- Chapter 21 - Zerg World 21: Don’t You Want Ryan to Quickly Become?
“What do you want from me?”
In the elegant and quiet private room of the restaurant, Chu Sicheng picked up the coffee in front of him and took a sip. He then lifted his eyes to look at the female Zerg sitting opposite him, who was currently watching him with a complex expression.
However, the female did not answer his question. Instead, he stared at Chu Sicheng’s earlobe and said, “You, did you get an ear piercing?”
“Hmm?”
Chu Sicheng reached out and touched the stud on his earlobe. The fair, rounded earlobe was slightly flushed with pink; for a moment, it was even more eye-catching than the diamond itself.
Chu Sicheng nodded and gave Friedrich a casual smile. “Yeah, I got it.”
“You never used to do things like this before.”
“What did you say?”
Chu Sicheng didn’t catch Friedrich’s murmur. But the latter, whether intentionally or for some other reason, had no intention of repeating himself. He merely gave Chu Sicheng a stiff smile and changed the subject:
“Are you hungry? This restaurant has a few signature dishes that are quite delicious. Do you want to try some?”
Friedrich turned the ordering tablet toward Chu Sicheng.
“Especially that cream of corn soup; it should suit your taste very well.”
As he spoke, he carefully observed Chu Sicheng’s reaction.
“…”
Chu Sicheng looked at the few dishes the female had highlighted on the tablet and glanced up at Friedrich.
“How about it? Do you want to try?”
Friedrich asked cautiously, his tone laced with a minuscule hint of testing. He was like a long-absent female monarch facing a male master he hadn’t seen in ages—there was an awkward sense of unfamiliarity, so he was trying his hardest to reclaim the familiar feeling between the two Zergs.
Unfortunately, Chu Sicheng gave him no opportunity to close the distance.
The ordering tablet was tossed back onto the table. Chu Sicheng leaned back against the chair and refused directly:
“I’m not hungry. If you have something urgent, say it quickly. I have other matters to handle later.”
Under the warm yellow light, the male looked up to meet Friedrich’s eyes. Those blue-grey eyes were still clean and clear, as if they could encompass all things.
Yet, at this moment, Friedrich could not find his own reflection in them no matter how hard he looked.
But clearly, they should have been filled entirely with him!
Friedrich’s eyes grew dark, but his voice remained gentle. If one listened closely, there seemed to be a hidden trace of grievance that was hard for other Zergs to detect.
“Have you been very busy lately?”
“Since coming to the Imperial Star, you seem to have a good relationship with Saxon.”
Friedrich’s gaze slid down from Chu Sicheng’s eyes and landed on that conspicuous earring again.
“But back when we were on the Trash Planet, didn’t you say I was your only good friend?”
“???”
Chu Sicheng made a face like the “old man on the subway looking at his phone” meme.
Has this guy inhaled too many fake pheromones? It seems his brain and his thick skin were thrown out together.
Why is he starting to reminisce about the past?
And “only one good friend”, is he complaining?
Chu Sicheng’s lips curled in a speechless twitch. Then, under Friedrich’s hopeful gaze, he simply packed his things and stood up.
“If you invited me here just to say these things, then we have nothing to talk about.”
Actually, from Friedrich’s series of abnormal behaviors, Chu Sicheng could more or less guess that the female had likely awakened memories of the original text—or rather, the Friedrich who loved Ryan as much as his own life in the grand finale had been reborn.
That was why the female had distanced himself from Fellow (who sowed discord between him and Ryan) the moment he woke up. After sorting out the timeline, he had rushed over without stopping to find Ryan—who, in his memory, had lived with him for decades, but was now standing on the opposing side.
He wanted to win Ryan back, simply because, in those memories, Friedrich had always been the dominant one in the relationship.
For as long as Ryan had been humble before him, he had been superior and dictatorial before Ryan. This led to Friedrich’s first reaction upon seeing the Chu Sicheng-version of Ryan being one of accusation rather than an apology.
He was accusing the other of why he was getting so close to his arch-enemy.
He was also accusing the other of why he hadn’t kept the promise between the two Zergs.
That entitled appearance made it seem as if Friedrich wasn’t the same female who, back on the Trash Planet, ignored Ryan’s cries for help, allowed the male to be sentenced to death, never thought to visit him once, and even tried to push him into another abyss alongside Fellow after he saved himself.
Chu Sicheng knew that if he threw these accusations back at the reborn Friedrich, it would increase the female’s “heartbreak value” to some extent. But certainly not by much.
Because according to the “protagonist shou” logic that tormented Ryan to death in the original text, his brain circuits were different from normal Zergs. Faced with the male’s accusations, while he would feel guilt, he would likely also believe this was proof that Ryan still loved him and cared about him.
After all, in the later stages of the original plot, Friedrich once uttered the golden line: “Being angry means he still cares.”
Therefore, to avoid giving the female any whimsical delusions and to maximize the heartbreak value, Chu Sicheng didn’t want to say another word to him. He wasn’t even willing to engage in any physical torment against Friedrich.
He was afraid that if he gave the female a slap, the guy would try to lick his hand.
Tapping his fingertips lightly on the table, Chu Sicheng gave a polite smile to Friedrich, who had stood up in a panic along with him.
“Furthermore, General Friedrich, if you look for me in the future just to say this nonsense, then please don’t bother applying for a meeting with me anymore.”
[Ding! Protagonist shou’s heartbreak value increased by 10%.]
“After all, it takes me a whole second to click ‘Decline,’ and that’s a waste of my time.”
[Ding! Protagonist shou’s heartbreak value increased by 20%!]
Amidst the pleasant system notification sounds, the expression on the female’s face across from him became increasingly distorted.
“So, what you mean is, you aren’t even willing to spend a single second on me now? Do you hate me that much?!”
Friedrich couldn’t understand it. He had just taken a nap; why did the whole world change when he opened his eyes?
The engagement that originally belonged to Alex had mysteriously fallen onto his head. Meanwhile, the Ryan who was supposed to be with him now utterly loathed him and was spending all his time with Alex without him even knowing!
Was this right?!
Could this be allowed?!
Friedrich could not accept it.
Desperate to fix the current situation, he strode over to Chu Sicheng’s side. Before the other could open the door to leave, he blocked it firmly.
“Are you in such a hurry to leave because you want to find Saxon?!”
No, I’m planning to ask your father if the doctor dropped you on your head at birth, causing you to turn into this kind of forceful ‘love-brain.’
The kind of brain that forces others to be obsessed with you.
Chu Sicheng was amused by Friedrich’s questioning tone, which sounded like a scorned primary spouse. However, he still possessed professional integrity; facing such a perfect opportunity for heartbreak points, he naturally wouldn’t let it go.
Thus, Chu Sicheng nodded without hesitation. “Yes, we’ve made plans to have lunch together, so please move aside. Don’t waste my time.”
“I’m wasting your time again?”
At Chu Sicheng’s nonchalant tone, Friedrich directly ripped the handle off the door. Fuming with rage, he had already forgotten to be careful and gentle with the male. The mental image of the other being with Alex, which automatically surfaced following the male’s words, made him lose all rationality.
The golden handle was slammed violently onto the floor. Friedrich’s dark eyes were filled with fury.
“With me, you’re ‘not hungry,’ but with Saxon, you’ve ‘made plans to eat together.’ What? Does facing me make you lose your appetite that much?!”
Through the slight gap in the door left by the broken handle, the female’s suppressed, angry voice leaked out.
“Clearly, the Zerg you should be with most is me! The Zerg you should like is also me!”
“Ryan, tell me, what exactly do I have to do for you to come back to my side? I’m begging you, just tell me, alright?”
Friedrich took a step forward, reaching out to grab the male’s hand. However, in the next second, he froze in place because of the muzzle of the gun pointed at him by the male.
“You didn’t think I’d meet you without being prepared, did you? Sorry, I don’t trust you to that extent.”
The beautiful male waved the gun in his hand, his red lips curving slightly into a smile that carried a hint of innocent cruelty.
“Whether it’s now, or that ‘past’ you keep talking about.”
“!!!”
Upon hearing this, Friedrich’s pupils shook with disbelief. “You, what do you mean?”
“Can’t you tell yet?”
Chu Sicheng frowned with annoyance, as if disgusted by the stupidity of the female before him.
“My meaning is: whether it’s now or in the past, I don’t trust you. And of course, I don’t want you.”
Chu Sicheng didn’t want him.
And Ryan, who had been dragged into the punishment room by this female in despair, wanted him even less.
“So, don’t talk about ‘coming back.’ I was never by your side to begin with, and don’t even fantasize that I would ever go there. Because that place is too filthy. Even if I were to get within a millimeter,”
Chu Sicheng rotated his wrist, the muzzle of the gun bobbing up and down to mark the distance between the two Zergs. His contemptuous gaze was like he was looking at a clown.
“I would still find it repulsive.”
“…”
Friedrich felt his mental power was on the verge of collapse. He tried to calm himself down, yet the Zerg markings continuously emerging on his neck made it impossible to settle.
“Then what about Saxon?”
Friedrich gasped for breath, his voice hoarse. “Is he not filthy?”
“You probably don’t know, do you? After he married Elio, he was once tied with a dog chain, wearing only a—”
“Bang!”
A gunshot abruptly cut off Friedrich’s malicious slander.
Chu Sicheng lowered his eyes slightly, looking at the pale female who had fallen to the floor after being shot in the thigh. The corners of his mouth curled up, and his blue-grey eyes were filled with indifference toward the other.
“Don’t forget, the one currently engaged to Elio is you, Friedrich.”
“Furthermore,” Chu Sicheng spun the pistol in his hand, watching the heartbreak value continuously rising on the mission panel. His lowered eyes hid a boiling excitement. When he spoke again, it was like firing a second shot directly into Friedrich’s heart:
“I just don’t think Alex is filthy. Even if you tell me these things, I still won’t think so.”
Across the door panel, the male’s words, which sounded like a confession, reached the ears of the two Zergs standing outside through the gap.
Alex pressed down the corners of his mouth, which kept wanting to turn upward. His fingertips continuously rubbed his empty holster. Then, he turned to look at the male beside him, whose face was dark and stiff, and cleared his throat:
“What should we do? It seems I no longer have a reason to cooperate with Your Excellency now.”
“How could that be!”
Fellow stared fixedly at the gap in the door. Then, as if having made a certain decision, he abruptly looked up at Alex. His cold eyes were like a venomous snake hidden deep in the jungle, waiting to deliver a fatal strike to its prey.
Then, Alex heard him say:
“Don’t you want Ryan to undergo his second evolution quickly and become an S-rank male?”
