fastened it around Alex’s neck. The chain extended from the female’s neck to Chu Sicheng’s hand. He pulled the chain, bringing Alex closer.
“Let the punishment begin, Officer.”
