- Chapter 20 - Zerg World 20: Wanting a Bite, But Not Just There
“…”
In the bright and clean room, Chu Sicheng looked up at the cold female Zerg sitting on the single-seater sofa across from him, who was currently busy with work. His blue-gray eyes narrowed slightly, as if he were observing or scrutinizing the other.
He couldn’t figure it out.
Ever since he woke up this morning and saw the notification from the main system, Chu Sicheng had been puzzled.
Why did the villain blacken ahead of schedule?
Could it be that when Alex went back to the old manor last night, he was intercepted and tortured by Elio, who had teamed up with Marshal Saxon?
But…
Chu Sicheng blinked. Unlike the female’s usual meticulous dressing, Alex was currently wearing only a deep blue silk shirt. Not only was he not wearing a tie, but the top buttons were also casually left open. Combined with the gold-rimmed glasses he wore, perhaps for work, the entire Zerg looked both abstinent and dashing.
If he had truly been tortured by Elio yesterday, he likely wouldn’t be in this state today.
Chu Sicheng sized Alex up, feeling that the other seemed to be “displaying his plumage” like a peacock today.
“What is it?”
Alex, who had finally finished his work, looked up from the screen only to see the male leaning on the sofa armrest directly across from him, staring. Those normally round, doe-like eyes were narrowed into a thin line.
Alex calmly reached out to push the glasses up the bridge of his nose and spoke indifferently. “Are you bored? My apologies, I didn’t expect work to suddenly pile up at this time.”
“That doesn’t matter,” Chu Sicheng waved his hand dismissively. “If there’s work, just handle it first.”
It wasn’t as if he couldn’t entertain himself.
Chu Sicheng didn’t mind at all that Alex had asked him out only to prioritize work. He was just curious. “What did your father call you back for last night?”
Alex’s hand paused while closing the light-brain. His fingertips lightly brushed the side of the screen. The female lowered his eyes slightly before answering softly. “Oh, he wanted me to apply for a date.”
“And then?”
“And then,” Alex blinked, and for some reason, he suddenly looked up and smiled at Chu Sicheng, “I refused him.”
Chu Sicheng: “That simple?”
“Mhm. Aside from a few interspersed taunts and him pointing at the Zerg markings on my neck telling me to wake up or I’d be seeking death,” Alex’s lips curved slightly, his tone sounding very relaxed, “it was that simple.”
“…”
That didn’t sound simple at all.
Furthermore, Chu Sicheng’s gaze landed on the spell-like Zerg markings on Alex’s neck. He lightly licked his lip. [System, do you get the feeling he’s dropping hints at me?]
[Huh? Is he?] The System sounded as confused as a Patrick Star meme. [What is the villain hinting at? Is he saying he got scolded because of you, Host? Is he complaining?]
Chu Sicheng: […]
He must have been desperate to discuss a question requiring emotional intelligence with a pile of data.
To untie the bell, one must find the one who tied it. He might as well ask directly. Chu Sicheng looked back at Alex. “So, what are you getting at now?”
This time, Alex was the puzzled one. He didn’t quite understand Chu Sicheng’s question. “What do you mean, ‘what am I getting at’?”
“I mean, what do you plan to do now?” Chu Sicheng raised his chin and pointed toward the Zerg markings on Alex’s neck across the empty space. “Didn’t you just say your father pointed at those markings and scolded you? How do you plan to get rid of them?”
Chu Sicheng didn’t believe Alex’s “it was that simple” for a second. If it were truly that simple, the female would have only said the last sentence. Why bother with all the exposition beforehand?
Pressing his hands on the armrests, the male stretched his back, his bold and direct gaze locking onto Alex. “Are you planning to keep enduring it, or…”
His fingertips lightly tugged at his collar, revealing his fair collarbone, which was tinged with a slight pink.
“Do you want another bite?”
Alex froze.
“You know that I still can’t release a large amount of pheromones from my glands,” Chu Sicheng looked up and tilted his head at Alex. “So, do you want a bite?”
Do you want to taste that metallic citrus flavor again?
Chu Sicheng rose from the sofa and walked over to Alex. He knelt with one knee on the small patch of sofa between the female’s legs, one hand pressing against the back of the chair as he looked down into the female’s eyes.
In the living room decorated entirely in black, white, and gray, the male stood cleanly before Alex in a light blue shirt. His platinum-blonde hair fell over his forehead, slightly obscuring his eyes but making his red lips even more conspicuous.
The faint scent of citrus diffused through the air. Alex heard him ask in a low voice once more. “Do you want a bite?”
Do you? Of course, he did.
Except Alex’s gaze paused on the male’s collar.
He did want another bite, but he didn’t only want that one bite. He wanted to leave fresh marks on the wound that hadn’t had time to heal, and he wanted to leave his exclusive mark on other parts of the male’s body the neck, the lips, the wrists, even the ankles.
His once clear green eyes gradually turned deep. Alex bit his lip, his gaze shifting up to the male’s lips. Just as he was about to speak, Marshal Saxon’s words flashed through his mind.
“A B-rank male is exhausted after soothing an S-rank female. Him? An F-rank? Do you want him to be squeezed into a dried corpse!”
The hand Alex had been about to raise to embrace the male suddenly went stiff.
“What’s wrong?” Chu Sicheng blinked in confusion.
“…Nothing.” Alex looked away, leaning back into the sofa to put distance between them. When he spoke again, he shattered the ambiguous atmosphere in the room. “I haven’t decided yet. Tell me when I’ve thought it through.”
Given his current state, Alex was afraid that if he took a bite, things would spiral out of control. He feared he would do something even more excessive to the male, but Chu Sicheng didn’t know that Alex was currently on the verge of his mental power becoming uncontrollable.
He was just stunned by Alex’s refusal. From his perspective, it was something as simple as opening one’s mouth for a bite—similar to catnip, just take a sniff and be done with it. Furthermore, the female used to just bite without a word; why was he being so reserved now?
This reaction was just as puzzling as him blackening overnight.
However, just as Chu Sicheng lowered his head to ask what was wrong, the other seemed to anticipate his move and spoke first. “Did you know? While I was working just now, I received a message from Philo. He said he wants to meet and talk.”
“Talk about what?” Chu Sicheng followed the lead.
“He didn’t say, but,” Alex pushed his glasses up and looked at the male who had sat back on the sofa. With a flicker in his eyes, his tone became more meaningful, “under what circumstances do you think he would abandon his partner and come to me, his enemy, instead?”
Was it because he found his partner unreliable, or because he searched for him, but the other refused to see him?
For Chu Sicheng and Alex, this might require a choice, but for Philo himself, an adult never chooses—he wanted both! Simply because he found that Friedrich had suddenly and unreliably started ignoring him.
Ever since Friedrich woke up from that forced, premature heat, Philo found the female had begun to avoid him. He didn’t reply to messages and claimed he had no time for meetings. Recently, he had even returned directly to the border planet, claiming he had urgent matters to handle.
Heaven knows what “urgent matters” he could have after just returning from a victory there. Philo didn’t believe the excuse for a second, but it didn’t matter; he couldn’t contact him at all. Combined with the “Skull” telling him that Friedrich’s favorability was steadily dropping, Philo couldn’t sit still in such a bizarre situation.
Thus, in a fit of desperation, he followed the Skull’s advice and set his sights on the villain who was now obediently following the protagonist-top and seemingly in love with him. As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. If the villain knew the world they lived in was just a book and that the person he liked would end up with Friedrich—the person he hated most—he would likely blacken on the spot.
If he then proposed to cooperate with the villain to help him win the protagonist-top’s heart while also bringing the protagonist-bottom into his own arms, there was no reason for the villain to refuse such a win-win condition.
Philo’s plan was perfect.
However, he didn’t expect that while he was messaging Alex, Chu Sicheng was sitting right beside the female. Not only did he learn about it from the female’s mouth, but he also directly viewed every word sent.
Even more, Philo couldn’t imagine that while he was fantasizing about cooperating with the villain to capture Friedrich, Friedrich himself was looking down at a drafted message on his light-brain. Friedrich took a deep breath and finally clicked “send.”
“Ding!”
In the quiet living room, the notification for a received message rang out again.
Chu Sicheng looked down at the unfamiliar message on his light-brain. With a flick of his finger, the virtual screen displayed the incoming message to both Zergs in the room.
[Good day, Lord Ryan. If you are free recently, I sincerely request a meeting. Please believe me, I have some very important things to tell you.]
Sender: Friedrich, who respects you deeply.
